How to burn with DVDSP

Hi chaps, you may have spotted my other post outlining my problems, I have still not resolved the burning with Toast problems but as an alternative I thought I'd try burning in DVDSP however when I hit the 'burn' icon a message appears " Formatting successful formatting finished" what am I doing wrong (forgive my ignorance, I have been handed this project and know very little about DVDSP) Regards and have good weekends Roger

you may have spotted my other post outlining my problems,< </div>
Negative, not a clue.
A project that DVDSP interprets as already burned wither has no elements or has, in fact, been burned.
Try saving your project under a new name or making a duplicate of it at the Finder level. You want to maintain it s assets but you want to discard or at disassociate its MPEG and PAR files. You can do that a couple of different ways but the easiest might be to find them and place them in a trash before you launch DVDSP or, if you don't like that idea, copy the MPEG and other DVD encodes to a another drive and discard the originals.

  • Building in DVDSP, Burning with Toast

If I build in DVDSP and burn with Toast will Toast also recognize the Opening Menus and Chapter Index Menu? or do I have to do something special? Thanks for the reply. Also just out of curiosity what does Toast do during the burn process that DVDSP doesn't?

If you build the project in DVDSP then all you need to do in Toast is get it to burn the folders onto a UDF disc (Universal Disk Format). There are several ways to do this in Toast, depending on the version that you have got. Whichever way you choose shouldn't mean you need to change any menus or anything else - Toast can simply create a DVD from your VIDEO_TS folder, or it can use a disk image and burn that. You can also set it to create a UDV DVD-ROM and drop the Video and audio_TS folders into the wondow... none of these methods will alter the content of the folders.
Toast gives you the opportunity to burn at slower speeds than DVDSP. This is good, since a slower burn results in a more compatible DVD-R. However, there are those who regularly burn at the speed of light and don't get any issues, so let's hope more of us can get to that standard soon! The burn speed in DVDSP is calculated for you on the basis of the media capability and the writer speed... it will choose the maximum possible from the combination available.

  • How to burn multiple songs on a CD with the Bounce Burn?

    Hi!
I just recorded few songs, each song in a different project file. When use BOUNCE and then select BURN, it burns me a CD, but I cant put the other songs on it after... I would like to burn ALL my songs on the same CD. This is crazy to burn only one song per CD! How to do that?
    Thanks,
    Daniel

Best to bounce to any full fat file type, namely Wave or AIFF. In fact, if you browse the contents of a CD on a Mac, the audio files appear as AIFF files so that's as good a format as any. Just make sure that you've bounced as 16 bit, 44.1k and interleaved stereo, not separate left and right.
Dithering is an area that, if you ask 3 experts, they'll give you 4 opinions. Just try the different options and see which sounds best for your kind of music. I normally use POW-r #1.
Waveburner comes included with Logic - check out the folder where you installed Logic. However, yYou should be able to burn with any regular CD package (eg Burnx Free) without problems. Waveburer gives loads of other options and, unless you're a CD head, most will mean nothing. If you really, really, really want to get into that kind of thing check out the various staandards (called Rainbow Books), in particular, Red Book, White Book, Orange Book and Yellow Book. That will cure your insomnia...

  • How to burn a DVD with other DVD??

I'm new using the Mac OS. I don't know how to burn a DVD using another DVD, I try using the programs iDVD and iMovie HD but I think that they are for DVD creation, not for burning using another DVD
    Thanks

You can also donate to Mac the Ripper for version 3.0 beta. It has alot of new features that are pretty cool. Here is a link that shows some of the new stuff.

  • How to burn dual layer iDVD image with Toast?

OK so I'm a bit of a Mac newbie, but I've bought some DVD+R DLs and tried to burn this project that's filled to the rim (7.7GB, 99 titles). OK, so there's encoding, right? But after that process (which you know takes FOREVER in my case), the MacBook pops the DVD out everytime without doing anything. It did not even burn a thing. So, I initially know about the "Save into DVD Image" option in the file menu and it's currently encoding. And as you may also know, there will definitely be a prompt stating that dual layered images aren't guaranteed to work. But I'm hopeless because I need this by Sunday March 9 (American time). Will anyone suggest a method of burning so that the image, when I dismount it, will work? Or rather, after burning with Toast which I have, make it work on a DVD player? I set the ratio to 4:3 just to fit all those titles and the brand of DVD+R DL I bought is, IMHO, a not-so popular brand in the US, nor in the Philippines, called Universal. But I don't think that this is a matter of brand choice by the MacBook's drive, though. Because it is read as a blank DVD disc, and that I have the various options dialog box thingy displayed.

I didn't have much luck in Roxio. Sigh. I guess this is gonna be a hit or miss situation.
But here's another question: If I put more "assets" into the other project I'm doing (because I'm gonna make the project encode in the background for the entirety of the day tomorrow since I'm out), will the encoding repeat?

  • How do I playback a BD-R disc burned with FCP X?

I burned a BD-R disc with Final Cut Pro X from the "share" command.  Everything looks like it worked.  The burner/player is a Samsung SE-506AB/TSBD (a portable burner with a USB plug.)  I'm receiving an "unable to open file" from the Quicktime player app.  The directory in Finder shows the BD file as AVCHD content.  Do I need a separate app?  If so, which is it?  Thanks.

This article has useful info and a link to a player.

  • HT1479 I would like to know how to burn a dvd in such a way that each image can be skipped over by pressing the skip button.

I would like to know how to burn a dvd in such a way that each image can be skipped over by pressing the skip button? If anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated!

Here's how top get a slideshow that will let the viewer manually control the forward and backward movement of the slides with the forward and back buttons on the DVD remote.
1 - put the images you want to use in an iPhoto album.
2 - launch iDVD, select a theme and add a slideshow using the "+" button at the bottom:
3 - click on the Media button at the lower right hand corner of the window and then click on the Photos button.
4 - locate the iPhoto album containing your photos and drag it into the left hand pane:
5 - select Side Duration to Manual.
In order to get the maximum manual control of the slides you cannot have add any music to the slideshow.  If you do add music the slideshow will continue you advance unless you pause the slideshow and/or use the advance/back buttons and then pause.
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the  File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option.  This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image and launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding was good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

Once the tracks are in your library, you can right-click and use the command Get Album Artwork.  This command will attempt to match your track(s) to the item in the iTunes Store, and get the cover art.
If that command does not succeed, you will need a copy of the art in .JPG format, either by scanning your CD cover, or by getting it from the web.  Once you have the art, right-click the track, choose Get Info, go the Artwork tab and paste it in.

  • How to burn read and write files on DVD

I would like to know how to burn DVDs (image files) with the Read and Write setting. I have changed the settings in Get Info for the image files to Read and Write for Owner, Group and Others and yet when I burn the DVD and try and copy the files back onto the hard drive (to test if it works or not) it won't allow me. When I check the Get Info it says Read and Write for owner (greyed out) and Read Only for Group and Others (greyed out too).
I have also tried to change the status of the blank DVD before adding files and after adding the files (but b4 the burn) to Read and Write, this works but then during the burn process the DVD or burner changes my settings to Read Only.
I am burning with Finder and have tried with Toast 10 Titanium. What am I doing wrong, or not doing at all?! I'm going loopy with frustration!

Kiraly, I agree that the actual problem here might be something else, but as a side issue there seems to be a difference in the way permissions are handled when a file copy is made using Finder compared to when the copy is made using the cp copy in Terminal. At least in my Tiger system, Finder preserved the permission structure, though not the ownership, when it copied a file, whereas cp used the OS defaults.
    I tried the following experiment:
From my test user account "t", I created a textfile named ReadWrite.txt, and gave it Read+Write permissions for Owner, Group, and Others. I then burned it using Finder to a DVD which I named PermissionTest, and then unchecked the "Ignore Ownership" box on PermissionTest.
The original ownership and permissions were preserved on the DVD, though of course you couldn't actually write to anything there:
    xxG5-Computer:~ t$ ls -l /Volumes/PermissionTest/ReadWrite.txt
    -rw-rw-rw- 1 t t 15 Sep 13 18:25 /Volumes/PermissionTest/ReadWrite.txt
I then copied the file from the DVD to the Desktop using Finder, and the permissions were preserved!
    Finder copy:
    xxG5-Computer:~ t$ ls -l /Users/t/Desktop/ReadWrite.txt
    -rw-rw-rw- 1 t t 15 Sep 13 18:25 /Users/t/Desktop/ReadWrite.txt
I then trashed the Finder copy of ReadWrite, txt on the desktop, and made a second copy from the DVD, but this time I used the cp command from Terminal instead of using Finder. This time the permissions were not preserved, but reverted to the OS default:
    cp copy:
    xxG5-Computer:~ t$ cp /Volumes/PermissionTest/ReadWrite.txt Desktop
    xxG5-Computer:~ t$ ls -l /Users/t/Desktop/ReadWrite.txt
    -rw-r--r-- 1 t t 15 Sep 13 19:43 /Users/t/Desktop/ReadWrite.txt
I then switched to a different user account "t1", and repeated the above with the same DVD, first copying the ReadWrite.txt file to the desktop using Finder, and then using cp. The ownership of the copied file changed from t to t1 in both cases, but the permission structure again was preserved in the Finder copy but not in the cp copy:
    DVD file:
    xxG5-Computer:~ t1$ ls -l /Volumes/PermissionTest/ReadWrite.txt
    -rw-rw-rw- 1 t t 15 Sep 13 18:25 /Volumes/PermissionTest/ReadWrite.txt
    Finder copy:
    xxG5-Computer:~ t1$ ls -l /Users/t1/Desktop/ReadWrite.txt
    -rw-rw-rw- 1 t1 t1 15 Sep 13 18:25 /Users/t1/Desktop/ReadWrite.txt
    cp copy:
    xxG5-Computer:~ t1$ cp /Volumes/PermissionTest/ReadWrite.txt Desktop
    xxG5-Computer:~ t1$ ls -l /Users/t1/Desktop/ReadWrite.txt
    -rw-r--r-- 1 t1 t1 15 Sep 13 19:51 /Users/t1/Desktop/ReadWrite.txt
I got similar results when I tried copying a file with Read+Write permissions for all from a USB flash drive to the Desktop, again with the "Ignore Ownership" box unchecked.

  • How to burn a slideshow to DVD for anyone to play. I burned a DVD and can play it on my mac, but will not open in windows

  • How to burn a slideshow to a CD?

I can preview a slideshow on Adobe Bridge, wondering how to burn that slideshow to a CD?

Thank you, found a Julieanne Kost video in which she demonstrated how to create a PDF slideshow (exactly what you suggested) and what I was looking for. I would have been able to add background music if I created a "video" slideshow within Photoshop but that was a little too complicated. Once I got the PDF file, I had no problem burning it to a CD. I use a Macbook and I did have to go to "get info" and change the embedded application to open it from "Preview" (default) to "Adobe Reader" so that non-Mac users would be able to open the file. Preview would not play it as a slideshow either, was just a gallery of photos, not sure what was going on. Thank you for your response!

A Bridge-created pdf might do this or a close equivalent:  Bridge Output to Pdf with slide show files selected; in layout select 1 column 1 row; set overlays, header and footer as desired, then set playback options and save (creating the pdf).
