How to change IP address permanently on Solaris 10

Hi Solaris Experts,
I would like to update an IP address permanently but believes ifconfig
only does it on the fly and will revert back once the Solaris 10 Sun Fire server
is rebooted:
( i ) # uname -a
SunOS angel 5.10 Generic_139556-08 i86pc i386 i86pc
( ii ) # ifconfig -a
bge0: flags=201000803<UP,BROADCAST,MULTICAST,IPv4,CoS> mtu 1500 index 2
inet 10.56.120.37 netmask fffffc00 broadcast 10.56.123.255
ether 0:1e:68:9b:30:33
nge0: flags=201000843<UP,BROADCAST,RUNNING,MULTICAST,IPv4,CoS> mtu 1500 index 4
inet 203.20.160.62 netmask ffffff00 broadcast 203.20.160.255
ether 0:1e:68:9b:30:35
nge0:1: flags=201000843<UP,BROADCAST,RUNNING,MULTICAST,IPv4,CoS> mtu 1500 index4
inet 203.20.160.81 netmask ffffff00 broadcast 203.20.160.255
nge1: flags=201000803<UP,BROADCAST,MULTICAST,IPv4,CoS> mtu 1500 index 5
inet 10.56.120.40 netmask fffffc00 broadcast 10.56.123.255
ether 0:1e:68:9b:30:36
( iii ) # vi /etc/inet/hosts (/etc/inet/ipnodes is softlinked to /etc/inet/hosts)
#10.56.120.37 angel angel.apple.com loghost
203.20.160.91 angel angel.apple.com loghost
( iv ) # svcadm restart network/physical
( v ) # ifconfig -a
bge0: flags=201000803<UP,BROADCAST,MULTICAST,IPv4,CoS> mtu 1500 index 2
inet 203.20.160.91 netmask ff000000 broadcast 203.255.255.255
ether 0:1e:68:9b:30:33
nge0: flags=201000843<UP,BROADCAST,RUNNING,MULTICAST,IPv4,CoS> mtu 1500 index 4
inet 203.20.160.62 netmask ffffff00 broadcast 203.20.160.255
ether 0:1e:68:9b:30:35
nge0:1: flags=201000843<UP,BROADCAST,RUNNING,MULTICAST,IPv4,CoS> mtu 1500 index4
inet 203.20.160.81 netmask ffffff00 broadcast 203.20.160.255
nge1: flags=201000803<UP,BROADCAST,MULTICAST,IPv4,CoS> mtu 1500 index 5
inet 10.56.120.40 netmask fffffc00 broadcast 10.56.123.255
ether 0:1e:68:9b:30:36
However, I want the correct netmask & broadcast are 255.255.255.0 & 203.20.160.255
respectively, the same as nge0: (203.20.160.62) & nge0:1 (203.20.160.81).
The following ifconfig command does update the IP address together with both correct netmask & broadcast
but don't believe that this change will stay after reboot:
#ifconfig bge0 inet 203.20.160.91 netmask 255.255.255.0 broadcast 192.168.1.255
The value in /etc/netmasks (softlinked to /etc/inet/netmasks) is:
10.56.120.0 255.255.252.0
The value in /etc/defaultrouter is:
203.20.160.1
In short, which other files also need to be updated to pickup the correct netmask (255.255.255.0)
& broadcast (203.20.160.255) permanently, without having to reboot the server?
Thanks in advance,
Jack

Hi Nik,
Thanks for your advice once again but are you able to provide the reason behind your suggestion, so that I won't blindly making this change without knowing why?
I understand how IP and netmask are use in general but do not understand how to setup /etc/inet/netmasks to offset both 10.56.120.0 & 203.20.160.0 subnetworks as well as getting different broadcasts for each.
It is necessary to just as importing to learn from this exercise as much as making the change itself. This is a production server and I must be absolutely convinced that this change will work before applying it. Past attempt has not been successful which caused unnecessary downtime.
Many thanks again,
Jack

OK I tried that.  I have two apps that need updating and it STILL shows the old Apple ID from the App store.  I even tried logging off iTunes and powering off the phone, then powering it back on and logging in.  Still shows the OLD Apple ID in the app store.  The correct one is showing in the Settings/iTunes.  Any other thoughts?

  • How to change mac address on mac

i'm sry i'm not sure if this is the right section or not but yeah.... nyways does anyone know how to change mac address on a macbook?

If you have not updated your OS you can use the following command.
    sudo ifconfig enX ether xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx
You will need to replace the X with your network number and the xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx with the mac you want to have.
    Then run
    sudo ifconfig enX down
    sudo ifconfig enX up
This change will last till your next reboot.
    cheers
NOTE: This is not working in 10.5

  • How to change mac address on time capsule

    Hi there,
How to change mac address on time capsule?

There are routers that allow you to create/clone a mac address to whatever you like. Since many companies use the mac address to 'register' a unit connected to it's system, you usually just have to let them know you've changed your router and they will reset your system to accept connections from the new device.

  • How to change billing address to another country?

how to change billing address to another country?

Before you change the country, you might want to note the following:
    1) If you have store credit, you must use the credit before you can change countries.
    2) You will need to download all purchased content. In addition, rented items must be past their 30-day expiration. For more information on rentals, please see:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1657
    3) You must provide a payment method, such as a credit or debit card associated with a valid billing address in the new country. An iTunes Store Gift Card issued in the new country is also an acceptable payment method.
    4) After you change countries, you will no longer receive application update notifications in iTunes for the apps you purchased in your original country. However, you'll still receive update notifications on your iOS device for any applications installed on it.
    5) If you have an iTunes Match subscription, you can't change countries until the subscription has expired.
    6) If you have purchased a Season Pass, you cannot change the country associated with your account until that season is done airing and the last episode of the season has been added to the iTunes Store.
    7) If you have been using iTunes in the Cloud to download past purchases from your Purchased page, these purchases will no longer appear when you change the country.
That said, you can change the country for your account using a computer using these steps:
    1) Sign in to the iTunes Store.
    2) From the Store menu, select View My Apple ID.
    3) Sign in with your Apple ID.
    4) Click Change Country or Region.
    5) Choose your new country from the menu, and click Change.
To change the country for your account using an iOS device, check out this article:

did you already change your ip and host?
if not, do the following instructions:
    * verify your hostname
    - uname -a
    - cat /etc/nodename
    both should show your hostname
    * alter your hostname
    - uname -S newname
    * verify the hostname
    - uname -a
    - cat /etc/nodename
    both should show your newname
    * edit /etc/hostname.ce0 (type ce0 depends on your net device)
    - echo 'newname' > /etc/hostname.ce0
    * verify /etc/hostname.ce0
    - cat /etc/hostname.ce0
    should show your newname
    * edit the following files
    - /etc/net/ticlts/hosts
    - /etc/net/ticots/hosts
    - /etc/net/ticotsord/hosts
    replace old with new hostname
    * edit /etc/inet/hosts
    replace ip and hostname
    * you have to look for
    - /etc/inet/networks
    - /etc/inet/netmask
    fit yout data
After doing all changes you have to reboot your system.
Use ipconfig to verify network data

  • How to change enthernet address into mac

i wana change my enther net address how i can change any one tell me .......
i have install mac os x snow leopard 10.6.8

Ok now i understand. Well, there is an easy way to do it, but it is only available for OS X 10.7and previous version, anyway here you have the link because they will support 10.8.* in a near future.
    https://github.com/halo/LinkLiar
Now, the "not so easy" way depends on your experience with terminal consoles, but anyway it is easy to do it.
    Follow this steps:
    1- Open System Preferences
    2- Open Network
3- Click on your Ethernet connection
4- Click on the Advanced... button
5- At the bottom of the window you will see your MAC address (Ethernet Address: xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx) write it down in a text file and save it, just in case you need to set it back.
    6- Open a Terminal window
7- Login as superuser (root) in your terminal by typing:
    sudo -s
If you didn't set a password for your root user then type your user password
8- Now that you are a superuser type:
    ifconfig en0 | grep ether
I am assuming that your ethernet interface is en0 because this is the Macbook Air discussion forum and that's the default interface name for the WiFi interface. The output from that command must give you a MAC address matching the one you wrote down in step 5
If you are not sure what is your ethernet interface name just type:
    ifconfig
and you will have a list of your interfaces. For me, when i connect my USB LAn adapter it is en2, you must check yours, and then just change everything that says en0 in these steps to your interface name.
9- Now turn off your ethernet interface by typing:
    ifconfig en0 down
10- And now let's change the MAC address by typing:
    ifconfig en0 ether your:new:mac:address
11- Turn back on your ethernet interface by typing:
    ifconfig en0 up
12- Check that you have your desired MAC address:
    ifconfig en0 | grep ether
    And that's all
I'm not sure if this change will be permanent or if your MAC address will be rolled back to default after reboot. But now you now how to check it.
    Good luck

You may not have to change your Private IPs (let's say 10.10.10.x) because these are your interconnect addresses and are "private" to the RAC nodes...

  • How to CHANGE (in a permanent way) FONT (and SIZE) in Finder columns ?

    Hello dear friends,
How I can change the font (and also its size) of text in Finder Window columns ?
A condensed font would allow seeing more text (for example, Helvetica Condensed Light).
Does anybody have an idea ?
Thank you very much for responding.
    With my kind regards
    Olivier Herrbach
*PS : I also posted this topic :*
    *How can I increase/change (in a permanent way) column(s) width(s) in Finder window ?*
I always have to CTRL-click at the bottom of columns to resize them,
and I have to do it every time a new Finder window opens …
*It's the same problem, as I need to see and read more text.*
I think I'm not alone to wish that …

How I can change the font (and also its size) of text in Finder Window columns?
Sorry, you can't. Apple provides no method of changing the system font away from Lucida Grande. TinkerTool will let you change some fonts, but only affects applications written in Cocoa. It cannot change the system font.
How can I increase/change (in a permanent way) column(s) width(s) in Finder window?
Hold down the Command+Option keys. Click and hold the mouse button on the bottom of any column where you see the little double vertical lines. Drag left or right to change all columns at once to the same size. I'm pretty sure this is on a window by window basis, so you'd have to do it for each one you want to change, including open and save dialogue boxes. But once set, that window will remember your settings.

  • Apple Airport Express: How To Change IP Address While in Bridge Mode

Hello, I have a Apple Airport Express router and it has been good for a few years. Just wondering how to change my public IP address. I am also in Bridge mode to a cisco router. Also I am on a Windows 8 computer and this is mainly what I want to change the ip for.

Power cycle the cable modem.. I presume that is what the cisco router is.. your modem.. if not tell us precise model and make of the modem.
The public IP is not changed by you.. it is changed by your ISP.. normally if you power cycle the modem on a dynamic system you will get a new IP.. if not call the ISP and request them to make a change.
It is never really necessary unless you got banned from a site.
I am on a Windows 8 computer and this is mainly what I want to change the ip for.
There is no logical link to needing a new public IP to being on a windows 8 computer.
    Explain more about your problem.
