How to check installed programs

Hello, is there a way to check if any programs have been installed on my iMac without me knowing. The other user has the password to the root account.
Thankyou

Hi, it may be difficult, but At the Apple Icon at top left>About this Mac.
Then click on More Info>Software>Applications...
Of course if you think they may have installed Spyware or Key Loggers, that may be a different matter.
One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for action in Safe Mode...
Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed. Also look in System Preferences' Other row.
Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...

  • How do you Install programs to one user account on a macbook pro?

I want to download programs to my user account on my laptop without the other peoples accounts having access to it. How do you specify only to download to this account, or change the settings of past installed programs to only be accessible to my account and not the others

As Csound1 has already pointed out create a folder in your Home folder for only those applications that you want exclusive access to like this one in my Home folder:
For those application that have an installer, you'll need to install and then move the app from the Applications folder to your own app folder.

  • Want to purchase new mac mini but I do not know how I would install programs from dvd without internal optical drive

I am planning to purchase new mac mini that just came out today but I do not know how I will be able to install programs or save stuff to disk when there is now internal optical drive.  I know I could purchase an external drive but is that necesary. Thanks.

If you have access to another Mac with an DVD drive you should be able to share it using Apple's drive sharing feature in the OS or at the very least if you have a firewire cable boot into firewire disk mode...

    Hi,
If you have access to  MMC, where you can very well find out through that, if the SDM is installed then assuem that JAVA is also installed.
otherise through the t_code: SMICM, menu->Goto->Administration->Display HTTP Data, will display
    J2EE_SERVER=True then java is installed.
Release level can be find out from System->Status->SAP Sytem Data->Magnify you can find out the latest patch level & Release level.

  • How to check installed software's in Client Computers

    Hi,
I installed SCCM 2012 in  windows 2008 R2 server and how can i check that
what all software's installed on client machines.
i am able to get hardware details of client machines.
    please help me,

For that you need to enable software inventory class.
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh509028.aspx
Software Inventory is actually a file inventory and although it will inventory exe's present on a system, this (IMO) is not indicative of what software is actually installed on a system.
Hardware Inventory, by default, gathers info from the ARP (as pointed out by Kent) and should be used initially. Also, enabling the proper Asset Intelligence classes which build upon ARP and return information via hardware inventory also improves the data
presented: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg712322.aspx. From there, the reports in the AI category will give you exactly what you need.

  • How do i install programs that I've previosly deinstalled?

Hey, first of I've got a few problems.
I installed the Adobe cc free trial a few weeks before.
Yesterday I've paid for the Creative Cloud. But when I started the program it wanted a serial number.
Since I didn't get one in the first place, I tried first deinstalling then reinstalling the whole thing.
So i deinstalled the creative cloud desktop thing and then dragged the programs to the trash bin.
Then i reinstalled the cloud manager, after opening it, i saw that all programs i previously installed due to the free trial, were all screened as installed and updated.
Now, first how do i get the programs back on my macbook, and then how do i get the whole thing to the whole program, not only the free trial.
thanks for any help in advance

    Hi levfarr,

  • New to Macbook, how do I install programs?

I have had my new macbook air for three days now. Still getting use to coming from PC. One thing I am really confused on is the "apps" and the "app store" I have an iphone so I grasp the concept. I guess I am just wondering if you can download regular programs that are not on the app store... I know this is probably ignorant but Like I said this is my first Mac. Thank you for you assistance.

Check out this website; MacUpdate is a central repository for 3rd party software that’s not distributed through the App store. Unlike some other repositories it is a safe place from which to download software. In most, if not all, cases the download links are directly to the vendor or shareware author’s download website.
Most of the software you’ll download there (or elsewhere) is delivered and installed one of three ways:
the software is delivered as a disk image (extender: dmg) and when double clicked disk image will appear either on your desktop or in the Finder window’s sidebar. The program is inside the disk and is installed by dragging it to the Application folder. Usually, but not always, you’ll find an Application folder in the disk. It is an alias to your Application folder and you can drag the program onto it.
the software is delivered either as a disk image as above but the instead of an application to be dragged to the Application folder you’ll see that the file has the word “installer” in the name. Double-click the installer and follow the onscreen instructions to install the program.
sometimes you’ll download an archive (extender: zip). After double clicking it you might find a file with the dmg extender; if so treat it as either 1 or 2 above. However you might find a program instead. If so, drag it to your Applications folder. This 3rd option is becoming very rare.

  • How do I install programs and files from my backup hard drive?

I had my computer reset to original settings after I backed it up to an external hard drive and now I'm not sure how to reinstall everything from there.

Time Machine is not a application installer, it is a backup and restore app. If you erased or lost an App then open Time Machine, navigate to a time when you know you have the app and then restore it.
Have you done any backups using the Seagate drive or is it a brand new external HD? Remember we are not there to see what you are attempting to do so we are relying on you to be as descriptive as possible.

  • Installing programs and hardware

I have a sunsparc Utra10 elite 3d system that has 512 megs of memory and I installed a 20 gig Western Digital HDD that went in flawlessly. The m3 video card didn't work due to something broken off of the card and I bought another one off of ebay. I placed the card in it's slot and the onboard video was inoperable. i used a sun to vga connector to connect my compaq 7550 monitor but it was inoperable as well. I changed the jumper that is directly above the video card and it was still inoperable. If I have the m3 video card in, the onboard video does not work, but when I take the card out, the onboard video works. How do I install the video card and make it work? Is there something I am overlooking?
Also, how do I install programs like firefox 1.5b2? I really want to learn how to use Solaris, but I can't find any books or on-line help that is truly useful.

Have you checked the HCL for your video card?

2nd-Sol 10 comes with Mozilla, which is basically Firefox. Really.

  • Installing programs - in this case Adobe Acrobat

Complete Mac novice.  I cannot for the life of me figure out how to installed Adobe on this computer!  I can go to the site, hit dowload.  The program shows up in my downloads, but I have no idea how ro open it, save it to the desktop, etc.  On my work PC all I have to do it save it to my desktop etc.  How do I install programs from the web onto my Mac???? Thanks.

The Adobe file was downloaded to your Downloads folder. To get there click the Finder icon on the very left side of your dock (blue smiling face).  A Finder window will open.  Look in the list for your Downloads folder and click  it to expand it.  Look for your Adobe download file and double click it.  The Adobe installer will open.  At this point, I believe you will see the Adobe icon on the left and the Applications icon on the right (unless Adobe has changed).  Simply drag the Adobe icon onto the Applications icon and drop it there.  The installer will take over.
Or, you may need to double click the Adobe icon to begin installation.
In either case, follow the prompts once the installation begins.
However, I use Apple's built-in Preview for all of my PDF files and find that it meets all my needs including searching and annotations.
    Hope this is helpful.
    Enjoy your day.

  • Cant install programs from web

i recently install stuffit expander to open an application, once i had done this i then deleted stuffit expander and since cannot install downloaded applications and programs.
it usually comes up with please select an application to use to open the program, when all i want to do is install it. im thinking i have deleted something important when i deleted stuffit, how can i install programs again?
i have tried allowing disk permissions in the start up, but to no avail, it is has not helped me to install programs again.
    many thanks

    To Apple Discussions!
Redownload Stuffit Expander & keep it. Repair permissions & restart after the installation.
Go to Stuffit's Preferences & select all the suffixes that you want Stuffit to open.
The next time you get the +"please select an application to use to open the program"+ message, select Stuffit Expander.
Some programs are stuffed downloads & need to be unstuffed before you can install.
