How to capture a dv shot on an NTSC camcorder,  now played thru a PAL cam?

I borrowed a dv tape shot by someone else on their camcorder and am trying to capture the content in iMovie 6 by playing it through my videocam. Specifically, the tape was shot on a new Sony dv camcorder in NTSC format, but now running thru my older Sony dv handycam that I purchased in Europe and which is a PAL machine.
When I attempt to capture in iMovie 6 just a few frames are captured and then everything stops. I've set the menu on my camera to output in NTSC format but no luck.
I know it's not an iMovie problem because tapes I've shot on my own PAL camcorder are captured perfectly.
Any suggestions for a workaround?
Many thanks,
Roger

Sorry, ...... borrow a NTSC cam.
Your cam is a PAL. Although, it has a NTSC output feature, in its guts it still remains a PAL cam. So, if you stick a NTSC filmed tape in it, it will play in black & white. No color, because it cannot read NTSC color coding. There is no workaround this. Your cam can export to NTSC, but cannot read from NTSC as almost none of PAL cams can. Except of universals, those have PAL/NTSC in/out. Expensive and uncommon.
I had the same problem while I was in Europe.
Borrow a different cam. All I can tell you.

  • Capturing DVD video shot with a DVD Camcorder

    I have a Panasonic DVD camcorder. It records on mini DVD's.
    With FCE, how do I capture what I've shot. The camera has a USB output but not a fire wire.
    Can I go directly from my digital camcorder to the capture tool? Or can I use the internal DVD player in my MacBook?
    MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    this is the usual reply in the iMovie section of this board, when it comes to converting DVDs into 'dv' (=for editing in iM/FCE):
    DVDs are in a socalled delivery format (mpeg2), which isn't meant and made for any processing as editing... or, as honorable forum member QuicktimeKirk stated: I use the analogy of the old Polaroid "instant" cameras. Push the button, wait for the print to develop and show it off. ..
    for using the iLife apps (= and FCE...) , you have to convert'em first, in recommended order, choose one of the following tools/workarounds:
    * DVDxDV (free trial, 25$, Pro: 90$)
    * Apple mpeg2 plugin (19$) + Streamclip (free)
    * VisualHub (23.32$)
    * Cinematize >60$
    * Mpeg2Works >25$ + Apple plug-in
    * Toast 6/7/8 allows converting to dv/insert dvd, hit apple-k
    * connect a miniDV Camcorder with analogue input to a DVD-player and transfer disk to tape/use as converter
    none of these apps override copyprotection mechanisms as on commercial dvds...

    Command-Shift-3 and 4 works just fine on several Macs that I have here.
    Try restarting your Mac....or post in the specific support area for your Mac model....for more advice.

    How do you make screen shots with Mac OS 10.6?

    Press the Shift, Command, and 3 keys to capture the whole screen.
    Press the Shift, Command, and 4 keys to capture a draggable part of the screen, or follow it with the spacebar to capture a window.
    Open the PNG on the desktop. Alternatively, combine either of the above with the Control key to put the screenshot onto the clipboard instead of the desktop.

  • How to capture error message from standard function module

    Dear friends
    when i  execute standard function module in finance , i am getting error message , pls check the below screen shot,
    how to capture the below error message so that i have display in my webdynpro component
    Thanks
    Vijaya

    Hello Vijaya,
    Incase of BAPI's they have a return table parameter T_RETURN. Just read that return table to get the error message.
    Incase of normal function modules, there will be exceptions raised for the message used inside the function module. Just read the sy-subrc after the FM and based on the sy-subrc value find the respective exception raised.
    May be you can try like this, whenever the message is raised it will be stored in the system variable.
    CALL FM.
    check for the system variables.
    sy-msgid = Message ID of the latest message raised.
    sy-msgno = message number of the latest message raised.
    sy-msgty = message type of the latest message raised.
    sy-msgv1 = variable1 of the latest message raised.
    sy-msgv2 = variable2 of the latest message raised.
    sy-msgv3 = variable3 of the latest message raised.
    sy-msgv4 = variable4 of the latest message raised.

  • How to Capture 24p HD

    What setting and how can i capture and edit 24p HD in Final Cut Pro?

    Dear Shane
    Don't get mad at me. The reason I was doubtful of what the JVC people told me is because three days ago they assured me that Final Cut Studio 5.1 supports hd footage shot in 24p with my camera (JVC GY HD100U for those who are reading just now) and today they apologized, saying that it is not so.
    Regarding the rest of the info you are giving me, I thank you, and appreciate it.
    It is comforting to know that the passage from hd 720 24p to hd hd 720 60 p will not be noticeable.
    For me, what is now scary is that I have to buy this deck (about 3 grand), the Kona card (about 1,6 grand) and how the heck am I also going to get a more powerful computer to do the capturing/editing work?
    Have you heard of a software called hdv.xdv? A friend told me to check it out to capture my footage (I cannot do it yet, because I am waiting to get my JVC back from LA where I sent it for free-upgrading..)
    I hope our exchange adds to the wealth of info and knowledge on how to handle hd footage shot with the JVC GY HD100 camera (a very uncomfortable place to be right now...!).
    Best
