Well, if you read the information under Details tab, it will tell you if it can run on iPad. Problem is generally the person will have to use a cheazy 2x feature to zoom it on the iPad to fill the display.

While I can't make guarantees, iPads seem to be in good supply now, so it's probably that you'll be able to walk into any Apple Store, Best Buy, or Walmart (or any of the other dealers that carry the iPad) and pick one up off the shelf. Of course with the holiday shopping season, supplies may run short. I don't believe that any Apple Store is taking reservations on iPad any more now, so you'll have to depend on luck.

The Smart Cover only protects the front screen. You'll get scratches on the back plus it provides no protection for a small drop.

The keyboard is easier to use than Apple's on-screen keyboard. Do a Google search using the model number to get the best price. About the same price as Apple's covers & it covers the whole iPad. Although the new iPad is slightly thicker, it should fit this case.

Yes. Apple or a certified Apple retailer. Any other source may be bogus. With the Apple SIM you don't need to decide what carrier at time of purchase. However, Apple only supports AT&T, Sprint, Verizon, and T-Mobile. Of course you can also buy it from your chosen provider if they support and sell them.
I suggest you visit Apple's online store to see what you need. It's well explained. I just bought one two days ago.

I understand you are unable to purchase items from the iTunes Store as it is requiring your old credit card information. You can try and change your payment method to none and see if it will allow you to make a purchase using your gift car. However, if there are any outstanding balances, you will be required to enter credit or debit card information before you can make purchases.
Change or remove your payment information from your iTunes Store account (Apple ID)

This should be possible, but red flags are usually raised by credit card companies when having a product purchased with a credit card shipped to another location besides the billing address for the credit card and especially to a location in another country. If your friend's credit card company allows this, I don't know why Apple wouldn't.

How to set up iPad as surprise gift

I am going to buy my mom an iPad 3 for Mother's Day. As I just started working full-time several months ago (I'm 22), this will be my first big present to anyone. I even ordered a case already, and am looking at speaker docks. I want the ipad to be perfect and fully-set up for my mom by May 13th. My mom is almost computer illeterate; she knows how to check email, and thats about it. I want to completely set it up for her: buy apps, save bookmarks, add music, photos, etc. I was planning on setting up an new email address for her, registering an apple id with this email, and buying apps with a gift card. However, my dad has an apple id that is linked to his iPhone; I realized today that they might want to end up on the same apple id. I don't want to use my dad's apple id because they share the same email address, which my mom checks pretty frequently. Is she going to be able to change apple id's and still keep all of the loaded content?
If that is not possible, what are my other options?

You really need to get the apple id straightened out before you start, or you will pay the price forever!   You have a couple of options. I assume your dad is cooperating with this project. I think you are probably right about using his apple account.
Make sure you have established the second e mail address and that to works.
Log onto apple.com, and in the upper right, log into the account. Once in the accout, click on the area where you can change you data, and add the second email address.    Apple wil verify the adress by send it an e mail, and won't do anything further until you respond to an e mail sent to that address, so watch for it.
After the address is verified, on your accout page, make that address your primary address contact from apple. That way if apple sends confirmations for apps and things, they will go to the new address, and your mom won't see them. Then set the pad up using the same aple Id as your dad. Remember, you have not changed the apple id or the password, you have only changed the e mail address for contact.   ( you can change it back after the surprise)

Ending the box, and doing the set up. It is a great way for them to learn enough to use it. Press the buttons etc. pick their own apps. You can gift her all the apps you want, and she can learn how to download them herself.
I gave a pad to mom in law, and did pretty much what you are planning, and at the end of the day, having it all set when she openied it made it harder for her to learn, rather than easier.
But you are doing a god thing, and I am sure she will enjoy the pad.

I'm planning on buying my brother an iPad for his birthday but he lives in the UK. The US iPad works out $200 cheaper than the UK version so I was thinking of sending him one from over here.
What potential problems would he face if I did that? He's not very technologically minded and don't want him stuck with problems he can't solve!

I can't figure out how to buy at the app store

There doesn't seem to be any button to press to actually buy mountain lion. I upgraded to 10.6.8 by using software upgrade on my menu. Then to get Mountain Lion I went to app store but could figure out how to actually buy it.
I am desperate to get this resolved. I have upgraded my Office for Mac and cannot format any numbers in Excel. I am hoping that once I get my OS totally upgraded I will be able to use excel again.

It's a large download - about 4.5GB - so it may take some time via a satellite connection. If the download is stalled, you should be able to just 'continue' the download. However, if it looks as if it's going to take some time, heading to the Apple Store might be your best bet.

Yeap, it's another of those "undocumented features" from the Apple cult. The same thing happened to me even though I backed up to iTunes before upgrading. I lost everything... apps, music, podcasts and ebooks.
You'll have to reinstall all your missing apps from the app store. But, don't worry. It's free. It remembers that you bought them. You can even look up past purchases to verify what you bought. (I don't know how far you can go back since I only bought my iPad last month.) The pain is that you have to load them individually.
I also had to separately reload all my music, podcasts and ebooks, which I acquired prior to buying my iPad.
It goes to show that the one area in which Apple really beats out Microsoft, is their hype.
Even so, the iPad is great.
