How to clean mac like deleting unwanted internet files

I never erase unwanted files because I have to know idea how to access them, unlike my hp the icon is their you just have to click it.

It's not clear what you consider "unwanted Internet files" but "Clear history and website data..." from the Safari menu may be what you require. If you have an earlier version of Safari, the equivalent function is named "Reset Safari..."

  • How do I manually delete temporary internet files, and if I delete them on IE are they also deleted onFirefox?

I know how to delete cookies on firefox but have not figured out how to delete temporary internet files. I can do it on IE, does that do the job or do I have to delete TIF's on firefox also?

The equivalent of temporary internet files on Firefox is the cache. For details of how to clear it see https://support.mozilla.com/kb/How+to+clear+the+cache
Clearing TIFs in IE will not clear the cache in Firefox.

How to clean or get rid of duplicate files or pictures mac osx mountain lion? Many pictures do not open and show alias. I have too many of each.        Thank you
    Barbara

The only real and safe way to do this is to do it manually  looking through each folder individually.
Many third party utilities claim to clean out a hard drive of various detritus, but some times will deleted data that it shouldn't  and delete important data and that it shouldn't have.
The only "safe" way to accomplish what you need to accomplish is to do this manually.
Stay away from the OS X system folder!!!!!
If you had a duplicate system install and had duplicate system files, your iMac would not be running right now.
    Hard drive getting full?
You can download an app called OmniDiskSweeper.
This app will allow you to see where files maybe able to be delete are located.
If your Mac is running a fairly recent version of OS X, here are some general guidelines.
Follow some of my tips for cleaning out, deleting and archiving data from your Mac's internal hard drive.
Have you emptied your iMac's Trash icon in the Dock?
If you use iPhoto, iPhoto has its own trash that needs to be emptied, also.
If you have images stored in iPhoto,,the only way to weed out duplicates is to do this manually.
When you delete them, they go to iPhoto's Trash. Remember to empty this when you are done.
If you store images in other locations other than iPhoto, then you will have to weed through these to determine what are duplicates and what isn't
If you use Apple Mail app, Apple Mail also has its own trash area that needs to be emptied, too!
Other things you can do to gain space.
Delete any old or no longer needed emails and/or archive to disc, flash drives or external hard drive, older emails you want to save.
Look through your Documents folder and delete any type of old useless type files like "Read Me" type files.
Again, archive to disc, flash drives, ext. hard drives or delete any old documents you no longer use or immediately need.
Look in your Applications folder, if you have applications you haven't used in a long time, if the app doesn't have a dedicated uninstaller, then you can simply drag it into the OS X Trash icon. IF the application has an uninstaller app, then use it to completely delete the app from your Mac.
Download an app called OnyX for your version of OS X.
When you install and launch it, let it do its initial automatic tests, then go to the cleaning and maintenance tabs and run the maintenance tabs that let OnyX clean out all web browser cache files, web browser histories, system cache files, delete old error log files.
Typically, iTunes and iPhoto libraries are the biggest users of HD space.
move these files/data off of your internal drive to the external hard drive and deleted off of the internal hard drive.
If you have any other large folders of personal data or projects, these should be archived or moved, also, to the optical discs, flash drives or external hard drive and then either archived to disc and/or deleted off your internal hard drive.
    Good Luck!

  • How to clean the trash forever from locked files?

How to clean the trash forever from locked files?

Depends on what the problem is, but holding down the option key while emptying the trash will bypass the locked status and delete the files.
If those files are still in use (or the Finder thinks so), they cannot be deleted in the normal way. If the option key trick doesn't work, we can use the terminal.

  • Delete tempory internet files

Is it necessary to delete tempoary internet files and defrag the hard drive manually?  On my pc this task was done by Norton Antivirus.  I see no information on Norton or Apple about this.

If you are using Safari you can empty the cache from the Safari menu bar.
For Firefox go to the menu bar click Firefox / Preferences
Select the Network tab. Click the Clear Now button
It's not necessary to defrag a Mac.
Your Mac can run maintenance tasks for you if it you leave it on overnight one night a month (not in Sleep mode).
Read here >  Mac OS X: About background maintenance tasks
When it comes to Macs, third party maintenance utiliities are not necessary and often cause problems.

Are you trying to delete files from your Time Machine backup?  Don't do that!! If you have files/photos you wish to delete then delete them from iPhoto or whatever photo application you are using. They will be removed from the backup by the TimeMachine backup system. Your backup is not a simple file it is a time/event dependent organizational picture of your system sort of like a multilayered transparent collage, but if you start pulling random pieces out it will collapse the file system. when I connect my iphone to my itunes it says loads of space is being taken up by documents , however i have no documents saved on my phone to my knowledge. how do I find and delete these hidden files ?

I restored the phone so had no apps on it at all and there was still this certain amount of space used up by documents ! I've already had it in to the apple store and they didn't seem to have a clue either ! Ugh ! Wouldn't mind so much if the phone was free with a contract but I actually spent 450 quid buying this phone and it's always full of "nothing" so virtually unusable

  • How do I go about deleting mulitple song files all at one time as opposed to deleting them all individually off of the latest version of iTunes

How do I go about deleting mulitple song files all at one time as opposed to deleting them all individually off of the latest version of iTunes?
Also I have tried authorizing my computer to play the songs I purchased off of iTunes when I had an iPhone 4 and it will not allow me to play them whatsoever. I now have an iPhone 5 and wish to load these past song purchases onto my new phone. How do I solve this issue?

what you're missing to export multiple files is the batch export command available in the file menu or by control clicking on the items in the browser.  You can export multiple sequences/clips at full resolution with this.
This has been available in fcp for a long long time.
Wow, you are right.  Now that you mention it, I can't believe I never noticed that.  Thanks.
Only if you have the 'Self-Contained' box checked.  Otherwise you'll end up with a reference movie.
Correct.  That box is typically checked by default.  There are other default settings you could change that would not result in a full-quality version, but what I meant was hitting that option from the pull-down menu, then changing nothing and hitting ok.

  • Delete temporary Internet files

    Windows 2008 R2
    Win 7
    Win Xp
Under "user config\preferences\windows settings\folder" Created 2 folders to delete Temporary Internet files with with 1 targeting Windows 7 and the other targeting windows xp.
Here the the path for windows 7: C:\Users\%localappdata%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files
Here is the path for xp: C:\Users\%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files
However, temporary internet files not being deleted. Are my paths correct and are my enviroment variables correct. thanks

    > XP:
    >
    > %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files
    > W7:
    > %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files
    >
    W7: %LocalAppdata%\Microsoft\[and so on...]
Smartest solution: Use Item Level Targeting on the content of a registry
    value:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell
    Folders:Cache
Put that content in a variable and use this variable as target path for
    your folder ;-)
Works on each OS that supports GPP.
But things may get hard when deleting the "Low" folder - so why not
    simply use

NO THEY ARE NOT EVIL, if you know what you are doing:

  • I want to delete temporary internet files. Notice I did not say clear the cache. That does not work! How can I delete the temp files? Why did you take that feature away? VERY frustrating that you would do that!

I search for how to delete temp int files and keep coming up with the "clear cache" crap. That is not what I searched for. Clear cache does NOT delete the temp files. Why would you take that feature away??

The Windows temporary internet files folder isn't used directly by Firefox. Firefox uses its own cache folder and you can see its current usage on the about:cache page via the location bar.
If anything does show up in the temporary internet files folder then it is likely caused by using MS plugins like the Windows Media Player or Silverlight. You need to clear that folder via IE or the control panel (internet settings).

  • How To Prevent ATV From Deleting Previously Synced Files?

    Hi,
Due to the limited size of my laptop hard drive I have to move the downloaded movies and music video from iTunes to an external USB hard drive after syncing them with the ATV.
I double click in iTunes the moved file to relocate it again on the external drive so it won't appear as a missing or deleted file.
But just today, iTunes started to sync a new downloaded movie and erased all of the files that I removed from the laptop hard drive.
So who can I prevent ATV from deleting those relocated files?
    Thanks.

if itunes opens up and the external drive is not attached, it is going to flag any file it references on the external drive as unavailable. if the file is not made available and located by itunes before the apple tv syncs with itunes, then the file will also be made unavailable to the apple tv (correct me if i've got this wrong, but i'm fairly certain this is how it goes).
itunes and apple tv utilize a sync relationship, and in any device/host sync relationship one or the other has to win during a database conflict.
iTunes always wins if the file originates from itunes (i say this because when you purchase from the ATV, the ATV will push the file to iTunes that first time, but afterward if you remove it from iTunes it will be removed from the Apple TV. This is a little bit off subject but it is relevant as it is the only time the Apple TV gets to win). Otherwise, if it's not in iTunes, it won't be on the apple tv (when the two sync with each other).
if you want to prevent the ATV from deleting the relocated files, make sure they are available in itunes when the ATV syncs with itunes.
let us know if you make any observations where the files are available and this continues to happen.
