How to Burning TV Shows to DVD?

Is it possible to burn TV shows you bought at the ITune Store onto a DVD?

To make a backup on Data CD/DVD: yes
To play them on a DVD-player: no
From the Music Store Terms of Service, chapter 9b:
You shall be entitled to export, burn (if applicable) or copy Products solely for personal, noncommercial use. You shall not be entitled to burn Video Products.
Sorry, that's how it is.

    David,
Below is an extract from a discussion I had with others on forums who had your current dilemma. Adobe's answer is generally to use Adobe Premiere Elements to burn the DVD; if you have it installed there is a additional option to burn to DVD on that menu. However, you may have other choices.
If you have a DVD burner, want to make a PSE 3 or 4 slide show that plays on a TV DVD player, and do not have Premiere Elements:
    - create a WMV file using DVD NTSC or DVD PAL (according to your country TV standards) as the OUTPUT parameters
    - then read the doc that came with the software that supports your DVD burner (might be Nero, Sonic, Roxio) looking for a function that will create a Video DVD (note that it must specifically be creating/authoring a VIDEO DVD intended for play on TV rather than just burning a data DVD). Once you find this function, use your WMV file from PSE 4 as the input and choose the software options that give you a video DVD.
Based on my experience and conversing with others on forums, this will give you a DVD that is significantly better quality than the Elements VCD (written to a CD) and but not quite as good as a program that does a slide show direct to DVD. Quality is a subjective judgement, so I am not saying this is the answer for everyone. However, my philosphy is generally to try the software I have first before purchasing additional software.
Notes: For Sonic, I used a MyDVD limited edition that came with my burner. For Nero, I communicated with someone who did it with Nero Vision Express. I don't have any specifics for Roxio.
Notes: Creation of the WMV will almost always take a long time - depending on the number of slides and the number and type of transitions, zooms, pans. Each photo must downsized in resolution, then each individual type of motion must be applied; these photos must then become frame per second video (a significantly different format translation). All this takes time and processor power.

how to burn slide show too a dvd-r in web superdrive plugged into the usb port

I think this link will offer some good insight. I would recommend moving the library to an external HD if you are already using iPhoto on your MBP. If you do decide to move the library directly to your MBP just make sure you are using a different enough name for it that your MBP can easily locate each library independently.

  • Burning slide show on DVD.

Have P E 5.  Wish to create and display slide shows on HDTV.  Have created a show, but just learned that my version cannot burn the show to DVD.  Am I missing something?  Are there other options?  Does the latest version 10 have this feature?
Thanks in advance for your help!
    Fred

No version of PSE has this function, since Adobe wants you to buy Premiere Elements.
If you have a dvd burner you must have some kind of software you can use for this, even if it's only windows movie maker. You may also have gotten something like Roxio. Check to see what you have on your computer already. Then just output your slideshow as a wmv file and use whatever it is to create the video disc.
However, note that PSE does not create HD output.

How can I fix this problem? I have tried the apps BURN and DVD Creator for MAC. I need to finish this DVD asap and becoming more and more frustrated. Why would Apple give us iMovie and not provide us an app to burn it to a DVD and / or take away the iDVD?

To burn a DVD with iDVD from the latest version of iMovie, you have to export the movie using the Export button and select 480p as the size. Open iDVD and start a new project, then drag that exported movie file into the iDVD menu window, avoiding any drop zones you see.

If you only have PSE, then output your slideshow as a wmv file and use whatever  software you have to create the video dvd, even something like Windows DVD maker. If you also have Premiere Elements, then send the slideshow there for finishing.

  • Burning TV show to DVD

I recently purchased the TV show, Series 5 of Madmen from iTunes.  How can I burn them to a DVD to enable me to watch them on my TV via my DVD player.  I tried creating a play list as with music and burn to a DVD-R but this was not recognised by my DVD player.  Do I need special software?  Any tips help would be greatly appreciated.

the question has been answered satisfactorily.
Not really. Many of us are frustrated by the ultrahigh levels of copy protection that do little to stop crooks from copying movies but does a lot to frustrate and complicate the lives of honest people.
Movies purchased on iTunes and movies purchased on DVD often live in two separate universes. I like to use my Apple TV to purchase TV shows and the like. But when it comes to movies I always buy them on DVD.
There is a low cost method that may be available to you.  Many Macintoshes can be connected to televisions directly.  If you told us about your computer and your TV someone here might be able to explain how you can watch your shows on your larger television using the appropriate cable.

  • How to burn a slideshow to DVD for anyone to play. I burned a DVD and can play it on my mac, but will not open in windows

Need to know how to burn a DVD that can be viewed by any DVD player.  I created a DVD from a slideshow created in iPhoto.  I can open it on my computer, but it will not open or even be recognized in my home DVD player.  I asked a friend to try it on a Windows computer and he could not open it.  What's the key to creating things for friends & family that do not have Mac anything?

    Hi
    I would try:
    • Share -> down to second line Media-publisher (?)
    • I would select Large
    Then close iMovie
Open iDVD and see if I can localize the movie under Media.

There is free open source software called Burn that will burn DVDs. Here is a link.
If you wish to pay for software, there are many, including TOAST TITANIUM from Roxio. Apple's retail copy of iLife 11, and Apple's Compressor.
Of these, I would say that iDVD is known for being able to create very professional looking DVDs with intros, menus, lots of interesting templates.
Toast is much simpler and the menus and templates are more plain.
Compressor is a professional tool that does a lot more than make DVDs. Don't expect much in the way of menus or templates.
Burn, I have never tried, since I have iDVD and Toast for those ocasions when I need to burn a DVD. However, since it is free, I think it is worth a try.
Each software package is a little different, but in general, in iMovie, you can use the SHARE menu to SHARE/MOVIE in Large size. Save the movie to your desktop or someplace you can easily find it. Then drag it into the tool of your choice. You can alsouse SHARE/MEDIA BROWSER/LARGE if you have iDVD or Toast.

If you are referring to a DVD that will play via most commercial DVD players on a standard TV or monitor, then you must "author" the burn. This "authoring" creates specific types of files and places them in specific folders for the DVD player to acces. Simply copying a movie to a DVD merely makes it "visible" to the computer's DVD hardware for playback in the various media players which may be installed on your system. Even then, if you did not optimize the file to specifically play back from the DVD disc, it will probably have to be copied back to a host computer's hard drive for playback.
Most commersial DVD players are limited to Video CD (MPEG-1 VCD), Super Video CD (MPEG-2 SVCD), and DVD (MPEG-2/PCM or MPEG-2/AC3) content contained in specific menu, video, and back-up files in certain locations on the optical disc as previously mentioned. Apps like iDVD (MPEG-2/PCM) and Toast (MPEG-2/AC3) are commonly used to "author" the discs by encoding the audio/video data correctly, creating interactive menus, and burning the proper data and information to the proper files for the DVD player to use.
