How to change the frequency of time machine back ups

Time machine backs up every hour. And it takes several minutes. I don't need to back up that often. Once a day is fine. But I don't see any way to set the frequency of back ups.

There are a number of applications that can be installed to set different time schedules for TM. I have not provided links as I know nothing about them.
If you do a web search on the title of your post you should find them.

  • How do I change the frequency of Time Machine backups?

Time Machine backs up far to often for me.  I think it slows my computer down when it is backing up.
There must be a way to change the frequency

So far I have not seen Time Machine cause any slow down on my Macs nor have I seen it on any Mac for the users I help to support.
I suggest you download and install EtreCheck from http://etresoft.com/etrecheck
Run EtreCheck and publish report here

  • How do I restrict the size of Time Machine Back ups?

I have a WD 500GB FW external drive which I use to store Sample Libraries for Logic Pro. I also use the same drive for Time Machine.
I now realise that I really needed to set up a partition to restrict the size of Time Machine BackUp's.
Is there any way of doing this now without having to reformat the drive and then setting up partitions, as this would delete my sample audio files.
I was thinking of getting a second 500GB hard drive & daisy chaining them then creating alias's and moving my sample audio files to the new drive and leaving the existing one purely for TM backup's.
Is, as I think it may be, this second option the better method?

Disk Utility in Leopard can create a new partition without erasing the disk (of course you can't expect to make the existing partition smaller than the files it currently contains). You would then have the existing files on one partition and the new one would be blank, so you would have to move either the Libraries or the TM backup (I'm not sure whether you can do the latter without confusing TM).
Two separate drives would give you more overall space, and should work fine.

  • How to change the Finder and Time machine Icons

Hi, wondered how you change these icons as the usual method of just copying and pasting the image in does not work.  Would also like to not have to download an app to be able to do this if possible.
    Thanks.

I do not think the FINDER icon can be changed.  I have seen software that allows you to change the appearance of external HHDs, but I do not know if that is possible with Time Machine.  If I were a betting man I would say no.
    Ciao.

How do I change backup frequency for time machine?

You have met the infamous User Account Number issue, which causes denied access to previous user accounts.
A simple install creates a user account with a number, usually 501.  If you use Setup Assistant at this point, to bring across your data from the previous OS, it will have the same number and access between the two is ok.  If you wait and use Migration Assistant later, it creates a new user account, say with number 502. Now this account can't access the original data.
You can see this number in System Preferences>Users & Groups.  Right click on your account name and go into Advanced Options.  DON"T CHANGE ANYTHING.
Look at Pondini's guide for a second chance to use setup assistant...

  • How to change the frequency of pulse train on the fly using an array of values?

    Hi all!
First I want to thank U for the great job you are doing for this forum.
Iam still busy trying to control a stepper motor, by sending pulses from my E-series 6024 to a compumotor s6- stepper Driver. I've managed to get it working. I desperately need to control the motor using the values from an array. I believe we can use two approaches for that:
1st - I can get an array of the "numbers of pulses". Each element must run for 10 milliseconds. Using that we can calculate the array of frequencies to send the number of pulses within 10 milliseconds for each specific element. Could we use the arrays of "number of pulses" and frequencies in a "finite pulse train " and up
date with each element every 10 millisecond?
2nd - Or Could we use of the frequency array in a "continuous pulse train vi" and update it every 10 milliseconds?
Please note that I must use the values as they are.
Can someone please built a good example for me? Your help will be appreciated.
    Regards
    Chris

    Tiano,
I will try to better explain the paragraph on LabVIEW. The original paragraph reads ...
"While in a loop for continuous pulse train generation, make two calls to Counter Set Attribute.vi to set the values for "pulse spec 1" (constant 14) and "pulse spec 2" (constant 15). Following these calls you would make a call to Counter Control.vi with the control code set to "switch cycle" (constant 7). The attached LabVIEW programs demonstrate this flow."
You can make two calls to Counter Set Attribute or you can make a call to Set Pulse Specs which, if you open this VI, you will see that it is just making two calls to Counter Set Attribute. What you are doing with the Counter Set Attribute VIs is setting two registers called "pulse s
pec 1" and "pulse spec 2". These two registers are used to configure the frequency and duty cycle of your output frequency.
The example program which is attached to this Knowledge Base demonstrates how to change the frequency of a continuous generation on the fly. Why continuous? Because changing the frequency of a finite train would be easy. When the train completes it's finite generation you would just change the frequency and run a finite train again. You would not care about the time delay due to reconfiguration of the counter.
If you would like to change the frequency of the pulse train using a knob, this functionality will have to be added in the while loop. The while loop will be continuously checking for the new value of the knob and using the knob value to set the pulse specs.
LabVIEW is a language, and as with learning all new languages (spoken or programatic) there is a lot of learning to be accomplished. The great thing is that LabVIEW is much easier than mo
st languages and the learning curve should be much smaller. Don't fret, you'll be an expert before you know it. Especially since you're tackling a challenging first project.

  • How to change the frequency of a finite pulse train?

Hi all? I Know I’ve asked once a similar question, but I need a better answer. I would like some ideas or examples on how to modify the example in LV; "Finite Pulse Train Generation - Intermediate for AM9513-Based Devices",so that the frequency can be changed while the VI is executing.
Will i have any problem with I use this VI in a DAQ-STC-Based Devices(E-series)?

  • I am trying to move previous Time Machine back ups off an external drive to my new Time Capsule. How do I do that?

I have my previous time machine back ups on an external drive and I want to move those to my new 2tb Time Capsule. How can I make this happen?

    You probably cannot do it..
The backup is very different from a local drive to a network drive.
    Look through the Pondini KB.
    http://pondini.org/TM/FAQ.html
You can move the backup from a local to another local disk or network to another network.. but there are issues even doing that.
IMHO.. don't... just start a new backup and keep what you already have saved up.. if you don't need it in 6months time.. or a year.. then you can wipe it.

  • I have 2 macbooks each with an account for me and one for my wife. I use one Macbook logged in with my account and my wife uses the other Macbook only loged in on her account. We both make regular time-machine back-ups each on a separate external disk

I have 2 Macbooks each with an account for me and one for my wife. I use one Macbook logged in with my account and my wife uses the other Macbook only logged in on her account. We both make regular time-machine back-ups each on a separate external disk. Is it possible to update her account on my macbook using her external disk without overwriting my stuff on the same Macbook and vice versa?

Time Machine does not do individual accounts. It records the complete drive. So if you were to use her TM backup on your Mac it would make your Mac just like hers. Both yours and her account on your MAC.
Just copy the missing files over from her Mac to yours. If there are differennt programs on each then they would need to be installed on both.

  • I had to reformat my OSX 10.5.8 and i can't restore my emails from my time machine backup from an external hard drive - only the latest (post backup) time machine back ups are available to restore. Please can any help

I had to reformat my OSX 10.5.8 and I can't restore my emails from my time machine backup from an external hard drive - only the latest (post backup) time machine back ups are available to restore. Please can any help? I can find the mail folder in my libraries, but the Restore Button is grayed out

OSX treats the reformatted drive as a different one; it's the same as replacing it, and the old one is no longer connected.
See #E3 in  Time Machine - Troubleshooting to see and restore from the "old" drive.
And, you may not want to restore via the Finder; see the blue box in #15 of  Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions.

  • How do I delete Time-Machine back-ups on external HD

Hello everybody, I would like to delete all the Time Machine back-ups on my external hard drive and create a new full back-up.  This is because after several months my HDD is quickly filling up and I would like to clean out all the old back-ups.  What is the best way to do this?  Sould I simply delete the old back-ups through finder, or is there another and better way to do this?  Many thanks for your help!
