How to check laptop fan is working?

Hi,
I am having compaq persario v6111TU model. From the last couple of months i have observed that laptop sometimes over heat. So i was thinking that the fan is stil running or not.
So please let me know how can i check that the fan is working fine. I installed the SpeedFan software and it is not anything related to fan, but it is showing tempratures.

How to check if SSH is working over VNC

Hi, I'm somewhat of a computer noob. Biology is more of my thang.
In any case I've set up port forwarding on my router so I can access my iMac from school using my Macbook air. I use the native/built-in OSX VNC client to access files and screen share. It has been a little buggy lately, but it is really quite convenient and it was easy to set up, and I like that I can restrict access to prevent users from attempting to connect unless they are signed into my my AppleID on their computer.
However, after much reading I am beginning to realize that the connection is secure/encrypted, but the session itself might not be encrypted, such that anything I'm doing remotely on my iMac is completely unencrypted for the intelligent hacker to sniff out. So I have a few questions...
1) I have a paid subscription to a private VPN client. If I turn on my VPN and then VNC through to my iMac, will my session be encrypted?
2) I have port forwarding set up at 5900, so if I enter "ssh user@imac -L 5900:127.0.0.1:5900" in Terminal and then VNC to my iMac, will that VNC connection automatically be tunneled through the SSH encryption?
3) If the answer to either 1 and 2 is "yes," is there a way I can verify/test to make sure that all traffic is being directed through the VPN or SSH and that is encrypted?
4) Any other pertinent remote-connection security features/cool learning tricks for a noob such as myself would be greatly appreciated!

The 'contrib' folder in the download has slptool.exe and slpsnoop.exe which do work on Windows 7.

Laptop fan dosent work.

Hello I have a Satellite L650, the serial number is:XXXXXXXXX and the model number is PSK2CU-0M801X. The fan on my laptop recently stopped working although I have a cooling pad it still heats up. I have updated my Bios and Windows 7. I have read articles about the TOSHIBA Cooling Performance Diagnostic Tool but cannot seem to find the download link, any help would be appreciated.

Laptop Fan Not Working

I use a Dell Inspiron. Since the last couple of days my laptop gets heated up to 60 at no load and 80-90 while listening to music. I can't feel the air coming out of the fan vent which I could earlier.
I tried using i8kutils but it didn't work.
fancontrols says: Error: Can't read configuration file
whatever utility I try to use I can't get a read on the fans speed or check its functionality.
Please suggest some means to check it.

Time Machine: How to check that it's working?

hey guys, i just ran Time Machine for the first time and it looks like everything worked ok. it completed the backup and will run another backup in 20 minutes. i was just wondering how i can check that my files are actually being backed up in case i had to restore the files. how would i go about restoring the files by the way? i can't see an option to do this.

Yes, as softwater and others have said, Time Machine does skip some things, such as system work files, most caches and logs, etc. The size of all that varies widely from time to time, but is usually several GBs.
See the tan box in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Question #11 for the gory details.
But the size of the data on your TM drive will grow as more backups are performed, copying only the items that are new or changed, eventually filling all the available space. Then it will begin deleting the oldest backup(s) when it needs room for new ones.

No, TM backups aren't directly bootable. If your internal HD dies, you can restore your backups to a replaced internal HD, or another external HD. The restored system is bootable.

Yes. The things it doesn't back up are re-created as needed anyway. See FAQ #14 for details on doing a full restore.

Laptop fans stopped working!

I own an MSI laptop, model number M285 or FID2010. For some reason when the laptop switches on the fans start running, but as soon as the laptop begins to load windows the fans stop, causing the laptop to overheat. Can anyone please tell me why it is doing this and how to resolve it? Does the BIOS need re-flashing?

IF you have already instaled DB2 databse, then you can get the driver, in this location from your DB2 database folder,
/usr/local/java/db2/lib/db2jdbc.zip
If you need to install DB2, then I would suggest that you try this link,

Like Jaffar said, run statspack is a good thing.
To check performance, the best way consist to run statspack when your database work well, to have a baseline.
When you think there is any problem, rerun statspack and compare with your baseline.

Laptop fan stops working

Hi all,
I've got a dv6-6136tx which I have had for about 2 years now. Just recently (earlier today) my fan just stopped while playing a game. The cpu was running at about 78 celcius and the gpu at 72 clecius.
Is there any particular reason for this? Is there anyway to stop it from doing it?

For some reason, the specifications were not listed on HP's site.
Page 90 of this manual details the various fans and heatsinks available for the various models of DV6 notebooks. You will need to match the part number with the processor and video card system. Once you have the part number, you can look it up here. Be sure to select the proper country at the top-right.
I don't know if you are familiar with the terms discrete and UMA, so I will provide the translation below.
Discrete video memory = dedicated memory. This means the video card's RAM does not pull from the system RAM. Think of this as a dedicated video card versus integrated video cards.
UMA = integrated video card memory. This means it pulls from the system RAM.
The part store, or part surfer, should list if thermal paste is included. I have not seen any yet that do not include it, but there is a first for everything. I recommend using a thermal paste cleaner to remove the old thermal paste and to use fresh thermal paste with the new heatsink. The fan is not sold separately, so might as well replace the heatsink as well.

LiveCycle ES2 (and LiveCycle ES) ship with three undersold and unadvertised web applications that are VERY useful. Each is referred to as an Installation Verification Sample (or IVS) but they are great testing tools you can use during development and QA. There is
1) Assembler IVS,
2) Forms IVS, and
3) Output IVS
Output IVS looks like this...
The pattern for deploying and using all three IVSs is very similar as what I am about to describe for Output IVS. The following directions apply to the JBoss turnkey on Windows.
1) go to C:\Adobe\Adobe LiveCycle ES2\deploy and locate adobe-output-ivs-jboss.ear
2) copy adobe-output-ivs-jboss.ear to C:\Adobe\Adobe LiveCycle ES2\jboss\server\lc_turnkey\deploy
3) if necessary, start LiveCycle
4) open a browser and go to http://localhost:8080/OutputIVS/
5) click Check/Change your preferences
6) add Admin Credentials
7) click Save
8) click Test your form designs
9) Select an .xdp from Form designs
10) Click Use EJB (or Use Web Service if you feel so inclined) to invoke LiveCycle Output ES2

How to check MAxl is running properly or not

i am working on ASO cube which has to implement Automation for dimension building and data loading. I am unable to execute even a single sample systax with out error. Is there any specific method to use Maxl in ASO cube or any precautions to be taken in ASO for Maxl scripts.
I don't know it is a foolish question or not to ask like "how to check the Maxl is working properly or not" bcoz it is raising me doubt by raising error for sample script also.
please help me out from this issue .

Can you log into Essbase through MaxL interactively.
If so, can you do it from a script? Something like:
login username password on servername ;
exit ;
If you can't do the first, yup, your MaxL client is hosed or you don't have a valid username/password. Or you don't know the servername.
If you can't do the latter, perhaps your client (could be the server itself, if you're running it from there) has a pathing issue when running batch files.
If both work, it is a syntax issue. Now you're just faced with your mistake(s). :) But at least you don't have to spin wheels trying to figure out if MaxL is working or not.

P.S. You might want to try using the MaxL editor in EAS and see if your login code works there. I believe (not sure, but I think so) that EAS has its own flavor of MaxL as I know you can run code there without having the Essbase client installed on a local machine.
