How to change startup disk for a 2012 Mac mini with dual HDD and clean installed with Windows 8.1?

Hi,
I have a Mac-mini (late 2012 model), originally with Mac OS X Maverick Server installed (with two HDD). Recently, I had clean installed Windows 8.1 on one of the HDD (worked perfectly, just slow) and swapped the other HDD (with Mac OSX) with a SSD. I then cloned the Windows OS HDD in to the new SSD. Now I am trying to boot this Mac mini from this SSD, however, since this Mac mini do not have BIOS for me to change the boot sequence at the startup, is there any one can help?
Thank you,
Liusc

If you boot with the Option key depressed what boot options are shown?
Also:
Restart your computer
After Windows is installed, you can switch between OS X and Windows. Use the Startup Disk preference pane in OS X, or the Boot Camp system tray item in Windows to select your startup disk, then restart your computer

No disk-version of Lion, but a Lion Thumb Drive http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD256
For the downloaded OSX Lion form the Mac App Store you can use this http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/39701/lion-diskmaker to make yourself a disk.

  • I have a late 2012 mac mini with an i5 2 core can I replace it with an i7 quad core?

I have a late 2012 mac mini with an i5 2 core can I replace it with an i7 quad core?

A few places online may still offer the i7 2.3GHz quad-core Late 2012 MINI (Oct 2012 to Oct 2014)
that allows the user-upgrade of RAM to 16GB, and this one I've seen is a Server model and has
two 1-TB Hard Disk Drives. The B&H store in NY online has this listed, if in stock now, price &
shipping in continental US is good until tomorrow.
Your i5 dual-core is still desirable to many, & you may be able to resell it if not needed.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Can I use my early 2009 iMac as a display for a 2012 Mac Mini

If I buy a new 2012 Mac Mini, 2.6Ghz can I use my existing iMac (early 2009 - 24inch) as a display or do I have to go and purchase separate display ?
If the answer is yes, can someone explain what leads I would need to buy and if there are any disadvantages to doing this.

The short answer is no.  If it was a late 2009 you could.
The long answer is you could possibly use it via Screen Sharing,
Apple Remoter Desktop, or other VPN type of network display mirroring.
Redraws depending on the software being run won't be all that great
but could suffice for general purpose use.
You will however have to have a monitor to do at least the initial
    setup of the Mini.

  • 2012 Mac mini with 27" DP and TB external drive?

    Hi,
I'm about to purchase a 2012 Mac mini and wanted to use the thunderbolt port to run a laci external drive for backups etc.
I currently have the 2010 Mac mini which plugs into a 27" Cinema Display (non thunderbolt).
What options do I have to continue to use the Cinema Display via the thunderbolt port, and run the external dive as well?
Is there such a thing as a thunderbolt splitter?
    Regards
    Jonathan

You need to know what to search for in google in order to use it.
So seems there thunderbolt hubs (as per the link posted) but they're mostly rubbish.
Also buying a Thunderbolt Display is not an option.
Seems I'll have to wait for one of the better hubs to be released. The ones out currently aren't up to scratch (according to google).
    Thanks anyway

  • How do change file format for videos to be compatible with iDVD?

My husband's uncle sent us several short files of video he took with his camera or cell phone, and I really want to burn them onto a DVD using iDVD.  When I drag one of the files into the program, however, it says "your last action is not supported by iDVD."  All the other videos in my iPhoto works, so I'm guessing it's the wrong type of file.  Does anyone know how to change to file type so it's iDVD compatible?  Right now the files are ".MOV."  The one I have that are ".AVI" seem to work just fine.  Any insight is appreciated!!
    Thanks!

You need to convert those files to something iMovie can handle, like DV, before bringing them into iDVD.
    For that you need mpegStreamclip:
    http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html
which is free, but you must also have the  Apple mpeg2 plugin :

  • Message comes up on startup: You are unable to log in to the user account "terry" at this time. Logging in to the account failed because an error occurred.  This is a late 2012 mac mini with a 64g SSD and 1 Gig hard drive installed.  Help please!

As in title.  I have tried resetting the password. Nothing works to get me past this problem.  The computer was working fine before this happened.

I have just purchased this mini and it was wiped to a virtual new unit.  I have done an install of the OS up to 10.9.5 and then installed my purchased software that is stored on iTunes through wifi.  The computer was working fine although sometimes a bit slow.  I have it set up with the SSD as the program drive and the 1T drive for data which I have no files on it yet.  I am the only account on the computer so cannot log in on another account.  I booted up holding the Alt key and then used the restore drive which brought up the Utilities window.  I then opened Terminal and typed in "resetpassword" and then closed out and restarted the computer.  It seems to recognize my new password but still gives me the same message as above.
I do have an Apple OS system 10.7 on USB if that needs to be used to reinstall the OS to fix the problem. Thanks for taking the time to help me with this problem.

  • Slow boot up on 2012 Mac mini with DIY fusion drive

Hello everyone, I bought a Mac mini (2012) 2 months ago with a stock 500GB HDD.
I added another SSD to make a DIY fusion drive, and everything is working fine, except that I'm experiencing a very slow boot up.
I have confirmed both by information from the OS and some tests with command line tools, that the fusion drive itself is a success and absolutely working fine.
The slow boot up happens on cold boot only (a reboot does not have such problem).
Symptom: the Mac mini is stuck on the gray blank screen for about 40 seconds, and then finally shows up the apple logo.
Everything after this is pretty fast and fine.
I have tried the following methods and none of them seems to help:
    1. Go Preferences -> Startup Disk, select the Machintosh HD. (Suggested by Apple in the Fusion Drive FAQ)
    2. Verify the whole disk along with the partition with Disk Utility.
    3. Reset NVRAM by holding Command+Option+P+R during boot up.
    4. Reset SCM/PMU.
Does anyone have an idea on the cause of my problem?
    Best regards and thank you.

If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes) in the search box. Note the timestamps of those log messages, which refer to the times when the system was booted. Now clear the search box and scroll back in the log to the last boot time when you had the problem. Select the messages logged after the boot, during the time something abnormal was happening. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
For example, if the problem is a slow startup taking three minutes, post the messages timestamped within three minutes after the boot time, not before. Please include the BOOT_TIME message at the beginning of the log extract.
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
Still in Console, look under System Diagnostic Reports for crash or panic logs, and post the entire contents of the most recent one, if any. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

  • New 2012 Mac mini with HD 1080p support ?

has the new Mac mini full HD support on his HDMI port including 1080p and DTS HD ?

How is it look like after your display calibration? check with http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/contrast.php
Could u see the difference of all levels? If it is not able to tell the difference, the colors has not been fixed yet.

I think I have almost exact same problem with the exact same Mac Mini model on the same (single) monitor via HDMI output (my monitor is Samsung S24B300HL, not sure if the HL makes any difference).
Running Display Calibraton fixed the colours for me, but the text looks fuzzy not matter what I do. I have tried:
Turning LCD Font Smoothing on and Off (different but not better)
Changing the AppleSmoothFont variable via Terminal (different but only slightly better)
Changing monitor setting from PC to TV (made things worse, lots of overscan)
Adjusting settings on the monitor itself (sharpness at around 60 looks best but still not good).
Interestingly, connecting via Thunderbolt to HDMI instead (cable purchased especially to try and work around this issue) did not actually improve things for me, although it is good for you - I wonder if the fact that I used HDMI first has caused the mini to "lock" in certain settings to use with this monitor? I will give it another go later, see if I can make it "forget" and get the same result as you.
Same monitor with my 5 year old Windows PC - looks great, pin sharp. Based on internet searches so far, lots of people seem to be reporting issues with HDMI on Mac Mini.
Overall, a poor experience thus far with my first Mac :-(

  • Late 2012 Mac mini with OSX 10.8.2 has started shutting down instead of going into sleep mode.

Sometime in the last week or so my mac mini has started going into full shut down instead of sleep mode.
I have tried checking and unchecking energy saver boxes but haven't found anything which will get me back to where I used to be - and I haven't knowingly changed anything to make this happen.- maybe an OS update caused it?
The machine will fire up with a tablet click rather than needing the reset button to be pushed so clearly the machine is sort of halfway between sleep and full 'off'. Most frustrating as one of the key issues for me in getting this my first mac was its easy sleep and super quick fire up compared to windows.
    Any help appreciated
Oh yes  I just remembered that I did just install 2 8gb of crucial RAM (to replace the supplied 2 2gb but surely that can't have anything to do with it - can it)?

Adding to my first post I can now advise that when the mac goes into sleep mode the light on the front stays on (it does not pulse so clearly it is not really sleeping).
When i click the tablet / keyboard this is actually what triggers the mac to reboot
I have tried resetting the SMC as per the following link to no avail
