hi im very new to changing parts on my mac and wanted to know how i change my hhd to a ssd and what to do after i turn it on ,iv looked on the net but cant find any clear help ,many thanks marcus

Visit OWC where you can find some tutorials on disassembly and installing drives in laptops. The user manual for your computer may also provide some information on replacing a drive.
You should pick up an external enclosure for your HDD so you can boot the computer with it as well as use it for your files.
When you install a new, bare disk drive there are two things to do:
Prepare the drive
Install OS X
Drive Preparation and New System Installation
1. Boot from your OS X Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. SMART info will not be reported on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Security button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
7. After formatting quit DU and return to the installer. Install OS X.

I read there may be some compability issues on some ssd devices, any suggestions which one i should choose?

I've extensively used a Kingston HyperX and a Samsung 830 SSD on my early 2011 MBP. I could say for sure the only issues I've had was with the HyperX (compatibility with the Sandy Bridge firmware), and that required updating the firmware on the SSD itself (which was only possible with Windows, and using AHCI, which is not easily enabled with a Mac). These are not the most recent, but I have had them since they were introduced last year, and they were some of (if not) the fastest ones available to consumers. They are great!
I had no issues whatsoever with the Samsung 830. I've heard great things about Intel as well, but from what I've seen, Samsung's is better in some ways such as speed. There's really a very small difference since they all use basically the same technology.

How to change firmware password on Macbook air

Hi again all,
Community here helped me to manage to change the firmware on my macbook pro.
I also have the same situation with my macbook air (please feel comfortable, i do not have other notebooks).
How can I change the password at least the firmware password (in order to deactivate it and then proceed to an applejack session) ?
I tried: cmd+R, C press.. Nothing
ps: i do not have any cds, dvd or key

I did not receive/have any dvd/cd/key for the macbook air... and AS it is a macbook air so there is no drive anyway...
Is there any other solution to change the firmware password/deactivate it ?

T520 - how to change my SSD HD?

I have the T520 with 128GB SSD drive. It has worked very well for me until now but since about 2 weeks ago, HD started to freeze on me, about once a day. Basically the whole Windows 7 freezes and eventually the bluescreen - reporting that HD is undetectable. If I reboot, it works again until the next freeze.
So I'm considering changing the HD to a larger capacity (and hopefully a faster SSD drive). How would I go about doing this? I did manage to create a series of boot disks - is that all I need or do I also somehow need to create that recovery partition? Is there any place where I can find the steps to follow?

About a month ago, this setup completely stopped working - did not boot under normal mode anymore.
Fortunately, It did boot under "safe" mode, so I was able to boot in that mode, and backed up the content. Then, I made the recovery DVDs and proceeded with a clean factory reset. I did run the Diagnostic tool which is also supposed to fix any bad sectors. Not sure if it has found anything as I left it running without my presence.
It was ok for couple of weeks and then all of a sudden I started to see a different issue. Now, when I have many windows open (more than 50 tabs in one window), occassionally, he freezes, completely. Everything, including the mouse. If I leave it, then within a minute, it goes blue screen of death, then goes back into Lenovo boot but hangs there. I need to turn it off and back on manually with the power on/off button. I did member however in few occassions that I also had that DOS screen with a message saying "HD cannot be detected" or something similar.
These days, I encounter this about 2-3 times per day. I don't think I enountered this issue when I use the latop with only few winddows open. Do you think I am right to suspect that this is a SSD issue? I don't think it's a memory issue as it always takes time between a complete freeze and the blue screen. I'm suspecting that this time, Windows 7 managed to allocate some swap space in a bad area of the SSD, and under heavy usage, it ventually accesses that area?
Still baffled.

-Remove the existing weather widget from your dashboard
-Using the Finder, go to the folder YourUserName/Library/Preferences
-Delete the file widget-com.apple.widget.weather.plist
-Create a new weather widget in dashboard.

Do you mean your Short User Name (same as your home folder, the one with the little house icon in a Finder sidebar)?
Does it appear after the computer name (as in "<Computer Name>:~ <short user name>$)?

Sorry, OS X hasn't evolved to a scalable UI type for hard of seeing users. If you drop the resolution your type gets blurry.
However I have two solutions.
1: You hit System Preferences > Accessibility and set a control key for zoom/in out, set the zoom to where the pointer is at and get a third party scroll wheel mouse. This way you hold the control key and can zoom in/out anywhere the mouse is pointed at.
2: You follow my User Tip here and use Firefox with the associated add-ons.
Since Firefox is customizable, your able to create larger menu type and have web pages automatically zoomed (full page, graphics and all) to your minimal needs.
Also FF will remember your window size so your not having to resize that each time you open the program. There is also a Full screen option.
Since web browsing takes up a lot of time on machines, at least you have that part licked. If you use web based email like GMail, since it's in a web browser that is zoomed as well.

The Early Edge payment option requires the current phone on the line using the early Edge must be returned to Verizon Wireless. Did you once considered going to a third party site like Swappa to purchase a gently used device for your daughter?

You didn't post a pic confirming that you screen is actully 13." Do you have a measuring tape and or a ruler? Place the tape or ruler diagonally across the screen.
