How to color correct a portion of a photo?

I am new to photoshop. I have version cs5. I have several photos that were taken through a Blue tinted plexiglass window.
Some or all of the photo has acquired the tint. Also parts may have a reflection minor of people standing around.
How do I remove the tint?
Please be as specific as possible.
Thanks for the help.

One comment, when shooting through any window/transparent object is to shield the area, that you are shooting through, so that there are no reflections. This technique is used, when shooting through "the glass" in a hockey arena. There are even special lens shades, that look sort of like a small lightbox, that fit up to the plex, but still allows one to alter the angle (a very flexible connection near the lens' outside mount). Now, that will not affect the "tine," unless that is coming from behind the plex, like a reflection of the sky.
Good luck,
Hunt
I carry a rubber lens hood that fits up against the glass.  An almost essential accessorie when visiting places like zoos.  You can even get away with using flash!
ibuster, your image is not an easy fix being quite so blue as it is, and with it being local to only some of the image, you are going to need to understand Layer Masks.
A good first step is to go Image > Adjustments > Match color  and click on Neutralise.
It is probably going to be easier to use Levels adjustment layers rather Curves, so
Open a Levels adjustment layer
select the Lasso tool, and click on one of the corners of the blue tint.
Hold down the Alt/Opt key, and click on the next corner, and so on until your selection surrounds that segment of blue tint.
Now do the same for the next blue segment, but hold down the Shift key for the whole time you work round the segment.  This will add this segment to your previous selection
Repeat for the other blue segments.
Now click on 'd' to make Black your forground colour, make sure the Levels adjustment layer is selected, and go Alt backspace (Opt backspace if using a Mac)
This is actually the opposite of what you need to so go Ctrl/Cmd d to turn off the selection, and Ctrl/Cmd i to invert the selection.  Your adjustments will only affect the blue segments now.
Right.  It is not easy to give you a step by step here, but a good first step would be to drag the end points of the Levels adjustment layer in a wee bit from both ends to restore the contrast to the blue segments.
Now make a decision on which of the Red, Green, Blue channels is out of sync, and use the drop down to select that channel.  Place your cursor over the 1.0 in the center of the Levels, and using the cursor keys, nudge its value up or down.
I am afraid it is not an easy fix, and you will be messing around for a while, and probably never get a perfect result, so good luck to you.  As you can see from my quick fix, the problem is not uniform across the segments, and would take multiple adjustment layers and careful masking to get a really good result.   I am not a Retouch expert either, so there may be easier ways to fix it - www.retouchpro.com would be a good place to ask for specialist expertise.

  • Using Color From One portion of a Photo to Correct Color in a Faded Area

I'm a complete noob with photoshop elements 10. The more I look on this forum and in help the more confuesd I get. Here's my problem.
I have an old photograph that has faded from expoesure to sunlight. After removing the photo from the frame there is about a 1/2" portion around the entire picture that isn't faded and has correct color. How do I tell Elements to use that area with the correct color as the basis for fixing the faded portion of the photo?

There's one trick you can try to automate the process somewhat:
Make a duplicate of your original photo, and do all the remaining stuff on that duplicate photo so your original photo is safe.
Open the duplicate photo in PSE.
Use the Rectangular Marquee tool to select the faded area.
Use Edit...Cut to place the faded area on the Clipboard.
Save the image with the remaining "frame" area.
Use File...New...Image from Clipboard to create a new image with only the faded portion, and save it.
    Use File...New...PhotoMerge Style Match.
At the bottom of the StyleMatch editing screen, click on the "Project Bin" tab so you can select your opened file to use.
    Adjust the settings to suit.
The Help has more info about Style Merge:
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/photoshopelements/using/WS287f927bd30d4b1f-1a883eeb12e2803aa4d -7fce.html
You'll probably still need to do quite a bit of hand work, but that might give you a good starting point.

  • How to color-correct / color-match a lot of photos to a certain target.

    Hi there,
I have something like 1,850 photos, taken in RAW and later converted to DNG, to create a stop motion. All the photos were taken with the same camera (Canon 5D Mk II) and most of them with a 24-70L. All were taken in the same lighting conditions (in an interior, with the house lighting from flourescent lights) and the same day, in a period of maybe 2 or 3 hours. Each "take" was with the exact same camera and exposure parameters.
When processing the photos in Lightroom (using the LR4 beta) I can see some minor but very noticeable differences between color an exposure in the photos of the same "take". The exposure can be more or less automatically corrected by the Matching total exposures (although I think this doesn't work when the exposures are really similar, but there are some subtle differences like in this case, say, something along ~1/5 stop or so), but I haven't found how to try to match the white balance. All of the photos have already been set to a specific WB (I took a ColorChecker Passport at the beginning of the session), but there are still some differences between some of the shots. Some of them look a tad more greener. I blame the flourescent bulbs, but I'm not sure of the real cause.
So, the question is: is there a way to match the color balance of a series of photos to a target one? I really don't want to go photo by photo setting the white balance manually. Is there a tool like the Match total exposures, but for color balance? I have already tried with the automatic white balance and it helps somewhat, but the problem is that the decided WB for the photos is not the one I need, and I need to have the same WB for all the session, and this could change from different takes. The difference between shots is usually around 4 or 5 "points" in the Tint scale, some are with Tint +11, some with +15.
Any ideas? Or any other tool that could process this after? At the end I'll use JPGs to create the stop motion, so if there is a tool that could process the exported jpgs it could work too.
    Thanks in advance,
    Rodrigo Gómez

Thanks Lee. I thought that could be the cause too. It's strange that some photos taken, for instance, at 1/100 doesn't show that problem but others taken at 1/30 do show that issue... Uhm, now that I think about this, here in Europe the frequency is 50hz, so it would make sense with this numbers.
I was expecting a more optimistic answer! But I've searched everywhere I can think of and haven't found anything, so I guess I'll have to test how much does it show in the stop motion and see if a correction it's really needed.
    Thanks!

  • How to color correct an entire nested sequence?

    Hi Everyone,
So I'm attempting to color correct a camera at a time (multiple clips from the same source clip) which in recent projects I did individually. Is there a way to select an entire string of clips and color correct them and apply all at once in a nested sequence or am I doomed to color each individual clip in the nested sequence with no selection and paste options? Thanks in advance guys.

in sony vegas it would be a matter of placing all the same angle shots on one video track, then using the track fx to have one effect be applied to all the clips on that track. similar to how its done with audio in a daw. premiere doesn't have that feature and tries to make up for it with adjustment layers and nesting but its not the same. adjustment layer is easy unless the footage is mixed on the timeline, then you would have to try nesting footage on a separate track. nesting makes it messy to go back and edit, unlike the track based fx in sony vegas, so might do this as one of the last steps of the project.

hey wasup guys just finished my 1st music video now i need 2 color correct & color grade. i willl be making the video black & white so i was told i need 2 get rid of any color cast in my footage. i 4got 2 set the white balance on my 7d when i was shooting sum sceens so i could use any help possible like what is the best color corrector to use or how to white balance my footage any help is greatly appreciated thanks.

Check the basics and do a Google search. The first three listed will be videos, the next link points to the Adobe Help files.
The basic tools are the same as in Photoshop but there are a bunch of 3rd party plug-ins out there that make the job easier. If you run one of the tutorials found in your Google Search and are stuck get back to us.

  • Need help: How to color correct professionally (with examples)

Post to video forum (before and after): Hi, I really need some help  I want to color correct this video. I would love if someone had tips, either on:
-How you would correct the original
-What it looks like I'm doing wrong in my attempts (last 2 pictures)
    Thanks!

I'd crunch it up a little more with a curves adjustment. These children don't look healthy and stronger contrast will help. Also push the reds toward a slightly more orange tone. They look too purple. There's also still an overall purple tinge which needs to be eliminated. See the included 3 minute quick shot of mine. Not perfect and requires more tweaking (too much yellow now, see the lips), but I think it better represents the feeling one would want to convey.

  • How to color correct a multiclip

    hi,
    i'm going to edit a multiclip ( 2 angles )
since one angle need a costant color correction and the other angle a different one, which is the best and fastest way to proceed?
    thanks

apply any constant grade to the 2 clips BEFORE you make them into a multiclp. you can either correct them by dragging the color corrector onto them whilst they are in the viewer and correcting there, or by editing them into a sequence first, applying the correction, and then dragging the corrected clip back from the sequence into the bin. create the multiclip form these already corrected clips ... only then will the applied grade be carried automatically through to each clip instance in the edit
if you have already edited and now want to apply global corrections after the fact, then you need to correct one representative clip from one of the angles, then use the Find command to find (and select) all other occurrences of that angle in your completed sequence, and then drag that same correction onto the selected clips ... repeat for each angle

  • Beginner question: retaining color on a portion of a photo

I know this is a reletively easy function in Photoshop, but I wondered if it is possible in Lightroom to reduce color saturation to zero in only selected portions of a photo.  For example, to have a black and white portrait with blue eyes.
Is this possible?  Thanks in advance for any assistance.

    Excellent tip ...

  • Color Correction Time, Process, Etc...

    Hi,
I know that my 1 hour documentary needs color correction but how long will it take for me (a newbie) to do it with Color? Can Color "analyze" and correct the film in some auto mode or must I go through each cut/clip?
Also, how is it that I can even think about doing correction with Color when there's that company with a million dollar Divinci to do it right?

+"I know that my 1 hour documentary needs color correction but how long will it take for me (a newbie) to do it with Color? Can Color "analyze" and correct the film in some auto mode or must I go through each cut/clip?"+
How long it will take depends on how much color correction is done to it, what codec you are rendering to, your machine specs, etc...Unfortunately, there is no "Make it look good" button (not to be confused with the Auto Balance button). That's the 'art' part of color correction. How well did you drive the first time you got behind the wheel? Took a little while to get the hang of it, right?
+"Also, how is it that I can even think about doing correction with Color when there's that company with a million dollar Divinci to do it right?"+
How good of an artist do you think Van Gogh would be if he used a 10 dollar paint brush instead of a 1,000 dollar paint brush? Cost of the tools is not directionally proportionate to the talent.
My suggestion, read the Color manual or you will end up spending more time trying to figure out why 'X' is happening, than actually working on your project.
    Good luck!

  • Color Correcting but advanced!

Hey guys, here I am with yet another question. I know how to color correct pretty well but not as well as I want to. I bought some apple books to teach me but I still can't figure it out. Here's my problem, just say it's two people and any background that has many different colors, how do I leave the 2 people in full color but everything else in black and white? Sorry if this is a dumb question but I was taught that any question is not dumb, whats dumb is not to ask any questions at all.
    Thanks.

In FCP, put your shot on V1 and a copy of it on V2. Select both and ctrl/right click on them and choose Send To Motion.
In Motion put a desaturate filter on the lower layer. Motion has a freehand mask tool that makes a bezier shape. Select your upper layer and then select the the freehand mask tool and draw around the "color" area of your upper layer. Feather as needed. Turn on record (red button next to Play), step forward on your timeline and adjust the control points of your mask shape. When you're done, save it, quit. Fall back into FCP and render.
Couple of points: Motion loads everything into memory - no streaming from disk - so you're gonna want to limit your shots to a minute or so... And, this isn't for the faint of heart or the uninformed, you really should do your Motion tutorials and understand it before doing this.
    Good luck,
    Patrick

  • Color correction followed by Film effects = bad vid?

I have some shots at the beach, and the shots look pretty good after I do the color correction. I want to add the film effect, so composite clips using Screen & Soft light modes, and use the gaussian blur. It results in something that I totally dont want, and it looks all washed out. Color correction and the film effects work pretty good individually, but together they are just not working for me. Can someone please tell me how can I preserve the color correction, and that filmic glow at the same time.
    Thanks a lot

You can move the filters around in a different order. Moving them in a particular order will change how the filters interacted with each other.
For example: You might want to do a lighting effect first followed by a blur. In this order you blurring the lighting effect. If you do the blur first and light effect next. You lighting the blur. (OR) You may want to do the color correction last for an over all color effect on the video and how it looks. If you do a color correction first the filter to follow with change how the color correction looks.
Play around with the order and try to get the effect you want.

  • Color correct monitor

I am looking to buy a good color correct monitor for working with photos and eventually printing them in book. My tech friend recommended Eizo as the best and said that I may not have to get a top of the line one. Does anyone have an opinion about the Eizo ColorEdge CE210W, which is specifically for working with photographs, or the FlexScan S2100, which is a standard model? How about the LaCie 324? I will be printing in Asia and in Japan Standard profile and need a monitor I can trust for color quality, because I can't make proofs here (in Europe).
