Hi ycngjack1:
You're fine putting just video content on your DVD. There's no rule that says you have to have a menu.
You'll want to set the "First Play" option in DVDSP to your Track that contains your video. By default, a DVDSP project starts with one Menu and one Track with "First Play" set to the menu.
720x576 is the correct frame size for a PAL MPEG2 stream, whether it's full frame material (4x3) or widescreen material (16x9). You need to be sure to set the "Display Mode" setting for the Track correctly in DVDSP in the Inspector palette. Also, this setting must correspond with your Video Stream for correct results. In other words, you place full frame clips into a full frame Track and widescreen clips into a widescreen Track. If you need to mix the two, you have to address this prior to encoding or importing the clips back in your editing applications (Final Cut Pro, Final Cut Express, After Effects, etc.) and conform your footage to either full frame or widescreen.
Getting back to your question, "can i burn in 16:9 letterbox so that widescreen on normal tv but fullscreen on lcdtv?" It sounds like you are talking about creating a "hard matte", meaning that your 16x9 image is scaled proportionally to fit within a 4x3 image, leaving black bars at the top and bottom (the letterbox). This will result in a letterbox picture on a 4x3 TV and a pillarbox picture (black on the sides) on a 16x9 LCD TV that's also letterbox inside of that.
Without actually seeing your source footage, it's hard to tell you exactly what to do.
For the results that I think you are looking for, you'll want your 16x9 picture to be squeezed into 720x576 (everything should look thin and distorted without black bars at the top and bottom),
This might also help:
a. Place your clips into a Track and set the Display Mode to 4:3 (the first setting of four, the others being 16:9 Pan-Scan, 16:9 Letterbox, and 16:9 Pan-Scan & Letterbox).
b. Set the Track to be the "First Play".
c. Click the "Simulate" button.
d. While the Simulator is running, change the Display Mode between the three options: 4:3 Pan-Scan, 4:3 letterbox, and 16x9.
e. Quit the Simulator and change the Track Display Mode to the next setting, 16:9 Pan-Scan.
f. Run the Simulator again and change the Display Mode between the three options.
g. Repeat this until you've done all four of the Track Display Mode Settings.
This should help you reverse engineer your source footage.
Good luck!

to create standard-conform DVDs = playable on any DVDplayer, there's much more to do than just converting to mpeg(2)...-
you need a DVD-authoring app, as iDVD, Burn, Toast ........... drag any iMovie export into it, 'burn'.

  • Pretty basic this, but I'm a total beginner.  Can anyone tell me (in simple steps!) how I burn a movie I bought in iMovies onto a DVD?  After I stick the DVD in, what happens then?  Sorry about the unsophisticated question.  Thanks.

  • Can you burn multible movies on one bluray dvd disc with final cut pro

how to burn two completed quick time movies to blu ray dvd with final cut pro? Ive tried but wont play

    Mark,
Welcome to the wild and wacky world of DVD's and Mpeg2!
Here are a few things that might help.
it seems to want everything as a QT. This presents size limitations.
Not really, iDVD simply takes the QT files that you feed it and uses its own compressor to encode them to mpeg2 files. As long as your source material is not over 2 hours iDVD can handle it.
I'm planning to export from fcp using Compressor in the hope of fitting everything onto one disc
You can do this, but you might find it simpler to simply export a QT reference movie from FCP and drag that into DVDSP. DVDSP will then use compressor to create the mpeg2 files that you need. I say this because some find compressor a little intimidating at first. (I know that I still do.)
Now, go find the manuals that came with your software and start reading, DVDSP is a powerful program and the manuals are the best place to start.
    Good luck!

  • 3 Movies On One Disc

I have three home movies I made on iMovie that I want to burn on one disc. Do I use chapters to do this? How do I make chapters?

    catspaw wrote:
Hi isign31 - just import all 3 into an iDVD project.
in addition to catspaw (greetings to New Zealand, hi Bruce!!) excellent advice:
your iM projects are located.. I assume in the 'Movies' folder. just 'grab' the projects and drag them into the open iDVD window..
chapters are just 'bookmarks', 'jump lables' within one movie. if you prefer chapters, you have to consolidate all 3 projects into one and add the chapter markers with the .. chapter marker feature of iM
consolidating means: export each project 'Quicktime/Full Quality' (=which creates huge files.. you can erase them after finishing iDVD project); import these 3 exports into a new iM project; add chapters.. create disk.

  • Burning multiple movies to one DVD

I want to burn 8 short movies to one DVD. Do I have to use a DVD RW or is there a way to burn all 8 to a DVD-R?

You probably only have a single-layer drive so you
will be limited to a maximum playing time of about
120 minutes in Best Quality mode. We recommend
Verbatim or Maxell DVD-R for single-layer discs.
BTW, iDVD compresses everything to mpg-2 so the
playing time of your content in minutes is the
important factor - the size of your original files in
    MB doesn't come into play.

thanks for the tip on type of DVD, but my immediate problem is that when I burn to a DVD, I can only do one movie. I am looking for a way to select all of them vs 1 at a time. I tried the advanced & edit DVD contents but I still have the problem that the program will only burn one movie at a time & then because it is DVD-R, I can't add another. I need to be able to put all 8 on at once (or at least one after another). Is there a way to "combine" them for burning?

  • How can I transfer movies from one apple to another

How can I transfer movies form my macbook pro to my apple air?

If you have a wireless network, you can enable file sharing with each and transfer select data from one to the other via your wi-fi network.
Or if you have an external drive used for backup purposes, you can transfer the movies that way.
If you have Home Sharing enabled with iTunes on each and a wireless network, you don't need to transfer anything unless you want the movie available when away from home.

  • I loose both sound tracks of the last chapter when burning a movie to a disc in iDVD

I loose both sound tracks in the last chapter when I burn a project to a disc in iDVD. The sound tracks are there if I play the movie in iDVD before burning to disc, but as soon as I try turn burn to disc the original sound track & the sound track imported from iTunes disappears in the majority of the last chapter.
I'am using the latest version of iMovie & IDVD.  The project in iDVD is listed as 96 minutes & 3.9GB & I'am using an LG single sided DVD 120 Min 4.7GB
    Any help will be appreciated.

    Hi
    May be something here.
    No audio on DVD disc.
    Most common origin.
    1. Imported audio from iTunes.
    • In iTunes copy out as an Audio-CD .aiff (Same as played on standard Stereo CD - no .mp3)
    • Use this in Your movie project
    2. Low - Free Space on Start-up/Boot/Internal/Mac OS Hard disk makes it hard for iMovie to work as intended.
Down to 1.3 GB and it doesn’t work - especially audio don’t migrate over to Media Browser
    (iM’08 & 09)
    3. Material in iMovie’08 & 09 - Shared to Media Browser and here selected as Large
large.m4v. It silenced out this project in iDVD. By making a slight alteration - provoking it to ask for a new Share/Publish to Media Browser and here selecting 640x480 - and audio was back when a new iDVD project was created including this movie.
    Minuscular - - 176x144
    Mobile - - - - - 480x360
    Medium - - - - 640x480
    Large - - - - - - 720x540    960x540
    HD - - - - - - - - 1280x720
    4. Strange audio formats like .mp3, .avi etc.
    • Change them to .aiff. Use an audio editor like Audacity (free)
    5. Main audio is set to off in System Preferences - Does this by it self - Don’t know why
    Cheque Audio-Out resp. Audio-In
    6. Ed Hanna
Had the same problem; some Googling around gave me a kludgy, but effective fix
Downgrade Perian from recent versions back to version 1.0.
That worked for me, and so far I haven't encountered any deficiencies — except it takes more advanced versions of Perian to enable QuickTime to handle subtitles in .srt format — that I have noticed.
    7. GarageBand fix.
In this set audio to 44.1 kHz (Klaus1 suggestion)
(if this don’t work try 48 kHz - me guessing)
    Before burning the DVD.
    • Do a DiskImage (File menu and down)
    • Double click on the .img file
    • Test it with Apple DVD-player
If it’s OK then make Your DVD.
Burn at x1 speed.... (or x4)
    • In iDVD 08 - or - 09
    • Burn from DiskImage with Apple’s Disk Utilities application
    • OR burn with Roxio Toast™ if You got it

  • How to burn Quicktime movie to CD

hello- i need help. instructions on how to burn a quicktime movie to a cd. i exported an iphoto slideshow to quicktime so that i can share with family. now, i have a .mov file but don't know how to burn it to cd. do i need quicktime pro to do this? i appreciate any help. thanks

If you just want to burn it to a CD (or do you want this CD to play in a DVD player?) all you have to do is insert a blank CD, Choose to let the Finder handle it, drag and drop the file on the CD then drag and drop the file on the Trash (the Trash icon will change to a burn icon).

  • Burn I movie onto a disc

I want to burn an I movie onto a disc. When I try to do it it tells me that the cd can't be played on a dvd player and that the file is too large for a disc. What should I do? I want to be able to copy the movie onto discs and mail it to several clients. I want them to be able to receive the movie in an easy format. When I e mail it the compressed file is hard to see.

You must burn a video on a DVD disc, not a CD.
Burn your DVD by clicking on the round wheel just to the left of the Themes button in the iDVD project window. Or use the Disk Utility app on your Mac to burn it.
Any project under two hours running time will burn on a standard DVD disc.

HI- I purchased a movie from the iTunes store and want to know how to burn to DVD to watch on my TV? Thanks

  • I recently installed the new operating system.  iMovie doesn't seem to work the same as in Mountain Lion.  I can't figure out how to burn a movie to a DVD.  Has that feature been eliminated?

I am having difficulty figuring out how to burn my iMovie to a DVD.  Has that feature been eliminated?

unbelievable... the amount of RAM is the issue... I found a post (http://forums.creative.com/creativelabs/board/message?board.id=soundblaster&message.id=8448) on an unrelated matter, but the user solved their issue under X64 by limiting the amount of RAM WinXP x64 was using by editing the boot.ini file.
The basis of the "trick" is to add " /maxmem=4096" to the end of your OS line, but I elected to copy the line and add it to a new entry so I could easily select which "mode" i wanted at boot.... like so...
    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition()\WINDOWS="Window s XP Professional x64 Edition" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect
    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition()\WINDOWS="Window s XP Professional x64 Edition - X-Fi tweak" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect /maxmem=4096
amazingly this solved my issue... but now my system properties only report 2Gb instead of 4Gb... unacceptable!
When Can I expect a fix for this Creative?

  • How to combine 3 completed short movies into one disc?

I made 3 projects, created disc images, and burned them successufully, one at a time. Since they are only about 15 minutes each, I would like to now combine them into one DVD. I want to keep the originals as is, meaning the same different DVD theme each one has. Is there a way to do that? I tried to use Toast, but it can't import some files and tells me there is a mac error. Can I create a new DVD theme, sort of introducing the 3 projects, them import the 3 completed projects into it, so that it will play the different iDVD thems for each? Any help would be appreciated.

    hey there MaxFS,
you can put all 3 movies into 1 DVD project, but you can't have 3 themes in one project--no version of iDVD works that way. neither does any version of Toast. 1 Project=1 Theme. if you have submenus you can make the submenu page be different from the main menu page.
    good luck.
