i recently up date my imovie 11. And i got imovie 10, i do not  see the option to burn my porojets to dvd.

You will need some movie burn software such as iDVD, Roxio Toast, or google for other possibilities; then export your project and import it into the burn software.

  • How to burn AVI on a DVD using iDVD

    Hello folks,
I have a number of old movies in AVI format. I can play these without any problems in QT on my Mac - I have Perian installed and Flip4Mac.
I open iDVD, then create a new project, add the AVI file, then iDVD starts crunching the file for a while (about one hour or so, depending on how long the movie is), then, when it's about to start burning it on the disk it quits with an error message saying something about 'error at multiplexing'.
I even tried to convert my AVI file into MOV (with this: http://www.macxdvd.com/mac-video-converter-pro/?run.mxconverter ) but I still have the same issue.
I know that I can burn it directly to a DVD using other programs (like Toast) but I am not willing to spend some more money for it. Ont he other hand, I want to add chapters and a simple menu, so that I can skip back and forth when needed.
To be noted that other projects coming from my camcorder are OK.
Any idea on how can this be acomplished?
Many thanks in advance for your help.
    L

Assuming the movie is not copy protected, you might have better luck with this free download from apple's web site before adding the file to iDvd:
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/video/mpegstreamclip.html
An AVI is a container, not a format; no single component or method will work for all AVIs
If you need help using mpegstream clip then simply use the search field on the upper right corner of this page.
Hope it helps but if not just come on back.

  • How to burn an iPhoto CD/DVD using a DIFFERENT picture format ?...

    Hello,
    Here's a tricky problem:
My iPhoto Library only includes heavy TIFF images. I'd like to share an album with a friend, i.e. burn this album on a CD or DVD within iPhoto. But I would prefer burning JPEG images instead of TIFF, because more images would fit on a single disk (and also because display would be much faster).
Is there any way to do this using iPhoto 6 ? Can iPhoto "internally" convert images from a format to another ? What is the best route to follow ?
Any answers will be very appreciated. Thanks in advance.

This is always a difficult problem. So far the best solution I have found is to use a script called iPhoto Keyword utilities (available at http://scriptbuilders.net/files/iphotoiptckeywordimportexportutilities1.0.html). It will export your keywords to the IPTC Keyword file of the original and modified files in iPhoto.
So far I have not found an easy way to export the comments into a related IPTC field. As for the ratings, I make a keyword for each rating, and then reassign the ratings from the keywords. To change the format, you can either export directly into the new format, or export the original format and use another editor (Graphic converter or Photoshop) to batch change them. Then you would reimport the files into a new iPhoto Library. Sometimes iPhoto will automatically recognize the embedded keywords, or you may have to use the above scripts, or another script called "Metadata to iPhoto 1.0 script" by Barrrt (available on the iPhoto 6 Editing & organization discussions under "IPTC Metadata to iPhoto" section) to do this.
It sure would be nice to find an easier way to do it all! Maybe you can send a recommendation to apple.
You should also note that if you have changed the date or time on your photos in iPhoto, when you export them, they will not retain the new time. For this you can use another script, called PhotoInfo 1.04, also available elsewhere on this forum. Good luck!

    what does this mean?
You have a disc inside your optical drive.
Not sure what they mean by volume still in use, this apparentely is keeping me from burning info such a pictures and or video's,
    how can I fix this?
    Remove the extra disc.
    My answers are basic because:
You never told us which model iMac you have?
How you are burning?  Through iMac?  External burner?

  • If I download a video from my video camera to a new (current 1/12) iMac 21 inch, how can I burn it to a DVD using the computer itself. Is this possible? Do I need to buy additional software. Two salespeople at the Apple were a little confused about this.

The DVD recorder I'm referring to is one I've use for years. It is not attached to my aging iMac in any way. I simply play the video from my camcorder (mini-dv tape based Canon HV20)  into the DVD recorder and create a DVD that can be played in any DVD player. I can only do minimum editing so what goes in is what I get. This has been fine for creating dupes of the various things I shoot.
If I buy a new iMac (21 inch), I'd like to be able to download the video to the iMac through iMovie, work with it to whatever degree I wish, and burn it to a DVD that can also be played in any DVD player -- or to use as a master to dupe copies.
What I'm understanding from you and others is that this would be possible if Apple had included iDVD in the software that comes with the iMac, or if I purchase the iLife Family Pack, or buy the correct version of Toast. I'm hoping I can persuade Apple to sell me an iMac with iDVD installed.
Essentially I want to move from a basic process of creating DVD copies to the more sophisticated process of creating one from an iMac.
Thank you again for your help and wisdom.

  • I have problems with my films that become slightly jerky after I have imported and edited them in iMovie and then burned them onto a DVD using iDVD. I can see the weak jerkiness when panning in both laterally and vertically. I shoot with a camcorder Canon

and edited them in iMovie and then burned them onto a DVD using iDVD.
I can see the weak jerkiness when panning in both laterally
    and vertically.
I shoot with a camcorder Canon Vixia HF10. The camera has been set to deliver HD quality (1920x1080). But I have accidentally filmed with a frame rate of 60 (?).
When I import the films in iMovie I have been asked if I want to change to frame rate 30 (instead of 25). I have chosen 30.
Could it be the setting of a frame rate 60 in my camcorder that causes jerkiness when panning or what else?

  • Re user tip: How can I import a homemade DVD into iMovie for editing? - I've followed instructions so far so good, until I get to "You can then FILE/EXPORT USING QUICKTIME and choose Apple Intermediate Codec as your video codec. "  How do I do that?

Re AppleMan 1958 excellent user tip: How can I import a homemade DVD into iMovie for editing? -
I've followed instructions with success until  "You can then FILE/EXPORT USING QUICKTIME and choose Apple Intermediate Codec as your video codec. "  How do I do that?
I installed MGEG Streamclip 193b8 and used their utility to install quicktimempeg2 and got a message stating it was successfully installed.  (I'm on latest Maverick 10.9.2 on iMac)  Then I dragged the VIDEO_TS file from my home DVD into the streamclip app.  It asked which of 4 files to use, and I selected the first one.  Streamclip played the video with the sound.  so far so good. but now I cannot figure how to use quicktime player 10.3 to export this vob file out of streamclip.

Thank you for your quick reply and for clearing up my confusion.  I'm exporting the first section now.  I choose the smallest size, 3x4 but I'd prefer to go higher as this DVD was originally a VHS home movie.  I'm wondering if after three conversions (VHS,->DVD->MPEG) the resolution will be so poor as to not support a larger size frame?  If it can, what size should I select when I export?

have produced DVD using iMovie, now want to download this back to iMovie, will not read DVD, have been told a piece of software available - any chance anybody knows what?

Handbrake is not ideal for this.
You need to convert the VOB files in the TS-Folder of the DVD back to DV which iMovie is designed to handle. For that you need mpegStreamclip:
    http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html
which is free, but you must also have the  Apple mpeg2 plugin :
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2/
(unless you are running Lion in which case see below))
    which is a mere $20.
Another possibility is to use DVDxDV:
    http://www.dvdxdv.com/NewFolderLookSite/Products/DVDxDV.overview.htm
    which costs $25.
For the benefit of others who may read this thread:
Obviously the foregoing only applies to DVDs you have made yourself, or other home-made DVDs that have been given to you. It will NOT work on copy-protected commercial DVDs, which in any case would be illegal.
    If you are running Lion:
    From the MPEG Streamclip homepage
The installer of the MPEG-2 Playback Component may refuse to install the component in Lion. Apple states the component is unnecessary in Lion, however MPEG Streamclip still needs it.
To install the component in Lion, please download MPEG Streamclip 1.9.3b7 beta above; inside the disk image you will find the Utility MPEG2 Component Lion: use it to install the MPEG-2 Playback Component in Lion. The original installer's disk image (QuickTimeMPEG2.dmg) is required.
The current versions of MPEG Streamclip cannot take advantage of the built-in MPEG-2 functionality of Lion. For MPEG-2 files you still need to install the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component, which is not preinstalled in Lion. You don't have to install QuickTime 7.

  • How can I save previews for old projects, while burning the project to DVD?

I'll admit, I haven't read the user manual cover to cover (or screen to screen for the electronic version), and haven't spent hours combing the discussions here, but I have searched for all the relevant keywords I can think of and can't find a concise answer to this question.
I get the basic idea of Vaults (I think), but haven't found much info about long term storage of projects. I'm fulltime freelance, but not super busy, and I can easily generate 100,000 images each year. I don't have the cash to be keeping all of these images in Aperture projects on external hard drives for eternity, and I'd be surprised if anyone else does. Good thing I'm not a medium format digital shooter producing 50GB each day huh?
I remember seeing a clip of a photographer 2 or 3 years ago discussing the differences between storing digital and film images. He was making the point that throwing away files you don't think you'll need again can be a mistake, citing a shot he had of Clinton and Lewinsky together, before Clinton and Lewinsky were news. "If I'd been shooting digital, that image wouldn't exist today". It was a great pic, and when that whoel scandal erupted, it made him alot of money.
So at present I'm storing every image I take in finished projects on DVD trusting that in the future I'll be looking for a shot of someone I may have shot 5, 10, 15 years ago.
I caught part of a discussion that talked about keeping the preview files for all the images (and subsequent versions) for each project. I'd love to be able to keep lo-res previews/copies of everything I've shot to date, and have them immediately accessible on my hard drive, while my full size projects are safely stored on DVD, taking up space on a bookshelf rather than on my hard drive. Loading 10 DVD's worth of projects to see what's inside them is a headache I'd like to avoid if possible, in favour of instantly checking out lo-res previews to look a shot up.
Is there an easy way to burn a completed project to DVD, but keep only the (lo res, lo size) previews on my hard drive?
20" iMac and G4 Powerbook   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   "A creative and dynamic professional" (I lie alot and can't sit still)

    hello, kiwi
quote: "Is there an easy way to burn a completed project to DVD, but keep only the (lo res, lo size) previews on my hard drive?"
    yes.
    maybe,...
    1. you might think of making DVD backups first prior to importing the photos into Aperture. "Store Files: In their current location" once in Aperture make low rez Previews, and export finished Project.
    or,
    2. bring in the photographs to hard drive first prior to importing the photos into Aperture. "Store Files: In their current location" once in Aperture make low rez Previews, and export finished Project.
the low rez Previews will stay in Aperture but the high quality Versions will be exported onto DVDs and gone from the hard drive (if you delete the originals).
another way would be to export small about 50-70 pixel wide high quality jpegs to a folder on your Desktop and import & keep these in Aperture Library as a reference. make metadata to show where the original Project DVDs are stored and DVD filing system used.

  • In simple steps. How to go from project to DVD

Ok I have 4 books and live rural... and its all greek... Once I have the project done... how do I get it to DVD in the best quality with the built in systems.
Just the facts please and thanks

I don't know what Mac you have. But I assume you have a Superdrive to burn DVDs...
Then when the FCE HD project is completed:
    - make sure you render all (opt-R) and mixdown the audio (opt-cmd-R)
    - if you want to see chapters in the DVD: set markers in the timeline where you want chapters: open the dialog of each marker (m), write the chapter name and click on botton Add chapter marker.
    - File/Export/QuickTime Movie: select Include: Audio and Video, Markers: Chapter Markers, deselect Make Movie Self-Contained (if selected it takes longer, it uses more disk space, but it makes the movie independent)
    - use iDVD that comes with your Mac (if with Superdrive...) to make the DVD
    - make sure the basic preferences are OK (PAL/NTSC, use Best Quality, etc.)
    - select a Theme you like
    - Import the movie exported from FCE
    - now, it all depends on your willingness to personalize menus and the theme you selected: you can leave the standard menus or you can personalize them.
    - when ready, burn the DVD directly, or better make a Disk Image first: you can check the results on your Mac before real burning (then you must use DiskUtility to burn the image).
These are the basic and minimal steps: they might seem many but in facts the longest time is the time iDVD takes to prepare the Image itself.
Obviously there are other options: using other DVD authoring programs, burning on external devices, if you don't have Superdrive, etc.
But these are the ... facts.
    Piero
