  • How to burn a data DVD?

Do I need to buy toast to do it? Or is there some build in software that I'm un aware of?

Insert a blank DVD, select "Open Finder", drag and drop whatever you want to burn into the DVD icon in the desktop and:
    - double click on the DVD icon to show its contents and click on "Burn".
    or
    - open a new Finder window and click on the burn icon next to the DVD on the left window.
    or
    - Click on the DVD icon on the desktop, click on "File" on the menu bar and select "Burn Disc...".

Every programm which depends on mkisofs (K3b, Gnomebaker etc) fails.
do any of them spec an error message?
maybe start one from a terminal and see if they throw out any info on why it chokes.
    Edit:
looks like mkisofs / growisofs / iso9660 limitiation. Readup :-

You mention not wanting to split files. also nero.
would this be for multi-media DVD's by any chance ?
    Edit2: possible workaround: here

why nero can? maybe as it uses UDF/ISO9660 Bridge "bridge" being the operative bit.

  • How do I burn a data disc that's compatible with Windows?

Everytime I burn a data disc on my Mac, it isn't compatible with PCs. It doesn't matter what PC I put the Mac data disc in, the PC crashes and gives me a BadPoolHeader blue screen. I take the disc out and have to restart the computer, once the disc is out everything is fine. My PC, which runs Windows XP, has an 2nd internal hard drive, which I use as a storage drive. I just want to transfer files from my Mac to the PC, so I can store some of my Mac's files (photos, word documents, music, and such) on that storage drive. I'm using a CD-R disc. Is there a way to burn a PC compatible data disc on my Mac? How can I do this (steps)? If it helps, I'm using Mac OSX 10.4.11.

Thank you so much Kappy, your steps worked! I can now make PC readable data disks, yay!
dbsneddon, I was also dragging and dropping into a burn folder and just hitting burn, but the discs that were created weren't readable in PCs, only on Macs. My friend tells me he is able to make discs that can read in PCs by just dragging and dropping too. My Mac is just being mean I think. It always has issues, it can never do anything that simple without giving me a problem lol.

I use Verbatim DVD+R DL with perfect success.
I would start with a R/W DVD and just burn a test file or two.
One reason I use Toast is exactly what you experienced. Finder/DU burning usually works OK.
The key word there is usually.
I have never had a problem with Toast Titanium.
If you google with your error you get all kinds of issues/solutions.
One says that using an external drive worked but the internal did not.
    I think it's a Catch-22 error.
There are also some settings that determine disk speed, write speed, etc. stored somewhere.
You can try the next step which is to use the disk utility directly. Open DU and click on the optical drive. From there you should be able to select the image you have and burn it.
If that fails, consider Toast, as I did. I have not used the DU/Finder burner since I got Toast.

  • How to burn data CD/DVD that opens to the first level of folders?

I want to burn a data disc (with Toast if possible) that automatically opens up to the first level of folders with no toolbar when inserted.

    Neither.
This what the Audio CD option is for.

  • Error when trying to burn a Data DVD

Whenever I try to burn a Data DVD I get the same error - "The items in this playlist will not fit on one data disc." The playlist in question is 2.88gb, well under the 4.3gb limit. Is this a known issue? I remember an older version of iTunes would do something similar to this, but I thought that was corrected.
iTunes 7.7.1, MacBook 1.83ghz Core Duo, 2gb RAM, MacOS X 10.5.4 (fresh install, not one week old) and an LG DVD-RW GH22LP20 burner, which is BRAND new, just got it an hour ago to replace a failing Pioneer unit which would no longer burn DVDs.
Also, how do I get iTunes to stop asking me if I'm sure I want to burn a Data DVD? Of course I'm sure! That's why I'm doing it!

I don't know why you are getting that error, but one work around might be to put the blank in, let it mount on your desktop, then simply do a Select All on the playlist and drag and drop them to the DVD icon on the desktop. After the Mac finished make a cache file of everything, when you drag the DVD towards the trash it should turn into a BURN icon.

  • PSE4 How to burn slide show to DVD

I have created a slide show with over 200 photos and added music. After saving it (which took 45 min.) I want to save it to DVD. When I open the burn page it only has VCD option. How do I get it to burn to DVD. I have a Gateway Computer wit an NEC DVD burner. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    David

    David,
Below is an extract from a discussion I had with others on forums who had your current dilemma. Adobe's answer is generally to use Adobe Premiere Elements to burn the DVD; if you have it installed there is a additional option to burn to DVD on that menu. However, you may have other choices.
If you have a DVD burner, want to make a PSE 3 or 4 slide show that plays on a TV DVD player, and do not have Premiere Elements:
    - create a WMV file using DVD NTSC or DVD PAL (according to your country TV standards) as the OUTPUT parameters
    - then read the doc that came with the software that supports your DVD burner (might be Nero, Sonic, Roxio) looking for a function that will create a Video DVD (note that it must specifically be creating/authoring a VIDEO DVD intended for play on TV rather than just burning a data DVD). Once you find this function, use your WMV file from PSE 4 as the input and choose the software options that give you a video DVD.
Based on my experience and conversing with others on forums, this will give you a DVD that is significantly better quality than the Elements VCD (written to a CD) and but not quite as good as a program that does a slide show direct to DVD. Quality is a subjective judgement, so I am not saying this is the answer for everyone. However, my philosphy is generally to try the software I have first before purchasing additional software.
Notes: For Sonic, I used a MyDVD limited edition that came with my burner. For Nero, I communicated with someone who did it with Nero Vision Express. I don't have any specifics for Roxio.
Notes: Creation of the WMV will almost always take a long time - depending on the number of slides and the number and type of transitions, zooms, pans. Each photo must downsized in resolution, then each individual type of motion must be applied; these photos must then become frame per second video (a significantly different format translation). All this takes time and processor power.

  • How to burn video in iTunes?

I just went out and bought 10 DVD+RW's so I could burn some TV shows and movies and watch them on my DVD Player on my TV. I CANNOT FIND THE OPTION TO BURN THEM!!! I burned a data DVD but itunes put it in .m4v format, and I cant watch that on my DVD player. How do I burn videos to my DVD?

If you are talking about tv shows and movies you bought from the iTunes store, the DRM prevents that. You can watch them on your iPod, in iTunes or Quicktime or hook your iPod up to your TV with appropriate cables and watch them on your TV that way (works quite well, actually).
If your talking about video content acquired elsewhere, I don't know the answer except that it would probably require other software. iTunes doesn't do that.
    Best,

  • How to burn a slideshow to a CD?

I can preview a slideshow on Adobe Bridge, wondering how to burn that slideshow to a CD?

Thank you, found a Julieanne Kost video in which she demonstrated how to create a PDF slideshow (exactly what you suggested) and what I was looking for. I would have been able to add background music if I created a "video" slideshow within Photoshop but that was a little too complicated. Once I got the PDF file, I had no problem burning it to a CD. I use a Macbook and I did have to go to "get info" and change the embedded application to open it from "Preview" (default) to "Adobe Reader" so that non-Mac users would be able to open the file. Preview would not play it as a slideshow either, was just a gallery of photos, not sure what was going on. Thank you for your response!

A Bridge-created pdf might do this or a close equivalent:  Bridge Output to Pdf with slide show files selected; in layout select 1 column 1 row; set overlays, header and footer as desired, then set playback options and save (creating the pdf).

  • How to burn slideshow to dvd

How burn slideshow from aperture to dvd

Have you already created a slideshow in Aperture (File > New > Slideshow)? Then use the "Export" button of the upper right corner to render the slideshow as a video file. Set the "Export for" pop-up menu to the format you need for the device where you want to watch the slideshow.
Once you have the video, you can either use the Finder to burn a data DVD from it (but that cannot be played in a DVD player) or use burn software to create a video DVD, that you can play in a DVD player. You will need special software to do this (Burn, iDVD), see this user tip for options:

  • Burning a data DVD

I don't know how to go about burning information onto a DVD-R in data format. I want the information in data format so that I can fit more info onto it. I've used Microsoft all my life because I guess it's a family thing. but I bought a new mac recently and I am just starting to get the hang of it.
the thing is Microsoft windows was able to burn data CD's and DVD's. But I have no clue if macs are capable of burning data DVD's. I saw that itunes had the option of burning dvd data.but I was wondering if Finder had an easier way of doing this.

    Ah. That's different.
An audio CD has tracks - data files - in uncompressed format - usually .aiff
So an audio cd can take a number of .aiff files as long as they are not too long - if you pop in a cd and look at it in the finder you'll see the .aiff files. Each song on a cd is therefore an .aiff file of - I'm guessing- say 50mb for 3 minutes.
A CD player is looking for .aiff files. So when you take a compressed audio file - e.g. mp3 and say "burn to cd" - the software will just "upconvert" the small file to a big one by extrapolating the data (guessing). This will not sound very good, although many people won't mind it too much.
If you have something to play the compressed files on e.g a cd player which plays mp3s, then you can just burn them to a disk using the finder - or even itunes - at their normal size and get lots more songs on the cd. In which case the answer Neuroanatomist gave you earlier is correct - just try it.
For more advanced burning options, get Roxio Toast - which is like Nero and will easily create the "Data DVDs" you're after. Disc burning is an odd thing, sometimes players can be finicky.
So try iTunes first - in itunes, create a playlist and use "burn playlist to disk" - you can set it to Data DVD or CD in iTunes preferences/advanced/burning.
    Best of luck.

  • How to burn FROM LIBRARY?

    Howdy-
How can I burn a CD of music straight from my library? I know I can burn from a playlist, but say I want to burn a certain album. I do a search in the upper right, and that album is displayed, along with other songs by that artist. If I highlight all items I want on a CD, I can't find a way to simply burn THOSE songs. I don't want to make a playlist, since that's a silly extra step.
    Any ideas? THANKS!

    Hi Woody
All burnings takes place from within a playlist. You need to first create a playlist from which you can add the songs that you want to burn.
    File > New playlist
At the bottom of the playlist you will see the total playing time. Remember that a normal 700mb CD-R can store max 80 mins (78 mins to be on the safe side). If you burn an Audio CD.
If you burn a Data CD (mp3 files) it can store 700mb. But it will not play in most CD players. A Data CD is mostly for backing up the files. However some players can play mp3 CD's. But you then need to make sure that the files are in mp3 format.
