How to change the white balance in Final Cut Pro?

What is the best way to change the white balance in Final Cut Pro? I have some clips which are to green. I would like if possible something which might resemble the Camera Raw dialogue in Photoshop. Any way of measuring color (RGB values)?

There is some specific help in this trainng book:
http://www.amazon.com/Apple-Pro-Training-Correction-Studio/dp/0321635280/
When using Color Corrector 3-Way to correct for a green tint, the bullet points are something like this:
1) After loading the clip into the Viewer and applying the CC3W filter to the clip, open your scopes and move the window so you can see the Viewer (with the CC3W tab open) and the scopes
2) First, if necessary, adjust the white and black levels using the video level sliders below the white and black color wheels (I use the slider above the scopes to make the trace in th4 scopes as bright as it will go without blooming)
3) Looking at the Parade scope, the idea is to balance the whites, mids, and blacks on each color display (red, green and blue). So you watch the Parade and drag the dot that is in the center of each color wheel (starting with the whites) away from the color of your tint (in your case, green). Drag the dot until the highest portions in all three Parade displays are as even as you can make them
4) Then do the same with the mids, using the Mids color wheel, moving its dot away from green
5) Do the same thing with the blacks
6) Double check the image on an external video display that is properly adjusted using color bars from Final Cut
NOTE: This short reply is not sufficient to fully explain this technique, and you really need to understand Color Theory before doing this anyway. That's why I recommended the training book.

How do use the hum remover in final cut pro 5? Help!!

Simply drop the effect onto the appropriate audio track. Set the frequency for the hum frequency (50Hz or 60Hz depending on your power supply). Include whichever harmonics you think might be present eg. 100, 150, 200Hz.
Note that I have generally had more success by using Soundtrack Pro's noise removal tool.

    Hey.
I have a small crisis. Hope someone can help as quickly as possible?! Thank you
I'm working on my bachelor project, and has borrowed a Panasonic HPX 170, and will cut in Final Cut Pro 7. Now I have all the files on a hard drive, and they are MFX files.
    - How do I get them into FCP?
Many thanks for all your help!

    Thanks
But what if the clips are already on my iMac via the hard disk? What you write, is through the camera right?

Hi, I'm new to FCP. I'm using the Final Cut Pro 7 and my video camera is Sony SR1e in AVCHD format 1440 x 1080i. Can someone help me to choose the best codec for project setup? Also is the codec setting for transfering video must match the setting for the sequence? Thank you!

  • How do I change the aspect ratio on Final Cut Pro X?

Whenever I upload new media (regardless of what ratio it was filmed in) it plays in letterbox format. I would like to change the aspect ratio to 16:9. Thanks.

Please open the clip in the QT player and post a screen shot of the movie inspector. Post a screen **** of what you're seeing in the viewer.

  • How to retrieve the Audio/Video link (final cut pro hd 5)

Hi there, and sorry for my misknowledgement of this soft.
I'd like to know if it's possible once we have delete the audio part of a clip in the timeline to get back the Audio part synchronized with the video.
    Thx for help !

Not entirely sure if I'm following you but try this:
    Select your video-only clip
Press F on your keyboard to do a Match Frame. The (video & audio) clip should now be loaded into the Viewer with the In & Out matching your timeline clip.
Replace the clip in the timeline with the clip from the Viewer (For most folks/scenarios, that means drag from the Viewer)
Post back if that isn't it.

The area on my toolbar where you can change the white balance mode is now gone form my toolbar.  How can I get it back?

Your basic panel must have been accidentally deselected.
Simply right-click on one of the other panels e.g. Tone Curve and choose basic again - see image below.
You can also select solo mode, if you prefer to work in one panel at a time with the others collapsing automatically when you click on another tab.

  • How simple is the Bluray authoring in Final Cut Studio?

    Hello!
I've been reading posts on Bluray authoring with Final Cut Pro. Just got the upgrade to Final Cut Studio and saw some video at the apple site about bluray.
Frankly, I don't want to spend money with a Windows authoring software for Bluray.
So, how basic is the bluray authoring in Final Cut Studio?
    I need the following:
1-Use a custom image for the background in the menu (but no moving clips, etc).
    2-Chapters.
3-Enclose an option for an extra short video (like "making off").
If that is done with FC Studio, it would be enough.
    Thanks for your help.

    Hi Tom!
    Thanks for your help!
What I'm really interested is in the HD quality of the video. Flashy flying menus and camera angles I never used neither with commercial DVD or Blurays.
For authoring: I'll use a custom image (jpeg or whatever - probably a still from the video I shot) for the backgroud , 2 lines of title (1- full video and 2- extra short video) and chapters to jump to scenes.
In other hand, I shot a video mostly using time lapse with a Canon DSRL (TIFFs edited in Motion), set the FCPro project to 1920 x 1080 25p Apple proress 422 (HQ), and in a Full HD TV I use for monitor (with AJA HDMI converter) looks AWESOME! Images look as amazing as some Hollywood bluray I rented.
So as you can imagine,I don't want recompressions that may degrade the full HD video.
If that is possible with the FC Studio bluray basic authoring,I'm running monday to buy an external Bluray, like LA cie or else.
    Regards;
    Javier
P.D.: I posted in my site an HD clip made with the previous FCPro in Mpeg2. Now I'm using the H264. I didn't had an HD TV for monitor before. Did SD projects. Now the HD changes everything.

    vs
using footage that is imported into FCP from imovie?
Is there anything i can do in fcp to make this footage more reliable or safer or more stable as i pull remotely from iphoto?

  • How to get the Vimeo encoding in Final Cut Studio / Final Cut Pro (for web)

I have some films I would like to "display" on the web. It seems that vimeo.com has a great way of encoding films for the web.
    http://www.vimeo.com/
Anyone who knows how to do the same encoding within Final Cut? Or are there other ways for web which will work also for windows user (to watch the video without downloading extra plugins?
I love how the videos starts almost instantly in hd on Vimeo! Al right it skips a bit, but then again it is hd on the web.....

This is sort of a workaround for what you're trying to achieve:
Here's a Ken Stone article on encoding for Vimeo.
So...what a lot of folks are doing these days, is uploading to Vimeo (or similar service). Then back on your own website simply "embed" the Vimeo movie. You can control the size & control colors of the embed. When you're on the Vimeo page for a particular video, you'll see the "Embed" link on the right of the video. Click that and it will expose the code you need to copy into your own website.

  • How do I continue editing a project from the trial version of final cut pro to the paid version

I have been working on a project on the trial version of final cut pro x.  I  bought the full version even though my trial wasn't up yet.  When I opened the paid version my projects from the trial are not in there.  I also closed the trial and opening the paid version and my projects were still not there.  How do I get my projects to show in the paid version?

I have a 'similar' problem, but your advice above does not work (or does not seem to work).  My Trail version of Final Cut Pro 10.1.1 expired before I completed my first/only movie project.
I purchased FCP yesterday.  Now I want to "import" the video files and the movie project (not sure if that's the correct terminology - I am still a newbie) into FCP 10.1.1 -  Please advise?

  • Does CC 2014 eliminate the need to have Final Cut Pro and/or Compressor installed to access Apple ProRes 422?

    Hello:
Just today, I was working on a Mac system that does not have any of the applications that I would have expected to need to have installed in order to do more than just decompress movie files compressed with Apple ProRes 422.
I was expecting to have to install Final Cut Studio 3, Final Cut Pro X, Compressor 4, and/or QuickTime 7 with the QuickTime Pro key; however, none of those applications are installed and I am able to create custom QuickTime Apple Pro Res422 Sequences in Premiere Pro as well as export using Apple ProRes 422.  After Effects and Adobe Media Encoder also show all the Apple ProRes variations.
Does CC 2014 eliminate the need to have Final Cut Pro and/or Compressor installed to access Apple ProRes 422?  Is it something happening on the OS or QuickTime level that would affect CC or CS6 in the same way?
I've done a web search, but haven't really come up with anything other than older articles about needing to have FCP installed (and I typically work on systems with Final Cut Studio 3 installed as well as CS6, CC, or CC 2014).  If more detailed information is available, it would be great to be able to read up on it.
The system is a 21.5-inch iMac running Mac OS X 10.8.5, QuickTime Player 10.2, and Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2014 (8.0.0 - I know an update is available for PrPro, but it's not my system to make that change).
    Thanks in advance,
    Warren Heaton

    Hi Emil:
I use ProRes all the time as well, but I have Final Cut Studio on my workstations.
I had not come across MindPower009's YouTube video.  That explains how ProRes could be showing up without FCP or Compressor.
So, the answer to my question would be, "No, CC 2014 does not eliminate the need to have Final Cut Pro and/or Compressor installed to access Apple ProRes 422; however, if you are willing to be in violation Apple's terms of use, you can install the ProRes codecs anyway."
Even though MindPower009's YouTube video comments claim "FREE and LEGAL", it's clear from both the Apple download page and the ProRes codecs installer that Apple expects you to own at least one of their applications.
    Thanks again for the link!

How do I export a project from Final Cut Pro to my desktop as a movie?

Can anyone please help me.. when I click on my timeline in my project library and try to export movie nothing happens! and when I  try to "share" to youtube I get an error message stating that it cannot be exported because it contains "no video"... The 4 minute music video that I've created with shots off my Canon T2i looks and plays great....If I uploaded the videos into Final Cut but did not save them on my desktop or anywhere else on the Mac would this be a reason to get this message? I have never experienced this before...the only option under "share" that works is "email"

  • How do I make a pic in final cut Pro stop  flickering?

how do I make a pic in final cut Pro stop  flickering?

Question: how do I make a pic in final cut Pro stop  flickering?
Answer: It depends on what is causing the flickering.  It could be due to the pixel dimensions being too large for the Sequence settings in FCP.  It could be due to thin horizontal lines in the image.  It could be due to areas of the image in high contrast with each other.   Or it could be due to a combination of several factors.
If the image is too large, reduce the pixel dimensions to a more reasonable size.
If it's due to thin horizontal lines, deinterlace the image, or slightly blur the lines in Photoshop.
If it's due to areas of high contrrast, reduce the contrast of those areas in Photoshop.
In FCP you can also try applying the Flicker filter to the image in the Timeline and/or a Gaussian blur filter with a setting of around 0.2 or 0.3
