How to capture keyboard strokes while focus is on an external app. Opened with system exec
Hi to the Forum,
I have an application that runs an external app. Through system exec, while this application is open the user needs to input a 6 digit serial number using the keyboard, I need to capture in parallel that information on my main VI in order to perform some information validations, such as the six digits were entered, the serial number is not repeated etc. I have read other post about the same issue but did not found a practical way to achieve a solution, please help with an example of how to do that as I'm on the final stage of the project.

Try doing a SMC and PRAM resets. Sometimes it takes 2-3 attempts for them to work so be a little persistent if they fail the first time.
SMC RESET
Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord and all peripherals.
Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
Release the power button.
Attach the computers power cable.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
PRAM RESET
Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
Release the keys. -
Capturing keyboard strokes on a windows NT machine

I am writing a program which shall run on a windows NT machine. My problem is that the Input Device Control VI's in LabVIEW 7.0, by suprise, don't support Windows NT. I have to capture the keybord strokes while the LabVIEW program is out of fokus. The key combination I have to "catch" i Ctrl+Shift+K.
I hope anyone can help me.Did you try using the event structure: - Key Down?

How to Launch a "setup.exe" with LabVIEW app? No luck with System Exec.vi
I've got an application that I'm trying to update with a separate LabVIEW application (the "Updater"). It's the "Check for Updates" capability you see on other major apps.
Here's the glitch: When the Updater tries to launch "setup.exe" using "System Exec.vi", The installer seems to catch the attempt and pops a dialog titled "Windws XP Setup" saying "Please go to the Control Panel to install and configure system components". The install does not begin and the installer closes (if it was ever open!).
Running the same installer by double-clicking the "setup.exe" file from windows runs just fine.
Here's the question: "How can a LabView app launch an installer?"Could you show the code.
Look at the path where you want to run the code.

How to close the window openned by System Exec VI automatically?
Hello,
I am using System Exec VI to lauch an exe file built from a LabVIEW program. When running System Exec VI, the window of exe file pop out and stays there even after all tasks are completed. I have to close it every time manually. Anyone here know how to close the exe file window automatically when it's done?

Go to Solution.If I understand the question correctly you need to add an invoke node at the end of your application to exit. Depending on the whether it is running as a stand alone application or within LabVIEW it will either exit or stop execution. I've attached the VI I use in my applications.

How does one narrow down apps "open with"?
i get, esp. with an image, all apps available on my mac in the "open with..." contextual menu.
ridiculous!All programs 'register' what they are capable of opening with Launch Services through their info.plist file. In order to change the items listed in the Launch Services database, you have to hack the info.plist file in each app that you want to remove.
I don't know when the database gets built or rebuilt, so it may be possible to hack the launch services database. I don't know how to do that.
With that knowledge, you should be able to Google your way through it.
After you decide to hack up your apps or your system, please don't come back here and ask why your computer doesn't work like it used to. -

You can disable the text field by doind the following I think:
textField.setEditable(false);
Then use:
String someString = textField.getText();
someString += someOtherString;
textField.setText(someString);To append to the field. This should work for all JTextComponents.
