  • Late 2012, 13'' Retina MacBook Pro, Display bug

Hello, I am having a late 2012, 13'' Retina MacBook Pro(i7, 8Gb). Last year I upgraded to Mavericks. Immediately after upgrading I notice that my MacBook is bit slow. I always keep my OS X up-to-date. Last month I noticed something really strange.
    1. Whenever I manually put my MacBook to sleep by clicking sleep command under the apple logo (top left hand corner of the screen) then the way the display turns off is not normal. I mean its not smooth as it was earlier. I have compared this with the new hardwares (MacBook Pro's) in the apple store.
    2. After I put my notebook to sleep, when I try to wake it up within 5-10/15 mins, the screen flashes very quickly before entering password.
These issues are bugging me a lot. I also have apple care. I called senior adviser and described the issue. I got scared when he mentioned that there might be some issue with my logic board/graphic card.
I also performed Apple Hardware Test by myself and also booked an appointment with the Apple Genius Bar guys but everything came up normal.
Is there any particular test I need to mention to the Genius bar guys to test with there unique hardware checking tool?
Note: I did clean install of OS X couple of times, also did SMC reset & PRAM reset.
Recently I updated with latest OS X update 10.9.4 hoping that this issue will resolve but no luck.
I am wondering whether any of you guys have experienced similar issue or I am the only one. Is it something I should worry about because I still have apple care and if it requires major hardware change then I can easy get it done without paying any $$$$. I know logic boards are pretty expensive.
    Thank you!

The screen glitches that have been most likely when upgrading to 10.9.3 are quick, brief flashes of yellow, pink, etc., light on screens immediately before login. It doesn't sound as if you're having that problem.
If QuickTime won't record the glitches, then it's unlikely to be a problem with your GPU - most likely a screen glitch (if that) or a OS X glitch, nothing related to Flash Player.
However, if I were you, I would take the machine into your local Apple Store and have the techs run some tests. They may want to install OS X anew, so I would make certain that you have a backup before taking your machine into the techs.
    Good luck,
    Clinton

  • Will InDesign/Illustrator be updated for Retina Macbook Pro Display?

Will the Adobe Creative Suite programs be updated for the MacBook Pro Retina Displays? If so, when?
I viewed text in InDesign 5.5 and Illustrator on Macbook Pro with Retina at an Apple store (with Display Performance set on High Resolution Display in InDesign) - the type looks all pixelated at edges. Much smoother on Antiglare display. I and deciding between purchase of a Macbook Pro 15-inch Hi-Res Antiglare screen and the Retina display screen. It would help in my decision if Adobe would give some indication, if or when there may be updates in Illustrator and InDesign for better type on the Retina display.

The only program we’ve heard about is Photoshop and that’s CS6.
The chances of older versions being updated are pretty much zero.

  • Retina MacBook Pro + Cinema Display = Only 25% of images visible when opened

Every single time I open an image, I can only see 25% of it. I have to hit Cmd+, Cmd- to zoom in & out every single time. It's ridiculous. I think the problem might have something to do with the fact that the retina display has twice the pixel density. This is just a theory, but I'd bet money that it's the culprit. I just realized that the problem doesn't exist when I don't have my external monitor plugged in.
Here's what I see on the external 27" monitor:
Then after hitting Cmd+, Cmd-, this is what I see (this web form has scaled this image down, but you get the gist):
Can someone please tell me how to avoid this maddening annoyance? I've contacted Adobe Tech Support, and they can't help me with this problem. They have given up; they simply ignore my emails at this point.
I'm using the latest version of Photoshop CC on a fairly new 15" retina MacBook Pro with a 27" non-Thunderbolt Apple Cinema Display.
    Thanks,
    Matt

Ah, it's nice to have a friendly and knowledgeable person replying to my question for a change.
Here are my display settings from Mac systems prefs:
The problem exists regardless of the Application Frame setting or the zoom tool's Resize Windows to Fit setting. I'm using windows, not tabs. Here's another example of what I see when I open an image:
And here's what I see after hitting Cmd+ followed by Cmd-
It's really just an incredibly annoying inconvenience.
    Thanks for your help!

  • How do I perform a "Suite Product Activation" so that Acrobat will start working on my new Retina MacBook Pro?

How do I perform a "Suite Product Activation" so that Acrobat will start working on my new Retina MacBook Pro?
Like others, I have recently upgraded my MacBook Pro to the next generation and migrated all my information from old to new. Everything works seamlessly EXCEPT Acrobat. Photoshop, Indesign, Bridge and Lightroom all seem functional. Acrobat hangs with an error message "Suite Product Activation Needed. Acrobat was installed as part of a suite. To enable Acrobat, please start another element of the suite (such as Photoshop)." Needless to say, starting another element of the suite has NO impact on Acrobat.
This has to be a common problem. Now that Apple has made it really easy to migrate information from old to new machines, it has to come up all the time. What surprises me greatly is that I can't find any coherent answer in these forums.
So how do I get Acrobat running again?

    Hi Anubha,
I do not understand what you said below.
I am running Adobe Acrobat Pro Version 9.5.5. I do not remember whether it came with Photoshop or InDesign.
When I open Photoshop, it opens without my having to follow any instructions to activate the software. As a matter of fact, I cannot find my Photoshop serial number anywhere in the Photoshop program itself. I do know it from my profile at Adobe.com. Are you suggesting I deactivate Photoshop on the new computer and then reactivate it using my serial number? Will it reactivate?
    When you say
"/Library/Application Support/Adobe" at the root level of the startup disk (not the Library folder inside a user's Home folder)
what do you mean? I do not have a startup disk. I have the original installation disk but that version of Photoshop has been updated a few times.
After staring at your instructions for a while, I realized that you might be talking about the Library/Application Support folders resident on my Macintosh HD, although why you called it a startup disk is unclear to me. IAC, I went into those folders and duly moved the three folders into a new folder I called “Acrob1” and restarted Adobe Acrobat 9 and got the following error message: “AMT Subsystem Failure  The licensing subsystem has failed catastrophically. You must reinstall of call customer support.” with a small (6).
By undoing my actions I am back to the staus quo ante.
    Now what?
    Regards, Robert

Make sure both computers are turned on and awake.
Connect a male-to-male Mini DisplayPort or ThunderBolt cable to each computer.
Press Command-F2 on the keyboard of the iMac being used as a display to enable TDM.
Note: In Keyboard System Preferences, if the checkbox is enabled for "Use all F1, F2, etc. keys as standard functions keys," the key combination changes to Command-Fn-F2.

  • I am new to Apple (Retina MacBook Pro), how can I maximize my experience?

Hello, I recently joined the Apple world by purchasing a 13" Retina MacBook Pro. So far, I couldn't be happier. I changed platforms from Google because the devices I have don't allow for local content playback and apps are buggy and slow to respond. (I also hate Windows 8 with a passion). I want to get the most out of my Mac and the Apple ecosystem so I would like to get some feedback from other users about how best to accomplish the following:
Seamless media syncing and playback on TV, phone, and computer
Planning to get an iPhone 6 and upgrade to Yosemite so personal data, photos, music, and video is accounted for
I have used Google Chromecast and have Google Play's music client, but uploading content to that environment is another step
I already have a modem w/ wireless and router built in courtesy of my internet provider, what would be the benefit, if any, to getting an AirPort Express, Extreme, etc?Would like the ability to back up my data - external hard drive is adequate, but wireless backup is tempting
I do writing and programming and I am already getting familiar with iBooks, iUniversity, and XCode - any other suggestions?
I am happy to be a part of the Apple world! Now I want to see what it can do! The bottom line is I want seamless access to all of my content across the devices I have.

I have a MacBook.  I purchased things apps like Pages, Numbers. etc in the App store.  Im' just wondering how to put them on the new MacBook Pro without having to purchase them again.  Will the Migration Assistant do this?

  • Need advice for external display for my retina Macbook Pro.

I got my 15-inch retina Macbook Pro (Mid 2014) two months ago. It’s a fantastic machine but I am having some regrets concerning screen size. I want to be able to enjoy movies on my computer but 15-inch is just too small. So I am considering purchasing an external display for my Macbook Pro. I am thinking about a 25’’+ monitor (or TV) which can offer me closest experience to the retina one on my Macbook. I don’t want 4K monitors though, as most of the contents I consume are full HD 1080P. But I do care about PPI a lot (for browsing).
What kind of display can help me obtain this similar experience I get on my Mac? Any recommendations? Thanks.

I have the 15" MacBook Pro, Retina, Mid 2012 also, same exact model.  Kind of the same thing is happening with me.  I will intermitentyl get a flickering on the bottom 1/3 of the screen, all the way across.  It flickers/flashes on and off on the bottom half or third of the screen, when I am typing or when I am perfectly stil, doen't really matterl.  Only happens for a split second, but can do it multiple times, or sometimes not at all.  I can go tens of minutes without i hapenning, but I can also go tens of seconds with it happening multiple times.
It never goes black or grey or "out" at all, just randomly flickers throughout the day.
I do get burned-in images all the time, but they disappear within seconds.  But this flickering is definitely worrysome.  I did get the the Apple Care, so I am not too worried as Apple is usually good about this kind of thing, but I do have a similar problem to you and wanted to document this.  I didnt find many other people oiut there with this problem, so let me know what has gone on since your post on the New Year.  Any solution?  Did you call Apple?
    Thanks webrian.

  • How can I do a clean installation of Mavericks 10.9.1 on Late 2013 Retina Macbook Pro

Hi I need some help -
I bought a late 2013 15' Retina Macbook Pro and it was shipped with 10.9.0 build number 13A3017.
Now 10.9.1 is out, and I wanted to download the full installation image and burn it to thumb drive and do a full clean re-installation.
But I just found Mac App Store doesn't allow me to download the full 5.29GB installation image from https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/os-x...ks/id675248567, and my current 10.9.0 can only be _upgraded_ to 10.9.1 with the 395MB incremental update package from http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1712, this upgrade package is described as "It includes all updates from OS X Mavericks 10.9.1 plus system specific enhancements to improve the stability and compatibility of your Mac."
So maybe the full 5.29GB 10.9.1 which is available on Mac App Store is not compatible with the 2013 15' Late Retina Macbook Pro?
I just downloaded the upgrade package from Mac App Store and now I'm running 10.9.1 build number 13B3116 fine.
So my questions here: I really would like to do a clean full re-installation of 10.9.1. Where can I get the full installation image which is compatible with 2013 15' Late Retina Macbook Pro?

There is a way to get yourself a fully functional install file for a Late 2013 model.
    1. Format a USB stick
    2. Reboot the Mac, and hold down CMD-R to get into recovery mode
    3. Start a new installation and choose the USB stick as a target. You should be able to choose your normal hard drive as a target, too, because as long as the installer package is downloaded, no data should be erased, but when you decide to use a USB stick, you're on the safe side.
    4. The Mac will be downloading the install package. This takes a while, the time remaining shown is not correct. If you need to have an idea how long it will take you, choose the log from the help menu during download, it will show you how many chunks are already downloaded (it was 504 chunks total for me).
    5. When the download is ready, the Mac reboots automatically, pull the USB stick when it does. If you're not before your computer when this happens, don't worry, when you come back, you will be in the setup program. Just switch your machine off by pressing the power switch for more than 10 seconds, and then pull the stick.
    6. On the stick you will find the "OS X Install ESD.dmg". Copy that file to your Mac (it's the only file you'll need from the stick. After that, you can reformat the stick and use it for the next step).
    7. You can use this file to finally create a bootable USB stick if you follow the instructions that you can find anywhere on the net or in this forum.

  • How to install Photoshop CS3 disc on a Retina MacBook Pro?

Just bought a new Retina Macbook pro and trying to install CS3... the program from my old Macbook would not work when moved to the new one. I have the original disc but this will not work on new Macbooks without a drive.
    Anyone any ideas?

Feel free to contact support, but they'll only give you the finger, metaphorically. There is no support for old versions beyond sorting out your activation. And you get what was to be expected. All Adobe apps must be properly installed. Copying the installer files to a USB stick will work just fine. If for soem reason that's not possible, download using this method:
Direct Download Links for Adobe Software
You'll still run into trouble, though. CS3 was never tested on contemporary versions of OSX nor will it deal properly with Retina displays. As a minor, you will have to enable the half-res option in your display prefs during install and possibly usage of the program...

  • I installed CS6 on my new retina MacBook pro laptops. InDesign and Acrobat display document pixilated. I ran the updates and it fixed Illustrator and Photosho, but not InDesign and Acrobat. What can I do to make them display in high resolution? HELP!

I installed CS6 on my new retina MacBook pro laptops. InDesign and Acrobat display document pixilated. I ran the updates and it fixed Illustrator and Photosho, but not InDesign and Acrobat. What can I do to make them display in high resolution? HELP!

InDesign CS6 is not optimized for retina displays. You’ll need to move to Creative Cloud for retina compatibility.

  • Retina Macbook Pro, Photoshop CS6, canvas turns black on external display

I have a problem. The entire canvas turns black and cant be edited when I drag the app from the main display (hi-dpi retina Macbook Pro) to the external (normal dpi) display.
I have noticed that I can get around this by opening some psd-files and then deleting all their layers. But hey, I should be able to create a new document for editing on my external display right.
When I drag Photoshop back to the retina display, it turns white again, and is editable.

I am also experiencing this problem. Has anyone solved it yet?
    Thanks!
