How to check my computer's graphics card compatibility

My computer model name is
HP Pavilion Elite HPE
motherborad: bk170aa-aba hpe-210y
Processor: AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 945 Processor, 3000Mhz, 4 core logical processor
Graphics card: ATI RAdeon HD 5450
I have purchased this desktop for 5 years and my graphics card had started to wear out.
So i did some research on what graphics card my desktop can handle but it was very challenging
some says that if the PS is high the computer can use anything but the size of the graphics card concerns me
and some says that just buy a 270x but i dont know what my PS is for the computer and i dont know if my computer can use the grapics card's full potentials.
So how I do really check what my motherboard can handle for the graphics cards?
This question was solved.

Welcome to the forum.
The power supply unit (PSU) in the computer is 300W.  Most mid-level video cards require a minimum of 400W to run properly.  A video card that will run with the 300W PSU will not
be much better than the integrated video.  Therefore, a PSU upgrade is necessary, also.
OCZ and Corsair make very good PSU's.  Irecommend at least 500W; 600W is even better for future upgrades.  You should measure the current PSU and compare the measurements to the one you choose.
The video card should be no more than 9" in length.  It is a PCI Express x16.   If you upgrade the PSU this card will work for you:

You don't need to care about graphic driver on Mac OSX. It includes in OSX and run the driver your MacBook need.

  • How do I put a new graphics card in my hp p6310y?

Hello. I'd like to upgrade my computer's graphics card for a better gaming experience with games such as Modern Warfare 2 and Call of Duty: Black Ops. I am buying a EVGA Nvidia GeForce GT 430 Graphics Card with 1024MB DDR3 Memory and was wondering how to install it. Or if it was even compatible.
Thanks. (Sorry if it's the wrong section. I'm new here)

    Hi Bzar,
The NVIDIA GTS 450 needs a 6 pin PCI-E power connector and a 400 watt power supply.  The HP p6310y only has a 300 watt power supply.
A decent video card for a PC with a 300 watt power supply is the NVIDIA GT 240 512mb or 1GB with DDR5 memory.  This card will not support DirectX 11 which is used in the newer games to provide improved detail.

  • How can I test my discrete graphics card in an MBP Retina?

How can I test the hardware on the discrete Nvidia grpahics card in my late 2012 MBP Retina?
I've had a *lot* of problems with it which I won't repeat here but the latest fun thing it's doing is crashing and requiring a hard reset any time *anything* attempts to access the discrete graphics card.  This includes but is not limited to:
*Opening system profiler and clicking on Graphics (it displays a blank screen)
    *Running a 3D graphics benchmark
*Running intensive mathematical calculations on the GPU
*Connecting to an external monitor with the thunderbolt port and using the computer for a short period of
None of these things actually work and after unsuccessfully attempting any of them the computer becomes very unstable shortly there after and usually crashes and requires hard reset.  One time I got a crash report that said something about GPU panic.
Any recommendations?  I get the sense that the apple hardware test is not doing a thoroough test of the GPU if at all.
    Thanks.

If they add OSX support for this product and it comes in at a reasonable price point, it could be an attractive solution.

Also, there are products from other companies that allow connection to PCIe cards through thunderbolt.  These two are geared more towards professional use (Audio/Video I/O cards).

  • How do I know if my graphics card is bad?

I'm having some trouble on a couple of websites with graphics. It's hard to explain what is happening visually, but it appears that the screen gets "blocky" and the blocks move around as I move my cursor. Or, portions of the screen turn white. Sometimes portions of the screen "pixelate." This has happened only on 2 websites and not with any games (although I don't run high intensity graphics games) or other programs that I run. Is there a way to check the graphics card? I purchased the computer less than a year ago so it still should be under warranty.

Take pictures of these web site displays and then make an appointment at an Apple store genius bar and have them evaluate your MBP.  Naturally bring the pictures with you.
    Ciao.

  • How do I use the secondary graphics card on a mac book pro with retina display?

I know that this is kind of a stupid question but I am new to dual graphics cards and this is the first mac that I have ever had, so I don't understand how you use the 2nd graphics card. When I click on the apple logo and go to about it shows the Intel Graphics HD 4000, but I know that they put an Nvida in here to so how do I access that? Because it has a lot more graphic power than the intel does.

Try opening iPhoto and then consulting the More Info... item. That app will cause an autoswitch to the big GPU.
Same will happen with any other app that requires that kind of display driving power.

  • How can i change my macbook graphic card?

my mac book pro with sn:w8827949yjx, was bought and registed at 2008/7/30, recently it can not start up, checked wigh genius bar was told the grapic card was failed has to be change the whole main board. I was also informed the graphic card was problem since apple factory installed into it and was infromed by apple web page. it can be changed within 4 years after registed but mine was 22 days over time.
i think it was totally unfair since i was never been informed by this but i was informed for apple new product information from my mail box but this information.
hopefully some one from apple who can read this can  help me solve this matter.

No one from Apple here - just us users. I'd plead my case to an Apple manager since you're only 22 days past the 'due date' of getting the free logic board replacement. They may make an exception. If not, ask for the Flat Rate Repair pricing, at least.

    Hi,
No, nothing you can do. The system will work this out for you and it will allocate AVAILABLE memory for the GPU if required.

  • Checking graphic card compatibility

I am trying to get a new graphic card for my pc but I'm not sure if the it compatible with my pc. The psu of my desktop is 300W and the graphic card is am planning to buy has a requirement of 300W with (Minimum recommended power supply with +12 Volt current rating of 16 Amps.) There is nothing on the spec page on this site that says anything about my pc's volts or amps. So how do I find out about my desktops volt current rating and whether it would still be compatible.

  • 3D picture CPU/Graphics card compatibility

I'm debugging some code I'm working on for utilising the 3D picture to display some data.
I've noticed that certain 3D settings have a large influence on performance as expected but I've also noticed something weird.
On my work PC (Core i7 2770, 8GB RAM, Win7 64-bit LV 2012 SP1 f5, AMD 3450 Graphics) I have a nice fluid display with several datasets rendering simultaneously.  Zooming and panning is smooth as butter.  On my Home-office PC (AMD X5 1090T (only 4 cores enabled), 8GB RAM, Win7 64-bit LV2012 SP1 f5, Nvidia GTX 460 Graphics) I have way more problems with my display.  This is kind of unusual because the graphics card seems like it should be MUCH faster and Furmark (OpenGL Benchmark) seems to be delivering expected values for my card.
Are there known combinations of Graphics cards / drivers and/or CPUs with which the 3D picture control work better than others?  I find it hard to understand how my code can run butter smooth on a weak graphics card like the 3450 but has trouble on a much beefier card like the GTX 460.  Using GPUShark utility, I also see that the GPU really is pegged to 100% load even though the workload being requested of it is really small in absolute 3D terms.
Any experience anyone can share with me?  I've tried installing the latest drivers.  That doesn't help.
    Shane.

    RFC 2323 FHE-Compliant

I just tried the same software and the same data on both machines.  Here's a valid comparison of what I'm seeing.
    Computer 1: Intel Core i7 2770, Win7 64-bit 8GB RAM, Win2012SP1 f5, AMD 6350 Graphics
    Computer 2: AMD 1090T, Win7 64-bit 8GB RAM, Win2012SP1 f5, NVidia GTX460 Graphics
Both computers have all recent patches and drivers installed.  According to any bencahmarks I have found the GTX 460 should be a little over twice as fast as the AMD 6350 card.
For the same data set of a 1024x1024 profile (displayed as a heightmap) with texture applied (also 1024x1024) plus a small coordinate object (Three arrows in X,Y and Z directions) I see the following.
Computer 1: Update rate around 17-18 ms (VSync at 60Hz)
Computer 2: Update rate around 120 ms (Much slower)
I would have initially assumed that Computer 2 is NOT using the 3D capabilities of the graphics card.  I checked OpenGL functionality by running Furmark and the results for my card match what a GTX 460 should deliver.  While the LV software is running GPUChark shows that the GPU is running at 100%, so something IS running on the graphics card but it seems to be horribly inefficient.
At ths stage, while I love the functionality of the 3D picture, the not-quite-understandable differences seen between PCs has me worried.  I don't want to propose changing out display routines from 2D to 3D and have the overall update speed deteriorate.
I know there was a change made to the 3D picture a while back because it didn't work well with AMD graphics.  I now have the opposite problem.  The same behaviour was observed in a vanilla 2012 SP1 installation (without any patches, f0 so to speak) so I don't think it's a side-effect of the AMD patch.

  • Shockwave player updates: graphics card compatibility problems?

I've recently had a new problem reported to me in the Driveway Visualiser, a piece of Shockwave 3D content that I've been maintaining since we built it in 2008.  I'm wondering if  recent updates to the Shockwave Plugin (e.g. 11.5.8.612) may be contributing to this...
          www.marshalls.co.uk/transform/driveway_visualiser/dv.asp
So I'd be interested to know if anyone else has had any new problems affecting old content. I tried reverting the dcr file to last year's version but the same problem still occurs, so it doesn't seem to be a recently-added bug in my code.  I think it could be either a compatibility problem between the graphics card and the plugin, or between the Director 11.0 dcr and the Shockwave 11.5 web player.
Because we need the DirectImage Xtra, it's Windows only.  For  each different computer that we've tested, the Driveway Visualiser (DV) will either always  work or always fail on that machine - regardless of whether IE or  Firefox is used.  All the test machines have DirectX 9.0c; all are  running Win XP SP3 apart from one laptop with SP2 and Intel 965 chipset  on which the DV fails.  Only one has Director (11.0) installed, and on  that the DV always works.  The problem is much more common on laptops,  so we reckon that Shockwave's ability to interface with the various  graphics cards might be the reason why it's not getting the image  property of a 3D cast member.
    So here's what's actually happening:
When you get to step 4 of the DV, after you've drawn round the shape of your driveway, it tries to grab the image of a 3D cast member referred to by the  variable gWorldMember, and fails with the "four parameters expected" error message, on  this line of code...
          zoomAfterImage.copyPixels(gWorldMember.image, zoomAfterImage.rect, gWorldMember.image.rect)
gWorldMember.image is being returned as <image:0> (not a usuable  image) and so its rect property does not exist, hence the crash.  This  line of code crashes whether or not there's a sprite of the relevant 3D  member on the stage at the time.  The member's defaultRect has been  temporarily changed so we can grab a 1024x1024 image off it.  Using  copyPixels, this image is resized down to the size of the zoomAfterImage  image variable (again 450x450).  This gives us an image at the original  size of 450x450, but with a softer image quality than if we'd grabbed  it from the 3D member at that size.
Is anyone suffering similar problems or aware of what Adobe has been changing in the player?  At the moment I just don't see how I can fix this by changing my code...

I had wondered if there was a clash between the Director 11.0 dcr and the Shockwave 11.5 player, so I downloaded the Director 11.5 trial and re-published it using that.
It didn't make any difference, so I'm left with my original suspicion that Shockwave is failing to interface with certain graphics hardware setups via directX, when it tries to read the image property of a 3D cast member.
