How to bring different Word docs in Reports 6i

Hello,
I want to bring some formatted text (Word file) into my report.
In fact, for every customer in my report I have a different formatted text to display.
Using OLE2(Create from File)I have to specify exactly the name of the file(one file for the entire report).
What I want is that the name of the file to be different from one customer to another.
Does anybody know how can I do that?
I don't want to use txt files and format them in the report.

The trick here is not to create the OLE object directly in the layout (as you have been), but to use the Read From File functionality provided.
For any field in the layout, you can go to the property palette and set the 'Read From File' property to be 'Yes'. Once you do this you'll get another property 'File Format' which you can set to the be the format of file to read (in your case OLE2).
Now, when Reports runs instead of just formatting this field, it will look at the value and try to open that file from the filesystem. Take a look at the on-line help and examples of 'Read From File' for more information.

TextEdit will open Word documents.
For the problems you are otherwise describing I recommend:
Reinstalling Lion Without the Installer
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alterhatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You can also re-download the Lion installer by opening the App Store application. Hold down the OPTION key and click on the Purchases icon in the toolbar. You should now see an active Install button to the right of your Lion purchase entry. There are situations in which this will not work. For example, if you are already booted into the Lion you originally purchased with your Apple ID or if an instance of the Lion installer is located anywhere on your computer.

Thanks for your replies..I think i almost find the solution. I found 2 options to do this. They are :
1. Get Adobe Acrobat and it's SDK (has to buy)
2. Get OpenOffice 2.0.4 and it's SDK (opensource)
So, i do option 2. I install them in my system.then i call them from my ide. Then i follow the code from this link..

thru Forms. I want to retrieve the docs in the reports
automatically as the particular report runs..How can i retrieve
these docs in from the developer reports...

what you can do is you run the live previewer, and then you
create a field by using the field icon, and then you set the
property for this field.
a) source: the OLE field from the database, of course you got
to select when you create the report but you can choose not to
display when the report builder ask you to field the text part.
I assume you are using the display style of letter format.
b) File format: OLE 2
c)data type: long raw.

How to merge PDF/Word Doc with the Form I created?

Hi All,
Which software should I use to merger PDF/Word Doc with the form I created.
One more question is I want the form page to show up right next to the ending or in the middle of the word doc . How to manange the placement of the sections?

1) The option of creating the whole thing as a LiveCycle form means that you need to convert the Word document using LiveCycle Designer. The import utility won't preserve the fidelity of the Word document the way printing to the PDF print driver does. It will likely require a fair bit of tweaking in Designer to get it looking like you want. You will likely get frustrated, since Designer is not a word processor.
2) You can create PDF forms in Acrobat without launching LiveCycle Designer. While they look the same to a user as forms created with LiveCycle Designer, behind the scenes they are very different. When you create a form in Acrobat you overlay fields on top of an existing PDF document that you had previously created using the PDF print driver. There is an extensive scripting model for these "Acroforms". The technology pre-dates LiveCycle yet Adobe continues to improve the two forms models in parallel. In Acrobat, open a PDF and select tools-->forms-->show forms toolbar.
3) I recommend this option if it's feasible. I don't know what you mean by "doesn't show up in a flow". If you're going to use the form in Acrobat 7, then save it as Acrobat 7 compatible in LiveCycle Designer. This is one of the options in the Save As dialog of LiveCycle Designer.

Anyone have suggestions/idea on how to display an MSWord Doc stored within a blob column (not a bfile pointer) within Reports? All I see is the binary data but would like to see the Word Doc itself.

How can I open Word docs with Pages?

I just installed the iWorks software because it said it would open Word docs. Now I can't seem to open any Word .doc files I had archived onto CDs, after abandoning my PC.
I've made Pages my default application for opening text, and that didn't help. I just keep getting the error message "The document "X.doc" couldn't be opened." Any ideas?

Pages - the word processing/page layout application in iWork (no "s") - usually doesn't have any problems with opening Word files, but I do believe it can't open any Word files older than version 6. It is also highly unlikely that it would be able to open any from the new 2007 version. If your documents are from a version in between those, they should open.
How are you trying to open them? There are at least three common methods, but, since you say the documents are on a CD, I suggest copying them from the CD to your hard drive first. To open one at a time you can use File > Open (where > means following menu commands with your cursor). To open more than one at a time, select the ones you want by Command- (⌘) clicking the files & then dragging them onto the Pages icon in the Dock or a Finder window or Control- or right-click & choose Pages from Open with in the contextual menu that appears.

How to use a Word Doc's links in Pages

A friend has written a Choose Your Own Adventure story in a Word Doc, using links within the story as the mechanism for choosing the adventure. She has sent the Doc to me for proofreading and I'm trying to read in Pages on my MacBook Pro. The problem I'm having is that the links won't work in Pages.
So I have a two-part question:
Does anyone know how to make the links work in Pages?
If there is no way to make the links work in Pages, does anyone know an App they can work in?

How to 'Paste' a Word doc into InDesign and keep all of the settings?

I've set up styles in the Word doc, that I was hoping would transfer into InDesign, once pasted. The Word doc is very large, and has hundreds of jpegs placed within it. My issue is that once it is pasted, the images are overlapping the text above it, as well as others.
How would I rectify this? ...Is this a Word settings problem, or a transferring/'pasting' problem?

Thank you M, but I believe I figured it out:
I made styles in Word to make things a bit simpler when changing large sections of text, so within the settings of the images style select Format>Paragraph>Line and Page Breaks. Under 'Textbox Options' the Tight wrap defaults to 'None' - Select 'All'.
When the file is placed into InDesign, the images don't overlap, and are exactly where they need to be.

How to delete a Word doc that won't highlight from Finder sidebar

I have a Word 'doc' in the sidebar in Finder which no longer either highlights or opens (it used to). I would like to delete it. If I double tap it I get: Open Sidebar Preferences which doesn't help. I have tried Command and both command and option and, because it will not even select (i.e. highlight) I can't drag it to trash or delete it. Any ideas how to delete it? I have successfully removed other Word docs from the sidebar.

CMD-Drag, works for me.
