How to change DRM Protection on ebooks

Hi guys,
I have a few ebooks that my son added to the Sony Reader he bought for me as a present that I can no longer access as the Reader is now authorised under my email and Adobe ID but the original ebooks he purchased are still under his email and Adobe ID so the Reader will no longer open them.
I have access to both his Online eLibrary Account where he purchased the books from, and to his Adobe ID account but can't work out how to reauthorise the books. I contacted an Adobe online technician but he could not help and referred me to this forum.

I think your question should go in the Digital Editions forum,

I wish to add DRM protection to our EPUBS and PDF's so that they can only be read using Adobe Digital Editions, so that we can control licensing.

    Hi John,
At present, the only places you can buy copy-protected ebooks that are suitable for the Sony Reader are from Sony's own ebook store and from Borders.com. The books you buy from eBooks.com won't work on the Sony Reader.
Please contact our support team direct at help (at) ebooks.com, and tell them what's happened, and they'll be able to help you out.

  • How to change AAC protected format to AAC unprotected format

I have been searching on this subject and I could't find an ansure. So i'm asking it myself. I have been trying to play protected AAC format on my XBOX 360 and it wont work because it's protected so i was wondering if there is a way to change it to unprotected. And if there is will someone please tell me.

You can burn the protected AAC files to a normal audio CD. And any audio CD can be imported to iTunes in any format you want that iTunes supports. You can do the math from there.

  • HT201272 How do I remove DRM-protected tracks?  I've purchased iTunes match and followed all of the directions for redownloading and I still can't play some of my tracks on the DJay 2 app.  Please help!  Do I need to purchase these tracks all over again?

How do I remove the DRM-Protection from tracks so that I can play them on my DJay 2 app.  I've followed the directions for removal and it's not working...
Will I have to purchase these tracks again?

Apple's official advice is here... HT2905 - How to find and remove duplicate items in your iTunes library. It is a manual process and the article fails to explain some of the potential pitfalls.
Use Shift > View > Show Exact Duplicate Items to display duplicates as this is normally a more useful selection. You need to manually select all but one of each group of identical tracks to remove. Sorting the list by Date Added may make it easier to select the appropriate tracks, however this works best when performed immediately after the dupes have been created.  If you have multiple entries in iTunes connected to the same file on the hard drive then don't send to the recycle bin. This can happen, for example, if you start iTunes with a disconnected external drive, then connect it, reimport from your media folder, then restart iTunes.
Use my DeDuper script if you're not sure, don't want to do it by hand, or want to preserve ratings, play counts and playlist membership. See this thread for background. Please take note of the warning to backup your library before deduping, whether you do so by hand or using my script, in case something goes wrong.

  • Can't authorize DRM protected ebook to Adobe ID

    Hi,
I get the following error when trying to authorize an DRM protected ebook: "The supplier account you entered is not linked to the item you want to open. Please try again." I'm sorry if it isn't entirely correct, but I live in the Netherlands and this is the best translation I could make.
My brother bought me this ebook as a present, but I can't link it to my Adobe id. If he had to authorize it to buy it for me, is it possible for him to unauthorize it, so that I can authorize it to my Adobe id?
I haven't told him yet that I have this problem, because it was a present and if he can't do anything about it I don't know if I want to let him know you understand?
I would be very grateful if someone could help me with this.

I tried to get some help from Adobe support, after being transferred 3 times, they suggested I try here.

  • HT1727 How do I know - BEFORE I purchase a song - whether I'm getting the "Plus" version or the regular DRM-protected version?

The title pretty much says it all, but I'll say it again: how do I know, before I purchase a song, whether I'm getting the free-and-clear Plus version or just the basic DRM-protected version?

If that's true (and I'm not saying it's not), then why do they still refer to "DRM-protected music" in their online help (at http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1727) after 4 years of not selling any DRM-protected music?  Was it just an oversight on their part, to not update the support page or at least to put an explanation on that page similar to what you provided?

Set your Computer to work with our eBook provider
    1.  Download and install Adobe Digital Editions. This software requires  Flash.
    2. Open up Adobe Digital Editions. It will ask you to activate  your software with an Adobe ID.
    3. If you create an Adobe ID:
    a.  You may download the book to more than one computer as long as the  computers all
use the same Adobe ID. (Up to 6 computers can be  activated using one Adobe ID.)
    b. You can transfer your eBooks only  to Nooks that are using the same Adobe ID.
    4. If you decide to  continue anonymously:
    a. You will not be able to transfer eBooks to  your Nook!
    b. You may only download to one computer.
    c. You can  activate an Adobe ID at any time. However, you may lose the rights to  see any
    eBooks that were downloaded previously.
    5. We recommend  that you create an Adobe ID. Follow the steps to do so.
    6. Activate  your Nook by plugging it into your computer with Adobe Digital Editions  open.
    7. Adobe Digital Editions will detect your Nook and ask to  activate it using the same Adobe ID as
your copy of Adobe Digital  Editions. Follow the prompts. (It may take a few minutes for Digital
    Editions  to see your Nook.)
Getting your eBook on  to your Nook
    1. Open up Adobe Digital Editions.
    2. Plug in your Nook. If you have not previously set it up, Adobe   Digital Editions will ask to register
your Nook using the same Adobe  ID as your Digital Editions.
    3. Your Nook will appear on the left  under Bookshelves.
    4. To transfer your eBook to the Nook, click on  your previously  downloaded eBooks and drag them
to the Nook icon.  The book will transfer.
    5. Unplug your Nook.
    6. To find your new  eBook, go to My Library.
    7. On the touch screen, scroll up until  you see My Documents.
    8. Your new book will be in My Documents.
    9. Enjoy!

  • How to change protected attribute?

    Hi all,
    This is the situation:
In standard SAP there is an object OBJ_A with a protected attribute ATTR_P. The object has a getter method for the attribute, but no setter.
    My requirement:
i need to manipulate/change the protected attribute ATTR_P.
    what i've tried so far:
I created my own class CL_Z which inherits from the class of OBJ_A. Then i created a method CHANGE_ATTR_P.
In a BADI where the standard object OBJ_A is available i instantiated my z-object OBJ_Z.
With casting, referencing etc i tried to get to the protected attribute. but no luck.
    has anyone any suggestions?
    Thanks alot.

If the BADI gives you an object which has the type of the parent class then you cannot cast it into the subclass type. I doubt that there is any chance to change the protected attribute because it might be protected for a reason.
It would work if the protected class implements an interface and the getter method is defined in the interface but that is not the case, correct?

  • How to Identify whether my WMA file is DRM protected?

A friend just loaded some audio files of our lecture class onto my computer that are .wma files from a usb drive recorder she owns. I downloaded one or two programs to try to convert them so I could play them on iTunes but the programs didn't work.
I can play them on QuickTime but I would really like to be able to play them on my iPhone and format/organize them on my iTunes (since that is where all of my other audio files are).
I'm worried they aren't converting correctly because they are DRM-protected, though I don't know why they would be! Can anyone tell me where to find out in the audio file if the file is DRM protected or not?

I can play them on QuickTime
They're not protected. Try using Switch or EasyWMA.

  • How to play previously DRM protected content in 3rd party iOS apps?

I have a collection of tracks which I purchased from iTunes around 2008, which have the iTunes DRM protection. I would like to play these tracks through 3rd party iOS applications. Specifically, the applications "NuVo Player", "Sonos", and "Ambify", although this seems to apply to all 3rd party music apps.
To remove the DRM from the files, I signed up for iTunes match. I enabled the service in iTunes, and let it scan my library. Once it was complete, I deleted the tracks which have DRM, and used the iTunes match service to re-download them. I used the Finder to inspect the new files, and verified that they are no longer protected. They are .m4a format, and are capable of being played by 3rd party applications in OS X.
I then removed the protected files from my phone, and manually re-synced the new files to my phone. Even after doing this, they are unplayable by 3rd party iOS apps. Unsurprisingly, syncing this .m4a file to a new device (which never had the protected version) allows it to play.
It seems that metadata of some kind may be retained on the iOS device. I suspect a full device restore would fix the problem, but I'm looking for a less intrusive solution.

I found that restoring defaults on the device, followed by a restore from backup, allows this track to play in 3rd party apps.

  • How do I transfer DRM protected Movies to my Playbook?

I have a large music library I have downloaded over the years through iTunes. All of the music is DRM protected and it won't play on my Playbook. Is there a way to get the videos on my Playbook? I use a Macbook Pro as a computer.

  • How do I re-download only the music that was previously DRM protected?

I want to use the new iTunes in the Cloud to rid myself of the dreaded m4p songs that I had been downloading for years. Is there an easy way to detect them in iTunes? I can't just download everything I have ever downloaded because it "sees" the protected music.
Basically, I want to iTunes Plus my music.

to download your previously purchased drm-protected music as iTunes plus you will still have to upgrade them to itunes plus the old way. meaning you'll have to pay for the upgrade. if you don't, you'll still be able to use the iTunes cloud service to download those tracks to all your devices, but only the 128k protected versions.

  • Data recovery planning for DRM protected musi

    Hi folks,
I'm curious to hear from you on this topic: <FONT color=#cc0000>how do you protect your DRM-protected music (with download license, <EM>not subscription</EM>) - and I mean: data backup and recovery.
Let me put it this way: I'm interested in buying music online, as opposed to buying CDs as I did until now. But I'm real concerned about the implications of the DRM.
If I see how much trouble it costs to do proper data recovery planning (i.e. a backup plan and execution) for my home pc, and how much data tends to get lost when transitioning to new PC or OS, and how quickly internet economy can shift to new hypes and solutions, I'm simply afraid that all these DRM restrictions will mean that in 5 years from now, I will not be able to use the music I buy today.
Reason can be : data loss, format changes, companies out of business, changing to OS (Linux, ...) that doesn't have the DRM appropriate software, etc, etc...
So, for instance, do you convert all your DRM music to DRM-free formats? Or how do you answer the above question for yourself?
I emphasize that I'm talking about personal and legal backups here, and no more than that.
    thanks for sharing!
    Fred

  • How to change apple id's?

My little brother did not have an apple id so he used my older brothers but no he has one so how do i change the apple id's? When he tries to download an app it asks for my older brothers password.

    You can't.
All apps - all paid and free apps include DRM protection which is tied to the iTunes account that was used to download the apps. You cannot transfer apps from one iTunes account to another.
In order to update the apps downloaded with his older brother's iTunes account will require using his older brother's iTunes account along with knowing the password for the account.

  • DRM Protection Convert

How do I convert iTunes tracks into a non-DRM format in the easiest and fastest way?
I got thousands of iTunes DRM protected songs.
They cannot play on professional DJ software like Traktor.
Now that apple changed its policy to iTunes Plus (non protected), how do I convert the old songs into a non-DRM format in the easiest and fastest way possible. I know that I can burn Audio CDs and Re-Import.... it will take days and hundreds of CDs... I am looking for a simpler, automatic process.
    Please help!

What does iTunes+ have to do with converting your DRM iTunes?
Not all content is DRM free - only some - that does not mean that all content will be DRM free. You have the option to update/upgrade your DRM tunes to DRM free for a fee but they will still be in an AAC format.
The only way that I know of 'converting' DRM tunes is to do it one audio CD at a time.
