How to clone & sync systems?

Hi
How do I sync my files from one mac to another?
I have a macbookpro 15 and would like to copy ALL files to another macbook pro 13.
Is there a way to "migrate" all files without having to re-install all apps?
And is there a way to syn both of my macs? Is there a way to keep them in sync?
For ex. I would work on something on my 15 and on the 13 and it would automatically syn "visversa" incase anything adds or is removed.

There are many ways. If all you want is to clone the MBP 15 to the MBP 13 then first be sure the Source machine's OS system is the same as on the Target machine. Do that by selecting About This Mac from the Apple menu. You will see the OS X version displayed. Click on it to see the Build version. Be sure both machines have the same OS X and Build versions or that the Build version of the Source machine is greater than the Build version of the Target machine. Once that is done here are some options:
1. Get an external hard drive. Clone the Source machine to the external drive. Then boot the Target machine from the external drive, erase the Target machine's hard drive, then restore the clone from the external drive to the Target machine.
2. Connect both computers using a Firewire cable. Boot the Target machine into Target Disk Mode, then boot the Source machine normally. You will see the Target's hard drive on the Source's Desktop. Erase the Target's hard drive then clone the Source to the Target.
3. Connect both computers using a Firewire cable. Use Migration Assistant on the Target machine to migrate from the Source to the Target. MA will transfer the Home folder, all third-party applications, application support files, miscellaneous support files, and system preferences. Notes: The Home folder on the Target cannot have the same username as the one on the Source; Both machines can be booted normally. It isn't necessary to use Target Disk Mode.
You can clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility:
Clone using Restore Option of Disk Utility
1. Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
2. Select the destination volume from the left side list.
3. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
4.Check the box labeled Erase destination.
5. Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
6. Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to the Source entry field.
7. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the Target machine's drive.
Source means the Source machine's drive.
You can also clone using third-party software:

  • How to Sync System Clock with Internet Time in Windows 7?

"Internet Time" tab is missing in Clock Settings as shown in below link.
    http://mintywhite.com/windows-7/7maintenance/windows-seven-7-sync-system-clock-with-internet-time-how-to/
Please suggest how to Sync System Clock with Internet Time in Windows 7?
    Regards, Dharmendra, Bangalore (India)

The note at the bottom of the first link from Alex Verboon has the following, which worked on my Domain-associated Windows 7 system:
Synchronizing with an Internet time server
You can synchronize your computer clock with an Internet time server. This means that the clock on your computer is updated to match the clock on the time server, which can help ensure that the clock on your computer is accurate. Your clock is typically updated
once a week and needs to be connected to the Internet for the synchronization to occur.
    Note
If your computer is on a domain, you can't synchronize your clock with an Internet time server.
Open Date and Time by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking Clock, Language, and Region, and then clicking Date and Time.
Click the Internet Time tab, and then click Change settings. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
Click Automatically synchronize with an Internet time server, select a time server, and then click OK.

  • How do I sync my Macbook Air Calendar with my iphone 4s?

I can't get my Macbook Air to show my calender events from my iPhone 4S.  How can I sync them?

How would you like to sync them - by cable connection, over wifi, or over iCloud? You should only use one of these three methods.
To use cable connection, attach your charging cable between the iPhone and Mac, open iTunes, go to the iPhone tab, click Info, and make sure Calendar sync is enabled, and that all the calendars you need are set to sync. Click Sync.
To use wifi connection, you must first connect via cable - under Info, you can set "Sync over wifi". You can now disconnect the cable, but your iPhone must be attached to power in order to sync.
To use iCloud, set up iCloud sync of calendars on the Mac first - go to System Preferences, iCloud, and turn on Calendar sync. After a few minutes, log into http://icloud.com with your appleid and make sure the calendars are there. Once that's done, go to the iPhone, Settings, iCloud, and turn on calendar sync. Again, it will take a few minutes to sync.

  • How do I sync my MacBook Air with my iPhone?

I just purchased a new MacBook Air.  While setting it up, I created a new Apple ID.  Unfortunately, I am now experiencing difficulties when trying to sync my new MacBook Air with my iPhone, which is synchronized to my old Apple ID.  I want all of my information (music, pictures, contacts, etc.) on my new mac.  How can I sync the two devices? (my phone is synchronized with another Mac)  Any help?

Can you sign into iCloud (System Preferences -> iCloud) on your new Air with the same account you use on your iPhone?

  • How do I sync my iphone with itunes without losing everything on my phone?

How do I sync my iphone with itunes without losing everything on my phone?

Normally, you should be able to sync your iPhone with iTunes without losing anything
What can happen is that you might have emptied your iTunes library for any reason such as a system restore
If this is the case, you first need to Import iPhone library to iTunes and then, you'll be able to sync your iPhone with iTunes with no problem

  • How do I sync my iPhone 4S with a new iTunes library without losing data?

    Hi,
I have been using an iPhone 4S for a few months now. Yesterday my PC crashed and I had to reboot the whole system.
So, obviously I had to reinstall iTunes.
Now, when I am connecting my phone with iTunes, it is informing me that my phone was synced with another iTunes library and if I sync it with this one, it will erase all data and do a fresh sync with the current library.
I have alot of important data, photos, contacts, messages, music on my phone now. I can't do without that.
How do I sync without losing my data? ? Help!
    Tarun

can't if you do not have access to the old library (the usual workaround is to backup the old library and import it to the new itunes)
    for important data...
sync your existing contacts with icloud, your text messages will not be disrupted, music will sync with whatever music you have on your new itunes, photos shoud still be in the camera roll (I would sync them to photostream before you sync, just in case).   Any photos on your phone that are not in camera roll or photostream... if you lost those pictures with the computer crash I would take screen shots (lock button + home button at the same time) of each photo so they show up in the camera roll.  App data may or may not be lost.  In my experience, it depends on the app.  Some of the apps recognize your apple ID and sync data over the internet with servers, some do not.  I would take note of important data (such as passwords in a password keeper if you have such an app) just in case if you lose that data.

    Ok.
Open System Preferences, Apple Logo icon in the menu bar and then System Preferences or the Sys Pref iocon in the Dock and go to the Internet Accounts area and look at your iCloud account. It should list what is and isn't synced by a checkmark next to each item.
Also in the Contacts app click on Contacts in the menu bar and select Preferences then accounts and make sure your iCloud account is listed. You can also do that from the Internet Accounts area in System Preferences.

  • HT204053 how can i sync calendar and contacts between my iPhone and new Mac book pro?

I use an iPad and iPhone to maintain my schedule and contacts. I just purchased a Macbook Pro...how do I sync info on my other devices with my Macbook?
I have a current iCloud ID...
Would the info from the calander on the iPad automatically "push" to the Macbook, if i have everything configured properly?
    Thanks

    Yes,
you need to Sign Out of the wrong Apple ID - lower button in ICloud under system preferences.
Otherwise you cannot change the current Apple ID
Then you will be able to put a new apple ID and sign in.

  • How do I sync both an iPad and iPhone 4 to the same iMac?

I am combining the functions of a PC desktop and PC Laptop onto a new iMac. I do have VMware's Fusion to run Windows 7 Home Premium, but I'd really like to sync both my iPad (first generation) and iPhone 4 to the Mac and move away from the Windows platform. I used to sync each device to a separate PC. How can I sync both devices to the iMac? In addition, with iCloud, can I determine which apps are synced to each device since some apps are designed for the iPhone and don't have corresponding iPad versions (with full screen size). There are apps for the iPad only that shouldn't be synced to the iPhone. I'd appreciate any advice from folks who sync two portable devices to one Mac system.

Just plug the two devices into the Mac, as if the other one didn't exist. iTunes will keep them separate and allow you control sync of apps and media content as you wish.
As to iCloud, for the iTunes in the Cloud feature, if you use the same iTunes Store account on both the iPad and the iPhone, you'll want to turn off the automatic download option in the Settings -> Store preference pane on your devices. Then you can sync, download and update as you wish on each device.
    Regards.

How do I sync iCal on my mac with OS 8 devices

    Hi jgiolma,
Since you do not mention what version of the Mac operating system you are running on your MacBook Pro it is a little hard to answer your question. For computers running Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 or later one way to sync your calendars would be to use iCloud. See this article for minimum system requirements for iCloud -

Information on using iCloud for your calendars can be found here -

  • How can I sync my iPod classic to another iTunes library

    Hello eddie8625,
I would recommend enabling 'manual mode' on the iPod so that it can be synced to two libraries without affecting the existing content on the device.

  • How can I sync my Address Book and ICal with Mac and PC with Palm Desktop?

I now have the IPhone and I love it!!! But I have some issues and need help please. I have a PC at work and a Mac at home. In the PC I use the Palm Desktop Version 4.1.4 and I have there all my contacts (more than 1,100), all my date book (since 1998) and all my memos (about 600). I want to see what would be the best way get rid of my Palm Handheld and have only the IPhone, but I have encountered some problems and many steps. Everyday I have to sync the Palm Handheld at work, then sync the Palm Handheld at home with my Mac (using The Missing Sync, but it takes a long time every time), then sync the IPhone. Can you please help me??? How can I sync my data from my PC (Palm Desktop) with the IPhone? Another, thing; I do not want to use Outlook at work because the information that I want to sync (Palm) is my personal data and I want to keep using the Palm software for that.

    aflores48,
Unfortunately, the iPhone is not designed to sync with Palm software. As stated in the minimum system requirements, the iPhone can sync with Outlook (2003, 2007 or Express) on a PC, or with iCal and Entourage on a Mac. If you do not want to use Outlook on the PC, you can sign up for a free Yahoo account and sync with Yahoo Address Book. Yahoo Address Book can be used to sync from PC or Mac. More information on the minimum system requirements for the iPhone can be found here:

More information about syncing the iPhone with your computer (including Yahoo Address Book) can be found here:

    Hope this helps,
