  • Can someone please help me figure out how to "clear" recent email addresses used in Mail?

Can someone please help me figure out how to “clear” recent email addresses used in Mail?  For example, as I begin typing a name/email address in the “To:” field, Mail begins suggesting addresses that I’ve previously used.  I don’t want any suggestions unless they are in my contacts.
Another example:  When using MS Outlook, it will also remember and suggest email accounts previously used, but I can arrow down and delete an account from the list so it won’t automatically popup or suggest in the future.
I appreciate any guidance in this matter.

The iOS email app stores all email recipients in a list of previous recipients which cannot be turned off. The email address autofill feature when addressing an email pulls from contacts and from the list of previous recipients which can't be prevented. There is no option to clear the list of previous recipients - not at the present time anyway.
If you don't want any suggestions, select from contacts instead when addressing an email.

  • How I clear recent history in latest update

How I clear recent history in latest update?

I need to work on various projects and being able to clear recent enables me to start an a new project, like a clean sheet of paper. Only a rare person is happy to work on a mixed bed of information. I may be wrong for which I apologise, but wondering why clear recent is a benefit suggests knowledge of the application, but little experience in real use

  • How to Clear "recent" listing in new Acrobat X Pro

In new Acrobat X Pro, when I open this program a window appears listing "recent" files that I have previously opened.
I cannot clear this "recent" listing. I have deleted some of those files, and do not want them to appear in this window anymore.
I cannot find any option to clear this damn listing. Only option I found was to reduce this listing from the default 5 to 1. Zero is unavailable.
The crude way I found was to delete this registry listing:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Adobe Acrobat\10.0\AVGeneral\cRecentFiles
I cannot believe that Adobe will design and release a brand new version with such poor design.
If you do know how, maybe I am blind and cannot find this elusive option, please post it here so we all can learn.
But if I am really correct and there is no option, Adobe MUST fix this oversight ASAP.
    Thank you for helping.

George, you almost have it, as my method here is more efficient:
All you need to do is save the following 2 lines as ClearAcrobatRecent.REG
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
    [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Adobe Acrobat\10.0\AVGeneral\cRecentFiles]
    IMPORTANT:
Copy and paste the above 2 lines in Notepad, then save as "ClearAcrobatRecent.REG"
Note the - to the left of HKEY, which denotes "remove" from the Registry.
Then run this reg file whenever you need to clear your recent files that appear when you open Acrobat.
My method is easier and better because it does not rely on the number of "recent" files, as all will be cleared.
Of course, "cRecentFiles" entry will be deleted in the registry as well, but it will safely be recreated once you open a file in Acrobat.
Until Adobe adds this important and useful option in the next Acrobat X update this is the only practical way to clear "recent files".
    Good luck and enjoy.

  • Mini Bridge: how to clear recent files/folders?

    Hi all,
I am a new user of Photoshop CS5.1 Extended and have a question about Mini Bridge. My OS is Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit, and I'm using the 64-bit version of Photoshop.
My question is: how do I clear the Recent Files and Recent Folders lists from the navigation pane of Mini Bridge?
In Bridge itself I have set the 'number of recent items' to zero. I can't see any equivalent setting in Mini Bridge.
The reason for asking is that prior to purchasing and installing the Production Premium Suite, I demoed the Web Premium Suite, including Fireworks. Even though Fireworks is now uninstalled and I can find no reference to it in the Windows Registry, Fireworks has its own submenu of recent files in Mini Bridge. I can't figure out where this information is stored.
    Any ideas? Thanks.

Ok, I just figured this out.
In Bridge (not Mini Bridge), it's the Reveal Recent toolbar icon, then "Clear Recent Files" and/or "Clear Recent Folders".
This is a bit counter-intuitive, considering that "number of recent items to display" in Bridge was already set to zero, but hey ho.
Just thought I'd post this in case anyone else finds the thread and is curious.

  • How to clear recents on menu items?

When I right click on menu items, such as on pages or numbers, how can I clear recents for that menu?

Hey, rskern, thought I'd just share the solution I finally discovered while posting on another thread about this issue. This worked for me, at least in Mountain Lion:
If you clear the offending application from the Dock, as in drag it out of the dock, it seems to clear whatever weird cache is kept there. If you then reopen the app, and drag it in the dock so it stays there, it will update dynamically again, so when you use the "Clear Recents" menubar item, it will clear it in the Dock's menu (and Mission Control) too, even while the app is still open. Again, I just found this, so I don't know how long it'll take before that Dock menu seems to "get stuck" again, but it seems to clear it at least temporarily when you do that.
    Hope this helps!

  • 11.4.0 How to CLEAR Recent Documents? Prior version had a delete option. Run 4.1.1 on a 64Gb Excite tablet.  Thanks

I just updated my tablet to the new version.  I find no options to clear/delete Recent Documents. Where do I find that option? Or do they self de-solve in time?
    Thanks

This is Senko from earlier in the thread something went wrong somewhere and after a few attempts to retrieve a lost password and email to that aodbreader-android address (failed every time) I gave up and made a new account.
I use a large amount of manuals and pdfs in my work and will often open 10+ different ones a day. Previously I could regularly clear recent documents so I only had the ones I was using at the time in recent documents but I had the original I could reopen if needed.
With the removal of this feature recent documents is utterly useless as I have dozens of "recent" documents making it almost impossible to find one specific one as its easy to scroll past the one I want. However deleting the original is no use because I may well need it again a few days later so I'd be constantly deleting and reinstalling files. Compared to the previous convenience of just clearing recent documents so I only actually have the ones relevant to what I'm doing at the time in recents but being able to retrieve another if it turns out to be useful.
Currently I don't bother to use recents at all but will just open documents go to the relevant folder and open the one I want since I have 20+ files in my recents list and don't want to permaenntly delete any of them. This feature is one I would greatly appreciate being restored as it makes my work life much easier.

  • How to clear recent history

clear recent history is not working

What happens if you try to clear the recent history and which items have a check-mark and what is the range?

Clearing cookies will remove all specified (selected) cookies including cookies with an allow exception that you would like to keep.

  • How to clear "recent" contacts listed automatically as you type email addresses in

Hi everyone. When I go to type the address of an email I get as far as the first letter and a list of "recent" email addresses pops up, which is handy except for some reason the first one is a combination of two emails address, one I know and one I only vaguely recognise as possibly being a former student who might have been on a mailing list of mine at one time. This combo of emails addresses doesn't appear in my contact list or address book on its own, but since it shows up as I start typing my husband's email, I'm sure there has been a time or two where I've just selected it to autocomplete the address field, and ended up sending something probably embarrassingly personal to not just my husband but this other person as well. How do I go in and clear out my icloud's memory of past-sent emails?  Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    In Mail: Window Menu>Previous Recipients
    Delete any or all.

  • ? How to clear Recent Directions from Google maps

Does anyone know? I can't and I have like a hundred. I have disabled websearch so that can't be the cause. I also have uninstalled and reinstalled the app...no difference.

Are you signed in?  If so, try going to Settings > Map History within Google Maps (assuming you're using version 2, which was released yesterday) and editing there.
You get to Settings by tapping the three horizontal bars in the lower left corner of the Google Maps display.

    Hi Bpaitin,
Go to Settings>General>Usage, and under iCloud, click on Manage Storage>click on your device, then under Backup Options, turn Photo Library off and then back on. See if that clears it up.
If it does not, reset your device (nothing will be lost): Hold down the Home and Power buttons at the same time and continue to hold them down until the Apple appears (up to 30 seconds). Once the Slide to Unlock screen redisplays, see if the issue is resolved.
    Cheers,

For information about the Other category in the Storage display, see this support article. If the Storage display seems to be inaccurate, try rebuilding the Spotlight index.
Empty the Trash if you haven't already done so. If you use iPhoto, empty its internal Trash first:
              iPhoto ▹ Empty Trash
Do the same in other applications, such as Aperture, that have an internal Trash feature. Then restart the computer. That will temporarily free up some space.
According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of available space on the startup volume (as shown in the Finder Info window) for normal operation—not the mythical 10%, 15%, or any other percentage. You also need enough space left over to allow for growth of the data. There is little or no performance advantage to having more available space than the minimum Apple recommends. Available storage space that you'll never use is wasted space.
When Time Machine backs up a portable Mac, some of the free space will be used to make local snapshots, which are backup copies of recently deleted files. The space occupied by local snapshots is reported as available by the Finder, and should be considered as such. In the Storage display of System Information, local snapshots are shown as  Backups. The snapshots are automatically deleted when they expire or when free space falls below a certain level. You ordinarily don't need to, and should not, delete local snapshots yourself. If you followed bad advice to disable local snapshots by running a shell command, you may have ended up with a lot of data in the Other category. Ask for instructions in that case.
See this support article for some simple ways to free up storage space.
You can more effectively use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) or GrandPerspective (GP) to explore the volume and find out what's taking up the space. You can also delete files with it, but don't do that unless you're sure that you know what you're deleting and that all data is safely backed up. That means you have multiple backups, not just one. Note that ODS only works with OS X 10.8 or later. If you're running an older OS version, use GP.
Deleting files inside an iPhoto or Aperture library will corrupt the library. Any changes to a photo library must be made from within the application that created it. The same goes for Mail files.
Proceed further only if the problem isn't solved by the above steps.
ODS or GP can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To see everything, you have to run it as root.
    Back up all data now.
If you have more than one user account, make sure you're logged in as an administrator. The administrator account is the one that was created automatically when you first set up the computer.
Install the app you downloaded in the Applications folder as usual. Quit it if it's running.
Triple-click anywhere in the corresponding line of text below on this page to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    sudo /Applications/OmniDiskSweeper.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniDiskSweeper
    sudo /Applications/GrandPerspective.app/Contents/MacOS/GrandPerspective
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing command-V. You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator. Ignore any other messages that appear in the Terminal window.
The application window will open, eventually showing all files in all folders, sorted by size. It may take a few minutes for the app to finish scanning.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of doing this. Don't delete anything as root. If something needs to be deleted, make sure you know what it is and how it got there, and then delete it by other, safer, means. When in doubt, leave it alone or ask for guidance.
When you're done with the app, quit it and also quit Terminal.

  • How do I clear "Recents" from my iPhone?

I have iOS 8.1.1. on my iphone 5C.  When I double-click on the home button, a list of recent contacts--from phone, message, facetime--shows up at the top.  While that's a "nice to have," I might not want to see that--nor have an e-trail for snooping others to peruse.  The problem is, while I can clear recents in the apps, the list still persists when I double-click the home button.  How do I clear this or submit a request to add a clearing feature to the settings?

    Thinking+ wrote:
While I can appreciate the ability to "hide" this information, it does not preclude the iOS-savvy snooper from turning it back on.  What I want to do is to clear that history.
What snooper, enable a passcode lock on your phone.
If you turn that feature off, no recent will show when you double tap the home button.
