How to burn dual layers DVDs using DVD Studio Pro

Hi
I am having problem in burning the dual layer DVDs through Studio Pro. So what steps should I take to burn the DVDs.
Thank you

It would help greatly if you would elaborate on the specifics of your problem. Just saying you have a problem doesn't really tell us anything at all ... and most of us aren't mind readers.

  • How to activate subtitles in DVD Studio Pro

    Hi there,
So I have my subtitle track in DVD Studio Pro already done. I would like to know how I can make it so that when someone is watching the film, they can press the subtitle button and those subtitles will appear. I think I need to use scripts, but I've read numerous posts online and have yet to find one that explains it clearly enough. Can anyone help and give me a step by step guide through the process? Thanks in advance.

  • DVD Burning Error within DVD Studio Pro

    Hi There,
Tonight I tried to burn a DVD Studio Pro project to a DVD. Up until now it has been smooth sailing. Tonight when I went to burn my completed project, it began formatting and then I received a Unknown Device Error after the DVD drive worked for about 2 minutes. If anyone has any ideas or if you think I need a new drive please let me know. The drive information is below:
    MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-846:
    Firmware Revision: FQ3T
    Interconnect: ATAPI
Burn Support: Yes (Apple Shipping Drive)
    Cache: 2048 KB
    Reads DVD: Yes
    CD-Write: -R, -RW
    DVD-Write: -R, -RW, +R, +R DL, +RW
    Write Strategies: CD-TAO, CD-SAO, DVD-DAO
Media: Insert media and refresh to show available burn speeds

First thing is to diagnose if the drive is a problem by putting in a DVD and trying a burn other than from Studio Pro. How's that work?
The formatting part is interesting, formatting what exactly?

  • How to loop track in DVD studio pro

I'm trying to loop the main track in DVD Studio Pro and can't remember how?

    Hi Steve,
The DVD-Video Specifications provides instructions for this and luckily, DVD Studio Pro allows us to implement it:
Set the last chapter's end jump in the Connections Window to the first chapter in your Track (Title PGC).  This places the DVD Specifications 'Link Program' cell command, which keeps navigation in the Title.
Linking a Track back on itself with a Track End Jump setting causes mutliple, unneccessary player laser seeks through the Video Manager Domain, e.g, A 'Call VMG PGC#' command 'jumps system' the head of the disc into the Video Manager, then into a VTSM 1 PGC, then back through the VMG again and finally back into the Title - no sense allowing these extra seeks as some players on their bad hair days and on players that are already borderline compatible barely playing a DVD-R - can balk.
    Take care,

  • How to "Play All" in DVD Studio Pro

Hello: I'm putting a dvd together that has a collection of short films on it, and I'm listing each film on the menu, but I also wanted to add a "Play all Movies" option to the menu.  I know how to create the button, but I'm not figuring out how to make the target of the button all of the movies.  Do I have to link all of them together in final cut first and make a single movie file out of them, or is there and easier way to make them all play in dvdstudio?
    Thanks...Mark

  • How can I burn an iMovie project in DVD Studio Pro?

I created a DVD in iMovie for a friend, then burned the disc with iDVD. When I play it on my home DVD player it looks and sounds fine - but when he plays it on his DVD player, it looks fine but the audio is poor and echoes a lot. I looked at his setup, and he has DTS (digital theater sound), and from my primitive research, I found out the iDVD does not support DTS. I do however own DVD Studio Pro 3 which supposedly does support DTS - however I have never used this program and need some help figuring it out.
Is it possible to take the project that I created in iMovie and burn it in DVD Studio Pro so that it would be compatible with a DTS setup? I would need very specific steps to doing this because I have never used DVD Studio Pro before.

and he has DTS (digital theater sound), and from my primitive research, I found out the iDVD does not support DTS. I do however own DVD Studio Pro 3 which supposedly does support DTS
iDVD creates DVDs with uncompressed audio (PCM). DVDSP (FCStudio) has no DTS conversion capabilites, just Dolby Digital (AC3).
I think that your friend DTS system must play stereo PCM too; you could check in its documentation.
What I do know is that DVDs with uncompressed audio (we are talking about computer created and burned ones in particular) can be difficult to play fine in some players because the high bitrate.
I'm not an iMovie expert but as far I remember you can export your movie from there as high quality video (you must get a QuickTime movie with same settings that your footage) and convert it to MPEG2 video and AC3 audio using Compressor, and finally importing those assets to DVDSP.
    I hope this help !

  • Setting Burn Speeds in DVD studio 4

    Hello,
I want to burn a master copy for a dvd i am making and i was wondering how you set the slowest burn speed to ensure the highest quality? Thanks very much.
    -Phil Smage

You can't change the burn speed in DVD Studio Pro. In order to burn at a slower speed, you'll need to create a disc image and burn that with something like Toast or Disk Utility.
To create a disc image, do a Build & Format. In the Destination section of the window that appears, change the output device from your burner to "Hard Drive". Leave the Output Format at ".img" since it sounds like you're just burning copies and aren't sending it to replication.
When it's done, burn this disc image with one of the above listed programs and you'll be able to change the burn speed.
Note that if you're creating a disc image of a dual-layer project, the break point you specified will be lost, and Toast will simply fill up the first layer and then switches to the second. This is because no layer break information is included in the image file.
If you have Toast, you can also just build the VIDEO_TS folder and burn a disc from that. Toast 7 and above is smart enough to ignore the extra files that DVDSP puts in there.

  • Burn in DVD Studio Pro only says Video Bitrate too high

My camera is a Sony Ex1 and I have a 1 hour and 7 minute video that I have sent through Compressor to DVD Studio Pro, which I have done many times before upgrading to FCP 7, and now when I try to build it, it always tells be that the video bitrate is to high. I have gone though preferences and reduced the bitrate to 3 and max 5 and it still does it. I have also made a Quicktime movie and tried to build and burn it in DVD Studio Pro and that does not work either. I have no problem viewing it in DVD Studio Pro when I simulate it.
I would appreciate any help you guy could give me. This is just a hobby, but I have been doing it for over 5 years and have never had this problem.

When I got DVD Pro 7, I installed 10.6 on a new 1 Tb hard drive and then installed DVD Pro 7, so it was installed on a completely new drive. When I ran my movie through Compressor, I did it two times. One with the DVD 90 Best, one with a suggestion by the new book on Studio Pro 4 (average 4.5 Mbps, Max 7.5 Mbps. I also made a Quicktime Movie. I did have to try several times to get it through Compressor, after hours FCP would quit before it was finished, but I did get it to work
It could be spiking with the 7.5, doubtful, but could be even with AC3 audio.
Try this to see if it works - Export the Final Cut movie as self contained movie (is that what the QuickTime Movie was, the entire timeline self contained?) Sorry I am a bit unclear as to whether you got that to go through Compressor or was it the timeline from FCP, which quit, but successfully went through Compressor. Perhaps it is related to Snow Leopard.
When you look at the build files on your hard drive, is it crashing out at the same point?
Take a look here http://dvdstepbystep.com/vts.php at the image at the bottom, does the build get to the same spot and/or does it throw the error in the log at the same part? Anything else in the log?
Anyway, there would be a few things to try.
I would think the easiest is to
1.) Export a small section of the movie from Final Cut as a self contained movie.
2.) Bring that movie into Compressor and run Compressor on it (including AC3 files) then bring that into DVD SP to see if it builds.
If it does, it would seem to be that there may be a spike causing the error (are you using multiple video streams, subtitles or anything else or is is a straight one video/one audio on the track.)
If that works it would seem to be a spike issue, especially if the error is thrown at the some spot in the building process.
If it gets past that, export the entire timeline and run it through Compressor and see if that works, dial down the top bitrate a bit for the video.
You could also do some other things (make another partition for an install of Leopard, not Snow Leopard, try a new user, etc.) but the above may be the easiest to start with.
When you say it takes hours to send from Final Cut, is that sending from Final Cut to Compressor or Final Cut to a self contained movie? Of course alot of this depends on your Final Cut timeline, codecs, color corrections, renders and the rest, but on a Octo it should not be painfully long for a 1 hour few minutes movie. I ave Final Cut 7 on a laptop and it does a pretty good job speedwise on some HDV timelines, which are a pain to send out. You may want to check things like where you set your scratch disks, when you are putting the media etc. (More as an aside FYI)

  • What to send to DVD Studio Pro

My son just finished his final year of Youth Football, and I want to make dvd's of all his games over 4 years to give to his teammates.  I have made some in iMovie sent to iDVD, but I felt the quality is very poor.  I used a Sony HDR-HC3 and shot in 1080i for most of it, switching to a Panasonic HDC-TM700 shooting 60fps 1080p for the last year.  I always used the highest quality settings for the workflow.  I now have Final Cut Studio in my possesion, so would like to try DVD Studio Pro.  My Question is:  Will a QT movie exported from iMovie 6 or 9 be the same quality as one exported from Final Cut Express or Pro?  Should I send them to Compressor, and if so will Compressor 4 work with DVD Studio Pro?  I edited the HDV in iMovie 6 but could redo.  The AVCHD video was edited in iMovie 9.
Basically, I have all the iMovie, Final Cut Express, and Final Cut Studio versions at my disposal.  What would be the workflow to get the absolute best DVD quality?  I plan on giving a SD disc and a Blu-Ray disc (on a regular DVD but playable on a Blu-Ray for HD) of each game to each boy/parent.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you.

My Question is:  Will a QT movie exported from iMovie 6 or 9 be the same quality as one exported from Final Cut Express or Pro?
Depends how your iMovie projects were exported, for example HDV in to HDV out or converted to something else on output like H.264?
Note that not all QuickTime movies are equal .mov is just a container -the video inside could use any one of a number of codecs.
Final Cut gives you the opportunity to export to QuickTime using Current Settings -same as your Timeline. Assuming it was set up correctly to begin with, the exported film is identical to the material you shot. iMovie has something similar.
Should I send them to Compressor, and if so will Compressor 4 work with DVD Studio Pro?
Yes. Compressor 3 has time based DVD presets. You select one that the running time of your movie fits into.
Compressor 4 has a single preset in the "Disc Burning" folder. DVD Studio Pro will also encode the files it needs if you import the master file from your editing software directly. Compressor offers more control over the process.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Read the manuals for Compressor and DVD SP. I taught myself DVD authoring in a single afternoon with those resources. Buy a couple of DVD-RW discs -you can experiment, erase and re-use them. Better than burning through a spindle of -R discs just to throw them away afterwards.

  • DVD studio pro ,  " not enough ou put media "

But I a lot time I put 2 hurs on one DVD using DVD studio pro, so what's happened now and how can I empty the DVD studio pro from any past video project

Try sending your movie to Compressor from FCP and making the mpg2 for dvd there instead of converting it to mov and letting dvdsp do the work.

  • "Video Bitrate too high" message - DVD Studio Pro

I have been using the workflow of; video from FCP, through Compressor (best 60 minutes & Dolby Audio) and then on to the build & burn format in DVD Studio Pro and a final burn through Disk Utility for about two years with flawless success.
4 days ago I got the following "failed" message in the build & burn process in DVD SP: "Video Bitrate too high."
I have been trying to solve this problem with these solutions:
I threw away my DVD SP .plist file(s), exported new video from Compressor at a lower bit rate, Followed all the suggestions on the DVD SP troubleshooting basics web page, checked the discussions on this topic and followed some suggestions, uninstalled and reinstalled the whole FCP Studio, deleted files so my hard drive has more space, to no avail... I still get the message.
I have tried everything and can't imagine what else I can do. Would really appreciate if anyone has any suggestions.

Try deleting the MPEG and PAR files that were made and/or create a newly named M2v after re-encoding, could be something in those were corrupted. If you dropped in Dolby audio and using the preset without having changed it, it should work, but something can be glitchy. Also a chance there is a spike somewhere in the encoding...

  • Old Video Material umuxed on DVD studio Pro 4- wierd issues

    Hi,
I am building DVD Studio Projects from old VHS material, which I imported via MPEG Streamclip, to win quite some time (i.e. ENCODING!!)- A Client submitted the video files on a DVD's (used from a DVD/HDD Recorder, from what I could gather from the menu of the DVD's- plain simple Menus with Sony written all over with).
So far so good, I imported the individual video files as seperate m2v and ac3 files, so that I could "re-mux" the video files with DVD studio pro 4 rather easily. All the client wants is a nice menu presentation along with the video files.
Ok, so, I created the menus, and previewed them in DVDSP4, and one thing is striking me- the videos, although old, they have a few "jumpy" sequences in them (with TV snow for a second or so) and when I build & format the project as an imageon my HD, and play the project in the DVD player in OS X, all of the video sequences "freeze" when any kind of video disturbance (in this case the TV snow parts, etc.), but the sound continues, and as soon as the video comes up normally again, the pictures continues in snyc with the audio.
My (rather uncommon) question is- how do I get the DVD Studio Pro 4 Program to ignore those "interferences" and playback the videos smoothly as it has been with MPEG Streamclip? MPEG streamclip has been playing the videos back- including the Video disturbances.
I might be missing something when importing into DVDSP4, but I just can't figure it out...
Thanks in advance for any help!
Feel free to ask questions, I will try to respond ASAP.
    Cheers,
    Dominique

I'm having a similar problem with my menus. They look very jumpy on a tv screen but fine when I play them (as a dvd) on my computer.
