  • HT4571 How do I opt out of automatic monthly deductions on Verizon data plan

What isn't clear is how do I opt out of automatic monthly deductions by Verizon after the first month of the plan? I travel twice a year and only need cellular service during those times.

I've been searching Apple's forums for an answer to the exact same question (how to get month-to-month data on a Verizon iPad), and I have found it extremely frustrating to read (time and time again) the answer "Ask Verizon". I have talked with Verizon multiple times and NOT A SINGLE VERIZON REPRESENTATIVE was able to tell me the "loophole" below.
From the Verizon Community Forums (I copied and pasted the italic text below from the linked posting):
Start with a SIM card in the iPad, activate the service when you want to use it.
For example, add the $20 for 1GB for a month plan to the iPad. (All plans auto-renew.)
However, you don't have to "burn" the SIM card every time you cancel... when you sign up to add the data, you can go back in and hit the cancel service button (at any time before it auto renews).
There are two options to cancel the service:
    1) Cancel Now --> This burns the SIM and deletes the account (so you get no more data). You need a new SIM next time.
    2) Cancel Later --> This SAVES the SIM card, so you can re-activate it at a later point. It also allows you to finish using up the data you already purchased, and cancels the auto-pay. Next time, you can just go back in, and add some new data plan (and 'Cancel Later' again so it doesn't auto-renew).
On the same linked-to forum page, someone replied with this:
And I have been doing this precisely. I don't like the auto-pay so after I pay for the data service I always hit cancel later button on my device and just manually charge it once a month when I need it. Bear in mind that if you do the Cancel later, that you have within 5 month to reactivate it again otherwise it will completely deactivate and you will have to get a new sim card. So make sure you re-activate before 5 month is up.

  • How do I opt-out of recieving email receipts for free items from the store?

    Hello,
Currently, when I download free apps from the store I will eventually receive weekly receipts from e-mail. While useful on purchased items, I treat this as spam for free items.
How do I opt-out of this for free items?

I'm not aware of any setting to prevent the Apple's receipt to be sent.
If you bought a mix of purchase item and free item, the will appears on the same receipt. Instead of considering them as spam, you can consider them as "a way to recall which apps you dowloaded in case something wrong happen".
Personally, I have created a folder called "receipts" and simply send these mails to this folder.

  • How can I opt out on the default setting for a split window in Firefox 3.6.12 ?

Since I upgraded to Firefox 3.6.12, the page opens up with two vertically divided panes. Each pane displays a different bookmark. The left pane is generally only about an inch wide and can only be expanded to about 3 inches wide. In that mode, it is pretty much useless and only provides a distraction. How can I opt out on what appears to be the default setting for a split window with two vertical panes.
At this point, I am discontinuing using Firefox in favor of Safari because of this change in the default window.

Opening in the side bar is the default for bookmarks that are created via a link or button on a website.
You can check the Properties of a bookmark via the right-click context menu in the side bar (Ctrl+B; Cmd+B on Mac).
In the Bookmarks Manager (Bookmarks > Organize Bookmarks) you can click the More button in the Details pane at the bottom right.
Make sure that "Load this bookmark in the side bar" is not selected.

  • Six Strikes? How do I opt-out of this nonsense?

I've heard that there's some new anti-piracy nonsense going on, how do I opt out of this to ensure my connection is not affected by this?

As a start, if your Wi-Fi is encrypted with WEP Security (It is by default if you have any router that is not an ActionTec MI424WR GEN3 router, such as the Rev. G or I) change it to WPA2 security. WEP is very easily broken into and can be a prime target for those wanting to pirate if you have neighbors that like to pirate.
In addition, ensure your computers are not running Peer to Peer software "Torrent Clients" such as Kazaa, Limewire (now defunct), Bearshare, uTorrent, BitTorrent, Deluge, Bitcomet, etc; or that the usage of them is not being used at sites that distribute content that must be paid for normally, for free. I won't name sites but this is more or less an education issue for anyone who uses the computer at home. Torrents are great ways to get data if used for the right purpose.
If you do want to reduce the chance of piracy on your network, you could consider using OpenDNS as well. While it won't stop determined pirates, it will at least make folks think twice before trying to get to a site that involves piracy. As long as you make efforts to ensure your network is locked down and you've taken efforts to ensure that there isn't anyone doing anything bad on your Internet to your knowledge, then the anti-piracy folks don't have a case on you and can't have a case on you.
As for getting out of the Six Strikes plan, you can thank your nearest media company (CBS, NBC, Viacom, Disney, Time Warner, RIAA, MPAA, etc) for causing the worry because they haven't adapted to the times. There is no opt out. ISPs don't don't cave to it will be sued to oblivion or customer info will be handed out.

  • How can I opt out of Safari on Apple Update?!

I personally hate Safari and don’t want it on my machine but I want to keep Apple update for ITunes and Quicktime. How can I opt out of Safari updates for good!?
I don’t understand why Apple did this… its very annoying to keep getting this popping up on my computers!
    -Aaron

+I should have said I know how to opt out of a single update+
Okay, it sounds like you know about the "Tools > Ignore Selected Updates" trick in ASU.
At this stage, perhaps the thing to do is to make an enhancement request (for the ability to permanently ignore types of update in ASU) direct to Apple using the product feedback forms:
    Product Feedback
Since there's no form for ASU itself, probably the best form to use would be the iTunes product feedback form, given that ASU comes as part of the iTunes installer bundle.
(Unfortunately, that's not likely to be a short term solution for you ... but it might produce some results in the medium-term, with any luck.)

  • How can I opt out of iCloud if I accidentally opted in when I upgraded ios8?

    I recently upgraded my iPhone 5 to IOS8 (which was a nightmare but that's another story).  During startup on my phone when it asked me if I wanted to sign up for iCloud I clicked on Not Now and then Continue.  I now realize I should have clicked on Cancel.  I DO NOT want to use Apple iCloud but can't find a way to get rid of it or opt out.  HELP!  This whole IOS8 experience has been a nightmare and has really left a bad taste in my mouth about Apple.  I have never before even considered another smart phone but I am starting to...;

I'm sorry, but I do not understand your problem with iCloud. You need iCloud to have Find My iPhone, but it does not have to be used for anything else. I have it on all of my devices, but it is just so Find My iPhone is activated to locate and lock the phones in case of loss or theft. Please explain a little better the problem and what the problem is about opting out, since you say you did not sign up for it.

  • How can I opt out of marketing texts from EE?

I receive marketing SMS messages from EE on a fairly frequent basis. They never have an option to reply "STOP" as there is with other marketing texts. I've browsed the My Account section on EE  and can't see any options there to opt out either. How can I tell EE that I no longer want to receive these texts?

    Hi
Unfortunately you cant stop them by replying STOP.
As XRaySpeX mentioned you would need to give us a call and advise customer service you would like to change your Contact Consent.
    Hope this helps!
    Thanks.

  • How do I opt out of receiving email to a question I asked almost a year ago?

I asked a question almost a year ago and am still receiving email answers to any question that is similar to this. I receive anywhere from 100 to 200+ answers per day. I have sent this to my spam folder but to no avail. Anyway to opt out of this?

If you are receiving 100 to 200 messages a day they are not coming from a single thread, especially one that is that old.
Most likely you are receiving emails from one or more communities. Follow all the steps listed here  Stopping emails from ASC
Remember the emails you are getting will not be stopped by turning off the email notification preferences, those only affect future email. To stop current email you have to turn off the notifications themselves.

  • How do i opt out of an update on an app

We have an iPad2 and at times we get notification of app updates we prefer not to download. Is there a way to opt out of and app update?

Thanks for the responce. I understand that you can just ignore, I was hoping there was a way to set it aside and make the update flag go away. Perhaps later. Thanks again.

  • How do I opt out of my 10euro unlimited calls offer?

I was on the unlimited calls offer for a while not but I am going on holidays therefore I want to keep my normal credit, when I topped up today I realised that I got the 10euro offer automatically, how do I get rid of it?

    Hi there weronika367
That is a plan that you need to fully delete so that you just keep your credit.
I can delete that for you from here but then you'll lose the amount of days you have left. Best to do is to call Customer Care maybe a day before you leave so they can cancel it off completely.

  • How can I clear out all smart tags?

I just upgraded from Photoshop Elements 6 to Elements 10.  In the Elements 6 release you can do a FIND on all untagged items, so I can easily find all pictures that I have not yet gotten around to tagging.
On Elements 10 I find that the software has automatically added a "Smart Tag" tag to ALL of my pictures, making the FIND UNTAGGED useless.  I assumed this happened when I converted my catalog.  I have now gone back and disabled the Smart Tag feature (now that I know about it) so that new pictures will NOT get Smart Tegged.  However, my database of tens of thousands of pictures has been contaminated by Smart Tags.
Is there anyway to get all the Smart Tags cleared out of the database so I can find the pictures that I have not yet manually tagged?
Alternately, is there a way to find pictures that have a Smart Tag but no manual tag?

Excellent!  Glad you found a solution.

However, it appears to me that as soon as one enables the Smart Tag feature the "Find untagged items" feature becomes almost meaningless.
Absolutely right.  Although Smart Tags are automatically generated, as far as the database is concerned, for the images they are tags just like any other tags.

This time, even if it's not exactly a bug, it is a disastrous default setting.
All autoanalyzer functions should be disabled by default, and only enabled knowingly.
The other lesson is that the Find menu should be able to search for files without a tag while ignoring the 'smart' tags.
The fact that the option to 'remove tags from selected items' cannot be used when you have to many tags (only one page display of tags, without a way to scroll down to next screen) is a bug in my opinion.
