How to charge my Itouch with laptop

hi peoples,
just bought the iTouch today, naughty piece of kit. but i know when you get it....it needs a good 12 or so hours charge....am i right....?
if so i have a laptop and cant really leave that on with it charging as i dont have a mains charger. what happens if i dont charge it properly, will i get poor battery life staright away. or can i get away with charging it for say 4 hours now, then wake up 2moz and charge for another period of time?

Items with lithium batteries don't require a full, inital charge.
That's a leftover from nicad batteris which have a memory effect. If you let them run down say 20% then fully charge them, they get "stuck" Lithium batteries do not do this.
It's agood idea to use all the battery and fully charge maybe once a month, but that's to keep the battery meter somewhat calibrated, not to prevent it from getting memory.
And frequent deep cycles of lithium batteries will shorten their useful life.
