How to change the way VLC starts up
I have installed VLC via pacman, I would simply like to change it so it runs all the time with
vlc --control lirc
For example I have changed it in thunar when I open video files, it's fine, but some programs call the binary itself automatically (like extensions in Firefox) so it will open as "vlc".
How can I do this? My VLC is in /usr/bin/vlc. I hope that's clear

I think apps that start VLC for you call some sort of "exec" statement that is interpreted by your login shell. Maybe the <shell>rc (e.g. ~/.bashrc) is sourced before interpreting the statement. If so, you could define an alias: "vlc -> vlc --control lirc".
Maybe VLC provides some config files where you can store your favourite settings?
(sry, don't use VLC and am at work on not linux right now... but these are the things I would try!)

Hallo,
I have connected an USB drive to AE and I have previously formatted it using Mac OS extended journaled.
To have it protected on the network I have enabled document share and I have selected "using password for the disk".
Now I would like to change such option to "using account" but when I try to do that, Airport Utility warns me about the fact that I will lost access to documents on the disk. And this stops me because I have time machine backup on it and some other files.
Is there any way to swith to other protections without lost access to documents stored on it?
Or can I do something different to change permissions?

Ages ago I changed the way my dock loads up so that Mail and Flock would load up on start up. I now want to change this back, however I cannot remember how the **** to do it lol.

If you want it to start on start up... Hit the apple menu, system preferneces, accounts
Click on your account then click login items at the top, then click the + sign and add whichever application(s) you want.

You have some choices available by clicking and holding on the stack for a second, and there are five sorting orders to choose from.
I picked up a tip to create an empty folder and place it in the stack, give it a fancy icon and name it 0. Then by choosing the sort order as name, that fancy icon is always at the front. -
The new version of the software for my iPhone 4 changed the way text messages are managed.
I can no longer delete individual texts from a text "conversation." I also have not figured out how to forward texts, which I was able to do in the prior version.
Anyone know a way to edit out individual messages without losing the entire string?
Anyone know if there is a way to forward messages?When you have the conversation open, if you tap & hold on a message bubble, you should get a new menu pop-up. It should have 2 options "Copy" and "More..." If you select the "More..." option it will then let you select one or more message bubbles and delete the selected ones by hitting the trach can icon in the lower left corner. As for forwarding, you probably just select the "Copy" option, then paste the contents into a new message...

How to change the default sorting in iTunes
Hi,
Does anyone know how to change the default sorting method for all items in iTunes? I use the third option for organizing the library as a whole (the one that has a list of icons for bands that you double click to show only that band's songs). The only sorting method I use is to sort by Album by Year (ascending), this makes the most sense to me. I can tell that iTunes is attempting to remember when I do this for certain artists, but it epically fails at maintaining this sorting pattern.
To be clear, say I open Radiohead and click through to have it sort with the above method. Everything works great, but when I return a few days later to play Radiohead again, the sorting is not maintained. It could be as simple as sorting in a descending direction, or could even be trying to sort by the number it was added in my library.
I'd really appreciate it if someone knew of a way (maybe even through scripts if possible / the only solution) to eliminate this problem and have every (NOT just the artists who I've told iTunes to sort a specific way) artist sort that way.
I don't know if my copy is just corrupt? It may be, since for some artists it's started playing them in the above mentioned order they were added to my library even if I force a sort by album by year (i.e. it will go from playing a 2007 album to a 2002 album and not the 2008 album).
Thanks!Andrew, I know I am extremely late to the party but I too use Grid View. I had the same problem that you had but have found this to work for me. I used it and it is still holding as my default sorting even after switching between the Artist page and Grid View.
Once you are inside of the Artist page continue to click on the Album column until it shows Album by Artist/Year.
That will give you each album sorted by the year instead of it randomly sorting it for you each time you leave an Artist's page and then back again.

How to change the storage location in Lightroom 3.6.?
I use my internal hard drive NTFS of my MacBook Pro as my storage location of Lightroom 3.6. being installed in Snow Leopard now but the data of my photos get too big now. I have two fast and big external hard drives eSATA now which I want to use for my data/photos. I know how to copy the data from one hard drive to another but I don't know how to change the settings in connection with Lightroom easily. I still want to watch all fotos on my MacBook Pro but don't want to save any fotos on my internal harddrive any more. Isn't it possible to have the programm Lightroom on my internal harddrive but the data on two times on two different extermal hard drives? If I look at Lightroom - settings of catalogue - I see that the internal harddrive location is my storage location now but I my two external harddrives don't appear as folders. Why? How to change that so that the external hard drives appear in Lightroom and I can watch all my fotos immediately (sometimes using external hard drive 1 and sometimes using external hard drive 2)?
My external hard drives are in HFS+ but I use the software of Paragon so that there shouldn't be any problem to read and write the data (I use also Final Cut Express so my external hard drives are HFS+ and not NTFS).
I want to impert many data from CDs - should I copy the fotos first to my external hard drive and then import it into Lightroom or is it easier to import the data directly from the CD in Lightroom so that I don't have to name the folders two times?
I see that I have to sort the fotos from the CDs in new different folders and an used to do that in Finder of my MacBookPro. In Lightroom I don't want have to click each of hundreds of fotos to be able to put it into the right folders ... But how to import only a part of a CDs quickly into the right (newly created) folders?

I would NOT do this. I would not change the file name.
I would add keywords and other metadata to the photos to identify the content of the photos, and from that point on, I would use keywords and other metdata to search for these photos.
However, let's look at the big picture. I think there are three different methods of organizing

You can choose any one of the three methods above, the choice is yours. I am a very strong believer that for most people (and it sounds like you are one of those people), method 1 is the best method. However, not everyone agrees.
There are drawbacks to using file names to identify your photos. One big drawback is that you must type the information into each photo's name, and this is more tedious than if you wanted to assign the keyword "mountain" to the photos, you can assign the keyword to multiple photos at once. Also, if you mis-spell the information in the file name on any photo, you have just made the photo much harder to find; whereas in Lightroom, the keyword can be assigned via a mouse click (so you can't mis-spell it), or by typing the first few letters and Lightroom (auto-fill) will find the correct keyword name. So using keywords is a much simpler way to go.

It is very simple to add keywords, as I explained for this case. Create keywords "Austria", "Mountain", "Valley"; then select the desired photos, and then click on the check box next to the keyword name. It is much more complicated in my opinion to rename the photos in this manner.
There is less danger in doing this via keywords than the danger doing this via file names, because of potential mis-spellings.
If I spend a lot of time in editing photos (in Lightroom or Photoshop) I don't want that I loose those photos f.i. later if Lightroom won't be the software I use regarding the photos (in 10, 20 years?!)
Lightroom will OPTIONALLY write your keywords and other metadata to the files (or sidecar files in the case of RAW). Every photographic application I know of (and I'm sure those in the future) can read the keywords and other metadata. So if you ever want to switch to some other software, your keywords and other metadata are available. you can turn this option on via Edit->Catalog Settings->Metadata, check Automatically Write Changes to XMP.
So I have to create two folders - one with the originals and one with the edited exported photos?
No, you do not have to create two folders. You don't have to export everything, but if you do, you can put the exports wherever you want, including putting them in the same folder as the originals, with different name.
Why not edit them in Photoshop and save them in the second folder which I import later in Lightroom? Because it takes longer?

If your goal is to edit the photos in Photoshop, and then put them in folders with whatever custom name you want to give them, then what is the benefit of using Lightroom? You can do all of this WITHOUT Lightroom. You keep explaining that your intended goal is to use Photoshop and folders/file names, and this is a goal which AVOIDs all benefits of Lightroom. I can't understand what you think the benefits of using Lightroom are for you.
It is starting to sound to me like Lightroom is not the right software for you.
Some people want to see a movie on their TV and are able to watch a DVD (not all!). Flickr seems to be a solution for movies in a big size (many GBs) to share them with friends (?)
You haven't mentioned this before, and you should check the rules on Flickr regarding how long a video you can upload. -

This is not quite ideal as I want to change the parser for the whole server and not just one application and besides, If I cant start the server, I will not be able to change the parser for an application anyway. I say this because the default xml parser (xmlparserV2.jar) throws an exeception if you try to use it with Spring 3.0 i.e.

I have found a way to change the xml parser for my application and NOT the xml parser for the server. I followed the instructions here http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/java/oc4j/1013/how_to/how-to-swapxmlparser/doc/readme.html. In the end, I had to settle for changing the xml parser of my application(i.e. It uses its a custom parser e.g. xerces not the default OC4J parser i.e. xmlparserV2) and not the xml parser for OC4J because it was near impossible to change the xml parser for OC4J and besides, as the OC4J default parser(xmlparserV2) works well with the server and not my application, it made more sense to change the parser for my application (changed to Xerces) and not OC4J. Hope this helps someone else who may come across a similar problem. -

I want the header to be displayed in Bold with Underline to it.

It does not work this way. You have to use a content editor webpart.
