How to build dynamically specified GUIs/Forms

Dear forum members:
As Flex newbie I still have got some questions concerning the Flex technology.
I've got to modernize an existent catalog-based ordering system in which a ShopManager (the 1st kind of enduser and an "enduser programmer" at the same time) shall be able to *declaratively specify* some customer groups, products, product bundles, product- and group-specific prices (via pricing rules) and product selection rules. Then, a customer (2nd kind of enduser) shall be able to place orders through a GUI that behaves exactly as specified before by the ShopManager.
In a non-enduser-programming scenario I normally would use a MVC-framework (like Cairngorm or Swiz, I guess for the Flex world) and hard-code the controller logic as need.
The problem I have in this enduser-programming scenario is that I cannot figure out how to transform the declaratively specified behaviour into running controller code!?!!!
Perhaps a rudimentary example in order to clarify issues:
Let's say we have a ShopManager and a Customer, and that the "workflow" is as follows:
A) the ShopManager specifies via his/her ShopManagerTool the following topics, ignoring further topic-specic properties for now:
   1. customer_groups = {cg01, cg02}
   2. products = {prodA, prodB, prodC}
   3. product_bundles = {{bundle01, prodA, prodB}, {bundle02, prodB, prodC}}
   4. price_rules = {
                        //atomic product prices, cgroup-specific:  (*1)
                        price_rule(cg01, prodA, 20.00USD),
                        price_rule(cg02, prodA, 18.00USD),
                        price_rule(cg01, prodB, 25.00USD),
                        price_rule(cg02, prodB, 22.00USD),
                        price_rule(cg01, prodC, 30.00USD),
                        price_rule(cg02, prodC, 27.00USD),
                        //bundle prices, cgroup-specific:
                        price_rule(cg01, bundle01, 39.99USD),
                        price_rule(cg02, bundle01, 37.99USD),
                        price_rule(cg01, bundle02, 59.99USD),
                        price_rule(cg02, bundle02, 55.99USD),
   5. selection_rules = {
                        sel_rule(cg01, dependsOn(prodC, prodA)),   (*2)
                        sel_rule(ALL , dependsOn(prodC, prodB)),
                        sel_rule(ALL , includes(prodA, prodC)),    (*3)
                        sel_rule(ALL , excludes(bundle01, prodC)), (*4)
B) the Customer uses the ordering GUI to select products and/or bundles and place his/her order.
    The GUI components always follow the pricing and presentation/selection rules imposed by the ShopManager specification done before.
Explanations:
(*1) This is a kind of pricing matrix and should be obvious.
(*2) This selection rules should be read as follows:
     (*2) "for cg01 holds: whenever he selects prodA then prodC becomes selectable (as prodC depends on the selection of prodA)".
     (*3) "for all customer groups: the selection of prodA automatically includes prodC".
     (*4) "for all customer groups: the selection of bundle01 automatically excludes prodC".
That's basically the kind of app to realize, and as far as I can figure it out with my current Flex-understanding, I'll need some model element classes (Product, Customer, CustomerGroup, RuleSet, Rule, PricingRule, SelectionRule, etc.) used by the ShopManager to specify things, and further also let him define some kind of "model element (property) to view element (property)" mapping for visualizing the specifications.
1. How could this problem be solved the best way? I.e., what would an appropriate solution architecture look like?
2. How would I transform the declarative ShopManager specifications into concrete MVC code in general and into concrete controller code
in particular?
3. Could anyone of you provide me with a rudimentary example of such "dynamically specified forms"?
Please, due to the current importance of these issues, I would be very very thankful for any helpful solution hints.
Thank you very much in advance.
Best regards
    Alessandro

Dear Adobe (Flex) Forum Members:
Really no ideas for this topic?
I would appreciate any solution hints very much -- even pretty simplistic ones.
Thank you a million in advance.
Best regards

  • How to build Dynamic Data Form in Planning

    Hi,
    I need for building Data Form in Planning 11.1.2.0 with table columns that would be consist of (example 1):
    - Nov 2011 - Actual
    - Dec 2011 - Actual
    - Jan 2012 - Actual
    - Feb 2012 - Forecast
    - Mar 2012 - Forecast
    - Dec 2012 - Forecast
    Note: current period is "Feb" and current year "2012" has been got from Essbase substitution variables.
    How to build Dynamic Data Form in Planning app using @relative function for period and year dimensions and Essbase substitution variables?
    Example 2 (for current period is "Mar" and current year "2012"):
    - Dec 2011 - Actual
    - Jan 2012 - Actual
    - Feb 2012 - Actual
    - Mar 2012 - Forecast
    - Apr 2012 - Forecast
    - Dec 2012 - Forecast

    As I know you can't use such range or functions in form member selection. Below are couple of options:
    Use bunch of variables for each scenario and the number depends on how many months you want to display (18 months etc..)
    pre-fill the data for related months and years and use data suppress options.

    What do you mean here - you want to extend the Forms Builder with your own wizard, or you want to build a Forms Application with a Wizard Style interface?
    If it's the First then you can't, if it's the second then check out the 9i demos there is a re-usable wizard component that shows you how to do it.

  • How to build dynamic databases(record set) for mobile?

    Hi All ,
    i have an applocation that needs to personalize the data for users .
    i have the data available , but dont know how to personalize it fot users to download special version of my application.
    how to build dynamic databases(record set) for mobile?

    In the load rule in the dimension build settings you would need to go to the tab dimension definition, choose the time dimension and right click on it. Select Edit properties. If you have not done so, set the dimension to be the time dimension. Then go to the generations/levels tab and set the generation names you need. For example if you want YTD, you would set the generation name to Year, if you want QTD set it to Quarter. You would set the number to the generation number that coorisponds to the generation. The DBAG has the list of names for all of the DTS members.

  • How to build dynamic select query

    Using the ZCO_SETTLE_CHK-REC_FIELD and DISTRIBUTION_RULE-KONTY write a dynamic select single query <table>-<field name> e.g. <COAS>- <AUART> on the <table> e.g. <COAS>. If the DISTRIBUTION_RULE-KONTY is u2018ORu2019, then use DISTRIBUTION_RULE-AUFNR value in the where clause of the query to fetch the ZCO_SETTLE_CHK-REC_FIELD value maintained in the <table>-<field name>. If DISTRIBUTION_RULE-KONTY = u2018KSu2019 or u2018PRu2019 use DISTRIBUTION_RULE-KOSTL or DISTRIBUTION_RULE- PS_PSP_PNR respectively in the where clause to fetch the values.

            this.tableRowGroup1.setFirst(0);
            return "";
        }I put the search_action() call in the prerender() to have data in my table when the page is open. For a large resultset the best aproach is to let the user select some search criteria and then call the search_action() using a button (searchButton_action() ).
    I've added a hyperlink column to my table, it is used to display the current record details in a new page.
    I have defined in my SessionBean a getRowkey/setRowkey methods.
    When the user click on a "View" hiperlink the following code is executed:
        public String viewpackageAT_action() {
            RowKey row = tableRowGroup1.getRowKey();
            this.getSessionBean1().setPackageAirtimeRowKey(row);
            return "packageairtime_details";
        }I will step over the "Page Navigation".
    In the Detail Page I have the following code:
        public void init() {
           this.s23_package_airtimeDataProvider.setCursorRow(this.getSessionBean1().getPackageAirtimeRowKey());
    }Now I have the detail page opened and also the DataProvider opened at the saved RowKey value.
    Finally, in the SessionBean:
         * Holds value of property packageAirtimeRowKey.
        private RowKey packageAirtimeRowKey;
         * Getter for property packageAirtimeRowKey.
         * @return Value of property packageAirtimeRowKey.
        public RowKey getPackageAirtimeRowKey() {
            return this.packageAirtimeRowKey;
         * Setter for property packageAirtimeRowKey.
         * @param packageAirtimeRowKey New value of property packageAirtimeRowKey.
        public void setPackageAirtimeRowKey(RowKey packageAirtimeRowKey) {
            this.packageAirtimeRowKey = packageAirtimeRowKey;
        }Note: You should enable page navigation in the result(s) table.
    That's about it :)
    Hope this helps,

  • How to build dynamic menus using JSP==Urgent==Please Help me

    Hello,
    I have exhausted searching on internet to find a book
    which tells how to build Dynmic menus in JSP.I dont want
    to use DHTML as this becomes complex as the menu categories
    are built using data from database.Is there any workaround in
    java to do this without DHTML or atleast sample code.
    can somebody help me in this regard.
    Thanks
    Jack

    Hello a.s.kumar,
    I would be greatful if you could send me the sample code.
    [email protected]
    we can't let MM Flash run away with the show can we. Javascript can do a decent job, but the underlying menu data is static.
    Cheers, Darren

  • How to build dynamic time series for the time dimension

    I am planning to build dynamic time series using rule file instead of manually.Please let me know if there is any property need to assign to enable DTS property for TIME dimension.
    Edited by: 844104 on Mar 14, 2011 3:37 AM

    In the load rule in the dimension build settings you would need to go to the tab dimension definition, choose the time dimension and right click on it. Select Edit properties. If you have not done so, set the dimension to be the time dimension. Then go to the generations/levels tab and set the generation names you need. For example if you want YTD, you would set the generation name to Year, if you want QTD set it to Quarter. You would set the number to the generation number that coorisponds to the generation. The DBAG has the list of names for all of the DTS members.

  • Newby To Lifecycle Building Dynamic Loan Application Form

    The document i am working with is going to be an online loan application form.
    At present when i save the file in live cycle the file is 1.5 meg in size and it is also that size when i try and save the file for distribution.
    Is there some way to optomise the final pdf down to a reasonable size
    The original interactive form which i am basing this new form is a pdf of only 360kb so i am not sure why it has blown out to 1.5 meg.
    The file in question has been programmed with functionality such as repeating regions etc to allow the applicant to dynamically add extra applicants or assets or liabilities to the application as necessary
    As mentioned i am a newbie to life cycle however have been a cold fusion programmer for for 8 years.
    I look forward to any assistance you may be able to offer and also come good reference material suggestions for clear consise instructions.

    The fonts settings are not set to embedded fonts as suggested. The file size is still over 1.5meg when the original interactive pdf which i imported intoi live cycle is only 350kb.
    Can someone please assist in advice on how to optomise the file size to a normal size and also advise on any online tutorials to assist me in learning livecycle to allow me to complete this online loan application i am building as an interactive pdf

  • How to build dynamic query strings in the query using DB adapter 'Pure SQL'

    Dear Forum,
    I am building an application which will access DB to fetch some result set. The query involves retrieving data from multiple tables(nearly 10 tables). So I have created a DB adapter using 'execute pure sql' option. With this query works fine, but my inputs parameters will vary. So I need to make my query dynamic to append the query strings at runtime depending on the inputs.
    For example I have 3 input variables - input1,input2 and input3 (in my request xsd) which are used in the pure sql query. Now if I get a 4th input parameter input4 in the request, I need to append this to query string as 'AND input4=[some value]' at runtime. Otherwise my query should have only 3 parameters. Please suggest how this can be achieved.
    Regards,
    Satya.

    This is a strange requirement, depending on the columns you have and what are optional in them, one way is to have separate operations and each opeartion will have different inputs and for each operation , a different DB Adapter is called. But this way, it results in more number of operations for the service as well as more number of references in the composite. Even if you pass the column inputs to the SQL procedure, it will result in a large number of if-else cases..
    Thanks,
    N

  • How to execute dynamic sql in forms 6i?

    Cursor_Handle     Integer     := DBMS_SQL.OPEN_CURSOR;
         Out_Put          Integer;
    BEGIN
         DBMS_SQL.PARSE(Cursor_Handle, Sql_Stmt , dbms_sql.v7);
         Out_Put := DBMS_SQL.EXECUTE(Cursor_Handle);
         DBMS_SQL.CLOSE_CURSOR(Cursor_Handle);
    return true;
    END;
    this is the procedure i have used. it works fine in server side but not in client side. pls help me to solve this problem.
    Advance tanx

    The reason your process won't compile is that you are using a package variable, dbms_sql.v7. (Why aren't you using dbms_sql.native?) If you change that variable to a value of 1 it will probably work.
    However, Francois is correct -- In Forms, you should be using the Exec_SQL package. It is built for Forms; Oracle does not support using DBMS_SQL from Forms. In fact, if you use Forms Builder 10g connected to Oracle 9i and try to compile, the compiler fails with internal errors. They say it works again if you connect to Oracle 10.
    Exec_SQL is identical to DBMS_SQL, except for exception handling. You have to make an additional call to catch the error if an exception occurs: Exec_SQL.Last_Error_Code

  • How to build dynamic input schedule from version

    Hi experts,
    I want to create an input schedule based on my category selection which will allow users to enter data to budget part but changing the actual part is prohibited.
    For example I have category member which is 2010-09-1. This means I am working on 2010 Budget which has 9 periods of actual and 3 periods of forecast and 2011 Budget. In my input schedule I would have 24 months from 01.2010 to 12.2011 and I will copy actual to budget for the first 9 months but I do not want users to change first 9 months actual data from input schedule.
    What solution can you propose for this in BPC NW ?
    Regards,
    ergin

    Hi Ergin,
    From the description you have provided, I guess you will have the TIME dimension in the Column. The CATEGORY would be set to 2010-09-1, lets suppose. In this case, the first 9 columns should be locked for any changes. For this, you need to use the Data Validation technique, which is native to Excel.
    select an empty cell, lets say D1. in this cell, you should fetch the value "2010-09" from the version "2010-09-1". If the version is changed to "2010-10-1", the cell D1 will be automatically updated and will show "2010-10". In the column, in the row just above the Time dimension, write a formula to fetch the year and monthnum property of the Time member. Lets say, the time dimension members are displayed in the cells E4 to AB4 (24 columns for 24 months). In the cell E2, you can write the formula, =EVPRO("application name",E$4,"YEAR")&"-"&EVPRO("application Name",E$4,"MonthNum"). This will return 2010-01 in the cell E2 for the member 2010.JAN. Similarly, for 2010.FEB, the cell should display "2010-02". We will keep the formula in E2 only. After the expansion, the formula also will be expanded for the other cells.
    Select the first data cell of the EVDRE report. Open Data Validation. In the Settings Tab, in the Formula field, write =D1>E$2. Then go to the error alert tab and choose the style as stop and give some title and message. This would typically mean that if value of D1 (in this case 2010-09) is not greater than E2 (in this case 2010-01), then the error message will be displayed, when we try to enter values in these cells. And it will not allow to enter any value.
    Once the EVDRE is expanded, this data validation will be copied into all the other data cells. So, in this way, the enter input schedule can be kept dynamic.
    Hope this helps.
