How to boot up MBP when connected to Cinema 30"

I plug up the MPB (usb, firewire, cat5, power, speakers, and two connectors for the mini plug to the DVI connector.
Then press the power on.
Then what?
Is there some secret to closing the lid at the right time, to make the cinema connect and the MDP monitor to shut off. I only want the cinema display. If I close the MPB lid both monitors go black. after rebooting a dozen times, my workaround is to not fully close the MPB lid (it goes dark) and the cinema display is working ok.
[This MBP connects differently than my previous MBP model that had the standard DVI connector. for the older MBP I would just close the lid during bootup, and that made it switch to the cinema. but that motherboard burned up and is in the shop]

Thanks Malcolm...that article describes how it USED to connect to the cinema display. But there's something more to the story now.
when I closed the lid during bootup when the desktop starts to display on the laptop, it never does pass the signal over to the cinema (even after clicking the usb keyboard or rolling the usb mouse.
the last combination that finally worked: let it boot up, get vista on both screens, configure the cinema as primary, remove the laptop (not extended), then only partially close the lid leaving it open about half an inch. When I have another hour to burn, I'll try closing the lid again. I went through 20 different combinations and already blew the night on this.
the new variables in my setup that seem to be causing this...using bootcamp now instead of vmware, using the miniport and dual connector out to the cinema.

  • How to avoid syslog messages when connecting via Perl SAP::RFC ?

Everything works fine with Perl SAP::RFC calls to our ERP 6.0 thanks to Piers Harding except numerous entrys in the SAP-syslog (SM21) which make that a little bit unclearly.
Tracing is set to "0" when connecting via new SAP::Rfc( ASHOST .. , TRACE    => "0" ) from Perl.
The syslog - entries look something like this:
07:46:10 DIA 000                          R1  M Trace vom Remote Client übernommen.
    07:46:18 UP2 062 011 MYRFCUSER              R1  L Trace für Benutzer MYRFCUSER deaktiviert.
Even when tracing is set to "0" there is also a *.trc-File in the directory where the perl script resides on RFC client side.
In this trace file one can see the followig excert:
    >>> RfcOpenEx ...
    Got following connect_param string:
       TRFC=0 LCHECK=0 UNICODE=0 PASSWD=******* USER=MYRFCUSER LANG=DE *TRACE=CLIENT=011* ASHOST=myhost SYSNR=00

Could someone please give me a hint what is going wrong here.
    Thank you.

May be set TRACE->'1' and got tracing messages ?

  • WIFI random connection problems when connected to Cinema monitor

This is macbook pro purchased prior to 2008. I use an external cinema monitor in my office at home. Recently when I start the laptop with monitor connected I cannot get a airport connection. If I disconnect the monitor and restart downstairs I get an automatic airport connection.
I've changed channels on airport to CH 4 since we use cordless phones which I've read are on CH 11.
If I retart laptop downstairs and bring back upstairs and connect to cinema display, i can get airport connection.
Any thoughts on this? Seems to be a system configuration issue?

Odd that in your outline of troubleshooting steps you say you "disconnect the monitor and restart downstairs"...
Can you start the macbook pro UPSTAIRS where you want to be WITHOUT the cable attached to external display and get CONNECTION?
Sounds crazy, but mabey it's your signal strength? Sometimes a wireless connection will work at the edge of it's range okay but establishing connection at the same place will not work. Does that make sense?
Ensure that you can connect to the network when "upstairs" "near the cinema monitor" like you would if it were all working okay but DONT connect it.
    Eliminate the up/down part first.
Can you elaborate on your network configuration? What Modem, Router, etc are you setup with?

  • How does iPad store photos when connected to Windows?

I've recently upgraded to iPad2. A friend is interested in buying my original iPad 32gb because she loves iPhoto and would like to move her current 10 gb photo library into it. Uploading new photos from her camera to the iPad is easy with the card reader.  But how could she handle backup of photo files going forward since she works in the Windows world and her primary OS is Windows 7?
I know that when I upload pictures to the iPad in the field and then connect the iPad to my computer at home the Image Capture program asks me if I want to import the photos and where to put them.  Does a similar event take place when using Windows?

Yes - the windows camera wizard should open : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083 . Or they can be manually copied from the iPad as it will appear as a 'camera' in windows explorer (in a similar way to how a memory card in a card reader would).

  • Problem viewing MBP when connected to a TV, please help...

    Hello,
Thanks for taking the time to read this...
I've connected my MBP to my TV via a display adaptor/HDMI lead and all works fine and looks great...
The problem I have is that if I want to watch a DVD through my TV, I'd like to close the MBP so as I am not distracted by having it on 2 screens. However when I do so I lose the picture and am just left with audio.
Is there a way I can close the MBP yet still be able to view it on the TV? I use Front Row and a remote as well.
    Hope someone can help...
    Thanks
    Mark

Try setting up screen sharing between your iMac and your MBP. You should then be able to see if the screen is going black because the MBP is switching to some incompatible format with the TV when the lid is down.
You will also be able to control the MBP from the iMac, meaning you can go into Displays Preferences on the MBP from the iMac and set the resolution setting back to what it needs to be to get the TV working.
You'll only have to do that once. The setting will be remembered from that point on meaning the issue should be gone.

  • How to deactivate automatic photoimport when connecting to memory card...?

    Hi there,
I recently installed iPhoto 6. When I connect a memory card to my powerbook, iPhoto starts up and wants to import the files. I want to do this manually and don't want iPhoto to start automatically. How can I deactivate this?
    Thanks for your help.
    Michael

    Hi Michael,
Using Image Capture to download images and video clips:
Open up Image Capture which is found in the Applications folder.
When it is opened, go to Image Capture/Preferences
    Under the General button choose
Camera: When a camera is connected, open Image Capture.
The next time you connect your camera Image Capture will open.
In the window that opens you will see an Options button. Click on that button to set your options.
To find out more about Image Capture (it can do a lot more) Click on Help in the menu bar when Image Capture is open.
iPhoto: How to Change the "Open Automatically" Preference
If you find you can't change any of Image Captures preferences or can't access any drop down menus or they are greyed out, check to make sure Image Capture is loose in the Applications folder and not within a sub folder.

  • How turn off Photos autostarting when connecting iPad

When I connect my iPad Mini 3 (iOS 8.3) to Yosemite 10.10.3 over USB, my MacBook Pro always starts Photos.
How do I turn off Photos autostarting?
My iPad is a test bed for apps, so Photos always comes over my Xcode screen when I least want it
Besides, there is no pictures on the iPad to sync anyway
I've been looking in the manuals and on the forums here, to no avail. That is why I turn to you.
    Thanks, Eburon

I found the answer, so I'd happily share it:
Follow these steps to turn off iPhoto’s auto-startup when you connect your iOS device to your Mac:
Connect your iOS device to your Mac via your Lightning or 30-pin sync cable. (iPhoto will open one last time, go ahead and close it.)
Open the Image Capture app. (It’s in your Applications folder.)
Click on your iOS device in the left-hand pane.
At the bottom left of the Image Capture window, you’ll see a pull-down option allowing you to select what happens when your connect this iOS device to your Mac. (You may need to click the tiny “up” arrow in the lower left corner before you see this option.)
The top option is “No application.” Click that option to select it.
Close out the app. iPhoto should no longer pop-up every time you connect you iOS device to you Mac.
With special thanks to Kirk McElhearn, (via The Loop), for the original tip and Chris Hauk for making me find it on Google.

  • MBP running hot when connected to Cinema Display

I have a 2.33 MBP that I use for work and at home. I also have a 23 inch Cinema display on my desk at home. I have noticed that when I have my MBP connect to the Cinema and the screen on the MBP closed it runs hot and the fans never seem to stop running. I was wondering if anyone has seen the same thing and if so what they have done to resolve the issues. I have had looked at the laptop coolers that go under the laptop and that powers the fans off an USB port, but I really like my desk clean and don't want to add something else to it. Any ideas or suggestions would be great.
    Thanks
    Matt

Try running with the lid open and see it temps drop.

  • Cannot use boot keystrokes when connected to Cinema Display

    Hi there,
    Just a confidence check:
I've just (at last!) upgraded from a 15" Studio Display ADC, to a 20" Cinema Display ADC (shiny Apple logo, not the graphite one). I am using the standard Apple Pro Keyboard w/black keys that came with my system (profile below).
However, unlike with my 15" Studio Display, I find that I am unable to use any of the boot keystrokes when the keyboard is connected to the back of the Cinema Display:
    C: boot to CD/DVD
T: boot to Target Disk Mode
    Option: boot to Startup Manager
    Command-S: boot to Single-User Mode
    Command-Option-P-R: reset PRAM
    Command-Option-O-F: boot to Open Firmware
The keyboard functions normally once the boot process has completed, and the aforementioned keystrokes do function properly when the keyboard is connected directly to the Power Mac G4.
My initial thought was that the Cinema Display is (presumably) not making USB devices connected to it visible to the ADC/USB bus until sometime during the Mac OS X boot process. However, I'd be surprised that the more capable/expensive/newer Cinema Display would lack functionality present in the older Studio Display.
    Any thoughts on this one?
    Thanks much for looking,

    Hi Keith,
Thanks for the follow-up, but as I'd noted in my original post, I am using a Cinema Display 20" ADC, and not one of the newer displays (the ones in the aluminum enclosure that have a separate power supply, and use a DVI video connection).
I do appreciate the look, of course!
    Best wishes to you,

  • Express Card Slot - freezes up my MBP when connected and it goes to sleep

When I have my express aircard in the slot - whether it is connected to the Internet or not - and I try to put it in sleep mode or it automatically goes to sleep mode, it completely freezes my computer and I have to force quit in order to use my computer again. If I take the card out before putting it into sleep mode there are no issues; however, I don't always remember to do so. Anyone else having this issue?

" ... Anyone else having this issue?"
Sort of. Not duplicable: I can tie the MBP into knots by simultaneous d/ls on like 3 open browsers with multiple tabs too. When I don't get a freeze in my browsers, or in my AT&T GlobeTrotter Connect app, I can leave it inserted and close the lid for sleep (which disconnects the modem anyway), and wake normally (but disconnected). I usually try to remember to take out the aircard before sleep; since it does protrude, and might get bumped!
When you say: " ... it completely freezes my computer and I have to force quit in order to use my computer again ..." I'm not thinking that having to just force quit your aircard app is a total freeze. Try getting the Grey curtain of Death, for that! But I know what you mean. I have that same light freeze, and must apple-option-escape three finger salute, force quit the aircard app, just to get the Finder to work. Then I must double-restart with PRAM upchuck for luck, to be able to launch the aircard app again, else it just sits there and locks up again ... And it usually takes me like three tries to connect, at busier times of the day. I am grateful to have the aircard, since it is my only access, due to extreme rural-ness. Kinda like Alaska, only warmer?
You got AT&T or Verizon? My only reception is AT&T, and luckily I got the Option GTMax Express aircard, instead of the Novotel USB dongle. The Option Express 34 has the port for an external antenna, which I need, and used to need even for voice cell phone ... and the USB dongle does not have that port. The little flip-up antennas on either do not give much gain yah. Fine for city life ...
Reception gets better as more towers are built, but that comes with population growth usually. Speed improves as Edge gets upgraded to GSM ... soon? I am getting like 16K d/l when lucky, on Edge only ... My AT&T took $25 M from NipponTel this year to upgrade to GSM, so NT can soak the Asian tourists here on vacation with roaming, etc. They are used to very high speeds d/l and were dying with Edge only ...

  • How to create Entity Object when connecting JavaDB in Jdev 11g

I use Jdev 11g to connect JavaDB. When I use the BC4J wizard to create EO and VO, I only can see VO, the EO is empty.
    any ideas?
    Thanks

In the Application Navigator, right-click the project in which you want to create the entity object and choose New.
In the New Gallery, expand Business Tier, select ADF Business Components and then Entity Object, and click OK.
If this is the first component you're creating in the project, the Initialize Business Components Project dialog appears to allow you to select a database connection.
In the Initialize Business Components Project dialog, select the database connection or choose New to create a connection. Click OK.
On the Name page, do the following to create the entity object:
Enter the package name in which the entity object will be created.
Click Browse (next to the Schema Object field) to select the table for which you want to create the entity object.
Or, if you plan to create the table later, you can enter a name of a table that does not exist.
If you manually entered a table name in the Schema Objects field, you will need to define each attribute on the Attributes page of the wizard. Click Next.
When you are satisfied with the table object and its corresponding entity object name, click Finish

  • K7N2G-ILSR: How to boot from SATA when a raid card is installed

    The situation:
    1. I have a separate raid controller (Silicon chip) with 2 drives on raid 0.
    2. I have another drive (my boot drive) that I want to place on the onboard Promise SATA raid controller.
    The problem:
The bios doesn't include an option to specifically boot from SATA, only SCSI. So when I place my boot drive to the onboard Promise SATA raid controller, the system won't boot because it's looking for system files on the raid 0 drive.
Is there a workaround for this?

Well, all my drives are IDE. I did try the SATA RAID using lumberjacker's bios but it isn't stable.
Aside from 3 IDE drives, I also have 2 atapi drives (cdr-w, dvd).
    Here's my current setup:
ide 0 - boot drive (master), DVD (slave)
    ide 1 - cdr-w (master)
onboard ide (sata controller) - (vacant)
    SATA 1 - (vacant)
    SATA 2 - (vacant)
promise raid card (2 ide ports)- 2 hard drives on raid 0 (both as master)
What I really want to do is place my boot drive on the SATA port (using a pata to sata converter), or on the onboard promise parallel port. So that it can have it's own port.
