How to change from LR2 cat to LR3 cat

Hi all,
I have been using LR3 since it came out. However, my catalog that I use "Lightroom 2 Catalog" was never updated to a "Lightroom 3 Catalog". Does it matter, if so, how do I manually upgrade?
When I backup my catalog, it backs up the catalog and previews to a variable filename such as "2010-08-28 0923" that contains the LRCAT file and Irdata file. This Irdata file contains very few previews...
It also updates a file "Lightroom 2 Catalog (2)-2 Previews.Irdata" that is located in a different location which contains all of the previews. This same location contains the LRCAT file, Ircat.lock file, and Ircat-journal file that appear to update at the same time.
What are the Ircat.lock and Ircat-journal files for?
If I want to set up a catalog on an external site it seems that I would copy and past all of the files I just mentioned (not the backup)?

When you first used LR 3, it should have asked if you wanted to upgrade your existing catalog or create a new one. If you didn't upgrade your existing catalog and wish to do so now, just locate the catalog and open it, LR 3 will then upgrade it.
After it has been upgraded the LR 2 catalog sits alongside the LR 3 catalog so you can revert to the older catalog as well. They will both be in the same folder unless you have chosen to locate them elsewhere.
As far as back ups go, each time you back up LR it creates a back up with the date it was created on in whatever location you have chosen in catalog settings. I back up every day and once a week delete all the backups except the last 2, which means I have up to nine, but no fewer than 2 backups....these should always be located on a separate drive to where your catalog is located, not just a separate partition of the same drive.
The lock file is created when you have LR opened and deleted when you close LR, this locks LR and prevents you having two versions open at the same time (or at least it should be deleted when you close LR, sometimes if you have shut down your computer without closing LR or have experienced a crash it won't be deleted in which case LR will not open until you manually delete it)

Satellite C660 - How to change from 32 bit to 64 bit operating system?

Can some one please tell me how to change from a 32 bit to a 64 bit operating system for my Toshiba Satellite C660 Notebook?
No cds came with my notebook so I can't restore.
I installed the 32 bit when setting up by mistake and would now like to change.

In user manual you could find a info that recovery disk needs to be created using preinstalled software called Toshiba Recovery Media (disk) Creator

The Toshiba image of some notebook models contains the Win 7 32bit and 64bit system.
Not sure if your image supports both versions so cannot say for sure if you would be able to switch to 64bit but try this:

During HDD recovery procedure you should be asked what version you want to chooseof course if both versions would be available so check thisotherwise you will need to purchase an 64bit version.

Hello,
I'm using the MATE desktop, OpenBox as window manager and SLIM for login.
I'm starting to feel tired of not being able to change between various desktops without closing the main one, I mean, with OpenSUSE Ctrl+Alt+F1 to F6 are terminal ttys (it is so with Arch+SLIM too), Ctrl+Alt+F7 to F12 are graphical ttys, you can change between any of them and log in as any user you want without closing the F7 tty, or closing it, or doing whatever you want. This was petty cool in order to kill some broken task that hanged the screen or in order to do whatever.
May I don't know how to do it with SLIM, but anytime I do Crtl+Alt+F9, for example, I just got a blank screen with an hyphen blinking. With OpenSUSE I got a graphical login screen.

I've got installed OpenBox, MATE and enlightenment. It is suppose me to be able to change between them pressing F1, and in fact SLIM changes where says "session: XXXX" between them at the login screen, but whatever I choose SLIM ALWAYS log me in MATE. I've got to change it manually in ~/.xinitrc and logout and login again every time I want to change between sessions. I cannot do it directly at the login screen.
Sometimes after login out and login in several times SLIM hangs and I have to reboot.
I think all these problems comes from slim, and since with OpenSUSE, that use kdm, I had no problem I want to try kdm as login manager, but I haven't seen any guide to do it if you've got a login manager already installed. I've seen it just if it is the first system installatio. And I'm a little scared of breaking my login and spend too much time fixing it.

WOW, I had to install kdebase-workspace and it installed as dependency a functional kde system . And... I was able to choose between all the other desktops but MATE, so... kdm and all that it installed with it's already uninstalled
But with kdm I was able to open an enlightenment session in tty 8 without closing kde in tty 7...

Sounds like your xinitrc isn't quite right, check the wiki page for slim.
I'm tired of reviewing my xinitrc in order to make slim let me choose my desktop. I think the F1 to change the session is experimental. I will open other thread in order to get some help or in order to help SLIM to solve this problem.
And you could try LightDM instead (because KDM probably pulls in some KDE crap). It comes with dm-tool (and a replacement for gdmflexiserver) to start a new session on another tty.
Sounds good. I'll try to make slim work perfectly and if I don't get it to work as perfectly I want I'll try other login managers.

Satellite P300-19P - How to change from NTSC to PAL?

Everytime I want to display on my TV I have to change the TV from PAL to NTSC as I can't find how to change the S-Video output on the laptop from NTSC to PAL.

Im not owner of Satellite P300 but either you can change this option in BIOS or in display driver. Normally there you have an option to change between PAL and NTSC on S-Video output.

also from licence perspective it is not allowed. if machine comes with a win7 x64 OEM licence you are not allowed to install win 7 32 bit. (it also should not be possible with the key provided on the licence sticker)
Only if you buy a full version you can choose (NOT OEM!), within the Retail! Version normaly both (32 and 64 bit) DVD's are included but you only allowed to install only one Version on one PC (32 OR 64 Bit) ...if you buy OEM (only allowed with new PC or HDD) you have to buy 32 Bit OR 64 Bit Version. (also no installsupport included in the OEM Versions)
So from this point of view... you have to buy a full retail version of windows 7 or a new hdd with an 32 Bit OEM WIN7 in order to do not have licence issues.
(OEM versions are always cheaper)

Hello everyone? I have a Mac Pro Late 2013 with Mac OS X v10.9.4. I want to change from Mac OS X to Mac OS X Server v10.9.4. Is it possible?

If an enterprise mail server is a requirement, then I'd generally recommend installing Windows Server, with Active Directory and Exchange Server, Sharepoint server and related features. Not OS X Server.
OS X Server includes the Postfix and Dovecot packages and related tools, and which are common Unix servers used for mail.
If you want to run the integrated mail server within OS X Server, you'll need both private (assuming a NAT'd network) and public DNS services must be entirely correctly configured — other mail servers will use any of your DNS configuration errors as a reason not to accept mail from your server, and potentially as a reason not to send mail to your server — and you'll need static IP from your ISP, and a decent-grade firewall, and preferably a firewall with an embedded VPN server and with DMZ capabilities configured to keep any server breaches contained and separate from your inner network. Your firewall will usually need to have TCP port 25, TCP 587, and either TCP/UDP 995 or preferably TCP 993 open, and forwarded through; the appropriate ports for whatever services you're using.
You'll generally not want to have your internal, private, NAT'd network DNS servers accessible to and serving translation publicly.
Or yes, Kerio does quite well, and is definitely a step or two up from the standard mail software in OS X Server — though nowhere near what Exchange Server and Active Directory and the rest can provide for a typical enterprise.
As for many of the questions that can arise when configuring OS X Server via Server.app for DNS and mail, please see the help within Server.app.
