How to capture frames in Premier Pro to edit in Photoshop with correct aspect ratio.

I am using Premier Pro and Photoshop CS5 in Creative Studio CS5.  I have read and understand several help articles on square and rectangular pixels used for various video aspect ratios.  I am using the camera button on the bottom right of the Program monitor to captue a frame and save as a jpg file.  When I open the jpg file in Photoshop to edit for a DVD disc cover using the Elliptical Marquee Tool with a fixed ratio of 1 to 1, the result is not the circular image I need but wider.  This must be an aspect ratio conversion that I am missing.  I have seen conversions that correct this by lengthening the height but the image is also lengthened and thus results in a distiortion.
How do I correctly deal with this aspect ration conversion between Premier Pro and Photoshop without distortion?

This is most likely a PAR (Pixel Aspect Ratio) issue. With SD (Standard Definition) Video, you can have Standard 4:3 w/ PAR = 0.9, Widescreen 16:9 w/ PAR = 1.2, or a non-standard 4:3 w/ PAR = 1.0 (rounded PAR's for NTSC).
In Ps, you have the ability to adjust the PAR, under the Image menu from the Toolbar. For use on a DVD, you would choose a PAR of 0.9 if you have Standard 4:3, or 1.2 for Widescreen 16:9.
With the PAR adjustment, to match your Video footage, you should then be able to get what you want, without the distortion. Also, note that one can change how the PAR displays in Ps. By default, it will be Square Pixels, or PAR = 1.0, and you should get an info message that the display is not showing the exact PAR. This can also be changed in Ps.
For more discussion on PAR, see this article: http://forums.adobe.com/message/3456609#3456609

  • Exporting current frame with correct aspect ratio

    Hi and thanks for viewing my question. I've created a video in Motion 3 using the preset HDV1080i60 which is the preset for the video I'm using in Final Cut. It's a video of images, text elements and a background video that I created from scratch not a video recorded with an hd cam. I export the video and import to Final Cut and everything is great including the correct aspect ratio. When I export current frame from Motion no matter what setting I use it changes the aspect ratio so it isn't in widescreen format anymore. Any suggestions how to export a frame to maintain the widescreen format like it does when I export as a video? Thanks for the help.

    Because Motion is exporting with square pixels...
    If you have photoshop, you can do the following:
    Now make a new image, go to the HDTV 1920x1080 preset, but change the width to 1728 hit OK... Copy and paste your original image from Motion and scale horizontally to fit (helps if snapping is turned on).
    +How I arrived to this conclusion...+
    I opened the exported still in photoshop, changed the pixel aspect ratio to d1/ntsc widescreen. Made a new image with the HDTV setting, copied and pasted the image into the new ps file, command clicked the layer (which selects the pasted image), went to edit crop. Then I checked the image size and it gave me 1728x1080...

  • Capturing with correct aspect ratio

    Hi
    I'm just trying to capture mini-DV tapes using FCP for the first time. The Mini-DV tapes are DV PAL and I put them in a camcorder which is connected to the Mac with a FireWire cable.
    In FCP I have my Log and Capture window open.
    The mini-DVs have been recorded with 16:9 aspect ratio. In my Caputure Settings I can have DV PAL 48 kHz Anamorphic which gives me 16:9 aspect ratio but with letter box to 4:3 which I don't want. Alternatively I can have DV PAL 48 kHz which gives me the video stretched vertically to 4:3 aspect ratio.
    I can't see how to get straight forward 16:9 aspect ratio?
    Thank you for any help you can give.

    Hmmm, sounds like you have found the many anamorphic anomalies in FCP.
    The log and capture window shows the tape as line black, but rest assured if you have anamorphic set it will capture anamorphic.
    Oh, and when you are actually capturing, the preview looks stretched, but again rest assured it is right.
    Oh yeah, when you drag clips, or edit transitions it looks stretched but rest assured.... well you get the idea.
    Check your clips once they are in, and they should be fine.
    Make sure your timeline is 16:9 anamorphic (so no black lines top and bottom in the Canvas).
    Every so often the footage aspect looks wrong, the FCP interface is a little buggy (or maybe it is a feature?), but it works in the end.

    How to capture show layer and hide layer event in photoshop through a plugin???for mac

    Use the Listener plug-in found in the SDK to see how you can monitor the show/hide layer event. You can also use the Getter plug-in to show what information you can find out about the current state of Photoshop.

  • How do I connect my MacBook Pro to an LCD TV (with HDMI and S-Video ports)?

    How do I connect my MacBook Pro to an LCD TV (with HDMI and S-Video ports)?  I assume I would need to use the DVI to Video adapter that came with my computer to connect to my LCD tv.  I'm just not sure which port I should use on the TV.  The HDMI port is being used for digital cable.
    Also, does anyone know if this can be done wirelessly?

    For a 2010+ MBP you can connect with a Displayport to HDMI, which will include Audio.
    With older MBP you will need a displayport to HDMI, if you want audio to the actually TV, then you will need to get a cable with either digital out from MBP to the HDMI, or USB audio mixed into the HDMI

  • Adobe Premier Pro CS6 editing system and mov files

    We have just installed a new Adobe Premier Pro CS6 editing system with a HP 820Z (running windows 7) 18 core multi drive system.  Our production company has used many mov. files from Ponds.  We were a FCP 7.0 studio (still have the system) but the mov files won't import to our new CS6 System...  Not trying to import from the mac...have them stored on another PC.  We depend on this stock footage for production. Do I need to download a converter?  I just had to produce two spots with a still background because I could not get any of our stock mov files to work...
    Thanks much for any help!

    PP does support direct import of Quicktime files that can be played back on the system.
    What is the correct error message after import?
    Can you playback the files with the Quicktime Player?
    For some codecs like DNXHD you have to install the quicktime codec first...

    There will be a set of Landscapes that that have a narrower aspect ratio the 1960:1103 that would also need the top and bottom cropped like all Portraits would could be.  You need to realize that center cropping Landscape image that have aspect ratios near 1960:1103 will usually produce acceptable compositions.  However Cropping wide panoramas and portraits will only produce acceptable landscape  1960:1103 composition occasionally.
    Here you will see what happens when image have aspect ratio the do not fit the desired aspect ratio.  Where Landscape  are forced to portrait and portrait forced to Landscape.  Here are two Collage I populated with a mixture of image  with different  aspect ratios.   One collage has all 3:2 Landscape places and the other 2:3 Portrait places.
    I create a 1 image 1960x1103 collage 72dpi and create those too. Note the landscape boy foot is cropped off 3:2 is narrow compared to 1960:1103

  • How do i transform a layer with maintain aspect ratio through scripting in Photoshop?

    Hi,
         How do i transform a layer with maintain aspect ratio through scripting in Photoshop? I am expecting your reply.
    thanks,
    Rajiv.s

    I don't think your talking apples to apples.  First I do not know of any Maintain Aspect Ratio icon in Photoshop. The only icon I think associated with transform is the anchor point icon in the option bar for transform. I think you may referring to the constrain check box in the image size dialog which you can check when resample is checked. Image size effect all layers in the document and the documents canvas size. The document canvas size will be changed to the values in the images size dialog and all layers will be transformed by percentage the canvas was changes while maintaining the layers position over the canvas and the layers I think may be cropped so only pixels over the canvas remain.
    I do not know if you know that layers can be any size and have aspect ratios different then the documents canvas.
    In your case it sounds like your describing a template that has a canvas size that is 2000px wide be 3000px high a 2:3 portrait aspect ratio.  Your image file has a landscape aspect. If you place that image into your template place would by default transform the image so the image would fit within the 2000px by 3000px canvas size there would be a white border top and bottom.  You could transform that smart object layer to it actual pixels size activeDocument.activeLayer.resize(100,100, AnchorPosition.MIDDLECENTER); then calculate the size you want to transform its height to. By retrieving the canvas size and the layers boundaries. Divide the canvas height pixel size by the layers pixel height size should give you the percentage you need to use. Make sure you set the ruler units to pixels so your working with pixel values for the canvas and layer size values. The resulting layer will be larger then canvas size keeping the anchor point centered will result in the canvas size masking off both sides.  In effect cropping you landscape to a portrait.  Note cropping a image from one orientation to the other changes the composition drastically.
    If your trying to make a composit like collage you may want to look at my Photoshop Collage Toolkit it will fit images to fill a 2000px by 3000px area http://www.mouseprints.net/old/dpr/PhotoCollageToolkit.html
    You could also do centered 2:3 crop that is resized to a 3000px

  • I've Got The HDV Capture BLUES From Premier Pro CS6

    I am attempting to capture HDV footage from my Sony Z1U camera in Premier Pro CS6.  When I do so, the file type saved in my designated location is an MP3 file, which I know is not correct.  The captured footage never gets into the program, it just remains on the disk as an MP3 file type.  Then when I try to Import that file into Premier Pro from the disk, I get an error message saying "There Was An Error Decompressing Audio or Video"  Does anybody know why a captured HDV file would wind up on the disk with an MP3 type name?
    Thx.

    You scared me a bit. I upgraded from Premiere Pro CS3 to Premiere Pro CS6 and I haven't had a need to capture anything yet. So, while I do like using HDVSplit, I thought I would try capturing from my Sony HDR-FX1 just to see what happens.
    I turned off the PC, got out the camera, connected the Firewire cable (I blew the firewire port on this camera once. I will NOT do it again.)
    I started a new project. Now, the first thing I noticed was that the default is to capture DV. So I changed that to HDV.  See the image below:
    After that, it was a simple matter to capture the HDV. I dropped it on the "New Item" button to create a new sequence with the exact right properties. Then I trimmed it a little on each end. It was so cool that there was no line above the clip, meaning that no rendering was required. It never used to be so easy. I then used the Vimeo 1080 60p preset and uploaded it to Vimeo. No video or audio effects. This is how it was recorded.
    So, since it worked for me, let's see if we can get enough details from the people having trouble and see if it is user error or a bug I didn't see.
    Oh, just in case there are any Disney World fans, or anyone who just loves Christmas lights, here is what I captured.

  • Capture Program for Premier Pro

    I have CS5 Production Premium and two PCs.  I would like to use the 6-core for editing while using the 4-core for editing support, e.g. capture, while I am editing.  Unfortunately,  I am informed that I cannot use one licence for CS5 upgrade from CS4 on 2 computers at the same time, even if I also retained C4.  So to capture while editing, I need a separate capture program.
    What capture program is compatible with Premier Pro CS5?

    Thank you.  I have not progressed to the Cloud alternatives yet for my applications.  Other alternatives such as being offered by Microsoft for a Windows licence to lease on a yearly payment basis are interesting.  It appears that all updates and new releases might be available such that a large single financial output is avoided.  With this type of software licence, if it is no longer needed, its use can be terminated in the short term at lower cost.  I would jump at this opportunity with Adobe since I could use such a short term lease  for a stand alone Premier Pro CS5.  I could use its capture function for a year, perhaps find other functions of a second Premier Pro is useful, then decide how to continue in the future.  This type of marketing would include customers who find the initial cost of software such as Creative Studios and others out of their reach.  Perhaps unknown to me the Creative Cloud subscription is already doing this.

  • How to capture frame maximizing/minimizing event?

    I have a requirement.
    I have a JTable. The preferred size of the table should be set dynamically when the JFrame/window is maximized or minimized.
    If the window is maximized the preferred size should be
         table.setPreferredSize(new Dimension(1200, 370
    If the window is minimized then preferred size should be
         table.setPreferredSize(new Dimension(715, 370);
    I thought of a solution like if I capture maximize / minimizing event then I can set preferred size accordingly. I need some help
    to capture those events.
    Or if any other solution can be given for this requirement means also it is fine.
    Anybody guide me to capture frame maximizing / minimizing event

    Hi,
    I have coded my requirement as below:
    mainFrame.addComponentListener(new ComponentListener() {                                           // frame where panel->scroll panel is fixed
                   public void componentResized(ComponentEvent e) {         // captured the events by passing component listener
                        if (mainFrame.getExtendedState() == 6) {      // captures the window maximizing event
                             table.getTablePane().setPreferredSize(
                                       new Dimension(1250, 450)); // set required size
                             table.getTablePane().revalidate(); // revalidated.
                        } else {                                                                               // captures window restoring event
                             table.getTablePane().setPreferredSize(
                                       new Dimension(715, 450));
                             table.getTablePane().revalidate();
                   public void componentHidden(ComponentEvent arg0) {}
                   public void componentMoved(ComponentEvent arg0) {}
                   public void componentShown(ComponentEvent arg0) {}
    Thanks for everyone who helped me.

  • Premier pro 5.5 not compatable with windows 7 64 bit

    I have recently spent over 3.5 hours on the phone live only to be told they can't fix the problem of Premier pro shutting down in Windows 7 64bit every time I try to open it.
    I was told to install Pro 4.  I have pro 4 and that is why I bought 5.5  Now I can't get pro 4 to work either it also is shutting down.  Has anyone had the problem.  I believe Adobe has left me hanging after spending 495.

    I was finally luckey enough to get a tech on the phone.  To get the tech I had to call sales and explain what was happening , that the 800-833 6687 would get me to choice 2 for tech help and then hang  up.  This happened yesterday 10-28-2011 roughly 18 times.  The sales person was kind enough to stay on the phone and verify what I was saying and go through the connections and get me to a tech who knew what he was doing and take the time to do it.  It took roughly 1hour and 30 minutes to determine that the video card was the problem.  The adobe site lists my card and compatable with the suite.  I took the machine to Best Buy tech
    and tried to show him the problem and the system worked.  I recreated the scene at home and found the difference was that BB was using only one monitor.  Premier Pro 5.5 is the only part of the suite that will not work with dual monitors.  For 3 days I have spent countless hours and exausted patience only to solve the problem myself.  So much for Adobe tech help.

  • Images, JFS, CSS - How to display the correct aspect ratio

    Hello,
    This is not really related to Jave ServerFaces, however, since I am using JSF to build my application, I thought I would post it here.
    I am trying to display images by using the following tag
    <h:graphicImage style="height:200;width:140;border-width: 0;"
    value="img/#{group.items[1].picFileName}-s.jpg"
    alt="#{mainMenuController.item.customerFacingName}"/>The above tag is doing what it is supposed to do, that is display an image with height: 200 and width: 140, which is equal to the aspect ratio
    of 1.43 (=200/143).
    However, some of the images that I want to display, do not have
    the aspect ratio of 1.43. As a result of that, their height or width is modified according to the above values. This distorts some of the imsage.
    I was wondering if some one else had faced that problem and solved it. One solution that can work is to edit the images to produce an aspect ratio of 1.43, however, editing the individual images is not feasible.
    One probable solution that comes to mind is via CSS: that is by FLOATing the image in a box of fixed height and width. By doing this, the aspect ratio of the image will not be affected. I do not know if FLOATing an image in a box is possible or not. I do not know how to float an image in a box.
    More over, I am using Tiles to control the layout. Defining an image box within a <DIV> tag might complicate things.
    Any ideas, comment, suggestion will be heplful!
