How to check whether a network connected system is in
power on through its ip address? Is there a simple
way in java to check that?If you know that it normally has a server listening on a given port, then you can try to establish a connection on that port.
If the connection succeeds, it's powered on.
If the connection fails, you cannot know whether it's powered on or not. It may be on, but the server isn't running. It may be on with server running but the network path to that host may have a problem. It may be on, server running, good network path, etc., but the server may be very busy and the connection attempt may timeout. etc.

    Hello,
Would you by any chance know how to detect if a file system in the global zone is shared with any zones created from the global zone (either shared with readonly or read-write)?
    Thanks in advance.

Usually they're shared via lofs. So try 'df -kZ -F lofs'.

  • How to check on files backed up in Time Machine

I have recently converted to using Time Machine (vs. Chronosync) to backup files on my Macbook Pro.  I'm still using Chronosyn for my iMac, but may change to TimeMachine as well for simplicity sake.
Can someone tell me how I can view that backup up files?  The seem to be in some compressed format. In particular, I have my photography library in Lightroom, and want to be certain that all the data is stored preserving all the files and metadata as they are on my computer.

  • How to check if my operating system is actually Leopard

I was told that all new Macs now ship with Leopard. But I thought I saw something about Panther when I was doing the initial set up. I just received my new macbook pro 17 inch today. This is my first Mac. So sorry for being a bit wet behind the ears here. Has anyone else had this experience, getting a new computer with an older operating system. I just spent over $3000 (well the equivalent, I paid in Korean won, since I live here) and would have though I'd get the newest operating system. I think Panther is not even the second newest. I had this machine upgraded to 7200 rpm hard drive and 2.6 ghz, and didn't expect this. Because of the upgrades I had to special order, I think it came from Singapore. Who would I contact to find out about this. I heard somewhere that you can get a cheap $10 upgrade or something like that.
Also, even though I live in Korea, and ordered from the Korean store, I did call the English number, so was surprised to receive all the manuals in Korean. I hate reading manuals and things on a computer screen. Will apple send me english manuals I wonder?

The way to find the operating system is exactly as Ray describes. The manuals that get shipped with the Mac don't have much more to them than standard boilerplate. The fact that you are set up, on the net, posting to a forum, means that there isn't anything in there you don't already know! There are far more details in the pdf manuals on the installation disk: "Welcome to Leopard".

You can consider increasing the post delay at the bios level.in most bios hou find such an option.

  • How do I restore my entire system from Time Machine?

I went to the Apple store a few weeks ago and the guy said I had to completely wipe my hard drive and restore it to get the kinks out. He backed the computer up to an external hard drive and wiped it. He gave me the instructions to complete the restorations but now it wouldn't work.

  • How to check whether the system has eclipse environment: urgent

    Hi gurus
can you please tell me how to check whether my crm system has eclipse envirionment.
    Thanks
    shashi

There is no way to check whether a system is used productively or not, I believe what you mean is checking a client is productive or not in an ABAP-stack based system. Remember although a SAP ABAP system is identified by a SID but from a business perspective the system is recognized by a client, as it is a unique business identity.
Thus, to check whether the client is productive or not in txn SCC4 check the role of the client, it will show you the correct status. The data of SCC4 is stored in table T000, you can also opt to check that.

  • How to make a service available at boot.

Can someone tell me how to make a service available at boot time via smf ? The question is for a generic service ( network/telnet for example ) and for a site one.
Is it enough to enable it via svcadm ?
    Thanks.

yeah all you need to do is
    svcadm enable /network/telnet
this will enable the service then and next time when you boot the system
(or i.e. svcadm disable apache2 if you want to disable the httpd)
have you tried man on svcadm?

  • How to set kernel module options at boot? (solved)

I've got a netbook with bluetooth supported by the omnibook driver. In rc.conf, I left the modules autoloading on, and added 'omnibook' to the modules array, because it wasn't automatically loaded. Then I added the following line to /etc/modules.d/modprobe.conf:
    options omnibook ectype=12 wifi=1 bluetooth=1
But I still don't get a Bluetooth device after the boot. I only get it if I run:
sudo rmmod omnibook ; sudo modprobe omnibook ectype=12 wifi=1 bluetooth=1
How should I set these options at boot time? I couldn't find any other orientation in the wiki. Thanks!
Last edited by leonardof (2010-04-29 01:58:24)

The omnibook module isn't something I've ever used but there is no need to include "sudo" in the options line.  How about trying:
    options omnibook ectype=12 wifi=1 bluetooth=1

  • No Low Ink Notification / How to check ink levels

I don't know how it disappeared, but I no longer have an HP icon, and never get low ink notifications.  I have nothing "HP" in program files, so can't figure out how to check the ink levels.  Every time I lose color I have to change both cartridges.  Printer prints fine.  Any suggestions?  Hopefully I don't have to disconnect everything and start installation over - there's always a chance it won't work when I'm done.  Technologically inclined Im not.  Thanks for any assistance you can give.  Printer is PSC1510 All-In-One.

If you press the Cancel and the Start Copy Color button on this printer at the same time and release them, it'll print a Self Test Report that'll have an ink level gauge on it. you can check it there.

  • TS4517 Macbookpro can't recognize bootable usb at boot time

I created a windows usb with bootcamp assistant, "Create a Windows 7 or later version install disk" with a windows 7 ISO image.
I went through bootcamp's "Install or remove Windows 7" option and partitioned 21GB from my harddisk for my windows partition (it's named "BOOTCAMP", MS-DOS (FAT)).
I plugged in my usb and restarted my laptop. I pressed option during boot to go into the boot menu. Somehow, my usb stick doesn't show up in the boot menu. I only see my normal boot partition and a recover partition. I tried removing the USB stick while I am still in that menu and plugging it back to see if that will fix the problem. It did not.
Strangely, I noticed that my USB stick does not light up when I unplugged it and reinserted it when my mac is in the boot menu. Normally the usb stick will light up when inserted into this usb port.
I thought my ISO is not bootable so I tried another windows 7 ISO and the results remain the same.
Is it possible that my model is too old such that it doesn't allow booting from USB during boot time? Is it possible that older ROMS do not check for USB drives during boot time (hence explaining why my usb doesn't light up)?
I can assure you that my usb port is functioning correctly

I have the same issue on a late 2013 Macbook Pro 15inch. I booted into Recovery mode, and selected to install new Mavericks, and chose my USB drive as the target.
The installer correctly downloads to the USB, and the bootable USB works fine on my old 2010 macbook pro. However, the USB drive does not show when i boot with option pressed. It is as if the Macbook just dont permit booting from USB - eventhough the drive was created on the very same mac.
Anyone have a clue as to how to boot from USB?

That's correct. The DVD drive is the SuperDrive. Unfortunately, you need the original SuperDrive in your computer in order to install Windows, and it's not possible to upgrade the firmware because only Apple provides updates.
If you haven't got the SuperDrive, you have to buy one and install it again. Fortunately, there's a solution because iFixit sells the original SuperDrive which came with your computer > http://www.ifixit.com/MacBook-Parts/MacBook-Pro-15-Inch-Unibody-Mid-2009-Mid-201 0-Early-2011-8x-SATA-SuperDrive-Used/IF161-033?utm_source=ifixit_guide&utm_mediu m=guide_intro&utm_content=required_items&utm_term=macbook_pro_15%22_unibody_mid_ 2010 It's expensive, but it's the only solution.
To install the SuperDrive, you can follow this how-to > http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/MacBook+Pro+15-Inch+Unibody+Mid+2010+Optical+Drive+R eplacement/3074/1
