How to check in a dead ipad in apple configurator

Im using apple configurator to supervise a fleet of Ipads, one has unfortunately died and I cannot seem to work out how I can check in the failed ipad so I can check out a replacement to the end usetr who was assigned the failed ipad.

didn't i say? i use the svnkit, formerly known as
javasvn.Nope. You never said
java doesn't support that.Whatever that means
afaik, svnkit doesn't have a forum..But it does have a Wiki, and some documentation. Have you tried there? I remember JavaSVN being poorly documented, but equally, hardly anyone has actually used it, so you're unlikely to get help here

When plugging in an iPad in Apple Configurator, it is not being read under USB Connected so I can't update it.  The iPhoto window opens up and reads the photos on the iPad, so it is connecting to the computer.  Earlier today I wasn't having any problems.  I have shut down the iPad and the computer and started over, but that didn't help.  Any ideas on how to get the system to read the iPad so I can update the apps on it?

Hi, is the problem just to update your apps on your iPad? Here is what you should check. Is the iTunes on your computer updated to the latest version? Does your iPad needs to be updated? Do you have enough storage on your iPad to do the update? On your device is your iCloud back up checked?
Go to Settings - iCloud - Backup/Storage - see if its checked, and try unchecking it before connecting it to the computer.
Please let me know if you need any further assistance.

How to connect my iPhone and iPad to Apple TV

Connect the iPad and Apple TV to the same WiFi network. Double Tab the home button on the iPad and then swipe your recently used apps from left to right until you see the mirroring icon which looks like a retangle with an up arrow. Tab that icon until you see the Apple TV. Tab Apple TV and slide the slider to the ON position. You should now see your iPad screen on the TV the Apple TV is connected to.

  • How can I add an iPad to Apple Configurator without losing the user's settings, folders, etc?

When attempting to add an iPad that has already been in use (for some time) by a particular user into Apple Configurator, I end up having to either wipe the iPad entirely as if it is a new iPad, or restore the user's settings and configuration from iCloud during mini-setup. It seems to be one choice or the other.
Is there a way to add the "old" iPad into Apple Configurator for management purposes yet still be able to restore the user's settings from iCloud? That is - items like: folders, pictures, email settings, app data?

This isnt true. Connecting an unsupervised device to configurator and supervising it will wipe the device, there is no way around that. You can attempt an iCloud restore from here, but anything not backed up prior to supervising the device will be erased when supervising it. I have never tried to restore data from an unsupervised iPad so I have no clue if everything will come back.
Let me clarify... You can successfully restore an iCloud backup of an unsupervised iPad to a new (i.e. different) iPad and have it Supervised with data intact. The process below will allow Configurator to Supervise a device without wiping it when an iCloud backup from a different unsupervised iPad is restored to it.
Try it… Get 2 new unsupervised iPads… we'll call them iPad "A" and iPad "B." Take iPad "A" and install a few apps, take a few photos, change the background, create a new document in Pages, etc. Run an iCloud backup of iPad "A" using your Apple ID. This is our unsupervised backup of iPad "A."
Now take new unsupervised iPad "B" and start running through the setup assistant. When you get to the restore screen, choose to restore from iCloud backup. Log in with your Apple ID. Select the backup for iPad "A." The backup will restore and then the iPad will restart. Once it restarts, you get to a "Hello" screen on the iPad. At this point, plug the iPad into your Configurator computer. On the Prepare screen, turn Supervision ON and select "Don't restore backup." Click Prepare.
Configurator will not wipe the iPad. It will run through the supervision process but not wipe it. Once complete, you'll see that iPad "B" is now exactly the same as iPad "A", but if you go to Settings -> General -> Profiles on iPad "B" you will see a Supervision profile installed.
The key here is to use a different iPad from the originally backed up iPad. You can't restore the backup of iPad "A" to iPad "A" again and supervise it without wiping it. But you can take the backup of unsupervised iPad "A" and restore it to iPad "B" and retain apps, data, and settings of iPad "A" but with the Supervision profile.
    Hope this clarifies things!

I see where your going with that. I dont have any way to reproduce this scenario in my environment, but I will take your word for it that this works. I have only ever plugged in an unsupervised device to configurator and gone through the setup, which always wipes the device. If your saying theres a way around that you should give that a shot OP.

Having trouble restricting the restore function on an iPad through Apple Configurator
I cannot find the setting the allow/disable this feature.

Configuration profiles do not allow you to apply a static IP address to a device.
Instead, it would be highly recommended to configure static IP addressing within the DHCP server itself. This would accomplish what you want without worrying about which proifle goes on what device, etc. Configurator can also export the MAC addresses to make life easier in setting this up.
Right click the 'All Devices' in the Supervise tab, click Export Info > Device Information > WiFi MAC Address.

Is there a way to get the Apple Configurator to try to re-download iOS 8?

Apple Support had me delete the image file from the following location:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.configurator/Data/Library/Caches/com.apple.confi gurator/firmware/
    The file name was iPad3,4_8.0_12A365_Restore.ipsw
I deleted this file and ran the prepare again and it download the iOS 8 ok and successfully prepared the iPad.

Consider DEP, Device Enrollment Program. This will establish the company as the owner of the device.  It will lock an MDM to the divice which in turn will lock profiles to the device.

  • Unable to check out Ipad in Apple Configurator

I am experiencing an error code when I try to check out an Ipad in Configurator "unable to change user". I am able to supervise and install apps. However when I go to check out the Ipad, the error description states it is unable to load the PDF documents into Adobe reader because the app is not present. The app is present however and I can access with not issues. Any help would be appreciated.

  • How do I reset ipad in apple configurator

trying to configure ipads in configurator, cant get it to work correctly. it there a way to delete existing profile and wipeout ipad to start new again. I cant get configurator to see ipad in prepare mode. thanks.

Just guessing it sounds like you have used configurator on this iPad before it stopped showing in Prepare. So most likely you have supervised this iPad, and now it will only show up in the Supervise tab.
Have only the iPad in question plugged into the Mac, go to the Supervise tab and click USB connected devices on the left hand side. If an iPad is in that list, there it is. If you would still like to wipe it and start fresh, right click (or click with two fingers at the same time, depending on your settings) on the iPad and a drop down menu will appear. Click on 'Unsupervise'. That will wipe your iPad and unsupervise it, as if it was a brand new iPad that had never been plugged into Apple Configurator.

  • Restoring iPads through Apple Configurator

We are a library that has 8 iPads that we are trying to set up through Apple Configurator. Everything has been working well so far, but we've been having problems with the check in/out function. The iPad starts the restore process as it's supposed to, but it does not complete (on any of our iPads). The screen turns off and the spinner appears briefly, then the Apple logo appears on the screen. Up to this point things seem fine, but then the apple logo dissapears and it looks like the iPad has turned itself off. It does not turn on again, even after several minutes. I can turn it on manually at this point, and then the restore process will finish correctly. But there is no way to restore without having to turn the iPad back on manually in the middle of the process. Has anyone had this problem with Apple Configurator before? Is it just a bug in the most recent version (we didn't have this problem up until a few weeks ago).
Our iPads are running the latest version of iOS (6.0.1), and the Mac has the latest version of OS X (10.8.1). Apple Configurator is version 1.2.1. Thanks!

create and deploy a backup that doesnt have epub metadata in it.
if you have a restore image with the same UDID as the device and the one of its previous backups, the problem is you have itunes checked to sync books when you imported the backup into config'erater.
if you import a backup of a device with no .epub location data, then cant put them on there
you may also be able to go into itunes and delete the appdatastore content for ibooks, ensure the sync option for ibooks is unchecked, construct clean backup, import, deploy.

  • Folders on Ipad and Apple Configurator Backups

I can't get my backup in the apple configurator to include the folders with all the apps.  I have my ipad the way i want it and now I want to distribute it to other ipads.  I backup but the apps don't come with.  What am I doing wrong?

I would suggest trying it again, perhaps give your backup a different name from the device that you're backing up.  I went through several tries with folders and app positions not being restored, but eventually it started working.  I'm still very confused by some of the things that Apple Configurator is doing, but I'll plugging away until I figure out exactly how to use it.
