How to check (or uncheck) every song in my library at once

I have over 6000 songs in my itunes library, and had to sync a new ipad2 for my wife with limited storage, so I (agonizingly) unchecked 5000 of those songs one at a time to get her ipad2 filled up to just under her capacity. Now I am too lazy to recheck (add back in) all of those great songs individually. What is the shortcut to do this all at once. A help tutorial said "Command-Click" but I have no idea what the "Command" keys character is on my keyboard. I have control, option, etc. but not one that specifically says command. Please advise!

If your country's iTunes Store allows you to redownload purchased tracks, I'd delete your current copies of the tracks and try redownloading fresh copies. For instructions, see the following document:

Otherwise, I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
Find the items that are not playing properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the items, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" links next to the items.

alternate technique if you don't want to check/uncheck all your songs (just a bunch of them at once):
select a large number of songs in the library (using either shift-click or ctrl-click). right-click on the blue mass, and select "check selection" or "uncheck selection".

Why did icloud or match make a duplicates of every song in my library? how do I stop this?

really struggling with itunes since I signed on to "match" and "Icloud" All of a sudden I have dupes of every song on my windows laptop, one with a cloud with slash throug it, and one without. Now my laptop seems to have twice the memory takne up andtwice the number of songs in intunes, and my normaly "almost full" ipod is maxed out of memory, and can't sync anymore becaouse of all the duplicate songs. What happened????? How do I fix this how do I stop it from happening again? why did I ever sign up and pay for Itunes Match or Icloud. Nothing but problems since I did this.

Sometimes things have inconsistent labeling. Check your Recently Added playlist.

It is a manual process and the article fails to explain some of the potential pitfalls such as lost ratings and playlist membership, or that sometimes the same file can be represented by multiple entries in the library and that deleting one and recycling the file will break the other.
Use Shift > View > Show Exact Duplicate Items to display duplicates as this is normally a more useful selection. You need to manually select all but one of each group to remove. Sorting the list by Date Added may make it easier to select the appropriate tracks, however this works best when performed immediately after the dupes have been created. If you have multiple entries in iTunes connected to the same file on the hard drive then don't send to the recycle bin.
Use my DeDuper script if you're not sure, don't want to do it by hand, or want to preserve ratings, play counts and playlist membership. See this thread for background, this post for detailed instructions, and please take note of the warning to backup your library before deduping.
(If you don't see the menu bar press ALT to show it temporarily or CTRL+B to keep it displayed.)
The most recent version of the script can tidy dead links as long as there is at least one live duplicate to merge stats and playlist membership to and should cope sensibly when the same file has been added via multiple paths.

You mean uncheck them?
No, you don't have to manually do that.
in iTunes, highlight one song, any song. Click "Edit" and go down to "Select all". All your songs should be highlighted at this point. Again, click on one song, place a check next to that song and then right click on that song, go down to "Check selection" and all your songs should have a check before the song name.

If you manually manage music... on iTunes 11, go to the top left corner and there will be a pull down bar. Click "show menu bar". From there, go to view, then show sidebar. Magically, it looks like the previous versions of iTunes. Took me 3 hours of trial and error and searching through forums to figure out. Tried calling Apple to have them walk me through it and they said they wouldn't help me since I don't have Apple Care. Whatever. Hope this helps!!

How do I transfer a few songs from old library without bringing the entire old library to the new one?

I am trying to condense my itunes library from a desktop to a laptop. I only want a few songs from my original library so I can have more room on my ipod, I turned on home sharing so I could import the songs i wanted. then once I imported the select songs and synced my ipod, the entirety of my old library stayed and everything else went on.
itunes is saying that I have about 14.20 GB but my ipod says I only have 1.1 GB left....

and it was never answered so I figured I'd make a new thread to try and get some help. I have the same problem in that when I extracted the backup files from my external hdd on my new macbook it created 3-5 duplicates of all my songs. So like the quote above I have 3-5 duplicates of ALL songs from EACH separate artist.
Is it possible to somehow purge all of these duplicates at once, on a macroscopic level? It would take forever to modify individually, as I now have over 27,000 files (originally around 5,500 songs).

In music library I upload songs but some songs I uncheck in my library but they still remain on my device. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

One thing you can do is delete it from the device by sliding leftr on the song to make the delete icon apear and delete it there and also check the box in iTunes saying only sync checked songs and videos.

How to check exact nuber of songs stored on iPod 2nd Generation?

I would like to know how many SONGS (a number) are stored on my iPod Nano 2nd Gen. I can select the number of TITLES in Prefs on the iPod, but I do not really know if this includes Audio Books etc.
iTunes 10.0.1 gives me no hint as far as I can see, just the total amount used for storing songs. Even in the list view I can't find a way to display the number of songs in that list.
Any hint greatly appreciated!

Hi, deggie, thanks for your reply. As you can see in my question, I had gotten as far as checking settings on my Nano already. Since it's a german language version Pod I get the item «titles» as opposed to the english «songs» version you obviuously do. So, a title can be a song but an audio book as well in my book (no pun intended). So I'd first have to remove all non-song titles from the pod which is no convenient option to get the exact number of – only – songs.
Which in the end still does not anwer my question.
