How to burn 6GB of data to a 4GB DVD??

I have a 6GB iPhoto library that I'd like to burn to a DVD and then remove that library from my HD.
How do I do that?

some applications will let you burn data on two different disks. it'll split up the content and then once you have the files in the same area together, they will form back to make your backed up file.... the application costs money of corse but I'm sure Toast Titanium Does this.
what you REALLY should do is get a thumb drive and back up your iphotos on that. This way you won't spend money on dvd's at 4gb incraments.
You could also get an external hard drive.
If you delete the stuff on your computer, you're not neccessarily backing it up. Backing up intails two copies of a file. The file itself as it was created initially. and the back up of the original on a different storage device for safe keeping.
you can also navigate to your iphoto library, right click, view contents, take 4gb worth of photos out of it and and burn those to a disk and then take the rest and burn those to a disk. there is no way of getting 6gb of data onto a 4gb disk though.
edit: Reed, you posted faster then me! I'm slow today I guess.

  • How to burn a powerpoint 2013 presentation to a DVD R and or USB flash drive.

My Powerpoint 2013 slideshow includes photo's, clip art with transitions and animations and embedded music.   I want to
burn this presentation to either  a DVD disk or a USB flash drive and send it to a friend.   My friend has a windows 7 desktop
computer and a DVD player attached to a TV.   Ideally I want to know how to burn the presentation to a DVD so that the presentation can be played back on the TV using the DVD player.    I do not want to lose any of the transitions
or animations when I burn the presentation to a DVD.          I know most TV's have a USB connection but have no idea how this works if the
presentation is copied to a USB flash drive.   What are my best options to keep the integrity of the presentation intact, and how do I go about doing this?   I need detailed instructions please.   Thanks in advance
    for your assistance.

    Hi,
The factor of keeping the integrity of presentation when you burn this presentation to either a DVD disk or a USB flash drive depends on performance of DVD disk and USB flash drive.
There are two ways to put PowerPoint presentation on a DVD convert PPT to video.
    1. Convert PPT Files To DVD is to use a screen capture software.
    2. Convert and Burn PowerPoint Presentation onto DVD would be to use a professional PowerPoint to DVD converter software.

If your TV doesn’t have built-in processors or Windows installed, it can’t run PowerPoint presentations in their native environment from a USB connectors. If so, you should convert it to video format first.

  • How to burn .flv movie files to a viewable dvd

i have an older macbook (2ghz intel duo core 2 duo, 2 gb 667 mhz ddr2 sdram). i would like to burn some .flv movie files to a dvd which can be viewed on an ordinary dvd player. (i am unfamiliar with the computer's movie making software, unfortunately) is there a simple, user friendly method to do this? any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Have you tried just dragging them into iDVD? Don't see any reason why that shouldn't  work. Not saying you'll get the greatest quality.

  • How can I tell the date I created a DVD?

My wife has just asked me when I created a DVD for her.
I stuck it in my iMac and selected "Get Info", both on the disc and later its contents but the only creation date was the present moment in time!
How can I determine the time and date it was burned?
    Can it be done?

Thanks Carolyn but that is exactly what I was doing.
However, the wording of the question was wrong.
It was actually a CD not a DVD.
    Now here's the odd thing.
When I do it with a DVD I get the creation date but with a CD I just get today's.
So here's the next question or two.
What is the difference between CDs and DVDs in this respect and is it possible to find the creation date of a CD?

  • How to burn movies

I cannot figure out how to burn a movie. I have some dvd's I would like to copy but cannot figure it out.

If you want to burn a movie you created in iMovie, use iDVD. Apple doesn't sell it any more.
If you are trying to copy an already burned DVD that someone else made, you can use commercial software such as Roxio Toast.
If the DVD is copy protected it cannot be copied.

Try cleaning the lens and see if that will restore functionality to the DVD drive.  Use a DVD lens cleaning disk, if you have a can of compressed air, shoot some into the slot or wrap a fine microfiber cloth (eyeglasses cleaning cloth)  around a business card and insert it gently inside the slot.
If no success, make an appointment at an Apple store genius bar and get a free diagnosis from them.

  • How to burn a slideshow to a CD?

I can preview a slideshow on Adobe Bridge, wondering how to burn that slideshow to a CD?

Thank you, found a Julieanne Kost video in which she demonstrated how to create a PDF slideshow (exactly what you suggested) and what I was looking for. I would have been able to add background music if I created a "video" slideshow within Photoshop but that was a little too complicated. Once I got the PDF file, I had no problem burning it to a CD. I use a Macbook and I did have to go to "get info" and change the embedded application to open it from "Preview" (default) to "Adobe Reader" so that non-Mac users would be able to open the file. Preview would not play it as a slideshow either, was just a gallery of photos, not sure what was going on. Thank you for your response!

A Bridge-created pdf might do this or a close equivalent:  Bridge Output to Pdf with slide show files selected; in layout select 1 column 1 row; set overlays, header and footer as desired, then set playback options and save (creating the pdf).

  • How to burn a cd that works on most cd players.......

Hi there, I got a questions, kinda silly but i just cant figure it out. How do I burn a cd so that it plays on most cd players?? Like, on Windows ont he program Nero, if I choose the option Copy Cd, it will make an exact duplicate of an original cd right, but on the mac theres no option or anything, its just drag and drop.
So what I have done is copy the files from the original cd to the desktop, then copy them to another cd and click burn. But this doesnt work, its burned like a data cd I think, not audio cd.
    I dunno.....any help please??

    Hi Alfred
In iTunes go to Preferences > Advanced > Burning
Set Disc Format to Audio CD and set the time you want between tracks (2 secs is normally about right).
Close preferences, create a playlist of tracks and burn a CD directly from iTunes.
This will play on most standard CD players =0)

If you are backing up, you should burn them as data, not audio (as macmenno stated).

  • How to burn?

i got my imac g5. im still a new mac user. anyone teach me how to burn a dvd? i got the dvd, but i want copy the original dvd to another copy. anyone know how to to do? thanks

There are a couple of things you need to understand.
You need to familiarize your self with the burner you have in your machine.
Not all burners are the same and are not capable of burning all the different media's on the market. DVD-R is the most widely recognized and used.
DVD+R and all the RW are not as recognizable to all Players and Computers.
There are several different ways to burn from your MAC.
    iTunes.
    iDVD.
    Disk Utility.
are but 3 that your Mac can use without any other Software.
You have the option of burning
    Audio.
    Video.
    Data.
If you are wanting to burn Commercial DVD Movies you will need 2 pieces of Software. Mactheripper, for the encryption and security on the commercial Media, and either Popcorn or Toast 7 that will burn and compress the larger commercial DVD's to fit on a Standard 4.7 gb disc.
    http://www.roxio.com/en/products/popcorn/index.jhtml?ccid=google&o_e25=Paid%20Se arch&gclid=CNTG2ZaXpYMCFTaWJAodwEoCNw
Here is the Software for copying.
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/22715
I suggest you do a google search on the subject.
There are several people that do not and will not discuss this.
I have given you the basic information you need.
    Cheers Don

  • How to burn CD for PC user minus the Mac OS X .ds_ invisibles?

Does anyone know how to burn a CD so that it doesn't include all the Mac OS X invisible files? If I pop a CD into my PB and drag the files/folders onto it and burn the CD (from the Finder), the PC users inevitably whine about all the .ds_store and .ds_somefile junk that goes along with the files. I've used a utility called DS_Store Cleaner to strip out the .ds_store files, but it doesn't strip out the .ds_somefile detritus.
Any ideas how to burn PC friendly CDs? Thanks.

I wondered if one could seek out and delete the invisibles before burning the CD by using the CMD-F search feature (as you might delete normal files from the hard disk within a search results window). That's what I was reporting back on.
You can, but OS X will create a new one almost immediately. Since part of the function of the .DS_Store file is to hold the size, position and listing option for a folder window, it has to be there. Even just to be a placeholder for a default window. They're like bunnies. They multiply too quickly to eradicate.
but I don't think OS9 left as many invisible files floating around.
There's certainly more invisible files overall in Unix, but per folder, they're not much different. OS X uses .DS_Store files, OS 9 used FINDER.DAT. One for each and every folder with either OS.
Believe me, my life would be far simpler and more enjoyable if every one of my acquaintances would just use a Mac.
    Say, "Amen"!
I just spent one hour (!!!) on the phone with the guy I burned the CD for explaining how to move the Word and Excel file onto his desktop so he could update them.
Ick! These are the same people who when you say, "Click on the file...", they immediately ask, "With the left or right button?".
