How to charge my iPod?

I use my iPod with my Mac. However when I travel I travel with a Windows laptop. I don't have any music on my laptop.
My question is that I want to keep my iPod charged. Can I charge it only with my laptop? Or is there another way to charge it?

An alternative would be to purchase one of the many after market iPod chargers that are available from either Apple or a host of other sellers such as Amazon.

Yamipod may not work for you if you have iTunes version 7 or later although there is an "untested" version.

There's also another method. I've successfully tested this across several different Windows PCs.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If none of these methods work, try CopyPod which also supports the transfer of videos from iPod to computer.

The iBooks tell us the percentage and approximate time left to full charge. This would be a great feature for iPods as well, right? determining an ipods estimated remaining battery life is difficult because it doesnt know how long the backlight will stay on, how many times you change a songs, etc.
those are all variables that change the amount of battery

Like many others I received a gen2 Shuffle for
Christmas and have been totally frustrated with
trying to get it going. It is now day 3 of the
hostage situation and the computer and ipod are
finally talking to each other, but getting it to
charge is hopeless. Twice now we have finally gotten
a green light (joy!) after many hours of charging,
but the joy is short-lived when the ipod won't power
on when taken from its dock. I've seen numerous
posts about the blinking lights, steady lights,
different USB ports and so on. We've tried our home
and my work PC (which is newer) and get the same
results regardless. Any explanations for the green
light that apparently doesn't mean the device is
actually charged? Any advice is appreciated so we
can differentiate the insanity that comes with this
device from what we might have already had.
WHEN you remove the Shuffle from the dock, after the status light turns green, you ARE using the ON/OFF switch to turn it on, right? (that's the one that says OFF next to the status light)

That must be an old model. Note it refers to Apple part number MA592LL/A. The model I mentioned came out AFTER the 2G was released and works great.

WRONG - it's a regulated power supply that furnishes regulated 5.0VDC. There are cheap power adapters available that use a diode and a couple of resistors to step down the AC voltage BUT I WOULD NEVER use such a device!
