How to burn a DVD-Video out of iMovie without iDVD (pre-installed Lion)?

I am wondering how I could burn a DVD that works on standalone DVD players out of iMovie since iDVD has been banished from Macs with pre-installed OS X 10.7 Lion.
When I try to export iMovie projects to iDVD the machine naturally cannot find the program. How is the workaround instead?
Thx for your help (Mac newbie).

I have the same issue as olifinger

I was curious to know, how well does "burn" work?  Please advise, thanks

  • How to burn a DVD or CD from iMovie format to play in Windows format

I have made three videos of OLD family films and need to be able to burn copies to give as Christmas gifts that will play on standard DVD players and I do not know how to save as a format other than one that only plays in iTunes, etc.
Please let me know if you can help me as I need to produce these discs before next weekend as my family will meet for Thanksgiving to do their Christmas!

Going direct to iDVD works if your source event is DV or AIC. If you start with something else you need to use the Media Browser. Many people feel that the Media Browser h.264 copies give better results than DV directly, but you should test this for yourself and see what works for you.
For example, if you are doing a slide show from iPhoto jpegs, you will not have the option of going directly to iDVD.
There is no particular advantage in sending DV or AIC directly to iDVD, because iMovie must render the movie anyway. There is no such thing in iMovie as "passing through" DV without rendering it.

  • How to burn a DVD in Premier Elements 13 without a theme?

In the other Premier Elements you were able to take your project and burn straight to a DVD without applying a theme. I am not finding that option in 13. What am I missing?

    JimESmythe
    Thanks for the reply.
Assuming, Premiere Elements 13 is on Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit.
When you go to Publish+Share, the instant that you click on Disc, you should see a pop up message relating to
whether or not you want to proceed with disc menus. Have you seen that message at all?
I am demo'ing this with Premiere Elements 12/12.1 at this time. But it should be the same for version 13.
I do not have 13 at this time to road test.
What happens when you go from the Expert workspace/Edit area to Publish+Share/ and click on Disc?
If all you ever see is the Movie Menu customization area with a theme, then click Reset, Done, and then go
to Publish+Share and click Disc to get the pop to which you respond No.
If that does not work, then delete the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file and, if necessary, the whole 12.0 Folder
in which the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file exists.
    Local Disk C
    Users
    Owner
    AppData
    Roaming
    Adobe
    Premiere Elements
    13.0
and in the 13.0 Folder is the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file that you delete. And, if necessary, you delete the
whole 13.0 Folder in which it exists. Be sure to be working with Folder Option Show Hidden Files, Folders, and Drives
active so that you can see the complete path cited.
Please review the above and then we can discuss this further.
    Thank you.

Congratulations on the new Mini. Are you saying you tried burning and it does not play, or do you want to burn it only for the computer to be able to play it?
OS X Mountain Lion: Burn a CD or DVD may help.

You post with the generalized question regarding where to find instructions for the Premiere Elements burn to DVD. You were given those.
Now you write (with no in between message)
I need specific answers or no other suggestions.
I fully understand that and appreciate that. That is why I make it a point to customize my reply to the specific question being ask or to the
details of "what is not working". Where do I find your specific question and details in this thread so far?
So, to get to the specifics, just what is your specific burn to DVD issue that is causing to you write. There are many points along there way
where you may be stuck in the process.
If you read my question you can see where I’m stuck now
What are you doing when you get stuck. Telling me burning to DVD is not going to help.
    1. Do you know that after you edit your Timeline in the Edit area, you either go to Tools/Movie Menus or straight to Publish+Share/Disc/DVD disc?
    2. If so, how far do you get? Is it that you do not know the path or that you get hit with a program crash or any error message in the Publish+Share/Disc/DVD disc task? Is that where we are non communicating, distinguishing between the two?
I am prepared to give you right on answers if you can zero in on your question and details.
I want you to succeed. So, please help me to help you.
All I see from you so far is
I have edited a video with Premiere Elements. Now I cannot find instructions how to Burn this edited video to DVD or Blu-Ray disc. I have rendered to edited video. Where do I find the instructions to burn the video to DVD and also to Blu-Ray disc. I am a beginner and I need detailed instructions please. Remember when you were a beginner?  edokie
Looking forward to your follow up and a mutual understanding of your situation.

  • After I burn my DVD Video comes up instead of Menu

After I burn my DVD Video comes up instead of Menu.  How do I get rid of this?

Go into the Map mode of your iDVD project and make sure there is nothing listed in the Auto Play bin at the left.
If there is drag it out and try again.
Follow this workflow to help assure the best qualty video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • How to Burn a DVD

    Hi there,
how can I burn a DVD video? I have got in a HD directory Video_TS and Audio_TS subdirectories and I have no idea how to make a DVD video with them.
A sub-question would be how to play a DVD-Movie from HD directory, in other words how to play from the two subdirectories mentioned.
    Many thanks for your help.

    Hi ecano,
You should ask this of the iLife/iMovie forum. I could be totally wrong, but it seems that the _TS is analog and you first need to convert to a digital format that iMovie can play nice with.

  • How can I convert DVD- video into Apple's format so that it can be played and streamed from my Mac?

How can I convert DVD- video into Apple's format so that I can play the content on my Mac and also stream it to my Apple TV? A few years ago, I transferred all of my home videos onto DVD but now would really like to put these onto my Mac and stream them through Apple TV to watch on the "big screen". Any advice would be most welcome!! Thanks

    MPEG Streamclip.
Apple do not have their "own" format. You need to convert your DVDs to H.264 though.

  • HT1479 I would like to know how to burn a dvd in such a way that each image can be skipped over by pressing the skip button.

I would like to know how to burn a dvd in such a way that each image can be skipped over by pressing the skip button? If anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated!

Here's how top get a slideshow that will let the viewer manually control the forward and backward movement of the slides with the forward and back buttons on the DVD remote.
1 - put the images you want to use in an iPhoto album.
2 - launch iDVD, select a theme and add a slideshow using the "+" button at the bottom:
3 - click on the Media button at the lower right hand corner of the window and then click on the Photos button.
4 - locate the iPhoto album containing your photos and drag it into the left hand pane:
5 - select Side Duration to Manual.
In order to get the maximum manual control of the slides you cannot have add any music to the slideshow.  If you do add music the slideshow will continue you advance unless you pause the slideshow and/or use the advance/back buttons and then pause.
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the  File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option.  This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image and launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding was good.
