How to change video cameras easily

When using iChat AV or SKYPE, it is easy to have a MacBook built-in Video camera and a FireWire iSight both attached - and using preferences switch from one to the other (for example to use the iSight to show the entire room).
BUT I would like to be able to switch cameras in programs like "Photo Booth" or even in iChat AV - more easily.
For SOUND, there is a program Sound Source (Rogue Amoeba Software) that lets you change audio input and output via a menu bar icon. NEAT!
Does anyone know of anything similar for VIDEO? I've tried VersionTracker (and will try again) - but appreciate any comments.

There are not settings to control the image quality, the device always takes the largest image possible. Zooming in will cause the image to be a lower resolution.

Are you referring to mirroring or you just unable to set up homesharing.

Plug the camera into the mac via firewire. Put the camera into camera mode - as opposed to VCR mode.
Open iChat. It should recognize any firewire input videocamera. iSight is firewire.
The problem you will have, depending on your application, is that after being in standby mode for a while, with no action, will force to camera to sleep. Maybe you can tweak this in the PD150 though and force it to supress the sleep mode. Don't know.
But you've already got everything you need - hardware/software related. Just a matter of whether or not the potential quirks can be eliminated/dealt with.

How to synchronize video camera with logic for recording?

Hi guys,
I have a Sony VX 2000 and logic pro.
I'd like to do a multitrack audio recording of a musical theatre performance and simultaneously record video with two cameras.
I want to record the sound into logic pro, that way I can mix the sound later (multitrack audio).
At the same time I want to record video with the cameras.
There may be 100 takes or more....
What is the best way to synchronize logic with the video recording?
I don't want to synchronize each audio take with each video take later, there must be an easiser way!
Is it possible to start recording of video and audio at exact the same time?
Do I need any additional hardware?
Any feedback highly appreciated!

Have the drummer make a 2 pop (click) at the beginning of every take.
Set the camera to 16 bit audio and you can import the camera audio into Logic.
Record multitrack into Logic at the same time.
You can align the takes to the audible click.
Sorry, It's the only thing I can think of,
without having very expensive externally synced cameras.
Logic doesn't record video, it plays it back.
So making some type of slate is the way to go.
It will be a pain to manually align all that stuff.

please can anyone tell me how to convert my .avi files to the format that will play on my iPod touch!
I've managed to convert a couple in iTunes but the rest of the files won't import to iTunes so I can't use that converter!
I've also tried something called MPEG streamclip but that keeps telling me there's an invalid frame rate and won't work!

On a MAC use iSquint to do your conversion. Get it from version tracker. It's free and fantastic. It will also convert flash (.flv) and .mov files.
One thing to remember is that the default is video scaled for the iPod Classic/video which is smaller than the iPoT. So the settings should be "Optimize for iPod" Quality "High" "H.264 Encoding" then select "advanced" enter 480 in the width and whatever pixel height is required to keep the aspect ratio the same as the original .avi movie. e.g.:
496 x 272 = 480 x 264
512 x 208 = 480 x 196
512 x 216 = 480 x 203
512 x 288 = 480 x 271
528 x 288 = 480 x 260

You should be able to recored much longer than that. Try clearing some space, i.e. remove other videos, pictures, movies, large apps, etc.

There aren't any laptops that I know of that can add another graphics card. There are a very few higher end laptops that have removable graphics cards, but for the most part on Toshiba's you can only replace it with the exact same type even if it is removable. I think you are wasting your time and money trying to upgrade the graphics on that model.

I am a teacher and want to make some videos to post online for my class. I would like to have it set up so that I have a powerpoint presentation going, a video camera pointing at a piece of paper I can write on and another video camera pointing at me. How do I do this? I have seen several solutions but they seem to be for switching between videos whereas I want both video images to be on at the same time.
Also, is there a screen capture program you would recommend?

Go to System Preferences - Sharing and change the computer name there. You can also, optionally, change the name of your hard drive to further clarify the origin of your backups. Click once on the "Macintosh HD" on your desktop, then click its name to allow you to edit it.
