How to catalogue "old" removable media

Hi, I shoot photos, download them from my SD memory into my hard disk, and import them using LR 1.3.
Soon my hard disk gets full and so I can export them burning them onto dvds, retaining all related metadata.
But, what if I want to import from optical media I burned 1 year ago? I have tens of dvd plenty of photos I wished to import in LR, so that in future I could find what I search for using LR good filters.
I don't want to spend time telling LR where the orphan photos are, I simply want LR to answer me 'this photo was on a removable media named "PHOTOS_13".' when I search for a particular keyword.
If I don't go wrong, simpler applications like ACDSee or ThumbsPlus allow this...
Nino

There isn't a way to do this yet in LR, but it sure has been discussed a lot in this forum. Do a forum search for "offline" to find some of what people have been asking for.

    Hi Sam,
    It sounds like you and your husband both setup Family Sharing as Organizers, and you want to disband your family group so that you can join the family group that he created as a Parent/Guardian. The article below will walk you through that process and provide more information about Family Sharing.
    Leave Family Sharing
    Can the family organizer leave or disband a family group?
    Yes. If the family organizer stops Family Sharing, it removes all family members from the family group at once. Go to Settings > iCloud > Family, tap your name as the organizer, then tap Stop Family Sharing.
    The organizer will keep the family calendar, reminders, and shared photo album in their account. They can share the content again with individual family members as needed. Learn how to share calendars and reminders.
    Cheers,

  • How do I remove media from my iPad

    How do I remove media from my iPad

    Since videos and music are considered to be media ...
    You can delete movies and TV shows by tapping and holding down on their icons in the videos app until the X pops up. Tap the X to delete.
    You can delete music in the Music app the same way - tap and hold down on an album icon or artist icon until the X pops up. tap the X to delete. You can remove individual songs in a list by swiping across the song and the Red delete button will pop up. Tap the red delete the button to delete.
    This will remove them from the iPad but they will still be in your iTunes library. Purchased movies - once deleted from the iPad - if not also stored in iTunes on your computer - cannot be downloaded again fro free. You will have to but them again.

    I have just transferred all my raw, jpeg & tiff files into LR4 and using the  opportunity to delete old raw files to free up disc space. How can i completely remove a raw file from my mac disc??

    I'd be careful here: LR references files. It can copy them, like from an SD card to your hard drive, but it doesn't necessarily make duplicates. So when you say you "transferred" those files "into" LR it just means you referenced existing files. And if you delete those they're gone, unless you've made copies. LR does not import files by copying them into a managed library like Aperture does.

  • Shares list is missing removable media.

    I'm running a small LAN with PCs and Macs happily sharing files.
    The one Mac can see the other Mac's internal hard drives, external FW hard drives, CDs, DVDs, and even mounted dmg image files.
    Both Macs cannot see the othe Mac's mounted Jaz disks, Zip disks, or my small 128 MB flash drive in the shares list.
    They are both running Tiger X.4.3 and the problem in seen on both Macs.
    I am logged in as the Admin in both Macs. I see nothing in "Get Info" that can help me.
    From a file sharing perspective, why should a Jaz or Zip disk be any different than a CD or DVD??

    The following media automatically show up in the Network Shares List:
    - All Internal Hard Drives
    - CDs & DVDs
    - mounted DMG file
    - External FireWire Hard Drives
    The following media do NOT show up in the Network Shares List:
    - Jaz & Zip
    - USB Flash Drive
    - Floppy & Superdisk
    > No, this is not a Tiger bug. I'm not quite sure how
    that was inferred from my suggestion to use a helpful
    tool.
    Since you just said, "Go download Sharepoints...", I admitted it was only an assumption. Maybe Tiger bug or a problem with some setting, because I merely think it's curious that an external FW drive is a share and a mounted disk image is a share, yet a flash drive is not, and a Jaz/Zip disk is not.
    > Sooo,
    You say "installation is self-explanatory, but it
    makes no difference".
    But then you say 'would spend the time setting up the
    shareware if it will help, but wonder if you have
    to'?
    You kinda twisted my words around. I'd rather find out if my installation is corrupted or if I have something really screwed up with my hardware, than jump in and start using a 3rd party utility. Despite that, I still took the time to run the program, but no matter what settings I try, I cannot see the Jaz/Zip/flash disks on the other Mac.
    Maybe this is normal Tiger behavior? To see certain types of removal media and not others. I don't know and it's the question I'm trying to get answered. If it's normal Tiger behavior, then 3rd party is obviously my only option.
    > No. You don't have to. You can try editing the
    /etc/smb.conf file by hand, which is the file that
    manages folder/volume sharing.
    Go read about Samba, so you understand the smb.conf
    business.
    Since I'm using PCMacLan on the PC, my main concern in not Samba or Windows File Sharing. My main concern right now is that I can't even get the two Macs to see each other's Jaz/Zip/flash using plain old AFS (Apple File Sharing)?
    > This software takes care of file/volume sharing with
    a typically useful Macintosh GUI for non-CommandLine
    users, by editing the smb.conf file for you, oh, and
    it helps manage network permissions for your users,
    too.
    If you haven't installed and tried the software
    (Sharepoints), try it and humor us. But try not to
    resist taking the easy way.
    I tried it and it did not work.
    > If you have installed and tried it, and it still
    doesn't seem to work, then let's tackle that.
    I would very much appreciate that. I would also appreciate confirmation that it's normal for Tiger to automatically share an external FireWire hard drive but not a Jaz/Zip/or flash.
    > Devices like External hard drives are not
    automatically viewed as a network share, simply
    because they're mounted on the host machine.
    More confusion. Isn't an external FW hard drive mounted on the host machine? I can and do automatically share my external FW hard drives despite what you assert here. Isn't a CD/DVD or a dmg image mounted on the host machine? I have no problem with those showing up in the shares list either.
    Just found out... add floppy disks to the list. You can see the CD/DVD as a share but not a floppy disk. Again, don't you see this as somewhat contradictory behavior?
    If you decide to reply, please try to drop the sarcasm, ok? I think you're taking my first reply a little too personally.
    I just wanted to know why my two installations of Tiger seem to treat some kinds of external media differently than other kinds of external media.
    If you don't know the answer just say so, there's no need to get all itchy with me.

  • Basically... I had an ipod touch sync'd to my dads i tunes.. i then got an iphone and created my own apple id.. how could i transfer the media from my ipod which was used on a different apple id onto my own account without everything deleting

    basically... I had an ipod touch sync'd to my dads i tunes.. i then got an iphone and created my own apple id.. how could i transfer the media from my ipod which was used on a different apple id onto my own account without everything deleting

    Syncing an iDevice to a computer does not remove content from the computer.
    Syncing an iDevice to a computer that it does not normally sync with will remove the content from that device.
    If the media was acquired with a different Apple ID it is in no way linked to your Apple ID.

  • HT2905 No Display Duplicates under File. How to find and remove duplicate items in your iTunes library

    I now have iTunes ver 11.0.4.4 under Windows 7. I lost all iTunes stuff when updating to Windows 7. I have loaded thousands amd thousands of music files from backup disks, but there are many duplicates. I am attemping to re-establish my old library. I used to be able to remove duplicates quickly with the old iTunes. The new iTunes doesn't seem to offer the same service. Is there any way to remove duplicates quickly, or must I do it one by one?

    When deduping use Shift > View > Show Exact Duplicate Items as this is normally a more useful selection. You need to manually select all but one of each group to remove. Sorting the list by Date Added may make it easier to select the appropriate tracks. If you have multiple entries in iTunes connected to the same file on the hard drive then don't send to the recycle bin. Use my DeDuper script if you're not sure, don't want to do it by hand, or want to preserve ratings, play counts and playlist membership. See this thread for background and please take note of the warning to backup your library before deduping.
    (If you don't see the menu bar press ALT to show it temporarily or CTRL+B to keep it displayed)

  • Gnome: Add custom command to Removable Media application

    I'm trying to setup cvlc to run a DVD when inserted into the drive.  I created a cvlc.desktop so it is seen when I go to to the Removable Media menu but it doesn't work because a custom command is required.  How do I configure it so that one can be run?  The cvlc command to run a DVD is:
    cvlc dvd://
    Any ideas?

    Try modify /etc/PolicyKit/PolicyKit.conf as root:
    <match user="$USER">
    <match action="org.freedesktop.hal.storage.*">
    <return result="yes"/>
    </match>
    <match action="hal-storage-mount-fixed-extra-options">

    <match action="hal-storage-mount-removable-extra-options">

    Change $USER for your username... then /etc/rc.d/hal restart as root

  • Copy Keychain to Removable Media

    Hello All:
    I wish to 'copy' my Keychain to removable media, just in case something untoward happens. Of course, the backup is in Time Machine, however without another 'Mac' around I cannot access the data. So, I figured I copy Keychain to removable media (iPod Classic set up as hard drive).
    Now, Mac Help says to "Copy your keychain to a location... or copy it to your removable media."
    Great! Now for the daft question: How do I (exactly) copy my keychain to removable media?
    Many, many thanks in advance!

    V.K.:
    Many Thanks for the reply. I should have thought it would be as easy as that. Although you are absolutely right that removable media is no better than a TM back-up, considering I will still need a Mac to access Keychain, it is more useful to me. It is easier to travel with the iPod (Classic) and have the info available than to carry a TM, even if I will need to locate a Mac to access.
    Many thanks again,
    Bill

  • HT5824 how do i permanently remove a song that i purchased from my itunes library ?

    how do i permanently remove a song that i purchased from my itunes library on my iphone 5s ?

    Unfortunately that was empty too. The Firefox upgrade at that time seemed to wipe an awful lot of stuff. After searching, re-installing etc, whatever was suggested, I gave up. It was a while back. I will remember your suggestions if it ever (hopefully not) happens again though. I did have a very old bookmarks backup, but that would not import, so I did use bits of it manually but it had saved as a massive merged line of sites without my folders, so was a bit too much to fiddle with. The loss of the classical music sites was what I regretted most, no idea what they were called and cannot find some of them now. Ah well, no point in fretting about it now I suppose.

  • How do I delete/remove unessary/duplicate fles

    Recently my old tower crashed, I bought another (Used) but it has numerous files stored I do not need/use How do I delete/remove the files?

    If you have the operating system disk so that you can re-install the operating system, the safest thing to do is to format the hard drive in that new (used) PC to start from scratch. Keep in mind that you will loose all installed programs, so those will need to be re-installed.
    Otherwise, file-by-file or folder-by-folder right-click and '''Delete''' the file or folder. When you're done make sure you run a de-fragmentation utility program; WIndowsXP has one in Programs > Accessories -> System Tools

  • Kingston DataTraveler shown as having removable media.

    I have tried two new Kingston HyperX 3.0 DataTraveler DTHX30/256GB USB Flash drives in my Lenovo T500 2081 with Windows 7 Professional 64-bit, but both show up in Explorer and Storage Disk Management as a device with removable media--as opposed to being a removable drive. It therefore has 0 capacity and cannot be accessed for reading or writing, nor formatting. I have checked that I have the latest Microsoft and Lenovo drivers, but nothing I have tried or that has been suggested by Kingston or other sources fixes this issue. The DTHX30/256GB works fine on computers with Windows 7 32-bit and Windows XP, just not on my Lenovo T500. I have used Diskpart on another computer to clean, partition, and reformat the DTHX30/256GB without any affect on how the T500 sees the drive. I also used a software utility on another computer to "flip" the removable bit without apparent affect in how the T500 sees the drive. What is causing this issue and how to fix it?

    could you try the testing repo?
    there is the new udev along with new initscripts that should fix it.
    other fix would be to change the udev.rules rule according to this:
    # never access removable ide devices, the drivers are causing event loops on open()
    BUS=="ide", DRIVER!="ide-cdrom", SYSFS{block/removable}="1", GOTO="persistent_end"
