How to burn copies of home movies

I am trying to burn copies of videos made in school by my daughter, but when I try to add them to iTunes they do not add to library. To work around this I drag them to my desktop, convert to folders and burn the folders into DVD, but the burned DVD has only one file for audio and one for video but does not open automatically and play when I insert it. I know if I could get them into iTunes I could burn copies, but do not know how to do this and if I cannot get them into iTunes is there a way to burn them and have them open automatically and play on the DVD player when inserted. Would very much appreciate help.

Open Preferences > CDs&DVDs and make sure you have selected open DVD player when a video DVD is inserted. I don't know what the exact criteria for a "video DVD" happens to be. Do you have a VIDEO_TS folder at the top level of the disc? Sorry, but I don't have any home movie or DVDs lying around to experiment.

  • How do I transfer a home movie to videos on my ipad?

There's obviously a simple answer to my problem, but I can't seem to find it. I made a home movie on my mac. I shared it with iTunes. I then looked for it in videos on my ipad. No sign of it. I found it among the photos and videos in the camera section. How to I get this home movie into my videos. Homesharing is on, but clearly hasn't solved the problem. Do I have to sync my ipad with itunes on my mac? Seems a bit complicated for such a simple task. After all, I can email it to my family without a problem. Anyone tell me what I'm missing?

Have you tried clicking the share icon when it is selected (the box with and arrow at the top) to see if you get an option to "open in..." and then select videos app.
I have not done this so not sure it will work but an idea to try.

    That's a proprietary interface.
Odds are there is no adapter. Ask Sony.

How do I save a home movie from DVD to my MacBook Air. I have just downloaded the latest IOS 8.1 but have not installed ant apps for movies. I do have a couple of videos already saved.

    Hi ..
iOS 8.1 is the operating system for iPhones and iPads, not OS X for your Mac. Apps that run on iOS devices cannot run on our Mac and vice versa.
Since the MB Air does not have a DVD drive, in order to import the movie from the disc, you will need an external drive.
Check out the one's mentioned here >  http://lifehacker.com/5922047/how-to-survive-without-a-dvd-drive-in-your-laptop

How do I get my home movies and avi files to play on my ipad 3?

    1) Download a third party player on the iPad, such as avplayerhd or cinexplayer. Search app store for AVI and read some reviews.
    2) Convert the files in a program such as handbrake, mpegstreamclip on the pc and import them.
    3) Download air video from the app store, install the server software on the pc and stream away.
    Take your pick.

  • How would I edit and burn HD 3D home movies at 1080i/60i to a Blu ray player on an iMac?

I own a Sony HDR-TD30V HD 3D Camcorder and would like to edit and burn my 3D home videos (1080i/60i) to a Blu ray capable of playing on a home blu ray player or PS3 using iMac software.

Well, you won't be doing 3D with Final Cut Express!  (With FCE you could edit 2D filmed with your camcorder @ 1080i60 but not 3D.)
For that matter, Final Cut Pro X doesn't even handle 3D out of the box.  But there is a third-party plugin called Stereo 3D Toolbox that works with Final Cut Pro X.
As for BluRay, you will need an external BluRay burner and software that supports it ... like Roxio Toast Titanium.
Also, I noticed that your profile says you are using OS X 10.6.8 - I strongly suggest upgrading to 10.7 (Lion) or 10.8 (Mt. Lion) before investing in FCP-X and other video software.

  • How can I import my home movies (.dv) into iTunes?

I'm getting frustrated with the lack of information about converting movies with all the recent upgrades. I have many short home movies in a variety of formats (.dv, .mov. Mp4, etc) - how in the world can I get them into iTunes (and ultimately on my iPad) so I can share them? It looks like Quicktime Pro is no more and Quicktime 10 is grayed out under all the share options? I'm at a loss - do I need to go back to the original iMovie files and save as something else??? Thanks much!
Everything I have is the most recent, most up-to-date version you can have. Quicktime, iTunes, OS, iOS, etc - it's ALL the most recent version. Running a iMac G5 and iPad2.

You need to convert the VOB files in the TS-Folder of the DVD back to DV which iMovie is designed to handle. For that you need mpegStreamclip:
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/video/mpegstreamclip.html
which is free, but you must also have the  Apple mpeg2 plugin :
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2/
    which is a mere $20.
Another possibility is to use DVDxDV:
    http://www.dvdxdv.com/NewFolderLookSite/Products/DVDxDV.overview.htm
    which costs $25.
For the benefit of others who may read this thread:
Obviously the foregoing only applies to DVDs you have made yourself, or other home-made DVDs that have been given to you. It will NOT work on copy-protected commercial DVDs, which in any case would be illegal.

I have used iTunes to convert a home movie to a mp4a file. How do I get it onto my iPad? I have tried dragging it. Does not work.

Fire up I photo on the Mac.  Plug the pad in.  ( make sure you are not automatically syncing to I tunes.  ). On the left pane in I photo the pad will show up as a device.  Click on it and it should show all new pictures on the pad.  Select your video and at the top, click import selected.

  • Burn edited qt home movie to dvd?

hiya everyone, please help me ive recently recorded my mate wake boarding and wanted to edit the clips together and play some music over the top, i purchased qt pro and have managed to make a kick *** movie, my problem is there were 7 seperate clips which i copied - pasted together and saved sucsessfully and can watch the whole thing as one complete 21 minuite movie with new music tracks playing over the top, but when i went to burn it to dvd using nero i added the 21 minuite video file as usual but it only recognised the first clip 3 minuites long (where have the other 18 minuites gone?), i exported it to avi which gave me a poor quality video with no audio (no good) but nero did recognised the whole 21 minuite movie!. How can i put my edited movie on to disc as one complete 21 minuite movie and keep the high quality. original video format is mov and audio format mpeg layer 3 and im using windows xp. any info would be greatly appriciated. regards fulbz ps im a newbie to this so go easy on me. ;o)

    hiya quicktimekirk,
Its the first time i have edited a movie using qt pro and followed the step by step instructions to the letter, so i assume i have done everything correctly.
Yes the file works perfectly if i play it in quicktime, it plays as one complete 21 minuite (209mb) movie and is saved as one complete 21 minuite (209mb) movie with my added music playing over the top, its all perfect in quicktime.
But if i play it in nero show time it will only play the first 3 minuites and the screen will freeze, the audio continues for the entire 21 minuites but its not my added music, its the the original audio of the speed boat and me talking rubbish to the driver. exactly the same problem as when i try to burn it with nero.
So from what i can gather is basically nero cant read my edited movie file, how can i convert it so nero can recognise it?
Once again thankyou for you help and your patients it is greatly appriciated.
    kindest regards
    fulbz

  • How can I convert a home movie on dvd(vob file) to edit on imovie?

I had home movies converted to a dvd- the files are vob. Now I want to edit the movies in imovie.
I am having a difficult time converting from vob straight to mov files.
I purchased Quick Time Pro thinking that could do it, but I haven't been able to.
Also, it just says QuickTime Player Version 7.6.4 (518.35) on my computer.
Is it supposed to say QuickTIme Pro?
Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.

The "Pro" option just unlocks a lot of features in QuickTime Player. If you look at the registration info, it will show if you have Pro installed.
For converting DVD's you have two options; hardware or software.
The hardware option involves connecting a DVD player's analog outputs to a qualified "DV device" (DV camcorder, VTR or converter) then connecting the DV device's Firewire port to your Mac to capture the footage.
The software option involves using an application like DVDxDV or MPEG Streamclip to convert the DVD's VOB files into an editable format that works natively with your chosen NLE.

  • How do i edit a home movie on a DVD?

I just paid to have some home movies converted from VHS to DVD.  I loaded the DVD into my computer, expecting iMovie or iDVD to be able to allow me to basically edit the movies.  I learned that that's impossible without first downloading MPEG Streamclip which I did.  Then I learned that I still can't proceed without also paying $20+ for MPEG-2 Playback Component.  Apple says that Playback Component is not required with Lion, which I have.  But elsewhere, I read that I do need it.  Worse, most of the reviews say that it doesn't work, that there is no audio.  I don't have $20 to throw away.  And I'm not sure that, even if I did install Playback Component, that I'd have video, because I don't have it now.  Am I missing something here?  Is it true that iMovie won't import a video from a DVD that I can watch on the same computer, but it will import a movie from a camera?  (I don't have a camera.)  So: why am I not getting video, let alone not getting  audio?  And what can I do to edit a movie that's on an unprotected DVD?  Thanks.

    Hi aa,
dvd is end of the road, DVD uses a compressor (mpeg2) not meant for further processing..
Handbrake converts into mpeg4, another lossy compressor (not meant for editing...), which needs to be converted AGAIN for usage in iM...
    I would do....
get for 20$ the Apple mpeg2 plugin
and for free the tool Streamclip for converting mp1/2/4, divx, avi, vob...
(with that combo you can NOT override copyprotection mechanisms! ... )
    other tools are:
    * DVDxDV, it has a 30d trial period (testdrive sets a watermark)... and cost 25$
    * Cinematize >60$
    * Mpeg2Works >25$ + Apple plug-in
    http://danslagle.com/mac/iMovie/tips_tricks/6010.shtml
    http://danslagle.com/mac/iMovie/tips_tricks/6018.shtml
or connect Your Camera to a DVD-player and copy to tape or import trough if Your Camera handles that..
DVDxDV is a very good "beginner's tool", one-click-only + try out...

  • I am stuck in rentals in the videos app, how do i get to home movies screen?

I can't find a way to switch between home movies and rentals in the videos app on my ipad mini.  It's making me crazy!

    Hello there, sleepykatisalreadytaken.
Rentals should be visible from the "Choose a category" section displayed in the iPad User Guide here:
Videos at a Glance - iPad User Guide
    http://help.apple.com/ipad/7/#/iPad99cee74f
Open the Videos app to watch movies, TV shows, and music videos. To watch video podcasts, install the free Podcasts app from the App Store—see Podcasts at a glance. To watch videos you record using Camera on iPad, open the Photos app.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.

  • How can i organise my home movie video clips in iMovie in chronological order

    Hello,
    Can anyone help please?
I have masses of home movies that were taken on VHS, transferred them onto DVDs, then loaded these and put them onto imovies.  Perfect so far!
But now stuck, as they have been imported in reverse order into the Event Library, and I'd like them to be show in chronological order with the earliest taken showing up first, so I can use them for other projects easily without a huge amount of working out what happened, when!
    Many thanks,

If you import from a digital camera or camcorder, iMovie will automatically store your events in date order.
However, if you imported clips from an analog camcorder, like VHS or 8MM or Hi8, iMovie does not have any metadata to work with.
In this case, there are two ways to add back this metadata.
The simplest way is to right click on your Event clip and select Adjust Clip Date And Time. Do this for all clips in the event.
The other way is to name your clips before importing to imovie in this format:
    clip-yyyy-mm-dd hh;mm;ss.ext
where hh is hours in 24 hour time, and ext is the current file extension. If you name your clips this way, and then import to iMovie through FILE/IMPORT MOVIE then the clips will sort into the proper year.
Sometimes, when you import from a VHS tape ( or DVD of a VHS tape), you get one long clip for several events.
I have found I get good results by chopping up this clip into shorter clips corresponding to real world events (like birthday party, for example) so that the whole clip has the same date.
To do this I use a free app called MPEG Streamclip from Squared 5.
I first will find the long clip in the Finder. From iMovie, right-click on the long clip and select Reveal in Finder)
Then drag this clip into MPEG Streamclip.
Move the playhead to the beginning of the first short clip you want to make, and click I for in point. Then move the playhead to the end of the first short clip you want to make, and press O for outpoint. (i and o do not have to be capitalized).  Then FILE/EXPORT USING QUICKTIME in Apple Intermediate Codec. Name it as I mentioned above. (clip-yyyy-mm-dd hh;mm;ss.ext)
Then repeat for all additional shorter clips you need from that long clip.
