Oh, it may matter why, because there could alternative solutions to whatever problems you are trying to solve there that may be of importance to you because this...

... this is exactly what you will probably need to do (at least partly).  Check out the assembly guide for the GX700 and look on page 19.

no have socket for jumper/clear cmos ?

ok. thank you all. now I'm not confused, I think its socket to clear cmos lost
If you mean the jumper no it did not come with one, nothing was lost. Older MBs had 3 pins for JBAT1 and came with a jumper and it was stored plugged into pins 1-2 and to clear CMOS it was moved to clear pins 2-3 and then moved back to the store position pins 1-2.

  • 3000 9684-6BG Help Please. HOW TO CLEAR CMOS

Hello all, I’ve just inherited a site with 70 odd Lenovo’s.  All have quirks that need ironing out.  But anyway....
I have a 9684-6GB that is constantly rebooting after shutdown, regardless of the OS installed or the BIOS settings.  Can’t see any damage on the Mobo etc.. But what I’m really after is the CMOS reset procedure.  The literature is kind enough to point out the two jumpers on the board, but has no reference on the order to short them in.
I have tried several different ways but just can’t get it to default.
    Can somebody help?
    Cheers.

    Hello mate,
If your are not sure about the jumper, the best way is removing and reinserting the battery.
    It will clear the CMOS.

  • Clearing cmos

    Hi,
my K7T266 PRO (ms-6380) went dead after installing a new cpu; four red led's are shown and the old and new cpu won't do a thing... I understand by clearing the cmos there would be a chance that everything will work again. I read the user's manual and understand how to clear cmos but I don't know what this mean. Can anyone tell me about it ? Which information will be deleted ? ?(

    look again into your manual,
just at the first pages with the layouts of YOUR board.
i have a k7t266 pro2 and the jumper is under the battery and above the sys-fan-header.
the way of resetting CMOS (BIOS):
    shut down Windows/system,
turn off the mainpower switch (behind the power supply),
then take out THAT jumper AND place that one pin higher.
(jumper will cover the 1st and the 2nd pin)
    after 2 minutes,
put the jumper back to his ORIGINAL position.
(jumper will cover the 2nd and the 3rd pin)
then turn on the mainpower switch and power on your system.
PLEASE look into the manual FIRST!
P.S. after doing that, you will be prompt to go to the BIOS or load the BIOS defaults.
choose the option to go to the BIOS, because you will have to set up the settings for cpu and RAM, AGP etc...

  • How to Reset BIOS/Clear CMOS of an HP Pavilion 500-111ea

    Hello,
I was trying to change my computers boot logo because i dont like the HP one, and now when i try to enter my bios i get beeping, can anyone tell me how to reset the BIOS/Clear CMOS, this will be much apreciated. The computer still works fine, i just cant enter the BIOS or the UEFI Firmware Settings thing. When pressing F10 at boot up the computer beeps 8 times
My computer is a HP Pavilion 500-111ea

    Hi,
Please explain in detail what changes you made in an attempt to change the boot logo.
HP did not post a clear CMOS procedure for your model PC.  Review the below image.  Unplug your PC, hold down the power button for 1 minute. Now open up your PC and move the jumper blocks over to the left per the image for 30 seconds and then move the jumper blocks back. Plug the PC back in and give it go.  If you still get the eight (8) beeps then you could try a ROM image recovery.
Eight (8) beeps in an invalid ROM image.  Review this HP posted article for trying a BIOS recovery.
You might try this HP tools software.  Download the software to a different PC and create the USB 2 bootable tools flash drive. If you can get the flash drive to boot up then look for a firmware management selection.  There is not any documentation available on how to use this function so you are on your own.  HP Support might be able to assist you with a BIOS recovery and/or you might be faced with sending in your PC to an authorized HP repair facility to have the BIOS reflashed.

  • How to Properly Clear CMOS...

    Hey Guys,
I’ve checked the MSI manual and I’ve taken a look at the sticky/FAQ’s over here in the forum as well, and I wasn’t really able to find instructions on how to properly clear the CMOS (after a BIOS flash).
So first of all what’s the correct way to clear the CMOS?
    1. Should I leave the power cord connected to the PSU and then press the “clear CMOS button” while the battery is still in the motherboard?
    2. OR should the power cord be detached from the PSU and the motherboard battery removed and then should I press the “clear CMOS button”? (And if so, for how long should the batter be removed before connecting it back to the motherboard?)
    Secondly,
I was looking over the steps in this guide (http://www.msi.com.tw/html/support/bios/note/ntfs.htm) and I’m not sure at which point I should clear the CMOS. After I’ve executed the flash command and the flash has been complete, it says in step 12. “Reboot your system when prompted.”
So should I turn off the machine right after the BIOS flash and then clear the CMOS… or should I reboot the machine right after the flash and then clear CMOS ?
Any help would be greatly appreciated as I really don’t want to FUBAR my board.
    Thanks in advance.

    1. When I enter the flash command in DOS and the flash program completes the flash... will it say something like "flash successful" OR the only way I’ll know if the flash was successful is if after the flash I reboot and the machine posts?
You will have a message like 'Hit F1 to reboot' in principle all is well...
Quote from: Brownbay on 18-June-05, 01:28:24
    2. I understood everything in the steps that you listed up until step 4. Should I press the orange "clear CMOS" button first (Now do I have to hold it down... press it a few times... or just press it once) and THEN remove the battery... OR should the battery stay in at all times?
While you press the button the battery must stay in it's place, it's is voltage that will clear the BIOS in a certain pin of the IC...
As for the time to press...could be 1..2..3 seconds, no time defined, as soon as you press the button the Bios is cleared...but give it 3 secs.
And it's not necessary to remove the battery at this point only in extreme cases.

Finally, is it actually beneficial to clear the CMOS after flashing the BIOS? From what I’ve read... One of the main reasons to clear the CMOS after flashing to a new BIOS is so that you get rid of all the old BIOS options/commands that might be still lying around. So I can only see this as a good precautionary step rather than doing any harm to the motherboard, or causing the risk there of.
It is highly beneficial to clear the Bios after an update, because some settings could be somewhat out of place and mess up your discs or memory or even the processor...one never knows...it is always better to clear for ensurance.
    Be well....

  • How do you clear CMOS on a MSI K8N-SLI board?

I no longer have the manual and I need to clear the CMOS on my MSI K8N-SLI Board. Actually, my issue is that nothing comes up on my monitor screen. I was 95% certain that it was the video card which was an old MSI NX6600 256MD eLite nVidia vid card. I'm in China at the moment and I bought a "Colorful" 9500GT 512MB vid card to replace it, however it does work. It may work for up to 2 minutes, and then prior to finishing the initial boot up, it says that the computer is placed into safe mode due to overclock???? I've never overclocked before.... Am I suppose to clear the CMOS? There is a small button near the HDLED jumpers which I had pressed assuming it was the clear CMON switch since I couldn't recognize anything else being a CLEAR CMOS. Can someone help me out? I'm in dire need of your expertise!

  • [Athlon64] Clear CMOS Jumper orientation ???

I have a new MSI RS480M/RS482M Motherboard and the clear CMOS pin orientation is a little confusing. With the video connectosr and other connectors at the rear you normally count left to right, top to bottom, but the jumper came on the pins on the right side which would be pins 2 & 3 and in that case means "Clear CMOS".  Which means of course if I boot that way I'll damage the motherboard. Since the numbers are not printscreened I can't tell which pin is number 1 so I'm not sure how to jumper it for "Keep CMOS Data"?  Any help appreciated.

Thanks for the reply Foxbat.    Yep .... I understand that.  I guess my question is: Which pin is number 1?  If you are looking at the pins from the left side of the motherboard the pins would be vertical and top to bottem would be 1,2,3.  However, if you are looking at the pins from a position that all the connectors are in the back (video, com, audio) then ... normally (going by all the old rules - left to right, top to bottem) #1 would be different, the pins would be horizontal and #1 would be on the left side and just the opposite. So it depends on how you position the motherboard when you look at it. Looking at pin #s that are printscreened (the ones that happen to be numbered) there is no consistent method of numbering .... and I cannot see any numbering on the CMOS pins. Thus my dilemma.

  • Clear CMOS - without moving jumper/pins

Thinking about trying to OC my 3000+(W)@Neo2.
My case and eq. in genreall makes it hard to clear CMOS the "old way", and I remember someone telling of a keystroke one could do under reboot to clear CMOS.
How can I do this on the Neo2 and what are the dissadvantages?

If "Ins" Key is held down when powering up , system starts with reduced fsb and other safe settings . Making that clear cmos jumper uneccesary when OC has gone bad.
Note ! It must be powered off and powered on with the key pressed (just restart key + "ins" wont work).

  • MSI Z87-G43 clear cmos

    Hi,
I need some help in figuring out how to clear the cmos on a MSI Z87-G43. I've read https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=31222.0 but they don't seem to apply on this motherboard.
The manual shows an image of two pairs of squares with a white square inside them (an attempt to depict the image below). The left pair is grey and labeled Keep Data. The right pair is black and labeled Clear Data. They both have the number "1" labeled above.
    1                    1
    [ x ] [ x ]          [ x ] [ x ]
    Keep Data     Clear Data
The manual says you should short this jumper to clear the cmos. So it seems there is just a pair of pins instead of a three-pin jumper that is refered to in the  instructions (https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=31222.0).
Now I found a pair of pins located below the label JBAT1 and to the left of a pair of pins labeled JCI1. Are these the ones?
And how do I short them? I didnt recieve any jumpers with the motherboard. So maybe I have to order a pair?
    Thanks!

Yes and you can short it with anything conductive (e.g. a screwdriver). You just need a temporary contact of the pins. Alternatively remove the battery for some time.

  • I followed the Clear CMOS Ram guidelines but I can't get into Setup!

hey folks, thanks loads for the guildlines in the stickies, I followed the one for removing the battery to clear the CMOS RAM, and when it gets to the point where I press F1 to continue or DELETE to enter SETUP, whichever I press it just takes me to a blank screen with a flashing cursor in the top left corner (i think its the _ symbol or the -), and when I reboot I have to repeat the process of the monitor won't come on properly. If I just press DELETE to go into SETUP before the error comes up it does the same thing but theres a thick blue line at the bottom of the screen too.
    Any clues?
    Specs: 64MB NVidia GeForce 2 MX440 AGP 2x

    Mobo: K7N2 Delta2-LSR specs on here: http://msicomputer.co.uk/Products.aspx?product_id=703554&cat_id=77
any help would me so appreciated as i'm at the end of my tether now!
    cheers
    alex

Hello, thanks all for your reply.
I did notice my card is 2x and technically the board is 4x/8x, I read up on the AGP thing and it seemed very likely that it would work anyway. Am I stupid for thinking that it would work?  Why would there be a checksum error because of that though?
Anyway, in answer to the original question I needed to boot from CDROM so I could format and install Windows XP on my hard drive so I entered the setup and changed it to boot from the CDROM first, there was also a section I changed from Manual to Auto - I can't remember specifically what it was for, but they were exactly the same anyway, I think I left it on Auto as that always went for the most stable option and I really wanted to avoid any trouble (ugh!). Either way, like I say it didn't change any settings anyway so I don't see how it could be that.
    So I posted on Driverheaven.net here: http://www.driverheaven.net/showthread.php?t=102308
They suggested I clear CMOS and thats where I am now!
Thanks for the replies, any more ideas?

  • Clearing cmos in k7n2 delta ilsr

guys, i think i broke my ilsr... i accidentally removed the jumper from jbat and booted my system.  all i got was a continuous blinking of keyboard leds.
how on earth did that happen?
well, i was connecting the hard disk that i got which is placed just beside that jumper.  maybe while i was inserting the cables, i accidentally snapped it out...
on page 2-30 of the manual, it says:
You can clear CMOS by pressing 2-3 pin while the system is off.  The return to 1-2 pin position.  Avoid clearing the CMOS while the systemis on; it will damage the mainboard.
the question is, is clearning cmos the same thing as leaving jbat unshorted?
actually, the system still boots, but i cannot do 3d apps anymore as well as intense microprocessor computations.  my system just locks up...

yup yup yup, that's exactly what i am trying to say... no jumpers in any position (jbat does not have any jumper)
