There are two major issues with oracles main web site: lack of consistency and lack of information.
I would challenge anyone to draw any sort of coherent information architecture map of the oracle property. It would be a dogs breakfast because there is no consistency in how the site is laid out. Consequently a new user has no idea where to go to get the information you want. Sometimes you are directed to downloads from landing pages and other times its more product information. But it's rarely what you expect.
Secondly, take for example the download a the BPEL Process Manager for JBoss. I can't even find that page now where I downloaded it from... But, nowhere in the download page, and nowhere in the 100+MB download is there any explanation of what JBoss versions are supported. Just unbelievable.
If I did not have to use the web site, I would never go near it!

Actually, I find there is an amazing amount of consistency. I believe that Oracle's technology web face is organized as a set of portals. Let me walk you through an example:
Start at Oracle's main tech page, Oracle Technet at http://otn.oracle.com . That page, and virtually all those below, are organized as follows:
Top banner - log in, search (not particularily good),
Top shortcuts - quick links to First glance, Download, Documentation, Forums, Samples and Tutorial portals
Left nav bar - Product, Technology (overlapping product or OSS), Architecture, Community portals by category
Right Nav bar - Portal specific navigation to docs, demos, downloads, tutorials, etc.
Center - the actual content of this portal
So, if I'm looking for BPM for JBoss, knowing that's a middeware product, I'd go to the Left Nav bar, Products: Middleware to get to the Middleware portal.
That portal has the same general layout as above, so I concentrate on the center section. Just below the enormous (and confusing) picture, I notice the Fusion Middleware Family links which includes BPEL Process Manager. Click to get to that portal, and
That portal has the same general layout as above. This one's an end portal as it's got references to documentation, downloads, and white papers. It's may have the information I'm looking for. In fact, it's got the link to the download page you want.
On that download page, I note, close to the bottom is an older download of BPM for JBoss, and it specifies "Oracle BPEL Process Manager 10.1.2.0.2 for JBOSS (v3.2.6) ". That is the older one, so I assume the newer download is either for that version or a newer version.
Aside from that, some of Oracle's better kept secrets are their Certification Matrices. In general, you could check http://www.oracle.com/technology/support/metalink/index.html and for App Server matrix, look at http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/ias/files/oracle_soa_certification_101310.html

Unfortunately, it is not possible in Xir2 to create Webi reports from stored procedures.
Webi reports can only be created from Universe. So in Business Objects XIR3 we can create a special universe that enables Web Intelligence user's to access stored procedures residing in the database. This is the only way that Web Intelligence user's can access stored procedures.

Near the right-end of the address bar is a white star which can be difficult to see, but look closely. When you wish to bookmark a shortcut to the toolbar, double click the star. A window will open with the name of the webpage. Under that is the folder box which will probably read 'Unsorted Bookmarks'. Click the drop down arrow and change it to 'Bookmarks Toolbar' then click done.
I have several folders on my toolbar such as Music, Mail, etc. in which I add multiple websites. If you wish to add a folder, click the second drop down arrow next to 'Bookmark Toolbar' and click 'New Folder' and give it a name.
To add a bookmark to a folder, again double click the star, make sure you are in Bookmark Toolbar and click one of the two drop down arrows to find the name of the folder.
For other bookmarks use Bookmark Menu. Whatever is added here can be accessed by Bookmarks on the Menu Bar. If your Menu Bar with Bookmark, File, View, etc. is not visible, click the Alt key and they will become visible. To keep the Menu Bar, click View, Toolbars and check Menu Bar.

How can I add bulks of web sites to a certain existing source?

we administrate web sites in a database application and we like now to sznc the list in this application with those inside oses for a certain exsisting source. So we need either to knwo how to bring bigger lists of web sites into oses via the admin web pages or via other methods.
So it would be nice to have a mthod, which can be used in scripts.
Does anybody use something simular or created a solution for this task?

I am a cityville game player on facebook and for some reason today I am unable to send out blasted on the game when if fact this was never a problem. Finally I went to internet explorer and the same problem happen, but internet explorer let me know that the content was blocked. All I had to do was unblock it and that was easy and know I can blast out. However trying to remove the block from fire fox is a issue. You need to figure out what you have installed which changed that action to Yahoo from a blank tab, which is the default action in Firefox; and then get rid of that add-on. Then you can can install an add-on which allows you to select what you want in the new tab.

Building a search-capable web site

Hi all,
A friend has asked if I could build him a web site that would be able to search a set of (probably) static documents, display the matches as a list of hyperlinked file names that, when clicked, then displays the full contents of the file. I've never done such a thing. Can anyone suggest Mac-based web authoring tools and books that would help with this?
I am a software developer and have put together html pages and Apple Help Viewer documents, just nothing with search and everything by hand, using a text editor.

How to print hard copy of web site?

I am getting audited by the State. Not for cause just routine. However they ask for a lot of things. One is a complete web site printout. I have never done this in Dreamweaver and my help is not finding the answer I need. Could you help me?

Would going on line, or just opening your local files in a browser, and then printing each page out as a PDF work? Not sure how printer-friendly your site is and you may have to play with output settings to prevent awkward page breaks, but that was the first thought that came to mind.
If the text itself is all that matters, you might could copy the only the content--e.g., <h>, <p>, <ul>, <li>, etc., tags--(again from the browser) and paste into your word processor, not forgetting to include the page title. I'm guessing my first option would more easily satisfy this requirement, though.

How do they do huge corporate web sites?

How are these really big web sites done, like those for Apple, CNN, Microsoft, etc. How many people does it take? Do they have teams? People who specialize in PHP, or JavaScript, or Photoshopping graphics? Is a lot of the work outsourced? (I'm in the USA.) Just wondering.

One of my contracts is with a large multi-national company (no names, but it is a well known name), and I am just one of many worldwide.
Most such company's employ very few permanent employees for their web sites (relatively), and tend to go with freelancers that they know and have worked with before, and a few agency's in each country.
Most specialize in 2-3 fields, and are conversant with most others. If you are thinking of finding employment in this area then it is necessary to know about the subject the company specializes in (if it's a publisher, then in what they publish, or a manufacturer then what they manufacture), your level of expertise on the subject should be much better than someone who is just interested, this goes for your fields in web design/development as well. I have found that one should be what is now being called a, 'devigner'.
That said do not expect to make a living out of this type of employment, unless they are doing a large update to their web site (from tables to css), but it can be a life saver when there is little work around. The down side is you cannot advertise the fact due to confidentiality agreements, and some even have a code of conduct that you must adhear to even when not actually doing any work for them

Just as an extra thought, they will expect you to drop everything you are doing or have planed, if there is a problem. This included other work you may be doing, holidays, weddings (yours as well), births, (they may even want a months notice if you plan to die ).
