How To Clean Glossy Marks Off My Aluminum Macbook

As of some days ago, I am the proud new owner of the new aluminum macbook. I am very pleased with my purchase. The only slight problem I have is with the developing glossy marks on the space bar and on the upper part of the trackpad. From the outset, I must say that I have been meticulous when it comes to keeping everything clean and in good working order; but I have noticed recently these rather garish glossy marks occurring. Can anyone give me a good method of how I might get rid of them? I've already tried iClean spray, a small quantity of water, and a good bit of elbow grease. Still, the glossy marks remain! Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I try and accept the marks on my Mac like I accept fact that Isabella Rossellini's beauty is evolving.
I did buy a silicone key board cover (the one made for MacAir). It semi protects it from liquid spills and I can take it off the clean it really well if need be and return it to the mac.
The glossy bits you describe are probably oil from your hands so unless you plan to wear gloves its going to happen.
I also own a iphone and immediately went out and bought a screen shield and rubber type case. I used it for a day and finally came to the conclusion that it ruined the beautiful lines of the iphone and I took it off and will accept the first bumps and scratches as a natural part of life.
I will use the protective case when I am rock climbing but I now think of the protective case on the iphone like plastic covers on my grandmothers living room couch.

    Help,
i have just put a screen protector on my iphone 4 and where there was something on the film it seems to have eaten into the screen. is there a way to clean these marks off?

I wouldn't worry.  Assuming you haven't hacked the phone you cannot have installed any viruses or spyware just by clicking a link in an email.  Sounds like the page you accessed could not be read on the phone anyway, or it was just a dead link.

  • How can I take lion off of my MacBook Pro and go back to using Snow Leopard

How can I take lion off of my MacBook Pro because it has too much problems with the new operating system, I have talked to Apple support for both computers and still nothing happens I think they know that there's something wrong and they don't know how to fix it are there working on fixing it. So how can I put snow leopard Mac on my computer so that it works every time, there's a lot of good features in Lion but there's a lot of bad features and especially when it comes to turning on your computer and the memory that it has held so if one item is missing then it doesn't work and you have to reboot the computer to get it to work but I still like my Mac.

  • How to clean finger prints off the screen??

Some people say buy solutions from a computer store like iKear $30 and others say just get a vinegar solution and dilute with water 50% and that would do the trick. Any thoughts as to what is best to use?
    Max

The user guide that was in the box when you purchased your MBP says to simply use water. I clean my screen off with a damp washcloth (just dampen one corner) & then dry it with the other side of the washcloth. Make sure you do not press very hard on the screen!! This method works great on the rest of your laptop too. It leaves the surface feeling like new, especially the keys. Two other things to note: 1) I used the word "damp" not "soaking wet." Ring out the corner of the towel as much as you can.
    2) remove the battery & disconnect the power adapter
I don't have the guide with me for the exact words, but I clearly remember that it said not to use chemical solutions. Vinegar is acidic (even when 50/50 with water)...common sense would tell you not to put that on an expensive LCD display!! So just use water & a soft towel. It's what Apple recommends & it's much cheaper (free, in fact) than third-party chemical cocktails.
    Merry Christmas to all!

  • How to clean glossy screen?

    Whats up...
Just wondering if anyone knows how to properly clean the MacBook Pro Glossy Display. I have Iklear but afraid to use it, I dont want to scratch the screen or something...
    Any suggestions?

iklear has a separate product for glossy screens, check out their website.
You may want to take your laptop and submerge it in a bath...... no please don't do that...
The other supported way is to take a microfiber cloth, dampened with water and clean that way. Your instruction manual with the computer should also have detailed instructions on cleaning the display.
Regardless, I would suggest the iKlear products for glossy screens... make sure to click on GLOSSY!!!!

  • Selling Computer - Like to know how to clean all info off the computer

    Hi All
I am selling a 17 Inch Imac and I'm trying to find out how I wipe all information from the system so there is no personal info for the new user to see.

The best way is to zero out all the data by ins erting your install disc, then going to Disk Utility, selecting the hard drive you want to erase and then chosing either zero out data,7 or 35 passes. It will take about a minute for each GB of data for each pass, the more passes, the longer it takes, but the more secure your disc is.
    Hope this helps,
    Miriam

  • How can I get files off of a MacBook Pro stuck in sleep mode?

A bit of a backstory: Recently my mid-2008 MacBook Pro stopped working. When I try to boot it up, the screen just stays black and the idle light flashes perpetually. I've reset the NVRAM and SMC, even attached it to an external monitor, but nothing works. After a lot of research, I'm pretty sure it's a problem with the hall effect switch.
But I digress; I don't actually need this computer repaired, as I have a second (newer) MacBook Pro I can use. However, there are some files on the old one that I'd like to retrieve. And yes, I've tried booting into target disk mode, which unfortunately doesn't work for reasons listed above.
Essentially what I'm asking is, is there a way I could transfer the files off the old computer to the new one? I know, I should take it to the Apple store, but that's not really an option right now due to personal reasons. I'd just like to know if anyone could suggest another way.
    Thanks a lot in advance.

Remove the drive and connect it to your other Mac with a SATA to USB adapter. Copy whatever files you want off the drive.

  • How do I get files off of a macbook pro that doesn't have a working trackpad or keyboard? Is it possible to connect it to a new macbook pro?

I spilled water on my old macbook pro and now the keyboard and trackpad no longer work.  I have a new one but want to get some files off of the old one.  What would be the easiest way of doing this.  The old one also has a password so I'm not sure I could get into it anyway.

You could remove the hard drive and put it into an external enclosure. You can connect it to another Mac via Target Disk Mode and transfer the files you want that way. If you put the drive into an external enclosure you can use Migration Assistant to transfer your Home folder to the new computer.

  • How to clean out some files on my macbook air??

So on  my mac every time i open it, theres a message that pops up saying my start up disk is full so i go to about mac and then click storage, their it says that my 'movies' and 'others' is taking up a hug amount of space so how can i delete these things??

For information about the Other category in the Storage display, see this support article. If the display seems to be inaccurate, try rebuilding the Spotlight index.
Empty the Trash if you haven't already done so. If you use iPhoto, empty its internal Trash first:
              iPhoto ▹ Empty Trash
Do the same in other applications, such as Aperture, that have an internal Trash feature. Then restart the computer. That will temporarily free up some space.
According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of available space on the startup volume (as shown in the Finder Info window) for normal operation—not the mythical 10%, 15%, or any other percentage. You also need enough space left over to allow for growth of the data. There is little or no performance advantage to having more available space than the minimum Apple recommends. Available storage space that you'll never use is wasted space.
When Time Machine backs up a portable Mac, some of the free space will be used to make local snapshots, which are backup copies of recently deleted files. The space occupied by local snapshots is reported as available by the Finder, and should be considered as such. In the Storage display of System Information, local snapshots are shown as  Backups. The snapshots are automatically deleted when they expire or when free space falls below a certain level. You ordinarily don't need to, and should not, delete local snapshots yourself. If you followed bad advice to disable local snapshots by running a shell command, you may have ended up with a lot of data in the Other category. Ask for instructions in that case.
See this support article for some simple ways to free up storage space.
You can more effectively use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) or GrandPerspective (GP) to explore the volume and find out what's taking up the space. You can also delete files with it, but don't do that unless you're sure that you know what you're deleting and that all data is safely backed up. That means you have multiple backups, not just one. Note that ODS only works with OS X 10.8 or later. If you're running an older OS version, use GP.
Deleting files inside a photo or iTunes library will corrupt the library. Changes to such a library must be made from within the application that created it. The same goes for Mail files.
Proceed further only if the problem isn't solved by the above steps.
ODS or GP can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To see everything, you have to run it as root.
    Back up all data now.
Install the app in the Applications folder as usual. Quit it if it's running.
Triple-click anywhere in the corresponding line of text below on this page to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    For ODS:
    security execute-with-privileges /A*/OmniDiskSweeper.app/*/M*/* 2>&-
    For GP:
    security execute-with-privileges /A*/GrandPerspective.app/*/M*/* 2>&-
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing command-V. You'll be prompted for your login password.
The application window will open behind other open windows. When you scan a volume, the window will eventually show all files in all folders, sorted by size. It may take a few minutes for the app to finish scanning.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of doing this. Don't delete anything as root. If something needs to be deleted, make sure you know what it is and how it got there, and then delete it by other, safer, means. When in doubt, leave it alone or ask for guidance.
When you're done with the app, quit it and also quit Terminal.
