How to choose which specs to get with 15 inch rMBP

I want to make the transition from a PC to my first mac and looking at the 15 inch rMBP. I just dont know which specs to consider upgrading or if the base model is the right one for me. I need a new computer for school and I am a general use computer user: school documents/presentations, online research (multiple open tabs), and a normal amount of video streaming. I think my use falls into the base model range, but I just dont want to get stuck with not enough. Is there a decent way to help decide?

I am currently running about a 5 y/o Dell studio. It has done everything I needed so far. I need to uprgrade bcs the school I will be attending has software that my computer wont support it (I dont know what that means bcs im not computer literate). Over time my machine has been slowing and "not responding" might be a once a day occurence when multiple tabs are open and streaming video. current machine specs are:
Intel Core 2 Duo Processor 2.2GHz
4GB DDR2 RAM
320GB Hard Drive
Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit)
I dont know how or if I can check how much of the memory i have used up, but judging by these specs I think the base model might be the best option. I am not huge into pic/video editing but may have a need for it occasionally.
Also, I dont need to purchase for a couple of months, would it be best to wait and see what apple does in the next couple months, i know speculation, or should I just get it and start getting used to the transition from PC to Mac.

If so, delete the Gmail account from your iPad and test if a message sent with your POP account which will be the only email account available with the iPad's Mail app is recieved from your POP account/address.
If not, something else is wrong or on play that has nothing to do with the iPad.

How to choose which Aperture duplicate photo to keep

I use Aperture 3.4.5 on an iMac with OS 10.8.4 and, like many others who have written to this community, I have acquired lots of duplicates because some years ago I moved from iPhoto to Aperture. Those collections are mostly referenced in their original collections. I quite understand how these duplicates came to be. Using Duplicate Annihilator - Aperture I have found a great many (4 thousand) pairs of duplicate pictures out of a library of 60 thousand, and as has been explained by several responders, usually one is called iPhoto Original and the other iPhoto Externally Edited or iPhoto Edited. I have never knowingly used an external editor, but I do understand that, in iPhoto, just rotating the photo from portrait to landscape will create a copy, something that does not happen with Aperture. So that is why the dupliocates exist. My question is basically, now that I have found them, how to choose which one of the two versions to keep, because there seems no reason to keep these duplicates.
Obviously if I have made noticeable changes, or added many key words, then I want to keep that one. The duplicates in question are in two-photo Stacks. The original will have a size of 3 MB or 4Mb and the copy will have a smaller size, maybe as little as 1.5 or 2 MB. Sometimes the copy has just been rotated (and the file size is made smaller). With Aperture I can rotate the original iPhoto picture and maintain the larger size. Sometimes (but not always) there is a name change from xxxx to xxxx.jpg. But even without a name change, the edited or rotated file is smaller. I have examined the two images at high resolution, in Aperture, and I cannot see any difference, though they have very different sizes. This surprised me; there seems no benefit from the larger size, though there is a slight shift of the histogram of colors. (I do not plan to print any of these at high resolution, just show them on the iMac or a video.)
So my question is: is it desirable to keep the larger original file, though I do not see a difference in the image on my 27in iMac? I have many of these duplicates to choose between, and I would like to understand the consequences of my choice before I delete things.

I would keep the larger as long as storage space wasn't an issue and if it was I'd look at increasing storage before deleting the larger file.
Think of it this way the larger files contains more data, more data means not only a better image (even if you cannot see a difference on the monitor) but also more options when you go to edit the image.
Cropping is just one obvious example. A larger file will give you more options when it comes to cropping the image.
You can always create the smaller from the larger, you can;t go the other way. Once you delete the larger file the data is lost for good.

MacBook Air: thin, light, fast SSD storage. Cons: not upgradable, expensive.
MacBook Pro: cheaper, upgradable, better graphics card, more storage and RAM for the buck. Cons: not as light
you'll get more for the money with the MacBook Pro. the Air is better as a second computer for people.

I want to put songs onto my ipod but not my "music" playlist, I have a playlist that I want put onto my ipod but just not all my music, does anyone know how I can choose which playlist gets put onto my ipod? Thanks

Welcome to AD!
It's simple, but you have to have "manually managed music" unchecked in the ipod summary tab.
Once that is unchecked, you can go to teh iPod's music tab and check the option to "Only sync these playslists".

How to identified which instance is associated with which Listener

i created one DB instance. suppose named as "B". but there is already another DB instance present. Named as "A".
Then i created one listener for DB instace "B".
Now my Que. is that HOW i can identify which instance is associated with which Listener,.
2) if i create listener then a service also created. if i stopped that service and then can i fire query OR Login again, WHAT will be the expected result.
I tried by asking people for my answer. but not satisfied.

see the file listener.ora. path is usually, $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin/listener.ora
You will see which listener is associated with which file,

Choose which ANE to import with compiler constants

Hi,
I've released a iOS app and I would like to upload a Android version.
In order to do that, I've created two compiler constants: CONFIG::ANDROID and CONFIG::IOS.
I'm having problems when I try to choose which ANE import in a class. Basically, the import does not work if it's inside a if.
In the code sample mobile.LIB is loaded but com.myane is not when CONFIG::IOS is set to true

If I remove the first line of the code everything works fine.
Does anybody know if there is a issue with ANE and compile constants in Adobe Air?

There is a Adobe Air bug (reported) with this issue, routes with asterisks fail inside a condition in compiler time.

You cannot predetermine which conflicting records will be retained and which will be tossed in the event of a conflict. The Conflict Manager will display both records side by side whenever there is a conflict that cannot be resolved by the Sync Engine, and ask you to choose which one to retain on a case by case basis.
You can instruct the Conflict Manager to handle any remaining similar records in the same manner, but you cannot review those records and must trust that they are indeed similar without being able to see any evidence that they are.

Choosing which line to copy with AppleScript

Hi guys,
I am having a simple problem making applescript choose which line from a textwrangler document to copy. It's very simple, all I want it to do is the following.
1)Check to see if line 22 is just a carriage return
2) If it is, copy line 13 to the clipboard
3) If it's not, copy line 22 to the clipboard
My current code is this:

None of those devices can be the "major". The master data is that which is held in the cloud, all the other devices merely sync with that.

Multiple displays - how to choose which an Excel file will open in?

I have two displays hooked up to my Mac Mini (extended desktop). Each time I open an Excel spreadsheet it always open in the display with the menu bar, despite me moving and re-saving while it's in the second display.
Q. How can I get Excel spreadsheets to always open in the larger, second display?
I suspect it is a question of dragging the files window into the second display while either "cntrl" or "command" key pressed, but I haven't had any luck with that.
Mac Mini running 10.6.8
Dell 23" display (Apple menu bar appears here and where files always appear when opened)
Apple 30" Cinema Display (secondary monitor where I want the Excel files to appear when opened)

impossible to connect with Imatch and I don't know why my itune is not anymore connected to itune Match.

How to set which E-Mail gets used on a group

I use groups to send specfic E-Mails to specific people. I have two diferent groups with the same people on it, but the E-Mail should be sent to diferent adresses (ex. Home, or Work).
Since Lion, I can't define anymore in the Group "Home" which E-Mail address from a specific contact should be used...
How do I do that?

I have the same problem. The Address Book Help clearly says to use the Edit>Edit Distribution List.
However, that option is grayed out.
Any ideas on why this would be and how to correct it?
I have already tried turning off Contacts in iCloud in preferences and then waiting and turning it back on. No change.

How to choose which monitor displays "full screen preview"

I have a dual monitor setup and have Bridge configurated so that on the left monitor I have the panes "maps", "filter", "keywords" and "content" and on the right monitor (which is a better and callibrated monitor) I have the pane "preview".
Now if I select one or more tumbnails in the "content" pane on the left monitor, they show up in the "preview" pane on the right monitor.
Until recent, when I selected a single tumbnail in the "content" pane (left monitor) it showed up in the "preview" pane (right monitor) and upon hitting the space bar it was shown full screen on the same right monitor and upon left-click on the full screen immage, I got a 100% preview, again still on the right monitor.
Now the problem is that suddenly, upon hitting the space bar, the full screen preview is no longer shown on the right monitor but is shown on the left monitor. (Same problem for the 100% preview).
I hope I made clear of myself and that anyone knows how I can change this back again?

The window was indeed expanded to both monitors and the monitors were aranged correctly but upon your sugestion I temporarely switched everything back to default "one monitor setup" and then back to "two monitor with extended window". I also did a reset of my workspace as sugested.
The result is that everything is back and working as it shood. Problem is solved.

How much extra data can you get with Share Everything?

It says that if you need more than 10 GB you can buy 2 GB for $10. Is that a 1 time shot or could someone buy an additional 20 GB for $100? Or even an extra 100 GB for $500 if they wanted too?

The ones that would, will quickly change their minds when some of their friends start skipping payments for their usage and the person responsible is left holding the bag.
A) I doubt any extar money I pay will IMMEDIATELY be put to use expanding the network. My extra usage is happening NOW while improvements to infrastructure take YEARS.
B) 10 friends? maybe not. 10 family members? maybe. For example under the old plans you couldn't have more than 5 to an account. My friend recently got married to a woman that has 4 kids. All teenage years and older. He has 3 himself. That's 9 people. No way they could all have been on the same plan. Now they can. Whether that's wise or not that's their decision but at least it's an option. And if everyone wanted 2 GB or more data each that would require the purchase of several 2 GB add-ons.
