How to closed a numbers spreadsheet in ipad?

How do I close a numbers spreadsheet on my ipad 2? I cannot find a button or menu to close it. It has personal information on and the spreadsheet is password protected. I have opened it but cannot close it so if I lost my ipad, people would be able to see the personal info. That's why I need to close it.

Thanks Michael. I am finding this really hard to explain even though it's so simple. I have my passwords on a numbers spreadsheet. I password protected it. Every time I try to open it on my macbook it asks for a password. This is what I want. I open it, I update it. I close it, I want to update it again, it asks for the password again, I input the password, I update the sheet, I close it. I dont close it by opening another sheet or not worrying about it because my laptop is password protected, I hit the "X" in the top rught hand corner and close it.
Now, on my ipad I cannot do the equivlemt of clicking on the "X" in the top right hand corner as the "X" does not appear on Numbers on the iPad?
That is my question, not how to mask it by opening another sheet or looking for a work around like password protecting the iPad so it doesn't matter that the spreadsheet is still open. Just, how do I Close (X out) of a Numbers spreadsheet when it's open in my iPad?
I would really appreciate anyone helping me on this and thank you to the 2 people who have tried.

  • How to select entire Numbers SpreadSheet on Ipad for Global Format?

    Hi,
I have a very large speadsheet covering several years.   It looks like it got copied onto itself slighty scewed and too difficult to read.  I can select one cell and change its format to left from right justification and the cell separates displaying both columns.   If I could select the  entire worksheet I could seperate the data and  repaitr the spreadsheet.
Is there a way to do this on an Ipad 3rd Gen Ios7?

    Hi Timothy,
I don't know what place or DT mean. Here is a simplified table of individuals payments (net pay?)
The 'Summary by person' table uses SUMIF to sum values that match a person's name in the 'Individual payments' table
B2 contains this formula (and Fill Down):
    =SUMIF(Individual payments::B,A2,Individual payments::C)

  • How can i sync numbers from my iPad to my new iMac?

how can i sync numbers from my ipad to my new imac?

If you mean spreadsheets from within the Numbers app on your iPad to your computer's iTunes then there are instructions here. If you mean that you want to copy the Numbers app from the iPad to your computer then you can copy it to your computer's iTunes via File > Transfer Purchases; but if you want to use Numbers on your Mac then you will need to buy the Mac OS X version.

  • Edit numbers spreadsheet pn ipad

I imported a Numbers spreadsheet via Itunes to my Ipad. I can open it but I cannot figure out how to edit it.

Do you have the iOS version of Numbers on your iPad? If not, then you can only view the spreadsheet, not edit it.

  • How do i sync numbers between my ipad and imac. i dont even know how to do this via itunes

    Hi,
i just downloaded numbers to my ipda, thinking that as i use it on my mac, i would be able to use it on my ipad, and that the lates version would be saved automatically, however i have no idea how to sync the numbers on both devices

Thanks, I've reset it a lot, but nothing changes.  I can get the iPhone and the iPad to talk with each other, I want to have the iMac in the loop.
I got a note on another forum to change the "Send & Receive" setting. I now have 2 Addresses - my cell phone and my email. I'm hoping that will work.  When DH gets home I'll have him test it.

  • How to password protect "Numbers" app on iPad.

It would seem that iPad users might like to password-protect other Apps as well. If there isn't an App to do so, someone should create one. No, I don't want to jailbreak to get the Cydia app.

There is at this time no way to put a password in the Numbers app nor on a Numbers spreadsheet, and as Michael said it's not something a third-party developer could add. You can suggest that Apple add a password feature via their feedback pages:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback
or you can look for a third-party spreadsheet app that does allow password-protecting a sheet. Documents To Go from Dataviz is a commonly-recommended app that supports spreadsheets, but I don't know if they support passwording.

  • How best to share Numbers spreadsheet usage between two networked Macs?

I have never really shared files between two users as my wife always had a Windows computer. She recently purchased an iMac and now has Numbers, so we are interested in sharing access to a couple of spreadsheets for household management. I have racked my brain trying to figure out how to share a file like this, expecting to show her how easy it is on a Mac, but so far I am making it look as difficult to figure out as it was for her on a windows network. Needless to say she is not very impressed with me or with file sharing on a Mac!
I have a iWork numbers spreadsheet I wantto share between myself on my iMac and my wife on her iMac on our local/home network. I tried keeping the file in my Public Folder but that apparently is not designed to allow my wife to make changes to and re-save back to the same location in my public folder.
So how else can I set this up to allow both my wife and I to acess (at different times, not simultaneously) the file, make changes, and save it back to the same location? I have a family MobileMe account as well as the local networked iMacs, if that is a possible solution.
I have heard some people talk about the 3rd party tool called DropBox, but I would like to keep to a local/Apple solution if this is possible with Apple hardware/software.
Thanks in advance to all you gurus for whom this is an easy fix.

Share the document via DropBox and discuss changes via iwork.com comments.
Neat idea; I'll check that out later this evening, thanks for the help here.
For sharing the file it seems there are two preferred methods:
    1. create a file sharing local user account to host the share documents entirely on a local network. Pros: not routed through the internet. Cons: requires entering a user name and password for access. *(Can Keychain remember the shared account login credentials and enter this for you automatically to make this process even easier?)*
    2. Use a dropbox account. Pros: no need to enter login credentials each time. Cons: requires internet access to upload and distribute changes.
Any other issues to consider between the two options?

  • How to print a numbers spreadsheet so column numbers show

I'm writing this with zero experience so please be nice   I am trying to print a numbers spreadsheet and I want the Column numbers to show (1,2,3 down the side and A, B,C up top)  How can I do this?  Thanks.

    Hi John,
Apple's design philosophy (keep it simple and non-technical on the surface) is pretty well known, so to me it's not that surprising when they extend that philosophy to Numbers: quite a bit of power under the hood but a deceptively simple interface.
My experience shouldn't be an issue here. But since you brought it up, I am a long-time heavy user of spreadsheets, of Excel more than Numbers, but I find Numbers handy as well, and thought I'd point out my perspective, in response to your "are you kidding?" comment.
In Numbers, column letters and row numbers are just a quick click or a tap away, quite handy for my needs, and I like the fact that they recede gracefully into the background when not needed.
If unlike me you still do a lot of printing out to static reports (as opposed to sharing results dynamically online or on, say, a tablet) then you won't be as happy with Numbers as with many other spreadsheets.
But, as I say, you might consider in your menu going to Numbers > Provide Numbers Feedback.

  • HELP !?! Numbers spreadsheet on iPad in iCloud : "can't be opened"

Been travelling for the past 2 weeks, only have my iPad with me. Have been working on a Numbers spreadsheet in iCloud, and today at some point for no apparent reason Numbers closes and I am directed back to Home Screen. Numbers app seems still open, but spreadsheet (although still showing in list of documents) won't open anymore.
Anyone can help me please with re-opening the document ? (I have made lots of changes over the past 2 weeks, and won't be back home at my MacBook Air for another week. I hope I have not lost weeks of work ...)
    Thanks
P.S. I have tried to reset the iPad, didn't work ...

Restart fixed this, but still—not reassuring.

  • How do I get numbers spreadsheets to open at the last entry?

I work with Numbers spreadsheets often and find it very frustrating that on opening a document it opens at the top rather than at the last place of entry. My frustration is that some of the spreadsheets I work with are fairly long and require me to then scroll down a long way to pick up the spot I want to work in. Any ideas would be gratefully appreciated. Thanks in advance

    Hi Barry,
the view scale bug was on the list for an early fix
Fixed in the latest update (Numbers 3.0.1)
Numbers > Preferences > General > Default Zoom:
And it sticks with a document after Save . Reopen shows the Saved view.
    Regards,
    Ian.

  • When I attempted to open a Numbers Spreadsheet on iPad it deleted

I was using Numbers on my iPad, loading a file from iCloud when it suddenly deleted. Any way to recover this, and why is this happening? (This is the 2nd time with the "same" --recreated--file.)

Is your back up on iTunes or iCloud.
    To copy to iTunes..
When the document is open tap the spanner and choose 'Share and Print, then choose Send a copy, then choose iTunes.

  • How do I import excel spreadsheet to Ipad 2 [numbers] from my PC? can i use itunes?

Hi I'm a recent convert. I have a spreadsheet that I made in excel and want to use it on my new Ipad 2. I think I could email it to myself and open it as an attachment but I'm hoping that maybe I could import it through the Itunes that is on my PC.
    Thank you in advance
    RWR

You also need an app to edit it on the iPad ... many of these apps (Documents2Go, etc) have their own tools to allow you to transfter a document from PC to iPad. Other possibilities to look at are Goodreader (a PDF reader that is also a file management app) and cloud storage (Dropbox, Sugarsync).

  • Syncing Numbers Spreadsheet on iPad and Mac

    Hi There,
I have created spreadsheet in Numbers on my laptop that I would like to have on my iPad as well. My hope is that I can use iCloud to keep the same files and same information on both machines. Thus, when I make a change to the iPad spreadsheet, that is automatically reflected in the version on my laptop. So, I uploaded the spreadsheet to iCloud, and when I tried to download it to my iPad, the file appeared in my Spreadsheet pane, but it never actually opened. The icon for the file in the Spreadsheet pane on my iPad has been grayed-out for more than a day.
I also tried going the other way; I created a similar spreadsheet on my iPad, uploaded it to iCloud, and then tried to open it on my laptop. When I login to iCloud on my Mac and try to open the file, I get a little message that tells me that the file is "Updating", and nothing happens. Here is what it looks like on my laptop:
    Does anyone have any ideas?

Go to system preferences > iCloud > manage and delete the numbers files from iCloud. Check that documents is now empty both on the iPad and in iCloud.com and try again.
