How to clean fingerprints off screen

My kids keep touching my iMac's screen and getting it all greasy. The owner's manual says to clean it by dampening the cloth that came with the computer, but all that does is make it smudgy. Any suggestions?

Put a teaspoon of regular white vinegar in a cup of water and then barely dampen a rag with it. Clean the screen taking care to not drip any on the computer. Then dry with a soft towel.

  • How do i clean fingerprints off my iMac 27" screen?

I have the 27" late 2012 model iMac and was wondering how to clean fingerprints off the screen. While my family does a videochat we kinda move the scrrenup, down, left or right to view the whole room and nov there are fingerprints on the screen. If i clean them the screen becomes even worse.I cant buy anything too expensive.
    Thanks,

I have a similar problem though I have the 21.5", in my case I followed the cleaning directions exactly (except in a few cases where I got some of the cleaning fluid on the display, old habit I guess as that's what the instructions on the cleaner I occasionally use says).
Anyway, even when I follow the directions exactly I am left with smear marks on the glass that can take at least a fortnight to completely eradicate. Regardless of whether I am using water or an LCD cleaning solution.
Something about the newer anti-glare coating is preventing proper cleaning of the display!
Is there a workaround solution, an officially licensed cleaning solution designed for the new coating, or am I doomed to take weeks to clean my screen each time?
I didn't have this problem with my early 2006 iMac 17", with that one I could use the cleaning solution and a quick wipe with both sides of the provided cloth and the screen was like new.

    Turn off screen curtain
If VoiceOver is on and the screen is black, but you can still use the device by pressing volume up and volume down, you may have screen curtain on.
Try triple-tapping using three fingers on the device display to turn off screen curtain.

  • How do I turn off screen saver whilst running time machine backup?

My hard drive failed today when my MacBook Pro took a tumble from the sofa.
I have replaced it and am trying to restore from a time machine backup.
I have to use the snow leopard installation disc that came with the machine, once I get into disk utility I can format the new drive and select restore from time machine backup.
This all runs great until the screen saver kicks in, normally around 1% into the restore. This crashes the restore and gives me the grey screen of death, it's done it four times now.
Is there anyway to disable the screensaver? Or will I need to install snow leopard first and then software update and then restore from backup once I can turn off the screen saver in system properties.
I paid a lot of money for the time capsule and having these issues the first time I truly need it is disconcerting.

    Hi Mewnor,
Is there anyway to disable the screensaver?
This might help you if your computer is running Mountain Lion (OS X 10.8.3). I can not help you if your computer is running Snow Leopard.

  • 6300 = how to clean 'underside' of screen?

    "Underside"?
I seem to have collected massive dust under the screen of my Nokia 6300.
In my older Nokias, there was always a way to dissemble the front face of the phone, to clean both the glass, and the screen itself.
I haven't found the MAGIC BUTTONS, so I thought I'd show up here and ask someone intelligenter than I (heh heh)
    ZENmud

You need to visit a nokia care point/service centre to get it cleaned.
It will be a free service if your phone is under warranty, and they won't need to send it away.
If you open it yourself you will void your warranty and risk damaging the phone.

  • How to clean everything off iBook

    Hello folks,
I am trying to prep an iBook to give it away (sorry, spoken for), and I need to remove all the personal info, files, keychains as well as reset settings, etc. I haven't ever done this and I wondered if there was any reliable way to go about it? Is there some sort of "Restore" function that will essentially revert the machine to OS X and get rid of the rest?
Sorry if this is already out there, I couldn't find anything other than some info on re-installing OS X, and we don't have the disks for that iBook....
    Thanks for any advice,
    Bryan

The best way is to erase with the zero out data option and then reinstall, but since you don't have the Mac OS X Installation Disk... here's what I would do.
Create a brand new user account using System Preferences Accounts pane. Make sure it has Admin privileges. Log out and Login in to that account and make sure things look normal for a new user. Set that user up for automatic login, but note the password somewhere so that the new owner has access. Then do this to your old user account.

Look around the hard drive to make sure there are no personal files saved in non-user areas (like at the top level). Delete any applications that you are not including with the iBook. Then, to make sure deleted files are not recoverable, go to Disk Utility. Select the Startup disk in the sidebar and go to the Erase tab. Click on Erase Free Space... button. Select the Zero Out Deleted Files option and erase.

  • Turn off screen while using Drive

    Hi,
How can I turn off screen, to save battery, while using Drive? When I press power button, screen turns off, but I lose voice navigation.

    Hi karlo1020lumia,
    Welcome to the forum!
What is the model of your device? If you're referring to the Nokia Drive application, this is a normal behavior. The screen must be active for the application to work properly. If your concern is about the phone's battery, you can check this link for the tips on how to prolong the battery life of the device:

    Thanks

    Hi Eric and Markus,
We found the Solution and off course we did good R & D, Finally I am able to implement the fix to Clear the Command Line History.
All I did is I Disabled the Permissions for Code Folder (Right Click > Permissions > Deny) in Regedit.
Thats It, The Commands stopped storing in the History.
    Thank you Erick and Markus.

  • How to clean the dust inside the screen of the iPod Touch?

    Hi everybody,
lately some dust entered inside the screen of my iPod Touch.
At first it looked like one or two pixels were gone bad, but it is just some annoying dust.
The problem is that I cannot figure out any way to remove it.
I tried a gentle blow from the connector hole but the result was worse.
Any idea on how to clean the screen inside?
I hope it is not necessary to go to an Apple Center and pay for the "cleaning service".
    Regards,
    Andrea

    It sounds safe to use
'Falcon's® "Professional" Dust-Off® "XL" compressed-gas is the perfect product for removing dust from your color transparencies before making scans or copy slides; it's also great for removing dust from cameras, lenses, computers and other electronic equipment. Each 12 oz. disposable can comes with its own trigger value and a 4.75" nozzle extension (a red tube) that allows you to place precise bursts of compressed air just where you want it.'
Check the directions on the back... also check the contents. Normally anything like that will inform you of contaminants harmful to delicate electrical devices.
If its just compressed air make sure you keep the can well back from the source.. and unplug the G5 (take it somewhere you don't mind dust.. there no point doing this in situe, just for it to suck it back in again!)
Also.. as mentioned.. keep the can upright (as the air is decompressed the can gets very cold)

    Hi j2399123,
It sounds like your screen recording is doing what it was designed to do, capture what is happening on your screen, with optional voice over with the microphone.
Screen recording is for recording what you see on the screen, it is not a "video capture" option, like for capturing a movie with sound that is playing on your screen.
For the QuickTime recording options, check out "Recording with QuickTime Player" in
Mac Basics: QuickTime Player creates, plays, edits, and shares video and audio files
