How to change local file Permissions as a default

I have a mavericks Imac with certian permissions on a folder. when users copy and paste the folder on a server for others to use, some users are not able to acess the files.I know how to change the permissions on the folder manually. But I want to know if there is a way to make my own default permissions to stick with the profile for making new folders?
I have looked into booting to an OS CD and choosing default permissions for files and folders, but I dont see how that will change anything, becuase I don't need to reset the permissions, i need to be able to give access to certian users automaticaly.
any ideas?

Sounds like you are not using ACLs.  When you double click your share point in Server.app, how many entries do you have in the Permissions window?  If you have only 3 then you are not using ACLs which explains why your permissions are not inheriting.  POSIX permissions, the base three of owner, group, and everyone, do not inherit.  You need to add at least one more permission entry to the table.  This is called an ACE (access control entry).  Together, you are building an ACL (access control list).  Try not to use users.  Always add groups if possible as it is easier to manage and never requires propagation of the permissions.

  • How to set all file permissions to default?

    So a few background notes are in order. I came across an article on the NSA's website titled Hardening Tips for Mac OS x 10.6 "Snow Leopard", needless to say I have come to believe I have made this irreversible. The NSA suggested to do some fancy command line coding to disable this, modify that, and change permissions to this. After hours spent on "hardening" my system, I have little hair left to pull in frustration. Is there any way to restore all file permissions back to default? I have used the Repair Disk Permissions, but that has done very little. To give the scope of what permissions have been skewed, I have observed several things:
    The desktop wallpapers, on all Desktops (as I'm in Lion 10.7.3), start from the same picture every time. I have the wallpapers changing, randomly, every 5 minutes.
    Safari doesn't keep the home page. No matter how often I try to change the homepage, I restart Safari, and I'm right back to the original homepage.
    Firefox doesn't retain the fact that I want it to be the default Web Browser. In fact, it keeps "forgetting" that I've used it before, and thus brings me to their awesome start page whenever someone first uses Firefox.
    Spotlight gets "stuck" i.e. almost every time I start my machine, it indexes. Even after I let it finish indexing, the next time I start my computer, it starts again.
    I have to input the administrator password after almost every activity, such as copying to the desktop, moving an application not bought from the Mac App Store into the /Applications folder, deleting a file from anywhere inside my home folder, etc.
    Some preference panes that need access to certain folders, such as Hazel's access to my desktop, are denied that access without ever prompting me for a password (though even if it did, it would get rather annoying after every startup)
    My firewall (in System Preferences>Security & Privacy>Firewall) doesn't "remember" that I do indeed want Dropbox to accept incoming connections. I have to input my admin password at each startup after clicking "allow"
    Opera pretty much doesn't function. Its bookmarking capability, home page, saved tabs, any thing that requires the saving of any type of preference to the computer results in a dialog pop up informing me that Opera failed to save what it needed, and prompts me to "Try again" or "Cancel" (hint: the "Try again" button doesn't work)
    There are more symptoms of an ever growing problem.
    I have backed up my machine from Time Machine, but I think it retains these file permissions, unless I'm wrong.
    Summary:
    How can I fully restore EVERY file permission back to default? Repair Disk Permissions doesn't work
    Is there a way that I can re-install Mac OS X, restore through Time Machine, and achieve the default file permissions, essentially losing all file permissions?

    Repairing the permissions of a home folder in Lion is a complicated procedure. I don’t know of a simpler one that always works.
    Launch the Terminal application by entering the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Drag or copy – do not type – the following line into the window, then press return:
    chmod -R -N ~
    If you get an error message about permissions, enter this:
    sudo !!
    You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up.
    Next, boot from your recovery partition by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
    When the recovery desktop appears, select Utilities ▹ Terminal from the menu bar.
    In the Terminal window, enter “resetpassword” (without the quotes) and press return. A Reset Password window opens.
    Select your boot volume if not already selected.
    Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
    Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select  ▹ Restart from the menu bar.

    While the steps below are fine for Word (and I gather that Excel, Powerpoint have similar steps), what
    about Project 2007?  We have Project 2007 SP3, and (a) it doesn't have an Office Button like the core Office 2007 products, and (b) the SharePoint Local Drafts folder isn't listed in the Save options.  Please advise!

    Hi,
    You can change the location of your local drafts folder where your files are placed while they are
    checked out to you in Office system program: click “Microsoft Office Button”>select “Word Options”>select “Save”>in
    Offline editing options for document management server files> in Server drafts location
    box, type the location on your hard disk where you want to work with checked-out files, or click
    Browse and find the location.

  • Changing WRP file permissions with a GPO

    I would like to set my domain workstations so that users are not able to launch regedit.exe, only administrators. Is there a way to set file permissions with a GPO where TrustedInstaller is still the owner and the file permissions are TrustedInstaller defaults
    minus users? As soon as I push these manually defined settings via GPO, it completely breaks regedit.exe, and I get an access denied when I try to run it (even as local administrator).
    Is there another way to deny domain and local users from launching regedit.exe (or any other WRP  file) and only allow SYSTEM and Administrators access through TrustedInstaller?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
    Is there another way to deny domain and local users from launching regedit.exe (or any other WRP  file) and only allow SYSTEM and Administrators access through TrustedInstaller?
    To achieve your goal, please enable this group policy Don't run specified Windows applications which is under User Configuration\Policies\Administrative Templates\System.
    You can input “regedit.exe” within the group policy to prevent specific domain users from open regedit.exe. Those users will get a message as below when they trying to open regedit.exe:

  • How to change sharing and permissions access on an Excel Version 14.4.3 (140616) file

    I've created several Excel (from Office:Mac 2011) files on my MapPro; the are on the 'backup' drive (not the main drive).  When accessing the 'get info' menu on the file, it shows that I can read and write; but if I open the file, the file name indicates it is read only, and attempts to save changes result in a message that requires a new name for the file.  What can I do to change the read/write restriction so I can make changes without having to constantly rename the file with the changed information included?

  • Lost WYSIWYG Structure - Changed local file structure ... how to recover?

    Using DreamWeaver. New Computer, my old "local" file was C:/RTMM now the new local file address is E:/Websites/RTMM/ ... my WYSIWYG has no images or css formatting, it is not "seeing" the files.  How can I get all those links to point to the correct file location? Is there a "universal" way to re-point them?
    Thank you
    Doug Linn

    Can I safely assume you're working with PHP files?
    If so, you need a local testing server like Wamp, Xampp or Mamp installed on your system and defined in DW.  Screenshots below depict my setup on Wamp server.  The default web folder in wamp is www.  On mamp or xampp it would be htdocs.

  • How can I repair file permissions?

    Greetings!
    Recently I get this warning when I do a File Permissions Repair with help of Distools:
    `Warning: SUID File `System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDagentApp/Contents/MacOS/ARDage nt` is changed and cannot be repaired.
    I did a few attempts to repair this file permission by hand and also used Onyx to repair this but when my Mac had a restart are the permissions again change to `only read` and do I get the same Warning.
    Shall I just let it be? Or what can I do to change this?
    With kind regards,
    Silvia

    That warning is on this list http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1448 and as per Apple can be safely ignored.

  • How to change the file name of pdf file in html page?

    Hi,
    Actually my requirement is to upload 50 PDF files containing javascript in each file into flex page with the help of one html page.
    i did the the javascript part by using batch processing.
    now i want to call those pdf files one after another without changing the file name in html page
    the code written in html page is
    <html>
        <body>
            <object id="PDFObj"
                    data="http:\\localhost\pdf\20090807 - Batch 630.pdf"
                    type="application/pdf"
                    width="100%"
                    height="100%">
            </object>
            </body>
    </html>
    So every time i have to change that file name to acess another file.
    Is there is any other way to sort this problem????
    Plz anyone help me to sort out this problem with some code or some example.

    I once had a similar task for creating a webpage that I only use on my computer--a webpage that accesses PDF's and SWF's font previews from a list of fonts as "a href's".  What you must do is utilize the power of the command line, whether on a Mac on a PC or on Linux, Linux being the most powerful (although Mac IS Unix).  You must utilize variables, variable replacement, and then a command to print out the results of a "for" or "while" loop to a text file which will be your HTML file with each individual link automatically built into the HTML code.  You will have a list of 50 links.  If you are simply looking for a GOOGLE type functionality where you click on "Next" and "Previous" you will have to dig deeper into variable replacement--this I don't know how to do yet but there are books for command-line shell interpreters.  One shell interpreter is called "bash" (born-again shell) and there is a book on the market which gives a detailed example of how to replace variables in a shell script.  Again, I don't know how it works.  I will try to learn this at a later time when I am more seasoned with the basics of shell scripting.

    the understandable name.

    Hi,
    As you know archived log is create when online log is switch. Archived log size might be maximum equal to online redo log size.
    Because archived log size is copied from online redo log file, if you want change archived redo log size, then you must change online redo log size.
    But you must think, what is advantages and disadvantages of change of online redo log size, it depends direct task LGWR process.
    You can change archived redo log name with change LOG_ARCHIVE_FORMAT parameter.
