The warranty for the iPhone is not and has never been International.
Warranty and support are ONLY valid in the country of origin. The only exception is the EU where the entire EU is treated as one country.
If the device will be used in India, buy it in India.
An unlocked iPhone will work on any supported GSM carrier world wide. The LTE portion of a US purchased, unlocked iPhone is unlikely to work outside North America as it does not support the appropriate bands used in other countries.

Well, the 16GB unlocked iPhone 5 will reportedly cost $649+Tax here (don't know for sure as Apple has not put them on the web site yet). You cannot buy unless you have a US form of payment, with a US billing address and a US shipping address (they WILL NOT ship outside of the USA). Or, you could pay for a trip here and buy it in person. Of course, if/when LTE comes to India, it probably will not work. And if you need warranty service, you would have to return to the USA to get it as the iPhone warranty is not international.
All that to save about $100, and get a phone that if it has problems, you cannot even get warranty service on? If the $100 saving is that critical to you, it might suggest you should be shopping for a much cheaper phone in the first place.

You need to clarify where you are as Virgin Mobile are a Global Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) brand however the terms and offers differ in each country.
If you are in the USA the brand is actually franchised and operated by Sprint .
Operating on Sprint CDMA and LTE frequency bands.
The CDMA radio will be provioned to work off of the Sprint towers - This IS locked down and can't be used on any other network -for instance Verizon.
The phones GSM Sim card holder and radios should be unlocked but we won't know for sure until the handsets are available to test.
The models in question are the A1453 - 5S ad A1456- 5C- these support the most channel frequencies of any iPhone , however NOT the all important European LTE band 7 (2600mhz)
So it is highly likely that the Virgin USA model will have unlocked SIM and GSM support will work on all European 3G and most earlier 2 and 2.5G networks however may have patchy to no European LTE support.

I think you will hav no chance of getting it in store here in London, only have 3 stores at Whitecity, Regents Street, and Brent Cross, all which I have visited and they advice to order online as it will be faster and you will have details on expected shipping and delivery. Regents Street actually said I might have to wait longer than a month...this was 2 weeks ago.
I therefore ordered online, the time to ship when ordered is about 2 and half weeks and delivery is about 3 and half weeks, so 3-4 days earlier than estimated.
This is just based on what I have read on the forums and from experience of my friends, a small minority of people have had to wait full 3 weeks for it to ship and another week for delivery.
My advice put your name on the waiting list on all there stores, if you are in London for 2-3 weeks you may be lucky to get one. If you are here less than 2 weeks order online!
