How to check instance alert.log in RAC 10g ASM environment?
i know to use Grid control or OEM check instance alert.log?
But since in ASM the alert.log is not recognized, how to check it in OS level just like regular non-RAC checking?
or the best way to check it ?
thanks a lot!user620464 wrote:

thanks a lot!Well if you mean that you have put the alert over asm storage than where did it mention to put alert file over ASM? Is not like an o/s where one can go and read the file and surely, neither we need striping or mirroring of it either. I am not sure that there is any way to do so over ASM storage.

How to check SAN disk is shared or dedicated disk
Hi,
I would like to know,
From server side Is there way to identify SAN disk is shared between different nodes or its dedicated SAN disk. (Without reaching Storage team).
Regards,
Manjunath SulladHi Mandy,
Thanks for the reply, Yeah we can get disk details from get-disk,
I am looking specific related to disk is shared or not
You can try to use SCSIcmd utility from Symantec. It would allow you to log and clear SCSI-2 & SCSI-3 ("old school" and persistent) reservations. See:
How to use the SCSIcmd utility to perform various SCSI-2 and SCSI-3 reservation related actions
http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH72086
Start with obvious logging and if disk is actually shared between multiple hosts it would have non-zero reservation tables. Example of the output:
Syntax Example: scsicmd -d14 -sscsi_reserved_status
Below are some example outputs of what will be seen with this command depending on the reservation type and status:
SCSI-2 Output when there is a reservation on the disk:
Harddisk14
Scsi Address
Length : 0x8
PortNumber : 0x2
PathId : 0x1
TargetId : 0x2
Lun : 0x45
Harddisk14 is currently SCSI-2 reserved by SCSI Address (0x2, 0x1, 0x0, 0x1) of the computer: MTV2850-07.
SCSI-3 Output when there is a reservation on the disk
Harddisk14
Scsi Address
Length : 0x8
PortNumber : 0x2
PathId : 0x1
TargetId : 0x2
Lun : 0x45
Harddisk 14 has SCSI-3 key(s) registered.
SCSI3 registered keys on harddisk14
Key: 7856341278563412
Key: 7856341278563412
Harddisk14 is currently under SCSI-3 reservation
SCSI3 reservation holder key on harddisk14
Key: 7856341278563412
Harddisk14 is currently being SCSI-3 reserved on the computer: MTV2850-07.
SCSI2 or SCSI3 output when there is no reservation on the disk:
Harddisk14
Scsi Address
Length : 0x8
PortNumber : 0x2
PathId : 0x1
TargetId : 0x2
Lun : 0x45
Harddisk14 of the computer: MTV2850-07 is not under any SCSI reservation.
Good luck :)

How to Check the Disk I/O in ASM
Hi All,
I have installed the 2 node RAC (10.2.0.4.0) on Enterprise Linux 5.2. I am using ASM to manage the Database Storage using EMC SAN (CX 320). I have configured the seperate LUNs for Datafiles, Redo Log, Archive logs using RAID 1+0. Not using multipathing currently.
How can I check the IO activity , hotspots, disk usage etc from ASM instance? Also looking for your expert advices to monitor the system I/O. Any scripts or utility from where I can back track the cause of High IO. (Using iostat and oswatcher now but it is hard to interpret the output).
Thanks
NaveedHi Naveed
Herewith a query to see the disk usage
select name, type, total_mb, free_mb, required_mirror_free_mb,
usable_file_mb from v$asm_diskgroup;
Otherwise is it possible for you to reach the ASM OEM home page on your server ?
it contains the following items :
The status of the ASM instance
A chart that shows the used and free space of each disk group
A list of databases that are serviced by the ASM instance
Alerts and metrics
Links to the ASM Performance, Administration, and Configuration pages -
Airport Extreme - USB Shared Disk Access
I've configured my AEBS for wireless internet and I have a USB ext hd connected to it as well. Airport Utility recognizes it, but how do I access it from my computer? I've followed the steps to enable file sharing on the WAN, but I don't know where to locate the drive.
Help?
macbook pro Mac OS X (10.4.10)Assuming that you have in fact set up your AEBS correctly and that AirPort disk is enabled, you should be able to connect to it several ways. The simplest way is to launch the AirPort Disk Utility and tell it to auto-mount the drive whenever you are connected to your AEBS. If you are like me, however, and don't like to have your external hard drive mounted all the time, then you can manually mount it by navigating to "Network" in the Finder, selecting your base station, and clicking the "Connect" button. You should then be presented with a list of the hard drives connected to your AEBS which you can select from and mount.

How to check external disk capacity?
Hi,
Can someone tell me how can I check the free space capacity of an external disk connected to my MacBook Air?
Thx, HansHI
Open Finder.
In left column, click on your external drive to hi-light it.
Now select File in top of screen menu, then select Get Info, about half way down the drop down menu.
This will show all features of your external drive.

How to check that whose access my system
i am use computer and i want to check how many request comes my computer and which files or folder shered at that time ????
I like to use netbeans which one should i need to download? You'd think you would go to the Netbeans website and find out, but I'm silly like that. Either a recent JDK 6 or the latest JDK 7 will do just fine. I would install Java anywhere except in program files. I install all my Java stuff in a directory called "java" myself, so I have C:\java\jdk6, c:\java\eclipse37, c:\java\tomcat7, etc. I never have to search for my stuff that way.
(of course being a proper computer savvy user I partioned my harddrive to reserve the C drive specifically for the OS only, so it is in fact e:\java).
2)How to find apache tomcat server is installed in by PC or not how to test that ?Use the search function of your OS of course. Its not even a Java related question. -
11gR2 Verification of shared storage accessibility
Friends,
I do not understand how is this possible. I am trying to apply 11.2.0.2.5 psu on a 2-node cluster running on RHEL 5.5 vms. Followed ORACLE-BASE examples when installed this laptop RAC.
I am not using any ACFS and none of GI and DB homes are shared. But, on node 2, cluvfy THINKS database home is shared.

Any help?
Thank you.Hi,
CLUFVY COMP SSA checks if the used storage/location is shared.
If you do "cluvfy comp ssa -t software" cluvfy checks if your software home is shared.
It tells you it is not. Hence the checks fails (which is correct, because you said DB Home is not shared).
So where is the problem?
CLUVFY COMP SSA only makes sense to check the sharedness. If it is not shared, then there is no sense in testing for it.

RAC with ASM and shared disks?
Hi all,
Can someone clarify this little point please. If I use ASM as my storage with a RAC database, I have to configure these nodes to shared disks. At least this is what the UG says ...
When you create a disk group for a cluster or add new disks to an existing clustered disk group, you only need to prepare the underlying physical storage on shared disks. The shared disk requirement is the only substantial difference between using ASM in a RAC database compared to using it in a single-instance Oracle database. ASM automatically re-balances the storage load after you add or delete a disk or disk group.
With my 9i databases, I used HCAMP to allow for concurrent VG access among the nodes. My questions are ...
1) How can I share this storage as stated above without using HACMP? My understanding is with 10g I no longer have to use it.
2) Can Oracle's clusterware be used to share storage? I have not seen any indication that it does.
3) Does this mean I still have to use HCAMP with 10g crs to allow shared storage?
Thank you"...meaning visible to all the participating nodes, which you don't need HACMP..."
This is one step forward, but still not clear. On unix, storage is presented to ASM as raw volumes. As such, how can these volumes be visible on all nodes without using HCAMP (or whatever 3rd party clusterware you are using). Presenting raw volumes on several nodes is something that is not done at OS level without using some clusterware functionality.
I do understand that storage or LUNs can be shared at the SAN fabric level. But then, these LUNs are carved in bug chunks and I would like to be able to allocate storage at much granular level using raw partitions.
So all in all, here are my questions ...
1) On unix platforms, can ASM disks be LUNs, raw volumes, or may be both?
2) If raw volumes, how are these shared (or made visible) without using 3rd party clusterware? Having managed 9i RAC, it was the function of HACMP to make these volumes visible on all nodes, otherwise, we had to imp/exp VGs on all nodes to make them visible.

Firefox is a very busy piece of software. It's using large amounts of CPU time and disk access. It puts my usage at low priority, so I have to wait for some time to be able to use my pointer or keyboard. I don't know what it uses all that CPU and disk access time for, but it's of no use to me. It often takes off with massive use of resources when I'm not doing anything, and I may not have use of my pointer for several minutes. How can I shut down most of this so I can use the browser to get my work done. I just want to use the web site access part of the software, and drop all the extra. I don't want Firefox to be able to recover after a crash. I just want to browse with a minimum of interference from Firefox. I would think that this is the most commonly asked question.
Firefox consumes a lot of CPU resources

How to create Shared RAW disk on solaris 10?
Hi,
I have built two solaris machine using VMware. I am going to configuare RAC. how to create shared RAW disk for ocr, votedisk and asm?
OS version = 5.10 32 bit
Thanksuse openfiler ( software based SAN) if do not have shared disk storage system, this is an appliance kinda software can behave as SAN storage, it can be installed on VM as a guest machine and rest configuration remain same as storage and your RAC deployment.
http://www.openfiler.com/community/download
alternativly you can follow below method

Hi,
I plan to use shared disks to create Oracle RAC using ASM. What options do I have? OCFS2? or any other option?
Can some one lead me to a documnet on how can I use the shared disks for RAC?
Thanks.javed555 wrote:
I plan to use shared disks to create Oracle RAC using ASM. What options do I have? You have two options:
1. Create shared virtual, i.e. file-backed disks. These files will be stored in /OVS/sharedDisk/ and made available to each guest
2. Expose physical devices directly to each guest, e.g. an LVM partition or a multipath LUN.
With both options, the disks show up as devices in the guests and you would then provision them with ASM, exactly the same way as if your RAC nodes were physical.
OCFS2 or NFS are required to create shared storage for Oracle VM Servers. This is to ensure the /OVS mount point is shared between multiple Oracle VM Servers. -
HOW DO I INSTALL DISK OF NEW 10.6 SNOW LEOPARD ? NEW MAC DO NOT HAVE DVD ACCESS . BUT I WORK ON OLD MAC 10.4. TIGER THAT DO HAVE DVD PLAYER . I KNOW THAT SHOULD BE EAZY . THANKS
You'll need to provide some more information .... what current mac mini do you have? Click on the apple in the left corner of the menu bar, click about this mac, and what does it say for processor, memory, and os x version?
When you say you have no DVD, do you have the mac mini server or is the DVD broken?
You can't do anything with 10.6 Snow Leopard on a PowerPC mini, however, if it is an Intel-based mini, you could probably hook up the systems in target disk mode to install 10.6.
