How to change CPU voltage on a laptop?

I purchased an HP Envy Touch smart 15 for about 1000$ It is using Windows 8.1 a Intel Core i7-4700MQ processor clocked at 2.40Hz, 16.0GB RAM. I have the problem "Your primary display driver has stopped responding and has sucesfully recovered" I have searched for solutions and I have found many sources to say that the soulution was just to change the voltage from 1.00 to 1.05. This makes sense to me as I have tried changing the Timeout delay and deleting/reinstalling drivers, windows updates, switching to windows 7 even. Nothing has worked and the only solution people are getting is this. The only problem is this is a laptop and I checked the bios and found no option for this. Is there a program I can do this with? Thank you for taking the time to read this and please help! It happens often and it is making my schoolwork/homework a living heck.  :/

Hi,
No, you won't be able to "overclock" this kind of laptops. One main understanding reason: Laptops will overheat very quick and their lives will be very short. Vendors don't want users send their machines back because of overheated during warranty period.

Q: I cannot adjust the CPU Voltage on my A55/A75 motherboard?
A: Due to a hardware limitation on this platform, you cannot adjust the CPU voltage. However, you can adjust the NB voltage which is the same on this platform.
The NB voltage setting is below the "Advanced DRAM Configuration" and the only way to increase a cpu relating voltage on that board.

As an update, I installed an update 5.7on my Mac laptop, now the Lightroom 5.0 has become a "Lightroom Mobile" version.  How can change it back to the laptop version 5.7?
Thanks for any help you can provide.

LR on your laptop is still a desktop version.  It is just now able to upload to the cloud to replicate photos to either http://lightroom.adobe.com/ or an iPad that has LR Mobile installed.
I think you probably just want to change the LR 5 identity plate back so it doesn’t mention LR Mobile all the time.  Hover over the identity-plate area, and click on the little triangle that appears, then choose Change Identity Plate.

cannot change CPU Voltage??(first time here)

In Cell Menu you will find something like CPU VID / Over VID. The first will be set to Startup (=you CPU default volts) and the 2nd will be disabled but you can set them manually to CPU VID = 1.4 and OverVID to 3.3% / 5% etc to let the CPU use higher volts when Oc'd.  Good luck !

  • MSI 945GCM5 V2 how change cpu voltage

I have Dual-Core E2160 VRam CPU voltage 1.3.. its lowest? I dont know where in Bios can this be changed.. because iam on stock 1.8GHz and temp is still 70°C+ in idle. (but in bios its wrote 50°C)

The Alpine 11 is almost as weak as a boxed cooler. It is a most simple all aluminium cooler without any heatpipes that is limited to just 95W TDP max. According to Arctic it cools a i5-2500K 3°C better than the boxed one.
Measure temps under load and in idle with Core Temp and report back.

  • How to change CPU clock speed for conserving power?

Hi, I own a compaq CQ60 404CA and I am wondering how I can change the settings for minimal cpu speeds.
I know it automatically sets it's speed down to half when not being used. I want to decrease that even further.
    Is that possible?
I tried Nvidia system tools, but it gives a wrong reading regarding the CPU speeds (2.8ghz when its actually 1.05ghz)
    Thanks
    I've tried:
    1. Changing CPU power settings down to 1%, and even then it stayed at half speed
    2. Checked Bios, but didn't find settings

Yes it is possible, try steps in amd forum guide, here

  • BIOS doesn't change CPU Voltage P55-GD65

    I have a P55-GD65 with BIOS Ver 1.7
No matter what setting I put the the CPU voltage it seems to run in auto only.  I have tried many combination's of settings that I have read on the forums but nothing seems to be working.
    Has anybody had this problem?
    Thanks,
    Mark

Yes even when I have Intel C-STATE and Intel EIST disabled.
The voltage is much lower.  I can't over clock because I cannot up the CPU voltage.  I have the CPU multiplier at 21 and the clock at 155.  If I go even up to 156 on the clock my system will blue screen.
When I put the voltage in Auto and monitor it and then put it in manual and crank it up to 1.45 and monitor it the voltage behaves as it is in auto.  I have XMS 1600 memory and the Mugen B rev 2 cooler so I know that is not an issue.  I might have a defective MB.  I've been building PC's for years so I'm not a newbe.  I've usually used Supermicro boards and this is my first MSI board.  The board is very nice and if it worked it would be great.  I was going to build another system with that board but am a little gun shy now.
    Thanks for all your help.

  • PXIe6556 - How to change output voltage during the generation?

I would like to know if is possible to change the output voltage (data lines) during the generation?
    1. Start Generation - Vout=1V
    2. Change output voltage without stop the generation to Vout=1.2V
    3. Change output  voltage to ....
    Tks
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hello engfpe,
Take a look at the example bellow.
In this case, it's being generated a waveform, but you can change all that process for a simple constant.

  • Cannot change CPU Voltage??(first time here)

    Hi,
    My first post Here.
I've been trying to check the limits on my hardware after reading a lot of OC-guides.
    I have;
    K8N SLI Platinum (bios 3.7)
    3200+ Venice
    2 Gb Corsair 2*1024 CL2
    POV 7800GT
for the moment a Seagate 200 Gb EDI-disk.
    Tagan 580 W PSU
When trying to get my CPU over 2,5 GHz I wanted to raise the voltage from 1.4 BUT I cant.
Maybe I am doing some newbie-error or missed something obvious??? but I can not change it. Cannot find anything here about it either(maybe I'm just lousy to search).
I cannot go to that line in BIOS, it'a just a cross in front of that row.
Please, tell me I'm diong something wrong that is very easy to fix.
Maybe someone with the same hardwaresetup can tell me how much I can expect to OC this rig? some settings

Good luck !

If you do not have a menu list in the top left corner of your iTunes, press the ALT key to display it. Then select the second item on the list ("Edit" in my screenshot):
then select the last item on the drop-down menu ("Preferences" in the screenshot):
and you will be on the General tab. At the bottom of the tab, click on the drop-down menu and select Norwegian (Bokmål only it seems! ):
The change will not take effect until you re-start iTunes.

There aren't any laptops that I know of that can add another graphics card. There are a very few higher end laptops that have removable graphics cards, but for the most part on Toshiba's you can only replace it with the exact same type even if it is removable.  I think you are wasting your time and money trying to upgrade the graphics on that model.
If you don't post your COMPLETE model number it's very difficult to assist you. Please try to post in complete sentences with punctuation, capitals, and correct spelling. Toshiba does NOT provide any direct support in these forums. All support is User to User in their spare time.

  • Memory Problem on 790fx-gd70 - how to access DDR Voltage in BIOS?

I have been getting memory related problems on a 6 month old system. I could only boot from one stick of RAM (Corsair TW3X4G1333C9A) but even then system was not stable for gameplay or stability test though this stick did pass overnight memtest. I returned the board, cpu and memory for them to test. They diagnosed faulty RAM and replaced. Well it worked OK for 24 hours then I started getting BSOD "PFN_List_Corrupt" and "Memory_Management" crashes.
I tested the new sticks and one fails memtest after a few seconds with 2378 errors and the other, although it passes memtest with 20 passes, crashes out straight away on Prime95 Blend Test (i.e. the one that stresses RAM).
They suggested I enter DDR Voltage manually rather than relying on Auto but no matter what I seem to enable this option is greyed out. Does anyone know which settings need changing from defaults so I can get at the voltage section?
I have tried swapping around the dimms but they are all the same regardless so not a slot problem. Now of course, I don't see it as a RAM problem either unless I am the unluckiest person to keep getting bad sticks. So now I think maybe something on the board or CPU is causing damage to the RAM or at least causing it to mis-report. Could a fault in the memory controller be doing this and if so how can I test for this?
At my wit's end here. Hope someone has some ideas - either on how to access DDR Voltage in the BIOS or get to the cause of my problem.
    Many thanks.

OK thanks for explaining a bit more  .  This power unit did get some very good reviews in the sub $100 from many sites and from these I thought it would suit my needs. I have arranged to try a friend's 650w next week.
I think I am maybe not being clear.  I have had the system running OK for six months. I had had no need to test the ram and didn't bother with stability tests at that stage.  I am not a gamer and use my machine more for video and graphics work.  One thing I did notice from the start was the couple of games I do have on (Call of Duty and Fallout3) would give occasional freezes.  I put it down to my now rather old hot GPU which I would get around to replacing in due course.
Now the real problems started recently when I got round to replacing the stock cooler with a Titan Fenrir.  Trouble with this is it overhangs Dimm1 but in moving around the memory sticks I seem to have opened a real can of worms.  I could only get it to boot from one of the sticks.  This stick passed memtest but would crash out of prime95 and games would freeze within a couple of minutes.
Now, the retailers here in the UK told me to send back board, cpu and RAM.  They tested all 3 but they only replaced the memory and as you can see from my first post the memory related problems have continued.  The memory by the way is in Corsair's list as "100% tested compatibility".  Is it possible that something about the CPU/Board that is damaging the RAM?  If a stick is failing memtest (it failed another test too called Windiag) is that definitive?  It is bad for sure or board/cpu misreporting?  Am I right in thinking memtest86 does cannot distinguish faulty RAM from faulty memory controller?  Is there a test I can do to check if the CPU alone is faulty?
I don't know if this means anything to you guys but when I ran the prime95 (Blend) recently with both sticks in it failed straight away on 2 cores but went on running on the other 2.
One of my other frustrations is I don't know anyone else with am3 board or memory so swap things around.
Any suggestions for pinning this down would be much appreciated.  Just don't assume my knowledge is as great as yours  .  But I do learn.  I never knew v x a=w for example. And I now know how to change DDR Voltage in the BIOS - I had been expecting a sub-menu where Auto was greyed out and in fact it was just sitting there waiting for me to press + and -.  Very embarassing that I spent hours trying to change this when the instructions on what to do were right there in the help column!

  • 785G-E53 (DDR3) - Is CPU Voltage configurable ? (presale question)

    Hi,
i'm searching for the board which fits my needs, 785G-E53 looks like it (even if it does have 1 less SATA port due eSATA which i don't need), but since this is going to be a low power machine with Sempron 140 then CPU voltage adjustment is a must (on current board this Sempron 140 runs with 1.05V Vcore).
Because manual is not entirely clear on this, i would like to see a confirmation from MSI or someone who owns this board that this boards allows you to change CPU Voltage.
    Thanks

You also need to take into consideration the low cost $50-$80 micro ATX MB's seldom have the BIOS features their full size more expensive brothers do.
The BIOS features of both boards were pretty much comparable (it was GA-M85M-US2H (rev. 1.1), price in USD converted from EUR is close to $90), i account the difference to chipset, RAM module difference (1xDDR2 vs 3xDDR3) and different VRM.

Lowering the processor speed, in MHz, will also lower power consumption. Performance will drop, too.
Another thing to consider is the PSU itself. 75% or 85% efficiency will amount to quite a lot. Normally PSU:s are configured for a certain level of demand, for example 100W. If you find a PSU specialising in low power consumption you will save a little more. I have had good experiences with Nexus PSU:s in that respect.
Lowering MHz does lower the power consumption, but not as much as lowering Vcore, and with 5 hard drives 61W is a extremly good result IMHO. PSU is not a issue here, that computer uses my spare Corsair HX520. Unfortunately i had two Enermax Modu82-425 going to RMA, so i don't really trust Enermax anymore even if the issues were rather small (clicking fan noise in 2nd case, electric buzz even with PSU turned off to 0 position in 1st case).
The real thing i dislike is the peak power usage when i turn the computer on, it jumps up to 110W (now and before board change too), which makes it impossible to use the picoPSU.
